Nobles at this level pose a certain threat to the royal family. Generally, they only remotely control their own fiefdoms, returning once or twice a year is sufficient.
Earl Charles's fiefdom was not large, and his family's influence was not great either. Whether he lived in the capital or in his fiefdom, it didn't really have much impact.
Actually, with demons at his disposal, Ciel poses less of a threat to the royal family if he lives within his fiefdom. Look at what's happened in the capital lately; those two demons (Arno and Seven Sins, who are just minor characters) have basically turned the world upside down. Add Ciel's demon knight order to the mix, and what will become of them?
Of course, a fiefdom cannot be as prosperous as the capital, but the advantages are obvious: the manor is particularly large, built like a castle—well, actually it is just a castle.
If it weren't for having such a large castle as his residence, it's estimated that Ciel wouldn't have been able to form any demon knight order.
With no guards outside the manor, Charles led Tranton and the others through the castle gates and walked straight in.
According to Ciel, she is the leader of the Demon Knights, and a group of demons live in her house. What petty thief would have the audacity to enter this place?
Tranton agreed with this point. Even in the perilous environment of the capital, he had no intention of recruiting guards, not because he had several demons by his side and didn't have to worry about safety.
“Let me meet your Demon Knights,” Transon said to Charles, getting straight to the point.
“I want to rest for a bit, Sebastian. I’ll leave this to you.” Ciel waved his hand and disappeared from Tranton’s sight.
Tranton showed no displeasure at being abandoned like this, and turned to look at Sebastian.
"plz follow me."
Sebastian led Su Mo and Tranton to a rather luxurious reception room, brewed tea, and asked them to wait a moment before leaving, presumably to summon the Knights of the Charles.
Compared to the non-chuunibyou loli Ciel, Sebastian was simply the perfect example. Transon didn't even drink a few sips of tea before leading a group of people in single file.
Setting down his teacup and standing up, Tranton looked at the group of people in front of him: "This..."
“Yes, Young Master Transon, what you see is the Demon Knights.” Sebastian nodded. “In fact, Young Master Transon may have misunderstood something. Not all demons, once summoned, automatically assume the role of butlers. They can be other roles too, can’t they?”
“Oh.” Tranton suppressed his doubts. “But they look… a little strange.”
It's not surprising that Tranton would have such thoughts. The ten demons before him, seven men and three women, were dressed in strange clothes of various colors. The styles differed considerably from the traditional clothing of different social classes in the British Empire.
Their all-black attire, reminiscent of Su Mo and Qi Zui, completely contradicted the standard demon series.
"What kind of demon could there be? Could it be a disguise?" Tranton thought to himself.
Of the four demons he had encountered, which one wasn't utterly ferocious? Even the Seven Deadly Sins, who had completely abandoned all morals, only obeyed the strong.
When the Seven Sins face Lady Liz and the others, they revert to their dangerous roles as demons. Arno and Sebastian are even more so; if these two are not considered demons, then there are no demons in the world.
Then, these demons in front of him looked only a few years older than Tranton. Although several of them had arrogant expressions on their faces, Tranton could tell at a glance that they were still young and inexperienced.
They are like unripe, green apples that haven't had time to mature.
To be honest, Tranton felt that even Benson and Martin, those two brats, would look more composed than this group of devils if they just stood there.
"Kid, do you look down on us?"
As Tranton frowned, one of the men stepped forward, raised his enormous nose, looked down at Tranton, and spoke.
Before Tranton could answer, a "female devil" next to him pulled him away and said with displeasure, "How can you talk to this little brother like that?"
After saying that, she turned to look at Tranton, her eyes sparkling: "Little brother, don't be afraid. Although I am a demon, I am a good person. You don't need to pay attention to that idiot."
While keeping his eyes fixed on Tranton, he also kept glancing at Su Mo's face behind him out of the corner of his eye.
"Tch, you flower-obsessed man." The man who had been pulled away sneered disdainfully, then turned to Sebastian beside him and said with a smile, "Sister Sebastian, what did you call us here for? Didn't you say we had gained a very powerful ally?"
Well, the infatuated expression on her face was even more exaggerated than the woman who had spoken to Tranton earlier.
Sebastian's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, then quickly relaxed: "You've already seen it."
"Them?" The blond-haired man with dyed blond hair showed a disdainful expression again.
Ignoring the man's disdainful expression, Su Mo, standing behind Tranton, maintained his composure, but inwardly he was seething with frustration.
Chapter 46 Fellow villagers meet?
After a thousand grass mud horses galloped through Su Mo's mind, two more dogs appeared and started doing some naughty things.
In short, it all boils down to, "Holy shit, that's just awful!"
The group of people in front of him were not unfamiliar to Su Mo; on the contrary, they were quite familiar—these guys were actually a group of Earthlings!
And it was just ten teenagers, at most sixteen or seventeen years old.
This is practically a meeting of fellow countrymen! Of course, Su Mo couldn't just burst into tears right away; he simply stood silently behind Tranton, observing the group with great interest.
Could these guys be demons?
If it were just that chuunibyou little girl, Ciel, mistaking these people for demons, Su Mo wouldn't find it strange. After all, these people, like demons, also came from another world; they were all intelligent beings from "another world."
But Ciel has the real heroine, Sebastian, a demon, by his side. Will she mistake these people for demons?
Su Mo felt that Sebastian's IQ couldn't possibly be that low.
This means that these people do indeed have some special characteristics.
Su Mo silently played the role of a background character, observing and thinking without saying a word.
Tranton, however, had to speak. Of course, he had no interest in ignoring the blond man's provocation, and simply looked at Sebastian and asked, "Where is their master?"
“They’re all here, but their situation is very similar to yours,” Sebastian said, looking at Su Mo.
"What do you mean?" Tranton was taken aback.
“That’s right, the master imposes very few restrictions on them. They can move freely, and you could even describe it as unrestrained,” Sebastian said.
"That's because we are high-ranking demons."
A bespectacled man adjusted his glasses; clearly, this guy played the role of the strategist in the group. He looked at Su Mo and asked, "Are you also a high-ranking demon?"
"Young people these days can lie without batting an eye. The world is going to the dogs!" Su Mo couldn't help but think back to those days... well, they weren't that much different back then.
Those who think that ancient people couldn't lie and were easily fooled due to their low intelligence are actually the ones who are easily fooled due to their low intelligence. As a man who has traveled a long distance along the timeline, Su Mo has the confidence to say such things.
Faced with the bespectacled man's question, Su Mo simply shook his head and didn't say anything more. He wasn't planning to reveal his identity right now.
"Hmm." The bespectacled man, having obtained the information he wanted, turned to Sebastian and said, "Butler, these two should be our allies. May I ask their identities?"
“Trandon Worbus, the Marquis, and his butler—” Sebastian’s introduction was concise, but he suddenly paused when he mentioned Su Mo.
She suddenly realized that, until now, she still didn't know what the demon's alias was in this world; these past few days, this guy seemed to have been avoiding the topic.
“Sebastian Gamoud,” Tranton interjected at the opportune moment, “is very much like you.”
"..." Sebastian gave Su Mo a strange look.
Su Mo nodded calmly. If you don't even have this much mental fortitude, what are you even pretending for?
"Is this the real Sebastian? But the color of his eyes and his appearance—" One of the "demons" on the other side muttered half a sentence in a very low voice before being stopped by the bespectacled man who suddenly turned his head and gave him a very stern look.
"Since you've already made such an obvious move, don't bother with your eyes, just speak directly," Tranton, Su Mo, and Sebastian thought to themselves at the same time.
The point of eye contact is to be subtle. This head-turning motion was so exaggerated; it would have been better to just speak up and stop him.
The man was glared at by the bespectacled guy, and he awkwardly shut his mouth, a hint of resentment on his face.
"So it's the Marquis." The bespectacled man gave Trandon an awkward bow, addressing him as "Sir" without any real respect in his tone.
Fortunately, with Su Mo's help (and guidance), Tranton has become a true strongman who doesn't care about such worldly formalities and doesn't take such a small matter to heart at all.
If this happened to other nobles in the capital, they might have pulled out white gloves, thrown them at the bespectacled man's face, and then ordered their guards to duel with him.
"All right."
Sebastian spoke up, drawing attention, "Young Master Tranton has brought us some very important information: the target we're looking for is very likely in the capital."
"Are we going to the capital?" the bespectacled man asked.
“Yes.” Sebastian nodded. “Get ready, we’ll set off tomorrow.”
No one refuted Sebastian's opinion. On one hand, the aura of this mature and powerful woman was more than enough to overwhelm these teenagers. On the other hand, judging from the excited expressions on their faces, they all longed to go to the capital.
After exchanging a few more casual words, these people left the meeting room.
Sebastian stayed behind, and after a short while, Ciel, who had rested for a while, also came in and said to Transon with a somewhat arrogant tone, "How about it? My Demon Knights are pretty good, aren't they?"
Trent opened his mouth, unsure how to answer.
These people didn't seem like demons at all, but if they really were demons, no matter how terrible they looked, they would still be absolutely dangerous creatures. Not to mention there were ten of them. Judging from their combat strength alone, the Demon Knights of Sharl were quite impressive.
Moreover, they're just a group of teenagers, so even if there's one bespectacled guy mixed in and playing the role of the wise one, they're quite easy to control.
In summary, Ciel's statement wasn't entirely boastful.
"They should be pretty good," Tranton nodded. He didn't think these demons were particularly strong in combat, but they could make up for it with sheer numbers. "Have these demons... been around for a long time?"
“I found it a month ago.” Charles said casually, as if he had just picked up a kitten or puppy on the street.
"Found it, that was easy." Tranton's lips twitched.
He went to great lengths to create the Seven Deadly Sins in order to gain more allies—and their combat strength wasn't even that great. All seven of them combined weren't enough to defeat Su Mo and Arno. Meanwhile, Charles casually picked up a full ten demons; his luck was truly incredible.
While Tranton thought this way, Su Mo didn't think Charles was particularly lucky.
These are just children. Even if they possess demonic powers, they are still just children with demonic powers. Even if children pick up a sledgehammer, they don't have the perfect power and skill to use it; they need to train gradually.
The only ones who are born strong are the Calabash Brothers.
“They need some training.” Su Mo narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing within them.
"Huh?" Sebastian suddenly turned his head and looked at Su Mo.
Charles and Tranton shuddered; for a brief moment, they felt a strange chill creeping into their hearts.
"What do you want to do?" Sebastian asked directly.
“I think we can postpone our return to the capital,” Su Mo said, turning to Sebastian.
"Why?" Sebastian asked, puzzled as to why this guy would say such a thing.
“Those demons are too weak, they’re practically like flowers in a greenhouse,” Su Mo said. “Even if these guys return to the capital, they won’t be able to help us at all.”
“Even if they are weak, they are still demons, aren’t they?” Sebastian retorted.
“Not every demon is worthy of being feared,” Su Mo said.
"So what are your plans?" Sebastian asked.
"Postpone your return to the capital. Give me some time to train them a bit, at least enough to let them demonstrate some of their abilities and not hold us back. By the way, it's been a month already, haven't you made any such plans?" Su Mo asked Sebastian.
Sebastian shook her head. To be honest, as a butler, she was actually quite busy. Besides, she was just a demon, not a transmigrator, and had never considered that these seemingly naive "little demons" might have another identity.
