The Ancient One's plan required a villain and a hero in addition to Mephisto, and she entrusted this choice to the people in the plan. Unfortunately, it seems that Kaecilius is determined to be the villain. As for the role of the hero, the Ancient One is not sure whether to let Morley play it.
If you want to disband the Kamar-Taj Mage Order without incurring the wrath of the Clock Tower and the soon-to-appear Mystic Side, the only way is to transfer that hatred to another target.
As for the heroic figure, that was a backup plan left by the Ancient One. After all, if there is no leader after the Kamar-Taj Sorcerers disband, there might be chaos for a while, which would also be detrimental to the Kamar-Taj Sorcerers' integration into the Clock Tower.
Seeing that the Ancient One was no longer speaking, Yang Qiu also fell silent. He was an outsider in Kamar-Taj and it wasn't appropriate for him to interfere too much. Anyway, the Ancient One wouldn't do anything reckless or messy, so he just let her be.
"Spread a message for me," Gu Yi suddenly said.
"Ah, no problem, go ahead, what news is it?" Yang Qiu replied.
“This message must be made sure it gets here,” Gu Yi continued.
"Simple, a piece of cake." Yang Qiu waved his hand and said. He still had a large number of Kamar-Taj Temple mage prisoners under his command. If he wanted to send some messages to this place through them, it would be an easy task.
Chapter Ninety-One: Power from Hell
"Have you heard? The results of the meeting are in. The Ancient One has given the Eye of Agamotto to the Clock Tower for a month to make up for the previous lapses of the various sanctuaries."
The monks on the Himalayas gathered together in hushed tones and discussed the matter.
"What about the Heavenly Court in the East? Don't they have any objections? I heard that the Hong Kong Temple's mistake was even greater."
"I don't know. The talks between the Heavenly Court and us haven't even started yet, but I estimate that the Eye of Agamotto will be in the hands of outsiders for at least the next two months. Sigh, this is really..."
"Those temple mages are really up to no good! They can make such a big mistake with something so simple. I heard that the deputy mages in charge of the Hong Kong temple even wanted to break the seal. It's a good thing he's dead, otherwise I would have killed him!"
Listening to the discussions among the sorcerers, Morey felt a little moved. It seemed that the Ancient One did care about them, otherwise she wouldn't have handed over the precious Eye of Agamotto. They were truly disappointing! They had to work harder in the future to regain their dignity!
While Morey was encouraging himself, Kaecilius quietly withdrew from the crowd. Once no one was around, Kaecilius excitedly pumped his fist. Without the Eye of Agamotto, the Ancient One's monitoring of the timeline would have flaws! His chance had come!
Composing himself, Kaecilius entered the room, sat upright, and looked at the small statue. "The Ancient One won't be returning anytime soon. Give me your power, and I'll review it on her behalf beforehand! Then I'll make arrangements for you!"
Mephisto couldn't help but laugh at Cassius's behavior. What was he trying to prove in front of this ancient fox who was thousands of years old? A little white rabbit trying to pretend to be an elephant?
He even audited him on behalf of the Ancient One? Why not say he banished him back to Hell on behalf of the Ancient One?
Of course, that's what he thought, but Mephisto said he wouldn't say it that way.
"Ah, you are truly a responsible mage. I hope the next Sorcerer Supreme won't be you, or I'll have far fewer troubles," Mephisto said, feigning praise. He felt his compliment was insincere, but it should be enough for this mentally unstable guy in front of him.
A barely suppressed smile appeared on Casillas's face. "That's impossible. As the Sorcerer Supreme, you certainly can't come even once a year!"
Pshaw... If you were the Sorcerer Supreme, this planet would be my second home.
Mephisto, while looking down on Kaecilius, unleashed his own power, allowing Kaecilius to take it from him using the methods of the Kamar-Taj Hermitage.
Kaecilius wasn't stupid. When he borrowed this power, he used all the defensive and transfer methods that the Ancient One had taught him. However, he obviously forgot the most important sentence that the Ancient One had said: the best defense is no contact!
Once the energy entered Casillas's body, Mephisto's backup plan immediately came into play, directly gaining control of a portion of Casillas's body and soul.
This little mage is too inexperienced to try and outmaneuver a demon lord from hell.
After gaining control, Mephisto immediately searched Kaecilius's surface memories and obtained the information from the conversation between the mages.
Did the Ancient One hand over the Eye of Agamotto?
Why is Mephisto so skeptical? If the Ancient One lost the Eye of Agamotto, wouldn't Dormammu be laughing his head off?
As for that so-called clock tower mage Kieran, Mephisto had never even heard of him. How could he possibly subdue the Ancient One and make her submit? And hand over the Eye of Agamotto?
Moreover, if there really were multiple Ancient Ones on Earth, could they still come and go peacefully every year?
Mephisto, an expert in intrigue and manipulation, immediately sensed something was amiss, as if he himself were now caught in a massive conspiracy.
However, this fool in front of us is almost completely fooled, so it would be a shame to give up now...
Mephisto looked at Kaecilius and pondered for a moment. This matter had to continue. At worst, he would be discovered by the Ancient One and then kicked back to Hell as soon as he arrived. Mephisto felt that it was worth it to exchange this price for the Ancient One being annoyed for a while.
Anyway, he can't be killed on Earth, so even if this avatar on his body is destroyed, it won't have much of an impact. He'll be back to normal next year. Otherwise, why would Mephisto come only once a year? That's the reason.
Having figured it out, Mephisto hid his avatar deep within the statue, gathering the energy that was spilling outwards, leaving only a one-way passage to Kaecilius.
Feeling the surge of power within him, Casillas was overjoyed.
He stretched out his hands and drew a circle in the air. The brilliant golden energy was mixed with some black, but in Casillas' eyes, the black did not exist at all.
He only sensed that the portal was more stable than before and opened faster.
Gazing at the slowly rotating portal before him, Casillas stretched out his right hand and squeezed it hard!
The crimson hellish energy invaded the portal, directly destroying its structure, and the energy contained within it scattered into the surrounding air.
Having suddenly gained immense power, Casillas was eager to show it off, but his reason told him that now was not the time to do so; he needed to remain hidden.
Hiding the statue in a secret compartment, and donning a hood, Casillas left the room and headed towards the top of a branch that was usually deserted.
Morey, who had been in the yard, watched Casillas leave and, remembering the question he had wanted to ask yesterday, quickly followed after him.
However, he was still a little slow and only saw Casillas's back after he stepped into the portal.
Morey stopped where the portal had disappeared. He twitched his nose. He felt that the smell of the portal after it dissipated was a little strange, not the same as usual.
He gently waved his hand towards his nose twice and smelled the gas.
Yes, it's not my imagination, there seems to be a hint of gunpowder smoke in the air.
Was Casillas carrying explosives or firearms? What would he be doing with them?
Morey was full of questions. Having spent so much time at the New York Sanctuary, the first thing that came to mind when he thought of gunpowder and gunpowder weapons was the mention of gunpowder.
At the top of a branch of the Himalayas, Casillas unleashed the power within his body in all directions.
With Mephisto as his energy pool, Kaecilius had completely transformed his arsenal. If the original energy was a river, it was now an ocean!
And the feeling of replenishing what you consume is just wonderful!
Casillas, his eyes red, looked at the charred landscape around him and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Chapter Ninety-Two: My pain has surpassed my strength.
Happy times are always short-lived. Kaecilius was all smiles all day, feeling the surging and abundant power within him. However, his joy didn't last long. When he woke up the next day, he discovered that the Ancient One, whom he had thought would return in at least a month, had already returned to the monastery.
"Why! Why did she come back so quickly!" Casillas paced back and forth in his room, as flustered as a cat on a hot tin roof. "That's right! Did you snitch on me?! Did you?!"
Mephisto, who was being pointed at by Kaecilius, didn't know what to say. This sorcerer's mentality was too unqualified. The Ancient One hadn't even done anything yet, but just returning had scared him like this.
And what about his tattling... Mephisto wanted to ask Kaecilius if there was any chance they wouldn't fight when he met the Ancient One.
Even in his confused state, Casillas sensed something was wrong, and crouched down, clutching his head, his whole body trembling.
Mephisto shook his head. It seemed he still needed to add some spice to Casillas's act; otherwise, the man wouldn't even be able to stand up.
Just as Mephisto was about to add more ingredients, Casillas suddenly turned his head and looked at the small statue he was possessing, his eyes were bloodshot, and there were black and red lines running across his face.
“You’re right, you’re right, she’s wrong, she’s wrong!” Casillas grabbed the statue and chanted, looking like he was having a fit of hysteria.
"What did I say? Hey, don't pin your own thoughts on me." Mephisto retorted directly to Kaecilius. How could he, a dignified ruler of Hell, be made a scapegoat by a mere mage? He couldn't bear the humiliation.
“Yes, if she were willing to give me everything, I wouldn’t need to seek power from you at all! If she were willing to help me contact the mage in that clock tower, I wouldn’t be in this situation!”
Casillas kept talking to himself, and a heavy hellish power emanated from his frenzied behavior, distorting the environment of the entire room.
"I finally found a path to become stronger, and she had to come back and block it. It's just too much, too much!" Casillas slowly raised the statue to his eyes.
Mephisto could see the madness and determination in Casillas's eyes. He had seen many people like this over the years, but it was quite rare to see someone like Casillas who could adjust his mood to this state with just a few words.
"Kill her, kill her, everything will be resolved if I kill her. I will be the next Sorcerer Supreme, and I will protect the Earth in her place..."
As Casillas spoke, he suddenly burst into laughter, as if he had found the truth of the world.
"Then you must be careful. She is your teacher, and the Eye of Agamotto is not available now. To make a move would be taking advantage of her vulnerability."
Mephisto calmly sang, his senses never fixed on Casillas as he spoke.
As the Ancient One's old rival, Mephisto always felt that the normal course of events would be for Kaecilius to open the door and find the Ancient One standing right there in the doorway.
"What do you know! My pain is greater than my power!" Kaecilius roared, in his madness he had forgotten to keep his voice down and to conceal the matter.
"Then go and deal with your own pain. What are you yelling about here?" Mephisto's disdainful tone deeply stung Casillas's heart.
He suddenly grinned, pulled his right hand through the air, and created a portal filled with the aura of hell. His whole body trembled, whether from excitement or fear, it was hard to tell.
Could this be the Ancient One's room...? This person is really out of their mind; it seems I chose the wrong person...
Mephisto remained calm and composed; he was prepared for the Ancient One to suddenly appear and send him back to hell.
Casillas clenched his fists in the air, and two blood-red longswords appeared in his hands. Then, he strode confidently into the portal.
Just as Mephisto had imagined, the other end of the portal led to the Ancient One's room.
But contrary to Mephisto's expectations, the Ancient One acted as if she had dementia, turning her back to Kaecilius as if she hadn't noticed any magical fluctuations at all.
Upon discovering this, Mephisto immediately activated the backup plan he had left inside Casillas's body, preparing to blow up Casillas's head along with his soul.
The Ancient One is practically deceiving ghosts! Uh… no, she's deceiving demons!
As the saying goes, the person who knows you best is your enemy.
Having been entangled with the Ancient One for hundreds of years, Mephisto was 100% certain that with such a commotion as Kaecilius, even if the Ancient One was injured and bedridden, she would not have failed to notice.
He was pretending nothing was wrong, with his back to Casillas—wasn't that clearly giving Casillas an opportunity to attack?!
There's definitely something wrong here. With so many unusual events happening at once, Mephisto would know he'd been tricked, no doubt about it.
Perhaps from the very beginning, the Ancient One was hiding in a gap in time, watching him bewitch Kaecilius, like watching a clown perform on stage. Mephisto couldn't accept that!
He was, after all, the dignified ruler of Hell; how could he possibly tolerate such an injustice?
Mephisto really wanted to ask, wouldn't it be better to just do things the same way as the past few hundred years? He jumps out to cause trouble, and the Ancient One comes out to clean up the mess and send him back to Hell. This is all "agreed" to be, so why change it?
In that instant, Mephisto realized where he had gone wrong!
Instead of focusing on paying off her debts, the Ancient One, a sorcerer burdened with debt, has started studying military strategy and engaging in conspiracies and schemes!
Mephisto was determined to do something that would not satisfy the Ancient One. His way of rebelling was to blow up the villain on the stage. Without the main villain, he wanted to see how the show could continue!
Suddenly, Casillas, who was halfway through the explosion, stopped. Not only did he stop, but the whole world seemed to stop.
Mephisto sensed the freezing of time around him and felt a sense of helplessness for the first time.
Who exactly said that the Ancient One handed over the Eye of Agamotto?
If it has really been handed over, then what is it that has stopped time now?
