"Ding-dong~ You have a message..."
The device in front of Stark beeped, and then he stood up, preparing to return to his room.
"Hey, hey, hey, where are you going?" Rocket Raccoon ran up to Stark, waving his arms.
"Go do what smart people do." Stark patted Rocket Raccoon on the head and closed the door.
What smart people do?
Smart people…
Sometimes this isn't a good word.
Rocket Raccoon stood there stunned for a few seconds before turning around and finding that Rogers, who had just been on the treadmill, was gone.
"Where's the captain?" Rocket Raccoon asked Barton.
"He just went out," Barton said without turning his head.
With a thud, Rocket Raccoon plopped down on the ground, a hint of despair on his face.
“Alright…you…stop teasing it…” Natasha said, enunciating each word clearly.
What? Rocket Raccoon's droopy ears suddenly sprang up.
Barton helped Natasha to the sofa, then knelt down next to Rocket Raccoon. "Do you remember what you did when you first came here?"
"What?" Rocket Raccoon blinked, trying to bluff his way out of it.
"Oh, that's all." Barton got up to leave.
"I'm sorry!" Rocket Raccoon immediately bowed and apologized. He had just arrived on Earth and had been criticizing everyone in the villa. This was partly because he was naturally sarcastic and partly because he was venting his anger. This world was not the world he had originally expected to arrive in.
“I will apologize to everyone. Can you tell me what happened?” Rocket Raccoon said, glancing up at Barton’s expression as he bowed.
“I hope you truly realize your mistake,” Barton said, pointing to Stark’s room and lowering his voice.
“Stark is taking on some jobs he would never have looked at before, mostly custom-made personalized systems for various training schools.”
He moved his finger to Rogers's battle suit leaning against the corner of the wall. "The captain is doing odd jobs. His physical abilities are not low, so he can do some dirty and tiring work that is not cost-effective on the mystical side and that no one wants to do except for official assignments."
After saying that, Barton pointed to the second floor, "Bruce and his counterpart in this world are conducting a psychological study, an opportunity that Dr. Banner helped secure."
At this point, Barton stood up, walked back to Natasha's side, and helped her up again.
"Also, Ant-Man went to the lab to work with Tony, Jess, and others on how to increase the reliability and applicability of Pym Particles."
"Nebula is still too scared to wake up. The only way she can communicate with us is through dreams. She is very afraid that more information will be leaked."
“I don’t know Thor, but I’m sure he’s not idle.”
“It’s not just you who’s been concerned about getting back and rescuing people. Everyone’s kept it in mind, but we’ve passed the point of showing our anxiety on our faces. Instead of wasting time on that, we should think of ways to increase the chances of our proposal being approved.”
"Oh, right, it seems like I'm the only one who's useless. Say whatever you want," Barton concluded.
"Sorry... I didn't know..." Rocket Raccoon felt a little guilty, scratched his hair, and hopped back to his room in a few steps.
Tony granted the computers in each room some access to view Ouroboros platform missions, and he also planned to check it out, hoping for more points and a bit more hope.
Chapter 287 The Vampire Plague
In the dead of night, on a deserted street, two arrows streaked through the air and accurately struck two men wandering the street.
With a loud bang, the two targets were blown to ashes.
After a loud eagle's cry, a scruffy-bearded man landed on the street, picked up some ashes from the ground, rubbed them a few times, and then frowned.
"Master, what's wrong?" Blade landed beside Van Helsing and asked. They had just returned to the city after a special training session in the mountains.
“Something’s not right,” Van Helsing said, placing a bit of vampire powder on his tongue.
"Ptooey!" Van Helsing spat out the powder quickly, his brow furrowed. "It tastes very faint, like blood."
However, the Blood Servant's main body is still human, so it won't be blown to ashes like a vampire.
"Let's go, let's sweep through this city tonight." Van Helsing changed his plans. Originally, he was going to find the people at the Clock Tower to get some medicine for Blade and try to break through.
“No problem!” Blade calmed down, and arcane energy surged within his body, simultaneously activating the power of a Witcher potion already present in his body.
Under the influence of the two energies and Blade's half-vampire physique, his teeth changed slightly, his face began to lengthen, and his eyes started to have red blood vessels, making him look somewhat like a purebred vampire.
After entering pseudo-vampire form, Blade raised his head, and the scent of his "kin" entered his nostrils from all directions, while the hunter spell - Mark Prey - also spread out in all directions.
During this process, Van Helsing took a small bag and collected the vampire ashes on the ground, just in case it turned out to be a special kind of vampire.
With a whoosh, Blade opened his eyes abruptly, and Van Helsing could sense the surprise on his face.
"What's wrong?" Van Helsing twirled the blade in his hand twice. "An earl? A marquis? Or the forgotten duke?"
"No...it's just too dense..." Blade looked around. If he wasn't mistaken, this small town was practically a fucking vampire's lair!
"... "
Van Helsing sensed something was wrong, so he cast a tracking spell. The result of the spell's feedback startled him. "Let's take a look!"
It took Blade and Van Helsing more than two hours to run through the entire town before they met up again where they had parted ways.
"How much?" Van Helsing's hand trembled slightly as he lit his cigarette.
"I can't calculate it all, but it's at least two thousand or more." Blade was almost driven crazy by the calculations.
“I have over three thousand here, and this town only has tens of thousands of people in total…” Van Helsing took a deep breath. “Something’s not right, something’s not right. Even when vampires were at their most rampant, the ratio wasn’t this high. There’s not even enough blood to go around.”
"These little bats aren't mosquitoes, they only suck a tiny bit at a time. If they keep sucking this many, the blood bank won't have enough!"
"Master, should we call someone over? The two of us might not be able to handle this," Blade said while wiping his silver blade.
"I'll cut off your head! Are you planning to massacre the entire city?!" Van Helsing glared at Blade. "There's definitely something wrong with this. Did you actually do anything while you were calculating?"
"No." Blade shook his head. He also found it strange; a vampire's perception shouldn't be this low.
“Search further out, this time focusing on finding any high-level vampires. If there are any, kill them first. If not, things will get complicated,” Van Helsing continued.
The next morning, Van Helsing and Blade squatted on the roof of a high-rise building in a town, looking down at the residents walking and eating normally in the sunlight, and exchanged a glance.
They both saw endless confusion in each other's eyes.
I searched all night and found nothing. As for these guys who seem to be vampires, they are not afraid of sunlight or ultraviolet rays, and some of them even eat garlic for breakfast.
That's not all. What's even more terrifying is that Van Helsing also saw some suspected vampires wearing silver necklaces around their necks. The necklaces ranged in style from crosses to yin-yang symbols, almost including all the symbols of various religions!
This is absolutely outrageous!
Van Helsing was a veteran vampire hunter, having killed at least a thousand vampires; he had seen it all.
He had never seen a scene like this before.
"Master, what should we do?" It seemed that this was the only question Blade could ask.
"Wait a minute, I'll make a call." Van Helsing said, taking out his phone, snapping a few photos of the street, and then dialing an old friend's number.
After a long while, Van Helsing turned back, rubbing his temples in distress.
"Master, what did they say over there?" Blade asked, getting up.
“They’re scared too, they’ll send someone over immediately. Here, take this and go through the Ouroboros’ teleportation array to the research institute.” Van Helsing pulled out the powder he had collected the night before and handed it to Blade.
"Then, Master, what about you?" Blade asked, taking the bag.
"I'll go check out the nearby towns. Hopefully, it's just a problem here, an isolated incident," Van Helsing said worriedly. Humans already have such a huge advantage, how could the vampires possibly make a comeback? What gives them the right?!
Things didn't go as planned. After visiting several nearby towns, Van Helsing had to admit that this seemed to be a very common occurrence.
While the density in other areas was not as high as in the first town, the proportions were still very abnormal.
Vampires are monsters who love to enjoy life and have extremely high psychological requirements for their environment. They are generally concentrated in cities, and are rarely seen in small towns.
But now, vampires make up more than one percent of the total population in every town, which is simply impossible.
Ouroboros personnel quickly arrived at Van Helsing's side, and according to him, expanded the verification to ten towns, and then immediately sounded the third-level epidemic prevention alarm.
The spread of vampires is so extensive and their numbers are growing so rapidly that this can no longer be treated as an ordinary matter.
"Mr. Van Helsing, you are an expert on vampires. Do you have any insights you could share with us?" The Ouroboros staff member asked Van Helsing, holding up a report.
“Not now. I have to take responsibility for my words. I request to observe and make contact with ten special vampires at close range. If possible, please arrange it as soon as possible,” Van Helsing said very seriously.
"I will report this to my superiors, please wait a moment," the staff member said with a hint of regret.
Van Helsing's old friend, the Ouroboros regional manager, saw the staff come out and quickly came over, asking, "What did he say?"
The staff member shook his head. "He said he'd never seen it either, sir. Do you think we should continue the quarantine?"
"Continue, and do as he requests." The officer scratched his head. "Also, issue the highest alert, codenamed 'Vampire Disaster'!"
Chapter 288 If you can't solve the problem, you can solve the guy who created it!
The Clock Tower, the Virus Recombination Research Lab, is where research and improvement work on the T-virus continues as usual.
Sizzle~~~
The door opened, and disinfectant spray spread to both sides with the flow of air.
Clap clap clap! The team leader clapped his hands as he entered, drawing everyone's attention.
"Following an emergency order from the Clock Tower Council, research on the T-virus is temporarily suspended. Everyone is to reconstruct and analyze the samples that have been sent to find out exactly what it is!" the team leader shouted.
"Yes!" Shiho Miyano responded, then noticed that the sample was just a few grains of powder. She looked up in confusion and said, "Team leader, this isn't your area of expertise."
"Never mind whether it's a good fit or not, all the research labs are already mobilized. Everyone, join the group chat with me first. This is a major operation initiated by the Plague Department of the Heavenly Court. We'll follow their instructions later." The team leader's expression was very serious.
At the Heavenly Court's Plague Department, Lü Yue was almost frantic with work. Various messages floated around him, but he didn't even have time to connect to them.
"Minister, all medical-related research institutions at the Clock Tower have joined the group. What are your thoughts on the next steps?"
Lu Yue paused for a moment, then pulled out a document from the side. "Let's first verify the effects of these spells on pseudo-vampires again, and also do some in-depth testing to see if there are any undiscovered side effects."
"Yes!"
"Wait a minute." Lü Yue suddenly called out to the person who came in. "Has Minister Doumu given any suggestions? For example, what exactly is this thing?"
"Minister, you didn't receive the message, how would I know..."
“Alright, alright, you go first. Also, contact Heimerdinger and Li Xiaoyao to activate the Earth-encircling defense network and keep it purifying for 24 hours a day,” Lü Yue continued.
