The other was a middle-aged white woman who looked quite capable; she was probably Officer Molly, the girl had mentioned.

The car was parked on the side of the road. As soon as Su Mo opened the car door, he heard the black police officer say, "What was that loud noise this morning?"

"Who knows? I heard there's some military base nearby researching terrifying things," Molly said with the gossip of a middle-aged woman. "Maybe it's them who came up with it."

"Do you think it could be an alien?"

“Ha, aliens aren’t from Area 51,” Molly said with a laugh.

"Area 51 isn't researching aliens," Su Mo thought to himself. He walked towards the two of them.

The two of them noticed Su Mo walking towards them and turned around to look at this completely unfamiliar face.

"Ok?"

However, before he could reach them, Su Mo suddenly stopped. His gaze went past the two people and looked at their backs.

At the same time, behind the two of them came exclamations such as "My God!" or "Oh my God!" or curses like "Fuck!" or "Shutter!"

"what happened?"

The two officers turned around with some confusion, then simultaneously opened their eyes and mouths wide, unable to utter a single word.

Before their eyes, a massive white mist surged in from the horizon like a tidal wave, engulfing most of the town at a frenzied pace visible to the naked eye. Just as the two police officers were in shock, the white mist did not stop at all, swallowing them both up at the same time.

"what happened?"

Officer Molly drew her sidearm from her waist. In the white fog, visibility was only a few meters. She could only see her partner and the Asian man who had just gotten out of the car.

The black police officer next to him then uttered a standard, profaned vulgar curse, clearly indicating that he was somewhat agitated.

In an instant, a strange, thick fog swallowed up the entire town and even more areas, making the surrounding environment almost pitch black. How could this not make people nervous and excited?

“Hey, relax!” Officer Molly said to her partner.

"I know, I just wanted to say a few words," the Black police officer said. Several beams of light appeared in the distance, indicating that someone had turned on their flashlights, but they couldn't break through the eerie fog and didn't serve much purpose, at most just letting others know that someone was there.

“Let’s go take a look over there,” Molly said, pointing in that direction. Then she turned to Su Mo, who was standing not far behind her, and said, “Young man, would you like to come with us? We’re officers here.”

"Okay." Su Mo took a few steps forward and stood beside the two of them.

Molly sized up Su Mo. He had a very young face and a calm and composed demeanor beyond his years. He didn't seem like a bad person; he was probably just a passerby here.

"Let's go, let's go," the Black police officer urged anxiously.

In such thick fog that one could hardly see their own hand in front of their face, the fact that there were only three of them standing by the roadside made him feel very unsafe. He wished he could rush over immediately to the place where the beams of light were swaying and voices were coming from, and meet up with the others.

“Let’s gather the others together. I feel something’s not right.” Officer Molly’s face was also grave as she led the way.

Under these circumstances, Su Mo couldn't very well take out his phone to ask Ailer for her location, even if he did, she might not answer.

In such thick fog, apart from Su Mo, probably no one else would feel safe. Going into a room would probably make things much better.

The three of them walked along the side of the street for a while. Several other people joined them.

“Let’s go to the pub,” Molly said. “Everyone should be there.”

The beams of light and the cacophony of voices from before had disappeared; they must have entered one of the taverns on this street. Entertainment options in the town weren't plentiful. In their leisure time, the townspeople would drink and chat in the only tavern.

As he approached the tavern, Su Mo sniffed the air and detected a faint smell of blood.

"Hi, I'm Molly. You guys..."

The tavern's glass door was reflective, so Molly couldn't see clearly what was inside. She said as she pushed the door open.

Her words were cut short as she pushed open the door, and a strong smell of blood hit her.

As the door was pushed open, thick fog rushed in, instantly thickening the thin mist inside the tavern and covering the piled-up corpses, a scene of utter devastation resembling a living hell.

But that fleeting glimpse of the tragic and dangerous scene was etched into the hearts of Molly and the others.

"What! What!" The Black police officer took two steps back, his face filled with terror. The others also gasped in surprise.

Molly took a step back, watching the blood slowly flow from her feet. Her face flushed and paled by turns. She was just a small-town policewoman; she had never seen anything like this before. The fact that she didn't scream was a testament to her composure.

"Hey! Watch out!" someone shouted at that moment.

Molly was startled and looked up abruptly. She saw a blurry black shadow appear in the tavern filled with thick fog and pounce directly towards her.

"who!"

Molly instinctively drew her gun. "Back off!"

However, this action did not slow down the shadowy figure; instead, it became even faster, appearing at the tavern's entrance in the blink of an eye.

Suppressed gasps of cold air escaped from the crowd.

The dark shape wasn't a person at all, but a gigantic, monstrous arthropod, almost as tall as an adult, or rather, a black monster.

This monster looks somewhat like a praying mantis, which is found everywhere on Earth, but it is entirely black, with a hard black shell and sharp, protruding spines, especially its serrated edges. Its huge forelimbs, resembling scythes, make it look even more ferocious than a praying mantis.

Even if this thing were the same size as a regular praying mantis, most people would still be startled if they saw it, let alone now that it's been magnified so much.

Molly stared wide-eyed at the monster before her, her finger on the trigger but unable to press it.

The giant mantis-like monster twisted its body slightly and made a sound similar to a cricket chirping, perhaps observing the strange creature in front of it.

This observation lasted only a few seconds before the sounds emanating from its body suddenly became louder, and at the same time, its scythe-like forelimbs rose up and slashed fiercely at Officer Molly.

"what!"

Officer Molly finally let out a terrified scream, closed her eyes, and fired her gun.

The bullet struck the black, hard shell of this mantis monster, leaving only a shallow white mark before slicing it open.

Molly was lucky, however, as one of the bullets passed through the gap between the two hard shells and hit her soft spot.

The mantis twitched its body, and the sound it made instantly became extremely piercing, clearly indicating that it was in pain.

But instead of lowering its raised forelimb, the pain caused it to swoop down at Molly at an even faster speed!

I need to go back to school soon to deal with graduation matters, including job hunting and thesis defense. Those who haven't passed the CET-4 also have to take an oral exam. There's a ton of stuff to do, so I'll stop the extra updates for this month here. Thank you all for your support!

Chapter 131 Insect Monster

You can see the bloodstains on the mantis monster's "scythe-like forelimbs," and the corpses scattered all over the tavern are undoubtedly the work of this mantis monster.

The scythe-like forelimb swung, bringing a gust of bloody wind. Molly, who had closed her eyes out of fear and was plunged into darkness, had all her other senses heightened, and she felt the scent of death descending upon her.

Just at this critical moment, Officer Molly's arm was grabbed, and a force came from her, causing her to sway and stagger a few steps to the side.

Molly opened her eyes and saw the Asian youth from before pull her away, saving her from death.

"Run! Get in my car."

Before Molly could react, the Asian youth shoved her hard, signaling everyone to run away.

With Su Mo's loud shout, everyone suddenly realized what was happening and turned to run away.

Su Mo twitched his finger slightly, and a nearly transparent thin thread appeared in the thick fog, wrapping around the mantis monster's hind leg, tightening and twisting, directly severing one of the monster's hind legs.

With a piercing insect chirp, the mantis monster crashed to the ground, its upright body gushing out thick, bluish blood that emitted a strange, pungent odor.

However, Officer Molly and the others were unaware that the mantis monster had its hind limbs crippled by the Asian youth, rendering it unable to chase them.

Hearing the sound from behind, these people burst into their fastest speed ever, running frantically towards the source. One of them even crashed into a lamppost, blood streaming down his forehead, and almost passed out.

Fortunately, Su Mo came over and helped him up, leading him to continue running forward and thus avoiding being abandoned.

After a brief but long escape, the group quickly arrived in front of Su Mo's black SUV.

"Get in the car!" Su Mo unlocked the car door, and several people rushed to get in.

Although there were houses on both sides of the street, and some of the windows were open so they could escape inside, there was no sound of human voices coming out of the houses. Who knows if they were occupied by giant insect monsters.

The best course of action is to get in the car and escape.

Six adults rushed into the vehicle, making it somewhat cramped even though Su Mo's car was a spacious SUV. However, no one cared about that at this point; escaping the monster was the top priority.

Su Mo started the car, which roared and quickly sped away from the neighborhood. Of course, it inevitably damaged some streetlights along the way, as visibility was terrifyingly low.

With a screech of brakes, the car came to a stop at a corner, and Su Mo turned off the engine.

Instantly, the car was filled with suppressed breathing and panting.

"Um... thank you for earlier." Officer Molly, who happened to be sitting in the passenger seat, said to Su Mo, still shaken.

“Yes, young man, if you hadn’t helped me, I might have been killed by that thing.” The man, whose forehead still had blood on it, said.

"Ah."

Su Mo nodded calmly, which calmed the atmosphere in the car a little.

"By the way, why is it parked here? Is the car broken?" the black police officer said, taking up a considerable amount of space in the car by himself.

"No, I was just wondering if those monsters could find us by their voices," Su Mo said.

Upon hearing this, everyone instinctively covered their mouths, not daring to even breathe.

I sat quietly in the car for five minutes. The fog outside seemed to have gotten even thicker, to the point where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Looking out the car window, I couldn't see anything except for a wall next to me. Everything was shrouded in fog, and the visibility had even dropped to two or three meters.

"What do we do now?" someone asked.

They desperately wanted to escape the thick fog, but they were also afraid, as the young man had said, that their voices would attract the mantis monster.

"I forgot to introduce myself."

Seeing that the crowd's emotions were no longer as hysterical as before, Su Mo said, "My name is Sephiroth, I'm from the CIA..." As he spoke, he reached into his pocket, but then a wry smile appeared on his face.

"Looks like it got lost during our escape." Su Mo shook his head helplessly.

"Are you a CIA?" Molly's eyes widened. She didn't doubt Su Mo's words; firstly, his composure was indeed extraordinary, and secondly, he had just saved her.

"Mm." Su Mo nodded.

How did this thick fog appear?

"What does that monster have to do with you?"

"Is it from the ancient times of that experimental base?!"

What were usually boring topics of conversation suddenly became real, and the townspeople instantly became excited again.
