As the stage made of special materials began to recover on its own, several freshmen below had their eyes shining. Wow, this thing is a tyrant in nature!
People struck by lightning often don't even have a chance to be saved; they die instantly. Even if they survive, they usually suffer from a host of aftereffects. And most importantly, they're cool!
With a wave of the hand, a bolt of lightning could be summoned. What boy wouldn't be tempted? Not to mention boys, even girls would be completely powerless against it.
Looking at the slightly admiring gazes of her younger schoolmates below, Cassandra slowly raised her wand and chanted a lightning and thunder incantation.
To be fair, Cassandra is truly gifted in lightning spells. After only a year of study, she was able to control the lightning spells to a limited extent, and even with thunderclouds floating above the stage, not a single bolt of lightning struck prematurely.
Although the attack was never actually shown, the lightning bolts that flashed through the thunderclouds were enough to shock the newcomers.
Even if I don't have the same talent and comprehension as the top student on stage, Cassandra has only studied for a year. If I study for a few more years, I can catch up with her now!
This was the thought in the minds of many freshmen present, and at that moment, Cassandra became the role model they wanted to pursue.
The desired effect had been achieved, so Cassandra didn't actually unleash the lightning and thunder, as that would consume a lot of magic and mental energy. There were still several performances to come, and it wouldn't be good to overexert herself at this point. The next performance was simpler: inviting a freshman to come up and personally experience the power of the spell.
Cassandra's eyes swept across the crowd, then were immediately drawn to Leona's full-body armor. This new student seemed to have brought her own equipment to school, and might even have undergone formal knight training before. With someone like that as an opponent, it would be less likely for anything unexpected to happen.
“This new student, come up here and cooperate with me.” Cassandra pointed at Leona and said. She didn’t need to use her finger because a wand is like a gun; you can’t just point it at anyone. Even with the stage’s defenses, this rule still needs to be followed.
“Me?” Leona wasn’t too keen. To be honest, Cassandra’s performance was rather mediocre in her eyes, not very interesting. She was less interested in the surrounding buildings and the food on the table.
“Yes, don’t worry, I won’t get hurt. I’ll be very careful.” Cassandra nodded and said. She was a bit domineering, perhaps it was the academic aura that came from always being ranked first on the Hogwarts individual combat power list.
"Okay." Leona shrugged and walked toward the stage without much concern. Although she wasn't particularly happy about it, she was here to study, and she had to give her senior face. It wasn't something that was particularly difficult to do.
The teacher in charge next to her looked at Leona with some confusion. Although he wasn't in charge of admissions or student affairs, he had roughly looked through this year's freshman roster and didn't see Leona's photo.
Could it be someone planted by a leader?
The teacher looked at Leona's expensive full-body armor and nodded. It seemed that he was right. Being from a wealthy family had its advantages; they could even add people midway through the program.
Regardless of what the teacher thought, Leona still went up on stage and stood on the other side of the stage, facing Cassandra.
The freshmen below stared intently at the two people. One was the top senior student of the second year, and the other, although they didn't recognize her, was wearing a very impressive suit of armor.
"Dear juniors, Hogwarts is a very free school, but we still do not recommend wearing a full suit of armor when you first arrive, because when you first learn about spells, agility is more important than the defense that armor can provide."
Cassandra gave a slight bow and looked at Leona, saying that this was a little something she had learned, and also a small gift for the new student.
However, Leona felt a little unhappy after hearing this, not because of the armor, but because she realized that she hadn't bought a new dress despite the sun being out for so long.
"Also, you need to stay focused during combat; if you lose concentration, you'll end up like this!"
Cassandra, seeing Leona's appearance, suddenly waved her wand, "Upside-down Bell!"
The spell shot out from the tip of the wand, hitting Leona directly without her making any attempt to dodge, then bounced off her armor and landed on the ground beside her.
The new students below looked at Leona expectantly, seemingly waiting for the spell to take effect; they were newcomers and didn't know what was going on.
The older students were different, especially those standing a little further ahead. They looked at each other in bewilderment. That armor had deflected the spell directly?!
Cassandra was even more bewildered. From her angle, she couldn't see clearly where the spell had gone. She could only glance down at the wand in her hand. There was nothing wrong with it, so why did it turn out like this? Had she mispronounced the spell? But that didn't make sense either. She had practiced it hundreds or thousands of times and didn't feel there was anything wrong this time.
Fortunately, the chief's mental fortitude was still strong. Cassandra quickly regained her composure, flicked her wrist, and cast an "Inflation Charm!"
The spell arced through the air and landed at Leona's feet. This time, Cassandra chose a spell with some area-of-effect damage. Single-target spells didn't work, so switching to another type of spell was fine.
However, even after the inflatable spell hit, it was like a mud ox sinking into the sea, without making a ripple.
At this point, even the freshmen sensed something was wrong. The senior student called out twice, but there was no response at all.
Honestly, it would be a miracle if there was any reaction. What level of armor is Leona wearing? How could a wizard who hasn't even reached the level of a formal professional break through it? Even if Dumbledore were here now, he would have to figure out what spell to use to break through it.
Leona smoothed her hair, her gaze falling on Cassandra's scarf. It looked quite nice, and many of the Slytherin seniors around her were wearing it too. Was it issued by the school?
Sensing Leona's disdainful gaze, Cassandra's face flushed slightly. She had a premonition that she might mess things up again this time.
"I fainted!" Cassandra simply used the most lethal spell she could use on the stage today.
Just like the first time she was thrown upside down, she was bounced off by the armor. This time, Cassandra, who was completely focused, noticed something was wrong. It turned out to be a problem with the equipment. That was better, but it meant that what she said at the beginning might have backfired.
“You go on the attack, I’ll defend,” Cassandra said, taking a deep breath.
"Me? Are you sure?" Leona asked to confirm.
“Yes, come on.” Cassandra’s expression was serious; she was determined to uphold her dignity as the top second-year student. With a wave of her wand, she declared, “Bless all!”
A blue shield appeared, but Cassandra still felt unsafe, so she immediately waved her wand again, "Protect Your Body!"
The freshmen below cheered again, because they could only understand it with special effects. The upperclassmen on the other side also breathed a sigh of relief. Cassandra was still very cautious, using two spells in one go. This time there shouldn't be any more problems.
On stage, Leona hesitated. Although it was her first time on Earth, Leona wasn't stupid. She knew she couldn't take this person too seriously, but how far should she go to avoid taking things too seriously? Leona wasn't quite sure.
Leona glanced down at her bracelet, then thought for a moment and decided against using the Zenith Blade. She couldn't take it out, and even if she could, it wouldn't be appropriate.
Or you could just go in and throw a punch; hitting the shield instead of the person shouldn't be a problem.
With that thought in mind, Leona simply walked up to Cassandra and threw a punch at her.
The shield that had been enhanced by all protection was as thin as paper in front of Leona's fist, shattering at the slightest touch. Moreover, the wind generated by the punch blew Cassandra away, sending her flying straight into the illuminated shield at the edge of the stage.
Her armor was shattered, and Cassandra fell to the ground, her eyes already filled with tears. Leona reminded her of the scene at the exchange meeting. That's right, it was Cassandra who was sent flying by Chen Xiaohu's stick.
Leona panicked, unsure of what to do with her hands. "No, no, no, don't cry! Why don't you attack instead?"
Cassandra felt even more aggrieved. "Attack! I can't even break through your defense. This is so humiliating. How am I supposed to stay in school after this?"
Chapter 309 A Leader Must Know How to Extort Money
When things started to look a bit off, Gao Wen finally sensed the energy fluctuations in the venue and rushed over immediately.
"Leona, what are you doing?!" Gawain exclaimed in surprise as he looked at Cassandra lying on the ground and Leona in a defensive stance.
"Huh? Teacher? Me?" Leona pointed at herself, a big question mark above her head.
Even more intense than Leona's reaction was Cassandra on the ground. She looked at Leona with an incredulous expression, as if to ask, "How dare you bully the weak, and pretend to be a freshman to bully the weak!"
Do they even resemble a teacher anymore?!
“Leona, Cassandra, come with me.” Gawain immediately took control of the situation, then casually pointed to the top student of Ravenclaw, “You will temporarily take her place and continue the next segment.”
The Ravenclaw leader nodded and quickly went up on stage, but at this moment, the freshmen's attention was all drawn to Leona, especially Daniel, whose mind kept replaying his conversation with Leona. He wondered if there was anything inappropriate in it...
In the security office, Gao Wen first took Leona in to understand the situation, and then breathed a sigh of relief. It turned out to be just a misunderstanding, so everything was fine.
If I send the message to Artoria via the faster-than-light communication channel and explain the situation, there won't be any problems.
"Cassandra, come in for a moment," Gawain called out, looking up at the door.
Cassandra pushed open the door, having cleaned herself of the dust and returned to her noblewoman form. However, she didn't look at Leona, indicating that she still harbored some resentment.
Of course, that's normal; anyone in that situation would have some complaints.
Leona was straightforward. Although the problem didn't originate from her, she had still laid a hand on him. She bowed slightly and said, "Cassandra, I'm sorry, I apologize to you."
"Ah, no need, no need." Cassandra waved her hand hastily. She hadn't expected Leona to be so straightforward. Being apologized to by her teacher for the first time not only relieved her grievances but also made her feel inexplicably happy.
"It all started with a misunderstanding." Gawain took a booklet out of his drawer. "Now that you've forgiven Leona, let's leave it at that. How about it?"
“Okay, Mr. Gawain.” Cassandra nodded. Before she came, her family told her not to act like a spoiled princess, because being expelled from school would be a big problem.
The problem is only one aspect; more importantly, it's the loss of opportunity. A person only has a few chances to change their destiny in their lifetime, and for Cassandra, this opportunity was truly rare, and once missed, it would be gone forever.
"Teacher Leona, please wait here for a moment." Gawain, carrying something from the desk, led Cassandra out of the head of security's office. Once outside, Gawain handed Cassandra the item he was carrying—a list of potions.
“There were indeed problems with our arrangements and reception this time. So, I’ll give you your performance award and last semester’s scholarship in full in advance. Choose three potion ingredients from these, and pick them up from the logistics teacher tomorrow. I’ll let you know in advance,” Gao Wen continued.
Now, Cassandra was a little excited. Earth's energy concentration was relatively low, averaging less than one-fifth of Asgard's. Therefore, the growth of various mystical materials was very slow, and in some places they simply did not grow at all. Only places like schools could still have some reserves.
However, those were basically supplies allocated by the People's Federation, which only distributed them once a year, and there were no more.
"Thank you, teacher." Cassandra didn't stand on ceremony; if she didn't, she was afraid she'd cry herself to sleep that night. She took Gawain's booklet. "Teacher, I'll be going now."
"Wait." Gawain called out to Cassandra, who was turning to leave. He glanced behind him and saw Leona poking at something in the office with interest. He then whispered in Cassandra's ear, "Don't be discouraged. Leona is very strong. Even I can't beat her, so losing is normal, you know?"
Cassandra nodded, indicating that she understood. In fact, after learning that Leona was her teacher, her sense of defeat had already disappeared.
“Okay, let’s go to the venue. There are still many activities to come, have some fun,” Gawain said, patting Cassandra on the shoulder.
After Cassandra left, Gawain's straight body slumped a little. Being a teacher is really difficult. Not only do you have to make your students learn well, but you also have to pay attention to their mental well-being at all times. After all, each of these students could be considered a weapon of mass destruction if they were outside the classroom.
If they are not taught well, that would be a grave offense.
"Teacher Leona..." Gawain paused after calling out as he entered the office. Looking into Leona's clear, big eyes, he didn't know what to say for a moment. "What subjects are you good at? How about I arrange some lessons for you?"
"Me?" Leona was confused. What subject was she good at? She didn't even know what subjects Hogwarts had.
Moreover, Leona lacks both combat experience and life and learning experience. In terms of teaching, even a properly trained apprentice could teach her better than her.
Looking at Leona like this, Gawain had a bit of a headache, but he couldn't show it no matter what. As the most ruthless of the Knights of the Round Table, Gawain knew his limits, especially since the person in front of him was a legend. No matter how he showed it, that's what the letter said, and the League of People acknowledged it, so it couldn't be wrong.
Gawain feared that Artoria would come and skin him alive if he angered a new legend.
"So, Ms. Leona, how about you take on the role of a dormitory supervisor first? You'd be responsible for some of the students' safety. If anything goes wrong, just let me know and then patrol the classrooms at night to see if any students are breaking the rules. What do you think?"
After thinking for a long time, Gawain selected some of the responsibilities of a life skills teacher and assigned them to Leona.
Safety is a given; surely a legendary figure wouldn't be able to take care of some students? Besides, the school already has a comprehensive defense network. Patrolling would essentially be giving Leona free time to arrange things, since who uses manpower for patrols at Hogwarts?
“Okay.” Leona nodded and happily took the work card from Gawain.
Watching Leona leave, Gawain described her as a very kind and easy-going legend.
Meanwhile, Artoria, who was about to leave the Clock Tower, received the message and immediately changed locations. She is now slamming her fist on the table in front of Heimerdinger.
"What do you mean? What do you mean? Why did you tell Leona she was going to be a student? If Gawain hadn't arrived in time, she almost beat up the real student, you know that?!"
"My fault, my fault, it was just a little joke, a mistake on my part. How about I talk to Leona and have her go to China first?" Heimerdinger was full of questions, but he still had to smile at Artoria, since it sounded like he was the one who had caused the trouble.
"What do you mean?" Artoria looked like she was not to be trifled with, arms crossed, exuding an air of authority. "You think that Li Xiaoyao and the others can manage things that I can't, and that they can teach things that I can't?"
"No, I was just worried something else might happen. Is that student alright?" Heimerdinger knew from Artoria's expression that he was in for a rough time and was probably going to be ripped off. Otherwise, Artoria's behavior was so different from her usual self.
Artoria felt a strange unease, as if Heimerdinger had predicted something, but she didn't have time to worry about that now. "Nothing serious happened, just some property damage. What do you suggest we do?"
“Go ahead,” Heimerdinger said, adopting a very humble posture.
“Dumbledore hasn’t returned yet, and we’re really short-staffed,” Artoria said, looking at Heimerdinger.
"I can't do anything about the personnel problem. There's a shortage of manpower everywhere. Besides, the things you teach, my people can't teach them either," Heimerdinger said helplessly.
"Why can't it be a substitute? Isn't the magical device you made somewhat similar to Dumbledore's spells? They both pursue standardization, repeatability, and universality." Artoria's true intentions were revealed; she had come to ask for her teacher.
In such a vast place as Hogwarts, not a single third prize was won at the exchange meeting. It was incredibly disheartening for her, the highest leader of the mystical side of the British Empire.
