Archduke Lyle laughed and shoved Henry XI to the ground. With his other hand, he pulled out the dagger that had pierced Henry XI's heart and threw it at a nearby servant.
Before the waiter could recover from the shock of the Grand Duke of the Empire stabbing the kingdom to death, a sharp dagger slashed a huge gash across his neck.
Blood gushed from the wound, and the waiter tried in vain to stop it with his hands, but he could not escape his fate of death. Moments later, he lay motionless in a pool of blood.
Archduke Lyle expressionlessly pulled a white handkerchief from his pocket, wiped the bloodstains off his hands, and casually tossed it over Henry XI's unseeing face.
He probably died without understanding why this duke, who had been forgotten by almost everyone for so long, suddenly turned on him and killed him.
And it was done so quickly and decisively.
Shouldn't one usually say a few words before killing someone to make the other person understand, so they don't end up being a fool? But Grand Duke Lyle was so direct, without a single wasted word, and completely accomplished his purpose upon meeting them.
After Henry XI died, Archduke Lyell did not utter a single word. He wiped the blood from his hands and stood in the room waiting, without saying anything to the corpse.
After a while, a humanoid figure wrapped in bandages entered the room. Most of his body was covered in blood, and fresh blood continued to flow from his fingers and drip onto the ground.
"Let's make our move. Lead them to Worbus Manor. That brat dares to fight me just because he has a few demons. But I should thank him for sending the last of the demons; otherwise, we would have had to wait for several more years." Duke Lyle turned to the strange man whose body was wrapped in bandages and said, while taking out something that looked like a family crest and pinning it to the bandaged man.
Without uttering a word, the strange man walked directly in front of Grand Duke Lyle, raised one hand, his palm open and fingers together, and suddenly thrust it towards Grand Duke Lyle's arm.
Judging from the whooshing sound, this blow was enough to leave a deep wound on Grand Duke Lyle's arm.
Then, Grand Duke Lyle could openly transform from the murderer into an innocent bystander implicated in the affair, directly shifting the blame onto the Worbus family.
It was a very clumsy setup, but it was enough.
The capital city was already like a powder keg, with everyone on edge, ready to explode at the slightest spark.
Even if the Worbus family had more than a dozen demons by their side, they would still be wiped out in the vast ocean of the people.
Having dealt with demons for so many years alongside a strange angel, Grand Duke Lyle knew these creatures all too well, despite the persistent rumor that human weapons were ineffective against them. Grand Duke Lyle knew, however, that this was truly a myth.
It's just that demons have an exaggerated regenerative ability; they can almost instantly recover from injuries not caused by some special force.
Although it may seem similar to an attack being nullified, there is actually a significant difference. Nullification is not the same as rapid recovery from injury. The latter implies attrition, and even small attrition, when accumulated to a certain extent, is enough to bring down a demon.
Not to mention, Grand Duke Lyle has plenty of "backup plans," even if the Worbus family can break free from the sea of angry troops and frenzied civilians in the capital.
They will also find themselves facing another, larger, more terrifying vortex, one that could completely engulf them.
"Perfect!"
Grand Duke Lyle thought to himself.
Immediately afterwards, he saw the bandaged man in front of him sway, and half of his body suddenly exploded, just like fireworks.
The hand that was originally aimed at Grand Duke Lyle's arm changed direction slightly due to the swaying of his body; it transformed into a sharp blade. It wasn't a significant change, just a small distance.
But even such a short distance can be fatal.
Although half of his body was almost blown apart, his arm and shoulder were still connected. In addition, the bandaged monster's incredibly vigorous vitality meant that the speed and power of his hand chop were not affected.
As the direction shifted, Grand Duke Lyle, still wearing a "perfect" smile, suddenly felt a blood-red aura before his eyes, as if his face was splattered with blood.
Of course, that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that the deflected hand slash pierced directly into Grand Duke Lyle's chest, piercing his beating heart.
"How sudden!"
This was Grand Duke Lyle's last thought. After this thought flashed through his mind, as the bandaged monster instinctively pulled his arm away, Grand Duke Lyle leaned forward and fell onto the bandaged monster.
His death was as sudden as that of Henry XI, leaving those involved with no time to react.
The bandaged monster stood there, somewhat dazed, as large amounts of granulation tissue spread from the wounds, beginning to repair its body.
Chapter 51 Three Shots to the Soul
Having quickly repaired his body, the bandaged man took a step back, looking at Grand Duke Lyle lying on the ground with a look of confusion in his eyes.
This guy's intelligence is insufficient to handle the current special situation.
Theoretically, he should have followed the man before him, protected his life, and obeyed his orders. But now, the man was dead, and he had died by his own hand.
The bandaged monster's brain, corrupted by external forces, was bewildered... The person he was supposed to protect had been killed by him? Should he kill himself then? But he was also under orders to shift the blame elsewhere.
Standing there, stunned for a full half minute, the bandaged man finally decided to complete the order to "shift the blame" first, and deal with the rest later.
The bandaged man turned around and walked directly to the open doorway of the room.
The royal palace is in a state of tight security on the outside but loose security on the inside. The outermost layer of defense is the most stringent, but once inside the palace, the number of guards and such is greatly reduced.
This is easy to understand; even Henry XI did not want to be followed by someone all the time.
Therefore, the few shadow guards outside this study were Henry XI's last line of defense. Once these men were eliminated, this area became a safe zone.
This explains why, despite so many deaths inside, there was no reaction outside. By bypassing the outermost and most secure defenses, the inside actually became safer.
The bandaged man stepped out of the room, turned his head as if judging where there were more people, so he could attract their attention and lead them to the Worbs Manor.
However, just as the bandaged monster shook its head, its right chest exploded again, leaving a huge hole.
There was still not much blood flowing out; instead, there were disgusting growths of flesh. In the center of the person's chest, there was something exactly like the embryo of an angel.
"As expected, it is a monster parasitized by the Angel Embryo."
Outside the palace, nearly a kilometer away, Su Mo thought to himself.
Back in the capital, Su Mo sent out those transmigrated demons to search for clues, but of course, they weren't just searching aimlessly.
Among them, the marquises, dukes, and royalty in the capital were all under close surveillance.
Outside the royal palace and the ducal mansion, day and night, Seven Sins hid, observing their movements. Once these people made any move, Tranton would know immediately.
Waiting for the mastermind behind the scenes to take action—of course, it's impossible to just sit at home like a fool and wait.
When Grand Duke Lyle, who had been enjoying his retirement for a long time, emerged from the ducal mansion, Seven Sins immediately informed Su Mo. Then, when Grand Duke Lyle arrived at the palace, Su Mo met up with Seven Sins, who was waiting outside.
The bandaged monster's chest suddenly exploded for no other reason than the damage caused by Su Mo's sniper rifle.
This doesn't mean that Su Mo brought a sniper rifle with him from the beginning.
Rather, the palace's location was rather unique, with few places to hide nearby. So, Su Mo had Seven Sins use the sniper rifle as a telescope.
After all, the magnification function of a sniper rifle scope is better than that of some binoculars.
As for the fatigue from surveillance—that's nothing to demons.
After Su Mo arrived, he took over the Seven Sins matter and saw the situation in the study with the door wide open, including the badge that Grand Duke Lyle had pinned to the bandaged monster.
The emblem, with crossed swords above and a potato below, was quite distinctive and familiar to Su Mo; it belonged to the Tranton family.
This is such an obvious attempt to shift the blame; anyone can see that.
Without hesitation, Su Mo fired a shot that deflected the bandaged man's chop, killing Grand Duke Lyle.
The second shot was aimed at the badge on the bandaged monster's body. The shot not only shattered most of the bandaged monster's chest, but also smashed the badge into pieces.
After the second shot, without pausing, Su Mo aimed at the exposed angelic fetus and pulled the trigger again.
The bullet struck the Angel Embryo, and the somewhat soft, strange thing immediately burst open, with a large amount of fleshy buds emerging from it, instantly enveloping the person into a disgusting sphere.
However, the sphere didn't last even half a second before it shattered, turning into grayish-white dust all over the ground.
A few minutes later, the patrolling guards saw the state of the study and their terrified screams instantly echoed throughout the entire palace.
The once peaceful palace was thrown into chaos.
"That's enough." Su Mo stood up from his prone position, casually disassembled the sniper rifle, and tossed it aside.
Sniper rifles don't have many bullets to begin with. Those were the last three shots and three bullets. Now this thing is just a fire poker. If it were to be used as a weapon, it wouldn't be as good as some of the time-tested swords and blades in this world.
"This thing is pretty fun."
Seven Sins looked at the parts that Su Mo had tossed aside and said.
"Take it if you want to play with it," Su Mo said.
Seven Sins grinned, picked up the parts, and stuffed them into his clothes.
Watching Su Mo disassemble it, Seven Sins felt he could restore it—but the little yellow thing inside was gone. He could use something else to replace it when he returned to Hell; it was very powerful.
"what happened?"
When Su Mo returned to the Worbus Manor, Tranton immediately asked.
Unlike the bustling scene a few days ago, the area near the iron gate outside the manor is now deserted and completely empty.
Not long ago, a group of people arrived and called away all the idle young masters. Only a few children of viscounts and barons remained. However, the hurried manner of those people seemed to have influenced these young men, and after hesitating for a moment, they left without lingering.
"We've found the person behind it all," Su Mo said.
"what?"
Charles yelled, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, Grand Duke Lyle, he's accompanied by a monster that's been parasitized by an angel's embryo..." Su Mo described what was happening in the palace in the most concise way possible.
After the incident at the palace, the surrounding area was immediately sealed off.
It took Su Mo and Qi Zui a while to evade the crazed guards and return to Worbus Manor.
It's broad daylight now, and there's no cover for the two of them in the darkness.
During this time, news of the major incident at the palace should have reached the ears of many nobles in the upper city. Naturally, these nobles would not allow their sons to remain outside the Loveworth Manor at this sensitive moment.
"That's him!" Little girl Xia Er jumped onto the stool and said excitedly.
"You'll die after the contract is completed, so why are you so agitated?" Su Mo looked at Xia Er with some confusion.
“You don’t understand.” Ciel tossed his head and looked at Sebastian beside him.
Sebastian smiled slightly and looked at Ciel with doting eyes.
The crowd's gaze swept back and forth between the two, and Tranton frowned, somewhat puzzled.
However, Tranton didn't understand how the other transmigrators, demons, and Su Mo, who had experienced the information explosion era, could not understand the extremely subtle communication between Sebastian and Ciel.
Of course, Su Mo was too lazy to say it aloud. The others... had become Predators, completely losing their former gossipy nature, their faces as cold as granite, devoid of any expression.
"Right, what do we do now?"
Ignoring Sebastian and Charles gazing at each other affectionately, Tranton turned to Su Mo and said.
"Let's get started," Su Mo said.
"Is the current situation appropriate?" Tranton asked with some concern.
