"Whether it works or not doesn't matter. Just like your signboard, it's just for peace of mind, and hopefully you'll say a few good words about me." The boss chuckled, joking. He never believed in such things.
"Haha, you've really figured things out," Lam Ching-ying laughed.
"You flatter me. Your signboard is truly insightful. I've never seen anything like it in all my years. Usually, most signs are wrong nine times out of ten, but this one is absolutely wrong, hahaha." The owner was beaming as if he had some good news at home, swaying his body as he cooked the noodles.
Lin Zhengying smiled as he looked at the boss, a few copper coins spinning in his palm. After a few seconds, the coins stopped.
"Your wife had a smooth delivery, a boy and a girl, twins! Congratulations in advance!" Lin Zhengying said, bowing to the shopkeeper after putting away the copper coins.
"Hey, you're really good at understanding people's psychology. I haven't even said what it is yet," the boss replied nonchalantly. Everyone in the neighborhood knew that his wife was going to have a baby.
"Isn't that a nice thing to say?" Lin Zhengying asked nonchalantly.
“Yes, that sounds really nice to me now.” The owner said, putting the noodles into a bowl and handing it to Lin Zhengying. “I don’t have anything special, but please have a bowl of braised pork intestines and pickled vegetables noodles. It’s a specialty from my hometown.”
"Then I won't stand on ceremony."
Lin Zhengying brought over his reward, a large bowl topped with a layer of fatty intestines, followed by a layer of sweet and sour pickled vegetables, with rice noodles clumps at the bottom. It was cooked to perfection when picked up with chopsticks.
After slurping down a bowl of noodles, Lin Zhengying placed his chopsticks on the table, said goodbye, and prepared to leave.
"Where are you going?" the boss asked instinctively while busy.
"Go to the police station." Lin Zhengying walked out the door with his hands behind his back.
Upon hearing this, the people in the breakfast shop immediately started discussing it.
"Police station, this guy has probably swindled a lot of money. These days, Taoist priests and monks are just out to make money."
The owner, who was placing the noodles on the table, quickly replied upon hearing this, "You wouldn't dare say that. He's truly skilled, and his fees aren't expensive. If you don't believe me, go look at his signboard."
Ring ring~
As they were talking, the boss's phone rang.
After finishing the call, the boss's expression immediately became anxious.
"What's wrong? Did something happen at home?" a neighbor asked, noticing his pale face.
"My wife is about to give birth, she's in the delivery room!" The boss's words were urgent yet tinged with anticipation.
"Then why bother opening a shop? Hurry up and go, we'll look after the shop for you," the neighbors urged.
"Okay, everyone, I'm sorry, we can't make noodles today. If you've eaten any, it's on me. If you didn't have time, I'll make you a bowl next time we open."
The boss took off his apron and hung it on the wall, muttering to himself.
Hearing his words, the guests didn't say anything. After all, his wife was about to give birth, and whether they had eaten or not, they were just sharing in the joy.
Meanwhile, inside the police station, the chief was looking at a large pile of documents in front of him.
This contains information on everyone in the entire area who is involved in fortune telling, feng shui, or similar practices.
"Have all the people listed here been questioned? Are there any people who were missed?" the bureau chief asked, head bowed.
"There's also a Taoist priest named Lam Ching-ying. I called him, and he'll be coming over this morning."
"Alright, go ahead. Remember to be polite when you ask questions, okay?"
"understood."
After everyone left, the bureau chief stood up, walked to the window, and looked outside.
He still can't forget the meeting he attended during training a month ago.
It's unbelievable that there are actually people in this world who understand magic.
However, it seems that those who know magic are all active in the United States right now, and there's been no news from them here, which is not good news.
Of course, the bureau chief was unaware of this matter; he had only received orders to conduct a verification of all relevant personnel within the area.
This decision was made after communication between China and Russia.
Since so-called mysterious individuals have also been discovered in Russia, it's impossible that there aren't any in China as well.
Putting aside everything else, just based on population ratios, there should be quite a few relevant people within China.
Unfortunately, despite the official investigations, no information was found, and all those who were found were ultimately identified as fraudsters.
There was no other way but to pass the information down to the grassroots level to make the investigation more effective. If that didn't yield any results, then the higher-ups would have to prepare for a deal.
Even if it costs a lot, we must learn the mystical things from other places.
As a major world power, we absolutely cannot be without this kind of thing, especially when we have already determined that others have it.
"Master! Master! You've dropped your copper coins."
At a bus stop near the police station, a passenger spoke to Lam Ching-ying, who was about to get off the bus.
Lin Zhengying looked back and saw that indeed, one of his copper coins was now standing quietly on the ground of the bus.
The copper coin fell? Is this a sign that my identity is about to be exposed?
A thought flashed through Lin Zhengying's mind. He reached out and picked up the copper coin, thanked the person who reminded him, and walked away.
After getting off the bus, Lin Zhengying stood next to the bus stop, his palm open. The copper coin in his palm had turned to powder at some point and was scattered by the wind.
Not only was his identity exposed... but there was also danger...
Lam Ching-ying frowned.
But this area is a police station, a place with a strong yang energy, and the weather is sunny. What kind of thing would dare to cause trouble here?
After thinking for a long time without coming up with any possibilities, Lin Zhengying could only shake his head, dust off his hands, and walk towards the police station.
Chapter 74 What magic exists in this world?
"Chief, why don't you come and take a look?" The door to the chief's office was pushed open, and a police officer poked his head in.
Director Li looked up from the document. "What's wrong? Has something happened?"
"Hmm...didn't you tell me to keep an eye out for people who seem a bit off? This Taoist priest, Lam Ching-ying, is a little suspicious," the officer said.
With a snap, Director Li immediately stood up. "Take me there!"
He's a little excited now; is he about to find his target?!
Therefore, when going downstairs, Director Li made a point of straightening his clothes to make himself look more respectable, and at the same time, he tucked in his slightly protruding belly.
It wasn't until I got downstairs and saw Lam Ching-ying and heard what he said that my stomach suddenly sprang up again.
Police officer: "Master Lin Zhengying, right? How accurate are your feng shui and divination methods?"
Lam Ching-ying: "This isn't about whether it's accurate or not, it's about psychological comfort, you understand? Psychological comfort."
The officer paused for a moment. "Psychological comfort? You graduated with a degree in psychology?"
Lam Ching-ying: "No, I studied engineering. It's mainly for psychological comfort, like burning incense, you know?"
Police officer: "Incense? What kind of incense?"
Lam Ching-ying: "It's the kind of long one, you can light one end with a lighter and it will pop and start smoking."
The officer paused for a second, then pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out, and asked, "This one?"
Lam Ching-ying suspected this guy was playing a trick on him. "It smells good! It's not a cigarette! Never mind, let's talk about feng shui calculations instead."
Police officer: "Okay, so is your feng shui calculation accurate?"
Lam Ching-ying: "..."
Director Li took a deep breath and looked at the police officer beside him. "Is this Taoist priest acting strangely? Or is the person asking the questions mentally unstable? How was this person recruited? Did he pass the civil service exam?"
The officer scratched his head. "He passed, and his score wasn't low. Actually, you can't blame him. You don't know, before you came down, this Taoist priest Lin gave him a half-hour science lecture, and he talked until he was dizzy."
Lam Ching-ying sighed deeply. He didn't know what to say. Was the person asking these questions just trying to fish for information? In this day and age, can anyone claim to be accurate in their predictions?
Claiming to be accurate in calculations and accepting money can, strictly speaking, lead to detention.
“My calculations are inaccurate. Have you seen my signboard? It’s unreliable every time I try to predict something,” Lin Zhengying said, rubbing his temples.
"Hmm... if your calculations aren't accurate, why do you still need them?" the officer asked instinctively, then realized his question was inappropriate and thought for a moment before replying, "Could it be because you don't want to work on a construction site? That's understandable; I didn't want to either, which is why I took a job as a laborer and then took the civil service exam."
Lin Zhengying really didn't know what to say. He also wanted to ask this person how he passed the exam.
“Child, let me tell you, there is no such thing as fortune telling in this world, and Taoist arts are all fake; they don’t exist!” Lin Zhengying’s voice rose several octaves.
The other people in the interrogation room turned to look at them. A Taoist priest explaining to the police that fortune-telling was fake and that Taoist arts didn't exist—how absurd did this sound? Had the persona been reversed?
Just then, a man with bloodshot eyes suddenly rushed to Lin Zhengying's side, grabbed his sleeve and wouldn't let go, crying, "Taoist Master! Taoist Master! You have to save me! There's a female ghost in my house! And she's possessed my wife!"
His wife followed, looking helpless. There were obvious scars on the woman's face. She first smiled apologetically at Lam Ching-ying, and then gently patted her husband's back.
"Honey, that's enough, that's enough, stop making a fuss. You've been under too much work pressure lately, let's go to the hospital to get checked out," the woman said softly, but her husband seemed not to hear her, just looking up at Lin Zhengying.
Director Li beckoned over the officer in charge of taking statements and asked in a low voice, "What's going on here?"
"Domestic violence, but the neighbors, including the woman's parents, all said that the man used to be a very good person, a model husband, and the best neighbor. He rarely even swore, let alone hit her. The couple had a very good relationship for many years. The woman also felt that her husband might be sick and did not intend to pursue the matter. On the contrary, the man was unwilling to leave and had been lingering there for several hours."
Director Li looked at the police officer with a puzzled expression. There had been too many strange things happening lately. "Who called the police?"
"After calming down, the man called the police on his own initiative, and his wife couldn't stop him." The police officer was also helpless. All sorts of strange things often happen at the police station, but it's rare to see anything this bizarre.
Lin Zhengying twitched his nose twice. Something was wrong with this man; his scent was off. However, under the police station's suppression, the scent was very faint. If it weren't for his profound Taoist skills, he might not have been able to detect it.
After much deliberation, Lam Ching-ying left a trace of magic on the man, intending to deal with him after leaving the police station; it was best to avoid being exposed if possible.
"Husband, husband, look at you, it's not good to be holding onto someone like that, Taoist priest, I'm so sorry." The wife gently pulled the man away, being virtuous and patient from beginning to end, without showing any sign of anger.
After being interrupted by this incident, the police officer taking Lin Zhengying's statement recovered and his questioning became much more normal. Half an hour later, Lin Zhengying's questioning ended, and he walked out of the police station.
While waiting for the bus at the bus stop next to the police station, Lam Ching-ying suddenly looked up at the entrance of the police station. The man who had asked him for help was walking out, accompanied by a police officer and his wife.
Lin Zhengying channeled his magic into his eyes and saw wisps of black energy floating around the man's waist. As they got closer to the police station entrance, the density of the black energy continued to increase.
"Don't go out!" Lam Ching-ying shouted!
The man looked up and saw Lam Ching-ying. He instinctively wanted to go over and ask for help, so he quickened his pace and stepped across the line.
Suddenly, a phantom image shot out from the jade pendant at his waist and pounced on his wife.
"You audacious demon! How dare you harm people!"
Lin Zhengying subconsciously raised his hand and flicked it, and a wooden sword grew longer in the wind and shot out rapidly.
The wooden sword arrived in the blink of an eye, pinning the ghostly figure to the ground.
