The general's expression gradually became serious. "How many of these knives are there?"
"Not much, enough to arm a small squad, but we haven't figured out the manufacturing process yet. If we have enough funds and manpower, I believe we can do it..."
Dr. Li Qi immediately perked up. Of course, he knew that this thing was not so easy to replicate, but now was the time to ask for funding, and he couldn't be so honest.
"As soon as possible, the Empire needs such a weapon! And what about these things?" General Boris finally showed some interest in the remaining relics. "I think there should be something even more impressive, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't be so eager to show the results."
"Yes, yes..." The doctor sighed silently. The results he wanted to show were the supports in front of him. He had made many discoveries about their material composition, but Boris was the one who was only interested in things that could be directly converted into combat power and show off his political achievements.
The Ursus soldier, carrying a huge Originium backpack, struggled to lift the device in his hand, which was several times larger than when it was dug out. Then, a dazzling, sun-like fluid slammed into the metal target opposite him.
Although the flash was only momentary, it left a huge thermal crater in the battleship's armor.
“This is… unbelievable. You’re not telling me that the warrior was actually a powerful sorcerer, are you?” Boris exclaimed in surprise as he took off his sunglasses, looking at the armor plate that was almost melted through.
"Of course not, General. He was just a soldier who received some basic Originium Arts training. That relic weapon didn't need Originium Arts to operate; it was powered by the Originium inside the backpack. He only needed to use basic Originium Arts to control the backpack's energy and inject it into the device..."
"Are there any defects?"
"The Originium in the backpack can only support less than 10 shots, and it's too heavy, making it easy for casters or crossbowmen to focus fire and eliminate. However, these drawbacks can be overcome," the doctor added.
"For example, designing the backpacks to be modular and replaceable, using lighter materials, equipping them with a squad of heavily armored defenders for protection, or simplifying the design to increase the power and output of the energy backpacks. However, all of this requires money, General."
"If they can perform this well in front of the emperor, then this isn't a big problem. The real question is, Doctor, how many sets can you manufacture, or rather, can this kind of relic equipment be mass-produced..."
"Well, if we're in a rush, two sets a month shouldn't be a problem. There are quite a few of these devices in the ruins. If we want to mass-produce them, I'll need more time and more money, but I think it's worth it, right?"
“Yes, it’s worth it.” Boris had finally found what he was looking for, and just as he was about to speak, an explosion came from outside the research room, followed by a chaotic commotion.
"Damn it! The camp has been attacked!" Boris was immediately in a bind. No one wanted to see Ursus acquire the technology and equipment from the ruins.
So from the beginning, he mobilized his elite forces to deal with all of this, and also set up a large number of patrol teams on the perimeter.
Unexpectedly, someone still managed to sneak up around the camp. However, if these intruders thought they could easily destroy or seize the excavation site, they were seriously mistaken!

Actually, I don't have any thoughts to share.
The current storyline will likely be in the "land clearing" phase, followed by numerous flashbacks, such as how the wreckage was discovered after the crash, and the reactions of Ursus and other nations—basically all revolving around the Windrunner's wreckage. Of course, there will also be scenes of an old woman investigating the wasteland and the wreckage, and so on.
Then comes the "sowing" stage of continuing to cultivate the land, and then new kemonomimi girls will be added... hilarious.
Since the timeline is at the very beginning, the Reunion Movement is still nowhere to be seen, and Taman is still the little princess of the Duke's family.
As for the "emergence" stage of the Reunion Movement's formation and large-scale protests, that's still a long way off. As for the ending, I haven't decided which one to use yet—
Here's a preliminary spoiler: the difference is between "the one in the sky is the ark" and "the one on the ground is the ark."
Chapter Thirty-Four: Action Patriots (Part 2)
-------------Chapter Dividing Line---------------
The Shield Guards captured two industrial platforms with precision and speed, and used the ballistae on them to suppress the Ursus reinforcements. The guards seemed completely unprepared for the attack without warning, even though they were Ursus's elite troops, just as the attackers were.
Their familiarity with Ursus's military regulations and common tactics made the black-armored guards in charge of the excavation site feel as if they were fighting against an opponent who could read minds; shield against shield, spear against halberd, sparks flew.
Both sides were using standard Ursus Shield Guard tactics, and the invaders were even more skilled and proficient in this military combat technique than these First Legion veterans.
"Buzz!" Amidst the swarming buzz of venomous bees, a cluster of crossbow bolts struck the guard barracks of the concentration camp. The flimsy wooden houses were instantly pierced and shattered by the metal bolts, and the ordinary soldiers inside screamed in agony amidst the flying splinters.
Patriot's assault team didn't bother with the guys rolling around on the ground. After breaking the chains binding the concentration camp, the Shield Guards threw the weapons they picked up into the crowd and moved on to the next breach point.
Ruthless, cruel, and swift, just like the style of the most elite unit in Ursus, shackles shattered and towers collapsed before them. Soldiers hastily formed ranks could not withstand their onslaught and disappeared into the crowd.
"Get on the truck, hurry up, throw all this stuff on too!" The Shield Guards seized the truck used to transport personnel and fragments of relics, throwing the rescued infected onto the truck, and also putting some of the boxed supplies on it.
The Shield Guards aren't detached from worldly affairs. They can sell scrap metal to farms, and there might be items among the relics that can enhance their combat capabilities. In addition to these, they also consciously collect the weapons and equipment of the fallen guards.
"Boom!" A burst of flames exploded in the crowd, and a truck that had just been loaded and was about to leave flew into the air, followed by more explosions.
Explosions, or rather fire, are the most common Originium Arts used by warlocks. They don't require high talent; they just need to numbly extract energy from the Originium staff and throw it out to form a series of magical missiles. Therefore, warlock units are also known as "grenadier" units in Terra.
"Damn it, it's the elite sorcerers of the First Legion. Suppress them!" Ivan was not surprised at all by their appearance. It would be abnormal if such a large excavation site only had those obvious guards.
Besides warlocks, there are also throwers who belong to the grenadier unit. They throw bottles of incendiary bombs into the crowd. This is the most effective weapon against dense crowds. Ursus is good at using cannon fodder made up of population advantage, and is naturally familiar with and good at dealing with this kind of cannon fodder.
Following closely behind were heavily armored soldiers wielding battle axes, who seemed to emerge from some corner or hidden bunker, covering the sorcerers as they launched a counterattack against the industrial station, attempting to recapture those deadly ballistae.
Since both sides consisted of elite Ursus regular soldiers, the Shield Guards also began to suffer casualties. They lacked the cover of warlocks and crossbowmen, as well as sufficient lethal weapons, and their armor and shields were old and sluggish.
The excavation site had descended into chaos. Some of the infected with weapons were trying to seize more trucks to escape, while others, perhaps blinded by the atmosphere, were charging at every enemy in black armor in their line of sight with makeshift weapons.
This disrupted the guards and also caused the shield guards to be attacked quite a bit. Fortunately, the old man's burly body caused a large number of infected and slaves to instinctively avoid this dangerous core.
The scene grew increasingly chaotic, with the sounds of fighting and clashing weapons echoing through the sky. The infected fought with any weapons and tools they could find, including even fragments embedded in the soil that needed to be cleared away.
Sharp metal fragments wrapped in a thick layer of canvas become a rather sharp dagger, while larger fragments are lifted up by several robust infected individuals to serve as shields.
The Ursus people hadn't considered this at all. They were also overwhelmed by the richness and size of the ruins and instinctively thought that the scattered, worthless fragments and metal pieces were just discarded trash.
"Pull up the gate! Don't let them in!" General Boris roared hoarsely, but no one could hear his command in the chaotic battlefield. Ursus crossbowmen fired their bolts at the crowd with all their might, initially forcing back many infected who were trying to rush down into the excavation site, directing them to charge towards the edge of the excavation site in the opposite direction.
However, soon when several burly men rushed over carrying door-sized pieces of wreckage, the general's head suddenly spun; he hadn't understood much of what they'd heard in the lab.
However, it is understandable that the metal plates in these ruins should have the defensive capabilities of a mobile fortress armor.
"Clang! Clang!" The arrows struck the metal plate with a futile sound. "Aim for their legs! Shoot his legs!"
"Damn it, Doctor, shut up!" General Boris roared, grabbing the doctor and shoving him into the research station. "Don't cause trouble here!"
The crossbowmen did react to the doctor's warning and shot down the first few infected, but his terrified screams were clearly heard by the attacking infected.
"Bang!" The infected put the metal plate on the ground and pushed it forward with their numbers. Now the crossbowmen could only shoot the infected behind them through the edges and gaps of the metal plate.
However, there were too many metal pieces scattered on the ground, especially after the infected and the shield guards occupied the material shed and the adjacent station, making these makeshift protective shields even more abundant.
Many shield bearers also discarded their shields, which had been scorching hot from the Ursus warlocks' attacks, and picked up these makeshift shields that had been hastily modified by the infected.
It felt like a tiger had wings; the flames released by the warlock, when they hit it, had absolutely no effect other than a slight impact.
The metal material used to withstand the direct heat from stars in space and the frictional heat from entering the atmosphere was bombarded with flames of no more than 800 degrees Celsius, created by sorcerers, as if trying to heat the armor plate of a warship with a lighter.
As for crossbow bolts and incendiary bombs, they were completely ineffective. The Shield Guards organized some of the infected who still had their senses and launched a counterattack against several camps from which the Ursus regular army was pouring out, blocking them inside.
"Boom!" The thick gate of the excavation camp was pushed down by the infected, and the crowd rushed into the camp below the research station. Those wearing protective suits were their primary targets for revenge. These guys in protective suits forced them to approach the huge ruins without any protection, enduring terrible radiation and toxic gases.
Every day, dozens or even hundreds of people fall, becoming part of the mass graves outside. Not to mention the things leaking from those pipes and the twisted wires flashing with electric arcs. The former can easily turn into gushing high-temperature flames, while the latter only needs a thin arc of electricity to instantly kill an adult.
This is undoubtedly a matter of life and death, using the most brutal methods to complete the excavation work. Everyone knows that the impact of natural disasters prevents them from excavating here for a long time, and they also have to consider the approach of other countries' powers.
The goal is to extract all the valuable information in the shortest possible time. If that's not possible, extract as much as you can, and then deal with the other forces.
In contrast to the infected who were driven by a vengeful frenzy, the Shield Guards were scattering to search for valuable loot and supplies. It's important to understand that these tens of thousands of infected could not possibly return to the Ursus interior to live, and settling them in would require far more than just a little bit of supplies.
Even if most of the infected might not follow the Shield Guards, even if only a small portion do, their livelihood and equipment still need to be considered, as they are engaged in this meaningless life of danger and bloodshed. Obtaining enough spoils and supplies from the battlefield is also part of the war.
Give me the thing!
"General, this device is not finished yet..."
"Get out of my way!" General Boris shoved the scientist aside and pulled his helmet up over his head. "Let's go burn those damn thugs to ashes!"
All three "Dragon Flame Cannons" that had been modified—which they considered to be like the breath of a dragon from legend—were taken away by Boris and his personal guards.
The infected were already climbing the stairs and pipes towards the research station. However, he believed these thugs would soon be reduced to ashes in the dragonfire.
The research station door opened, and the general grabbed the metal knife that was coming towards him. Although it was strong enough, it also meant that it was impossible to make a sharp edge in a hurry, so it could not cut through his heavy gloves.
Boris kicked the infected slave in front of him with his combat boots, then shook off the arm he had torn off the man's shoulder. He completely ignored the screaming and howling of his own wounded soldiers on the ground, and paid no attention to the foremen and researchers who were being chased and hacked at.
Through the thick helmet, he took a deep breath. "Come on, the show's about to begin! Let these trash and garbage see what real terror is!" Then he pulled the trigger.
A flash of sunlight appeared and disappeared in an instant, and the seven or eight infected people in front of him were blown to the ground almost instantly. Most of their bodies were carbonized and turned into a terrifying blackish-red color.
This kind of attack is actually equivalent to a forced start-up of this "industrial plasma cutting machine" under low power conditions, which manifests as blowing out a wide and blunt high-temperature ion jet instead of a stable ion blade. Moreover, these usage methods are explicitly prohibited in the instruction manual and industrial safety regulations.
Frequent coughing can cause the restraints near the nozzle to be damaged by violent vibrations.
Moreover, the wide spray area can easily ignite nearby flammable materials, causing a fire, and may even spray people and set them on fire.
When using it correctly, the user needs to check three parts: the nozzle restraint, to ensure that the cutting blade is not crooked and cuts the worker in half on the spot;
Check if the ion fuel tank and ionization chamber are damaged; otherwise, if it explodes on the spot, there won't be a single intact piece of flesh belonging to the user on the ground.
Finally, check the power supply. Whether it's battery-powered or cable-powered, ensure the power supply is working properly to avoid this coughing phenomenon.
However, Boris treated it like a water cannon or a wind cannon, and he loved the effect. Every shot produced a loud bang, accompanied by violent mechanical vibrations, which could send a group of people flying even from 40 or 50 meters away.
Some people even started burning in mid-air, turning into charred, burning corpses upon landing.
If it's a close-range spray, it can even blow a person into a pile of charred fragments on the spot.
The new weapon, literally "annihilated," greatly intimidated the infected, and even the shields of the Shield Guards who gathered to save the day couldn't withstand it.
In an instant, their shields became molten and hot to the touch. Scorching hot ions of millions of degrees clumps clung to their bodies, seeping into the gaps in their armor and burning them from the inside out, leaving them wrapped in their own "skin" and burned alive.
Whether they were ordinary infected or elite shield guards, they were all taken down in one hit by the "Dragon Flame Cannon." This quickly turned Boris's mood from anger and despair to smug satisfaction. This achievement was beyond imagination, and both the Emperor and the Duke would be overjoyed.
This weapon, which renders all martial arts, bravery, and armor useless, may greatly displease some conservative nobles, who may denounce it as a coward's weapon. However, when it comes to actually using it, they will find it more appealing than anyone else.
It's like how a farmer shooting a knight with a crossbow is considered a cowardly, shameless, and despicable act, but knights and nobles are incredibly skilled at using crossbows, while only those conservative guys in Kazimierz still reject crossbows.
Of course, even in Kazimierz... they were using crossbows, the largest kind at that—which shows that whether a weapon is despicable or not depends entirely on which side controls it.
As the "passport for the despicable," Boris was very satisfied with this weapon. Those damned infected and traitors were nothing but bugs in front of the Dragonfire Cannon, and were trampled into pieces by the swarm, turning into charred corpses on the ground!
"Click!" The Originium Power Backpack's battery had run out of power. The nozzle only flashed briefly, and nothing happened. "Damn it, what a disappointment!"
Boris had unknowingly used up all 10 rounds of ammunition. Under the cover of his guards, he retreated to the back, dropped the heavy backpack on his back, and his attendant dragged over a new power backpack for him to hang on. The powerful Dragonfire Cannon was ready to use again.
Just as Boris was changing his power backpack, the black-armored giant dispersed the heavily wounded shield guards and infected, telling them to grab their belongings and run away, while he himself met Boris's personal guards.
"Bang!" The giant dodged the flash of the Dragon Flame Cannon, then hurled his halberd with all his might, impaling one of the guards wielding the cannon into the ground. Another guard, in a panic, fired wildly, but nothing happened.
Seeing the massive shield, as large as a door, hurtling towards him, Boris hastily raised the Dragonfire Cannon, which he had just replaced with a new backpack, and roared, "Boom!"
Patriot felt as if he were holding the sun in his bare hands; his shield melted like grease. He quickly dropped the shield and lunged at Boris with open arms.
Then a second Dragonfire Cannon shot blasted into his body, instantly melting his armor. Even the scale-like Originium blocks on his skin melted under the intense heat. With his last shred of consciousness, Patriot managed to hold onto Boris.
His hands gripped the other man's throat like iron clamps, and the burning cloak and melting armor dragged him into the scorching hell.
"Boom!" A dragon fire cannon slammed into the ground beside them, the impact separating the two men. Faced with the shield guards who came to their aid, Boris's personal guards had no choice but to retreat and take the general, whose face was mostly burned, with them.
