“This area has nothing to do with you, and the things on it are naturally none of your business either. However, I’ll take the liberty of giving you one,” Dahl continued, trying to provoke him.
"Why don't you hurry up and thank General Dahl?" the frost giant beside him laughed loudly, his mocking laughter shaking away many of the snowflakes falling from above.
"I thank you for dying!" Mo Yalin couldn't hold back any longer and hurled a rolling stone from his right hand.
This action was exactly what Dahl wanted. The moment he saw the rolling stone appear, he slammed his giant club heavily onto the ground, and a crack immediately appeared on the ice, spreading outwards towards the mountain giants as if to devour them.
Snapped!Snapped!
Two crisp sounds rang out. Mo Ling's fist first shattered the rolling stone thrown by Mo Yalin above his head with a punch, and then a heavy hammer blow blasted the ice surface down two meters, completely filling the gap that Dahl had created.
“Dal…” Mo Ling slowly straightened up, his enormous body, which was over twenty meters tall, exuded an unimaginable sense of oppression.
"What do you want to do?!" Dahl swallowed hard.
Moring is a near-legendary warrior, and even though he is quite old, Dahl is not sure if he will actually live to see Laufey if a real fight breaks out.
Dahl dared to be so arrogant because he firmly believed that Merlin would not launch a reckless attack without regard for the entire mountain giant race.
But now, seeing Mo Ling's somewhat impulsive manner, he immediately chickened out.
"Heh, put the prey down. Consider it a gift to some cowardly rat, so it won't starve to death," Mo Ling said, turning around.
Then, the entire mountain giant hunting party turned and left, except for Moyalin, who was still carrying the largest prey in his hand.
Despite the fact that Mo Ling seemed to have regained some face, they ultimately had to abandon their hunting grounds and give up the prey they had risked their lives to hunt under the pressure of the Frost Giants.
This is a loss of both substance and face.
Watching the mountain giant's departing figure, Dahl's face turned pale. He had been humiliated. That damned old stone.
When Lord Laufey settles his scores with you, I will smash all the people he cares about to death in front of this old stone!
After both sides left, Yang Qiu landed on the abandoned carcasses of the prey. Dahl was indeed disgusting; he didn't want them himself, nor would he allow the true owners of the prey to take them away.
After witnessing an internal conflict between giants, Yang Qiu suddenly felt that the original plan could be expanded a bit more.
The Frost Giant is unstable both internally and externally, so how can it only be used on one side?
Yang Qiu waved his hand, and a seven-colored feather pen floated in the air. A crystal-clear egg with lifelike icy wings engraved on it slowly sank to his feet.
After penetrating deeper into the ice, the previously dormant ice egg began to vibrate, as if a heart that had been dormant for a long time was starting to beat again.
After doing all this, Yang Qiu instantly caught up with Mo Ling's group.
The atmosphere in the hunting party was somber. The mountain tribe's food reserves were running low. Starting today, the planet would enter another harsh winter, with temperatures dropping day by day. Without sufficient food, many mountain giants would not see the coming spring.
After all, they belong to the giant race, not elemental beings, and they still need essential survival supplies.
Furthermore, because the mountain giants are generally very large, each one needs a lot of food. Also, because their attributes are not compatible with the natural environment, the arrival of winter will increase their consumption.
Originally, the mountain giants' hunting grounds were very large, enough to support all their people. However, in recent years, Laufey has repeatedly breached his contract and shrunk the hunting grounds, making the mountain giants' living environment worse day by day.
“Father, how about I lead some people to find a way to poach? Hunting in other places must be stopped. If we continue to exploit them, their numbers will never recover.”
After a long silence, Mo Yalin spoke up, saying that the area Dahl had shrunk was the one they had visited the least, because it was too close to the main control area of the Frost Giants, and any slight disturbance would be discovered.
Mo Ling shook his head, opened his mouth as if to say something, but then fell silent again.
The current situation with the Mountain Giants cannot be resolved by poaching. The only way is for a legend to emerge from among the Mountain Giants, so that at least a deal can be negotiated with Laufey face-to-face.
Mo Yalin is the most promising member of the tribe. He has already reached the advanced professional level before he even came of age. He will most likely be able to enter the sub-legendary realm after he comes of age. If he gets some more opportunities, he may be able to overcome that hurdle.
Mo Ling is too old. It is already very difficult for him to maintain his current level. He is no longer able to advance further. What he wants now is to give his clansmen more time to develop.
"Father! This really can't go on any longer! Many people are so hungry they can't even stand up!" Mo Yalin pleaded. "Please let me lead some men and give it a try!"
"Young clan leader, you can't take this risk! Let me do it! I'll bring men!" the hunting captain said.
"Alright! Stop talking, I have my own ideas." Mo Ling closed his eyes in pain, but it wasn't that he had no other way to get food.
That is to have some of the Mountain Giants join the Frost Giants' fighting force, which is basically to make them cannon fodder, reduce food consumption, and bring back a little bit of meager food from Laufey.
However, such mountain giants have no future. Of the ten able-bodied men who go, perhaps only one will return. How can a tribe that is left with only the old and young develop?
Yang Qiu listened and sighed. To protect, one must have a power stronger than destruction; otherwise, one will face the same situation Mo Ling is in now, surrounded by enemies, and no matter which way one goes, it will be wrong.
After walking for several hours, Mo Ling led the team back to the mountain giants' dwelling place.
"Clan leader!" The remaining personnel saw Mo Ling and immediately ran over.
"What happened?" Mo Ling glanced around and noticed that the house seemed unusually quiet, which made him a little uneasy.
"They went to Dushi..."
The guards were mountain giants who were too old or had lost their fighting ability due to not eating for too long.
The monolith is a sacred site for the mountain giants in this area. It was originally a huge meteorite that fell from space, and every mountain giant would choose it as their final resting place.
As the giants of the mountains fell into eternal slumber, the monolith slowly transformed from a meteorite into a towering mountain.
However, the average age of the mountain giants who travel there is getting younger and younger.
"Father, I'm going after them right now!" Mo Yalin dropped the prey he was carrying on his shoulder and immediately prepared to set off.
"Let's go home..." Mo Ling squeezed out a few words.
The sacrifice of those giants might have been enough to help the mountain giants survive the cold winter, but how many giants' parents, children, and friends were among them?
Mo Yalin opened his mouth, but seemed to be silenced, unable to utter a single word. In the end, he simply bent down, picked up his prey from the ground, and walked inside.
After being away for several days, they only brought back a mammoth. Even Mo Yalin didn't know how to get those people back.
A cold wind blew by, scattering the footprints behind the group.
Standing atop the solitary rock, Yang Qiu gazed at the mountain giants struggling to make their way through the wind and snow.
Crouching down, Yang Qiu placed his right hand on the mountain and began to write on the huge tombstone with a quill pen, writing out new life and hope.
With a rumble, the entire mountain suddenly bulged outwards a little, and the gaps around it also widened slightly.
Chapter 385 The Four Elemental Gods of Jotunheim
Late at night, the temperature around the monolith had dropped to around minus forty degrees Celsius. In such extreme cold, even the mountain giants began to shiver, and stones kept falling off their massive bodies as they trembled.
"Uncle, we seem to be almost there, but the monolith seems to be glowing," Mo Shan said as he ran over.
"Glowing?" Mo Xing struggled to lift his feet out of the snow and looked into the distance. Indeed, amidst the falling snowflakes, he could vaguely see a pale yellow light. That direction should be where the monolith was.
"How interesting. To be able to see such a view before dying, you can be considered to have made a profit in the end." Mo Shan said with a sigh as he stood next to Mo Xing, his right hand hanging limply in front of his chest, looking completely powerless.
"Our deaths are for the better lives of more of our people. This deal is already worthwhile," Mo Xing said with a smile. Death was not something unacceptable to them. They had already made all the necessary mental preparations when they left the tribe.
After continuing for another hour or two, the group heading towards their deaths arrived at the foot of Dushi Mountain.
"Is it just my imagination? The snowflakes here seem much smaller." Mo Shan stretched out his hand and felt the snowflakes falling from the sky. After a while, he nodded seriously. It wasn't his imagination.
“And the temperature seems to be a bit higher.” Mo Xing’s eyes lit up. “Take the people up a bit. If geothermal heat has suddenly appeared here, it might provide a better environment for the tribe to recuperate.”
"That damn dictator won't let us leave this area, but he certainly didn't expect that a geothermal area would suddenly appear in this region."
"No problem, just wait here." Mo Shan nodded, his mood much more cheerful, as if the hunger from his empty stomach had been somewhat dispelled.
Upon reaching the summit, Mo Shan was astonished to find that things were indeed as he had guessed: the higher he went, the higher the temperature became. By the time he reached the halfway point, the perceived temperature seemed to have reached above zero. In the camp, it would take a lot of fuel to reach such a temperature.
Huhu~
Mo Shan took a couple of breaths; it had been a long time since he had engaged in such strenuous exercise.
"Are you hungry?" Mo Shan paused for a moment, then turned to ask the people behind him.
“No, I even feel a little full?” an elderly mountain giant said, wondering if his brain was malfunctioning from hunger.
“Indeed, it seems there really is something magical about this place.” Mo Shan lifted his leg, and the rich yellow spiritual light fell off his leg, returned to the ground, and merged into the soil.
"Go back quickly and report to Uncle Mo Xing to see how they are feeling. I'll continue climbing a bit higher," Mo Shan instructed.
After climbing several hundred meters further, Mo Shan stopped. He had once been a warrior in the tribe, but during a hunt, he was gored hard by a giant mammoth, and his right hand was completely broken. However, it brought a lot of food to the tribe. Unfortunately, the tribe's medicine was completely inadequate, and the damage caused by the frost power transmitted through the mammoth tusk turned Mo Shan from a warrior into a burden.
It was for this reason that Mo Shan appeared in this procession heading towards death.
Mo Shan moved his right hand slightly, and whether it was just his imagination or not, he felt that his arm didn't hurt as much as before.
dong dong dong...
A slight vibration reached Mo Shan's ears. Mo Shan stopped warily and looked around, but found nothing. As usual, there was no vegetation on the rock, only yellowish-brown stones.
After listening for a while, Mo Shan tried placing his hand on the ground.
His eyes widened in shock. The mountain seemed to be breathing, the thumping sound like a heartbeat. With this sound, the entire mountain vibrated slightly, the two frequencies almost in sync.
"You...hello, you...came to...see me?"
A dull voice entered his mind from Mo Shan's palm.
Mo Shan was startled at first, but quickly calmed down. This was the burial place of countless predecessors. Even if ghosts really appeared, what was there to be afraid of?
“No, but who are you, and where are you?” Mo Shan replied.
"Whoosh~ Whoosh~ Whoosh~"
Mo Shan received no response, only the sound of snoring, as if the guy who had spoken was asleep.
After waiting for a while, Mo Shan immediately turned around and went down the mountain. He wanted to tell Mo Xing everything as soon as possible. He had a premonition that the mountain giant's hope had appeared.
When they returned to the foot of the mountain, Mo Shan discovered that several people were missing from the group. After talking with Mo Xing, they learned that a strange "satisfaction" was still being generated at the foot of the mountain, as if the mountain giant could obtain some kind of energy replenishment as long as he stepped onto Dushi Mountain.
After telling Mo Xing about the sounds he heard near the mountainside, Mo Xing fell into deep thought. After a long while, he shook his head and said, "Let's wait for the clan leader and the others to arrive. Anyway, things can't get any worse than they are now."
Just an hour later, Mo Ling and Mo Yalin arrived at the foot of the monolith.
As the tribe's only legend, Mo Ling immediately sensed the flow of energy upon arriving here; the mountain seemed to be feeding them all.
Mo Yalin had a similar feeling, but it wasn't as clear as Mo Ling's.
"Let's go up the mountain and take a look." After hearing what Mo Shan said, Mo Ling immediately led Mo Ya Lin and Mo Shan to climb towards the top of the mountain.
After arriving at the place in Moshan where he heard the thumping sound, Mo Ling stopped. From this position, he could sense that a steady and profound life was being conceived within the entire mountain.
"I am Mo Ling, the patriarch of the Mountain Giants. Who are you?" Mo Ling asked.
Huhuhu~
All that could be heard was the sound of a sound sleeper snoring.
Mo Yalin scratched his head. He had a thought: maybe they were talking too softly. In the past, when Mo Ling was asleep, he couldn't wake Mo Ling up even if he spoke.
