"First Class Amon! First Class Mado!" he shouted to the two investigators, but received no response.

This scene made Huang Quan's heart sink.

There's no reason for Mado Kureo, this ghoul-hunting maniac, to want to harm her. If it were a test, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths. The only explanation is that the two who were supposed to be the ones to pounce on her must have encountered an accident.

After all, no one has said that...

There is only one roaming ghoul in this area. If three or four of them gather together, they might dare to attack a white pigeon that suddenly appears in Ward 20. For ghouls, if their hunting grounds are cleared out by the patrolling white pigeons, they will have to face the dilemma of finding new hunting areas.

The balance has been broken!

If you don't want to starve to death, attack the white doves!

'I shouldn't have believed that this damn system would give me an easy task!' After realizing this while on the run, Huang Quan was filled with rage at the system.

What appears to be a coincidence actually has an element of inevitability upon closer examination. It's a matter of probability, but with the system in place, the probability is likely to always tilt in a direction unfavorable to the host's fate in the afterlife.

As Huang Quan ran, she had to constantly watch out for debris that might fall from above, which slowed her down considerably. Her stamina had dropped to a dangerous level; her whole body ached, and if she continued running, she wouldn't even have the strength to pick up her sword soon.

"Whoosh!...Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Gasping for breath, Huang Quan had barely stopped breathing and hadn't even had a chance to relax when he looked down and saw his shadow being enveloped by another dark shape, which was rapidly growing larger. At the same time, he heard a whooshing sound from above.

With great effort, he leaped to the side, and immediately a loud bang came from where he had been standing!

The steel frame, which had been removed from somewhere, was deeply embedded in the ground.

The ghoul, coiled around a steel frame, looked down at Yomi with his chilling ghoul eyes, as if sizing up a lamb to the slaughter. Yomi, however, once again held her single-edged sword steadily to her shoulders. She could still fight! As long as she could fight, she could live!

Chapter Six: The Deadly Strike

Upon seeing Huang Quan's standard offensive stance, the ghoul standing on the steel frame twitched violently. This woman was excessively tenacious, almost like a hedgehog constantly raising its quills to protect itself.

If you want to bite her, be prepared to have your mouth full of blood.

Huang Quan stared intently at the ghoul standing on the high place. The deathly silence before the deadly battle was eerily quiet in the alley. He might only have one chance to strike, so he had to find one of his opponent's few fatal weaknesses. If he couldn't kill the ghoul with a single blow, he would be the one to die!

The stalemate lasted for a while.

A resolute glint flashed in their crimson eyes at the same time, and they charged forward simultaneously!

What was originally a distance of only a few dozen meters was rapidly closed in almost two breaths! Taking the initiative to meet the ghoul head-on, Huang Quan thrust his sword straight at the ghoul's eyes!

A crisp clinking sound rang out.

"Ah!!!" The girl's voice burst forth with all her might!

Yomi's sword pierced directly through the ghoul's hand that was used to block, and then deeply embedded itself in the ghoul's kagune, violently pushing the ghoul backward with undiminished force. The aura that had been swirling around the tip of the sword was now clearly revealed along with Yomi's resolute will to die.

This sharp sword energy surge was even able to cleave through the kagune's defenses, successfully allowing the blade to penetrate even deeper into the flesh. The single-edged sword was deeply embedded in the tail kagune, and the ghoul was pinned firmly against the steel frame.

[Wave Slash] LV1

It can unleash a certain number of sword energies at the enemy.

"Keep going! Keep stabbing!" The sword energy that had been unleashed vanished, the single-edged sword stuck in the ghoul's tail. Yomi's face showed deep resentment. She gritted her teeth and used all her strength to push the sword further into the ghoul's head. However, the tail that was firmly stuck in front of her became an insurmountable chasm. In a daze, Yomi seemed to see the ghoul reveal a triumphant smile.

Suddenly, a small section of the protective tail cleaver split off and unleashed a fierce whip-like attack on the defenseless Yomi!

boom!

Before he could draw his sword to parry, Huang Quan was swept away, his body bent over. He crashed through the window and landed inside the room. The burning pain from his back made Huang Quan gasp for breath.

Empty-handed, she felt like a fish out of water, a wave of weakness washing over her as if all her strength had been drained away. For the first time, Huang Quan knew what it meant to have a mouthful of blood, the cruel, metallic taste filling her mouth and nose.

'It hurts so much, it's so cold...it's so far away.'

Her ears felt blocked; she couldn't hear anything clearly. Huang Quan's fingers trembled as she tried to grab something, but seeing the figure swinging its kagune through the breach, she looked dejected and helpless. Even the weapon she relied on was gone; it seemed she really couldn't go on.

'As expected, I'm not the main character. All my hard work only resulted in failure. I'm so jealous of those incredibly lucky transmigrators. This world is so unfair.'

The ghoul stood before him, seemingly saying something triumphantly, while Yomi's consciousness, only able to weakly open and close its mouth, gradually sank to the bottom of the water.

Surprisingly, before losing consciousness, she showed little fear or sadness; instead, she had a strange feeling of "Ah, so death isn't so terrible after all." Finally, as darkness completely enveloped her, Huang Quan only had time to let out a sigh before her struggling hand fell limply to the ground.

'Okay, black...'

It seems that before completely losing consciousness, Huang Quan heard the sound of a heavy object compressing the air.

task:

A bird startled by the mere twang of a bow.

Mission objective: Under the test of CCG Senior Investigator Kureo Mado, cause the death of a ghoul of rank C or higher in any manner.

Task progress: Completed!

Mission Evaluation: You were excellent as bait, but you are still unqualified as a swordsman.

Quest Reward: Transfer Power Bracelet.

………………

Cold, shivering!

"Ah!" Huang Quan screamed as she broke free from the thick darkness, her consciousness lingering on the moment she was on the verge of death. Soaked in cold sweat, she stared wide-eyed at the white ceiling, as if she hadn't yet recovered from that brutal battle.

Am I still alive?

I'm still alive!

Amidst her heavy breathing, there seemed to be some sound that Huang Quan was trying so hard to suppress, making it impossible to tell whether she was crying or laughing softly.

When Amon Kotaro arrived at the ward, he saw Yomi, who had regained her usual calm and tranquility. She was comfortably leaning against the headboard, her gaze almost greedily fixed on the green scenery bathed in sunlight outside the window. The aura she exuded was breathtakingly captivating.

Huang Quan's beautiful face seemed to be glowing, and her scarlet eyes were exceptionally clear and pure. The sound of Amon Kotaro unconsciously bumping into the door of the ward startled Huang Quan. She looked at Amon, who seemed lost in thought, and a half-smile curved her lips.

Good morning, Yamen-kun.

Amen felt his heart skip a beat; it was the first time he had ever seen a woman with such intense charm. She made it clear to everyone that she was trying very hard to live!

"Good morning, Miss Huang Quan." Amen looked away somewhat guiltily and sat down by Huang Quan's bedside.

A long and awkward silence followed. Huang Quan's gaze remained fixed on the vibrant green scenery outside the window, her right hand unconsciously touching her left. On her left wrist, as if it were naturally there, a delicate bracelet clung tightly to her fair wrist. The bracelet was made entirely of silver-white metal, with a clear blue gemstone set in its center.

The surging, violent transfer power hidden in her left hand was tightly bound by the bracelet, tamed, and became the source of the female swordsman's power.

Yamen seemed very conflicted, looking at Huang Quan several times, trying to speak but failing.

"Amon-kun, do you know where my sword is?" Yomi suddenly asked, inquiring about her sword's whereabouts. She remembered that during the previous battle, her sword should have been left on the ghoul's tail. After all, it had been with her for a while and was a handy weapon; Yomi felt it would be a real shame to lose it.

"That sword has already been destroyed by the ghoul's kagune."

"..."

"Please don't worry about that. Mr. Mado is repairing your sword... We feel very guilty about what happened to Ms. Yomi during the mission. Please forgive us!" Amon clearly noticed a hint of gloom on Yomi's face. She had used a civilian as bait and almost died at the hands of a ghoul.

If Huang Quan were to expose this matter to the media, Amon Kotaro and Mado Kureo might have to resign.

Chapter Seven: Those Who Stain Steel with Blood

Through Amon Kotaro, Huang Quan learned some things that she didn't know before.

She acted as bait, engaging the ghoul in a fierce battle. Her tenacity exceeded the expectations of the two doves, who had both thought that Huang Quan would be lucky to last more than ten minutes against a B-rank ghoul. Unexpectedly, Huang Quan not only fought the ghoul for over ten minutes but also managed to injure it.

It pierced one hand and nearly pierced the entire tail.

After rescuing Yomi, Amon was deeply surprised by the numerous wounds left by her sword when examining the ghoul's body.

Keep in mind that this was achieved using ordinary weapons against ghouls.

If Huang Quan's single-edged sword were made of Kunkel steel, combined with her fierce swordsmanship, that B-rank ghoul would definitely be cut into several pieces by her! Being able to face a B-rank ghoul alone, let alone ordinary people, even some trainee investigators who have just graduated from the Ghoul Countermeasures Bureau couldn't do it...

So, she was saved by Amen.

The two white doves arrived late because they had been attacked by other ghouls in the abandoned area.

Huang Quan was relatively lucky; the blow from the tail serpent struck her side, and her injury wasn't too serious—just some minor abrasions from the impact. Furthermore, Huang Quan's physical condition was quite good, and she was aware of her surroundings when attacked. She'll be able to be discharged from the hospital after a few days of rest.

After exchanging a few words with Yamen while Huang Quan was distracted, he excused himself and sent him away, saying he needed to rest.

Lying on the hospital bed, Huang Quan slowly closed his eyes.

Are you angry?

Rationally speaking, Huang Quan wasn't angry. She understood that anger would be pointless, and causing trouble would only offend the CCG. Emotionally, however, Huang Quan had an overwhelming urge to smash her scabbard onto Mado Kureo's head. If it weren't for her good luck, she would have been completely wiped out on her first mission.

Regardless of the circumstances, I've already sided with the CCG.

There's no need to worry about the Gourmet or other ghouls targeting her for now, and besides, she can always use her trump card when necessary.

With Rize Kamishiro's wanderings into the 20th ward triggering the main storyline, Yomi has at least three or four months to plan her future. Having connected with Kureo Mado, her battles against ghouls will only be more frequent, not fewer, than anticipated.

After all, Mado Kureo, in the original storyline, is an out-and-out ghoul hunter.

After seeing Amon off, Huang Quan finally had time to bring up his attribute panel.

Name: Huang Quan

Gender: Female

Age: 17 years old

Race: human

Class: Female Ghost Swordsman

Title: None

Skills: [Basic Swordsmanship] LV5, [Meditation] LVMAX, [Parry] LVMAX, [Wave Slash] LV1

Overall assessment: You are now a planktonic creature at the bottom of the food chain, a planktonic creature that has obtained the key to evolution.

……

Ignoring the malicious overall evaluation, the changes in each section are not significant. In the skills section, apart from the addition of [Wave Slash], only the skill level has increased noticeably.

However, in terms of strength, Huang Quan, who has begun to control and utilize the transfer power within her body, could easily deal with C-rank ghouls even without weapons forged from Kunkel steel, provided she had a decent sword. As for the B-rank kagune ghoul she encountered before, she could roughly fight it to a draw in open terrain.
