Settsetse! The Pirate Nemesis
Page 48
Vice Admiral Tsuru, standing nearby, shook his head and sighed, "The negative impact this has on the new naval recruits... is immeasurable."
Given that Kizaru was his student, Zephyr couldn't comment. But even so, his eyes remained fixed on Kizaru with a questioning look.
After a moment of silence, Garp, whose mind was always wandering, asked, "Um... Kizaru, how did you manage to do that? Can you demonstrate?"
"I didn't expect you to also be dissatisfied with the Celestial Dragons?" Noticing the last sentence, Sakazuki looked at Kizaru with some surprise; "I didn't expect that someone as lazy as you would actually be thinking about doing something for the Navy! It seems I misjudged you!!"
"..." He remained silent, raising his head to look at the various gazes around him. Sitting on the soft chair, Kizaru felt as if he were sitting on pins and needles.
"Oh, right." Sengoku suddenly remembered something and slapped his forehead, then took out a transfer order; "Because of some comments... the Five Elders have decided to send you to assist the G5 branch. We hope you can continue to work hard."
As he spoke, Sengoku added, "It was a direct order from the Five Elders, and I couldn't change it."
As the only naval branch in the New World, the G5 branch is arguably the most chaotic and busiest branch in the navy...
With a blank expression, Kizaru said, "I am irreconcilably opposed to Sett."
129. Task Rewards
While the Marines were still discussing, Sett and Hawkeye embarked on their journey once again.
"That jerk finally did something decent!"
Lying on the impact boat, Sett looked at the newspaper leisurely and said, "After the news about the Flevans incident was reported, a bunch of people rushed over to transport supplies, and scholars even volunteered to help. Although they were all driven by self-interest, it doesn't really matter. I reckon it won't be long before Vincent can develop a drug to treat lead poisoning."
“Yes,” Hawkeye said casually; “It’s truly beyond my expectations that you can do some good things…”
"You're making me sound like a villain, you know that?"
"Is not it?"
"Watch out, or I'll sue you for defamation! Don't forget, I have connections with the Navy!"
"Then you really are no ordinary villain." Hawkeye's face showed a hint of emotion upon hearing Sett's words. In a sense, Sett was indeed very powerful, especially in a small place like the Four Seas, where he could live a life of luxury with the Navy's backing.
Especially considering his familiarity with both admirals and admiral candidates, Sett's influence would make imprisoning one or two people a simple matter of a word... However, Sett probably wouldn't bother doing that. Rather than using his power to put someone in solitary confinement, Sett prefers to use his fists to send them to the ICU.
Just as Hawkeye was about to say something, Sett suddenly fell silent. Seeing this, Hawkeye knew that Sett had entered a trance-like state again, so he ignored him and continued to steer the ship forward—as the only one of the two who could read nautical charts, Hawkeye had always been the one who acted as both navigator and helmsman.
In reality, Sett didn't actually have a mental wandering; it was just the system's reward settlement.
Side Quest: "Beat Up the Seven Warlords of the Sea"
Task progress: 3/7
"?"
Upon seeing this, Sett was completely bewildered. Of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Sett knew of two: Moria and Doflamingo. He knew about Moria because he received a mission from the system after beating him up. He knew about Doflamingo indirectly through Kizaru's words…
But where did the third one come from? Could it be Dr. Vincent?
Wait a minute, if he hadn't almost died from Amber Lead Disease, how could he have become a Shichibukai? Or that guy named Law? That's not right either; he also has Amber Lead Disease, and Dr. Vincent said that without treatment, he wouldn't live past twenty…
"Could it be some random passerby who got caught in the crossfire?"
Sett didn't know, and wasn't sure. It was probably because they weren't from the same world, so there was a delay in the system's information transmission. Except for the time they fought Moria when the network was relatively good, there was always a period of time after completing any mission before the verification and reward distribution were completed.
After thinking for a long time, Sett couldn't come up with a better idea of who would be a Shichibukai, so he simply gave up on thinking about it.
Because in addition to this task, there is a new side achievement.
"Beat up the Celestial Dragons!"
Task progress: 1/1 (Completed)
Quest Rewards: 1 random skill point, 1 random talent point, 1 skill fusion point
The mission's name is straightforward: find a Celestial Dragon and beat him up... It seems simple, but Sett isn't stupid.
Based on Sett's estimation, this should be considered a late-game quest. Otherwise, the "skill fusion points" wouldn't have appeared.
Skill fusion points, a new system added in the last update, allow you to fuse skills with similar attributes. According to the system explanation, it's a crucial core skill for the later stages of the game. However, we're clearly still in the early game, which only means Sett has completed a late-game quest ahead of schedule.
Although Sett is usually too lazy to think, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a brain—he's just too lazy to use it until it's covered in dust.
According to Sett's conjecture, if he hadn't happened to encounter Doflamingo, a Celestial Dragon who had been living in exile, it would have been impossible for Sett to complete this mission without several years of time and sufficient strength.
The reason is simple: according to Zephyr, any Celestial Dragon harmed will be supported by a Marine Admiral. Furthermore, the Celestial Dragons spend the vast majority of their time in Mary Geoise. In other words, if Sett wants to complete this mission, at the very least, he'll face pursuit by a Marine Admiral, and because it involves Celestial Dragons, even Zephyr's connections won't help. And if the bigger problem is that he can't find any Celestial Dragons outside, then he'll inevitably have to cause chaos in Mary Geoise…
Sett didn't believe that the Celestial Dragons were all useless... Even if they were mostly useless, there were definitely experts among them! Putting aside everything else, just by using resources, they could create a group of powerful experts!
...Thinking about it this way, Sett inexplicably felt a little itchy... He really wanted to give it a try.
But regardless, the mission was completed thanks to Xiaoming, the Celestial Dragon who had been expelled from the Holy Land of Mary Geoise...
Random talent point draw: "Fleet Step, Lethal Tempo, Glacial Augment!"
This time I was very lucky; all three talents were keystone runes in the rune tree, and there were no branch rune options like Scorch that were better than nothing.
Without a second thought, Sett chose Lethal Tempo.
Fleet Footwork grants a speed boost and health regeneration on the next attack at regular intervals. In the game, this is more suited for lane sustain, useful for harassing and healing. Glacial Augment, on the other hand, slows enemies on the next attack and with active item abilities. To be honest, it's pretty good, as it allows Sett's attacks to hit opponents more accurately.
The reduced speed, according to the explanation, will manifest as limb stiffness. In other words, when attacked by Sett, the enemy will find it difficult to even use Shave for a short period. However, upon closer inspection, Sett doesn't really need it. Because Shave already compensates for a large part of Sett's short reach problem.
Especially since this world has martial arts techniques like Tempest Kick for ranged attacks... Although it doesn't feel as natural as using fists, Sett still picked it up... It's never a loss to learn more.
Lethal Tempo grants a massive attack speed boost 1.5 seconds after the first attack. Sett glanced at this massive attack speed boost, which reached 90%, slightly less than Hail of Blades. However, unlike Hail of Blades' three-hit duration, this boost lasted an astonishing three seconds, and could extend to six seconds with consecutive attacks.
For six seconds, his attack speed increases by 90%... Even without using any skills or techniques, with this berserk speed boost alone, Sett could easily overpower an experienced player!
130 Impact damage
The random talent draw was complete, and Lethal Tempo was his. Sett immediately clicked on the random skill draw.
"Congratulations, player, you have acquired the skill: Mystic Art: Compassionate Salvation of Souls."
Sett raised an eyebrow, his expression becoming somewhat peculiar.
Mystic Art: Compassionate Soul Transference is Shen's ultimate ability (R) in League of Legends. In the game, it grants a shield that makes the enemy champion to the right incredibly durable, regardless of distance, and then teleports Shen to the champion's side.
This is arguably a skill with strategic value in the game. It means Shen can appear beside his teammates regardless of distance, quickly creating a numerical advantage. Whether used or not, as long as the opponent is unaware of its cooldown, it constantly generates value, forcing them to consider more complex situations.
However, in reality...
e...
Alright, at least I can get there in time if Robin and the others are in danger.
Random skill draws are different from random talent draws. Talent draws give you three talents at a time, which you can choose according to what Sett needs. However, skill draws only give you one talent, with no choice... Anyway, there's not much difference, so I might as well keep them as a backup plan; who knows when they might come in handy.
Another point is Fusion Points. Sett isn't very familiar with Fusion Points yet, and as mentioned above, there are many ways to fuse. Sett plans to put it aside for now and consider how to use it when he has more skills and more possible combinations.
The gains weren't huge, but a Lethal Tempo was already a pleasant surprise. In the game, an ADC triggering Lethal Tempo deals insane damage. And in reality, considering the conversion between speed and power, the effect would be even stronger than in the game.
As for the active skill... although the effect of Mercy of Souls isn't the kind of close-quarters melee combat or tank fight that Sett prefers, at least the name is cool.
To be precise, while the strength of the Ionian ninjas varies—some are consistently underwhelming in meta games and benched, while others are consistently dominant in lane and highly popular—their ultimate skill names are all incredibly powerful. Shen's Merciful Soulfall is a given, as is Kennen's ultimate, Mystic Art: Thunder Prison; Akali's ultimate, Mystic Art: Phantom Cherry Blossom; and Zed's ultimate, Forbidden Art: Shadow Assassination Array.
Whether these skills are powerful or not is another matter, but in terms of sheer coolness, they are far superior to Sett's brute force. They're both chuunibyou (a Japanese term for someone with delusions of grandeur) and cool, and when playing, you practically want to yell out every time you use them, as if you're afraid others won't know how awesome the skill names are.
In comparison, Sett's ultimate ability, while breathtaking, inexplicably feels incredibly weak...
Coming to his senses from the system, Sett immediately noticed that the impact boat's speed was abnormal. After a pause, Sett called out to Hawkeye, "What's going on? Why is it suddenly so slow?"
“Out of energy,” Hawkeye said casually; “Time for you to get to work, shipwright Sett.”
"The battery life of this thing is disgusting!"
Upon hearing Hawkeye's words, Sett curled his lip.
The impact dinghy is indeed fast, but its range is also worrying—the impact dinghy generates power by collecting and releasing impacts. It's like a car, except it doesn't burn fuel, but rather the pressure of the impact.
This kind of ethereal thing can only exist in this world. Even an air-powered car in my previous life sounded more reliable than this.
If Sett remembers correctly, someone made an air-powered car on CCTV-17's "I Love Invention" program, though I don't know if it's real or not.
It's also easy to charge the shock tank.
"Get out of the way, I'll do it!"
Sett strode over, his method for recharging Shock Shell simple: just like fixing an old-fashioned CRT TV, he raised his hand and slapped it hard.
With a series of loud banging sounds, the pressure gauge showed that the pressure inside the impact vessel had been fully replenished. Seeing this, Sett nodded in satisfaction, then called out to Hawkeye, and the impact vessel resumed its high-speed journey in the next moment.
But before he could even feel happy, the speed slowed down again. Seeing this, Sett frowned slightly; 'What's wrong? Losing momentum again?!'
After a moment of silence, Hawkeye bent down and rummaged around for a while, then sighed helplessly and looked up at the sky. He then lowered his head, picked up the Impact Shell, and pointed it at Sett, saying, "You broke it..."
"..."
The impact shell is a red conch shell, quite large, but not by much. A single impact boat is equipped with three, located on either side and at the bottom of the rudder in the center.
Now, a large, conspicuous crack has appeared on the shock shell that Hawkeye is holding.
"..."
Silence fell, then Sett said, somewhat bewildered, "Is this thing really that unreliable?!"
“If it were durable, the navy would probably have used it on warships already…” Hawkeye shook his head and said, “When I was learning to drive, I asked the shipwrights and sailors at the time. It can be repaired, but we don’t have the tools. The other one is still usable… let’s just consider it extra power.”
After a pause, Hawkeye continued, "Luckily, we made some modifications back then, so even without the impact shell, we could have turned it into a sailboat..."
When Sett first acquired the assault boat, he thought the paint job on Hawkeye was a bit ugly. So, while changing the paint job, Hawkeye also had a folding, wind-powered mast installed as a precaution. Although it was a bit slower, at least it wouldn't drift aimlessly on the sea like a stranded salted fish.
As they sailed, Hawkeye continued, "Our destination is the Germa Kingdom... I'm not entirely sure about their technological level, but it should be quite advanced. According to Borsalino, their king worked with Vegapunk, so they must possess a lot of advanced technology. We can take a break there."
Unbeknownst to Hawkeye and Sett, on another side of the voyage, atop a nation comprised of dozens of colossal warships, stood Vinsmoke Judge, a tall man with a metal helmet, flowing blond hair, and a menacing beard, who nodded menacingly.
"Very well... Sett, is that right? I can take care of it for you, but you must be paid what you deserve!"
As the leader of the Germa Kingdom, Vinsmoke Judge's relationship with the World Government is far more than that of a mere member state!
----------
That concludes today's 10,000-word update! Time to go have some fun!
131. Frequent Unexpected Events
Vinsmoke Judge is an extremely vain man who is obsessed with embellishing himself with power. He possesses the pride of royalty and is known as "Garuda the Strange Bird".
What people don't know is that Vincec Judge was also one of the most intelligent people in the world—and this intelligence wasn't just about interpersonal relationships, social skills, or anything else. It was about the wisdom in scientific research.
