While they were joking around, Nasus felt very heavy-hearted. He glanced through the documents in his hand, feeling quite uneasy.
After these legendary figures sealed themselves away, the worst off were the professional soldiers, especially the ascended soldiers. Now they don't even have a physical body anymore, and their spirits have been severely polluted, turning them into inhuman, ghostly beings called Darkborn.
Fortunately, things weren't hopeless. As long as they were brought back, with the Sun Disc present, Nasus was confident he could purify them and free them from this bizarre state.
After Nasus returned to the tomb, he immediately summoned Renekton, and together they reported to Azir.
"So, all the Ascended who are still alive are sealed within their former weapons, and those weapons are sealed within Ouroboros' containment chambers?" Azir asked.
“Yes, this containment chamber has now been deployed to the Chitauri planet as a means of delaying their space fleet’s deployment,” Nasus continued.
"How do we get there?" Azir asked simply and directly.
“There’s only one fastest way: to project across the Rainbow Bridge in Asgard. The fastest solo route we can use is over six months,” Nasus sighed. “The problem is, we can’t afford Asgard’s price.”
Azir didn't know what to say. Apart from their equipment and strength, they had nothing of value. The entire tomb was a temporary construction and there were no burial goods or anything like that.
"Are there any other options?"
“There is one other way, though it’s not a solution…” Nasus said hesitantly.
"any solution?"
"Become a containment object!"
Chapter 186 Numbered Sealed Artifacts
"Please come in. My place is rather simple, and I don't have much to offer," Merlin said with a smile, welcoming Nasus, who had contacted him through other channels, through the door.
This temporary base, created using spatial extension techniques, is indeed rather rudimentary, provided that one ignores the flowers blooming out of season and the life energy filling the entire base.
"You're welcome." Nasus paused, his eyes sweeping over a black cat lying on a chair. This black cat didn't look like an ordinary creature, especially since it was using a fish tank as a cushion, which was quite rare.
"That's the cat of the mage Kieran, and also one of the important members of the Ouroboros Association. Below is its pet fish," Merlin introduced politely.
"Meow~" An waved her paw as a greeting.
Nasus was momentarily speechless. This Ouroboros Society was truly peculiar. The official head of the European and American regions was a legendary mage who would bite his tongue when chanting, and an important member was a cat that kept fish as pets. This made Nasus wonder if he had been out of the public eye for too long and had been left behind by the times.
“Hello,” Nasus replied.
After both sides were seated, Merlin got straight to the point, saying, "We are aware of your needs and are very sorry about what happened to your ascendants. This is a problem caused by our shortcomings in our work."
Nasus stared at Merlin, subconsciously calculating his chances of winning if they fought. Unfortunately, he couldn't figure it out. Merlin was shrouded in magical fluctuations that were impossible to see through at a glance. Nasus even suspected that his current appearance might be the result of multiple disguises.
"However, according to the common terms agreed upon with the Heavenly Court and the Clock Tower when the Ouroboros Association was established, I regret to inform you that we are unable to meet some of your requests," Merlin continued.
“Go ahead.” Nasus was not surprised; the Ouroboros’ acceptance of their proposal and the quick response had exceeded his and Azir’s expectations.
"First, there's the containment chamber numbered 'Wooden Hut.' We really can't take them back right now, and we don't want to take them back. Please understand," Merlin said. Putting everything else aside, the cost of projecting Wooden Hut dictates that it can't be taken back so quickly.
“Okay.” Nasus didn’t say much. He was at a complete disadvantage. In this situation, the one thing he absolutely couldn’t do was take advantage of the other party’s politeness and cause trouble. History has proven that this is absolutely suicidal.
"Secondly, there's your idea of using a containment object to teleport to the Chitauri planet. It's a good idea, but there are some issues to clarify. First, we can't change the rules of the containment chamber for you. So, if you're teleported there, you'll have to be triggered like any other containment object before you can leave the cabin in the woods."
Nasus nodded to indicate that he understood.
"Secondly, each containment chamber has a limited space, and we cannot allow all three of them to be teleported there in this way."
Nasus was not surprised by this; they hadn't planned for all three of them to go together, and they would have achieved their goal if even one of them made it across.
"Third, due to distance and rule restrictions, we cannot provide any additional protection for those who go there, and you will have to bear the risks associated with this action yourself."
"I want to ask, what can I bring with me?" Nasus asked. If he couldn't bring his equipment or treasures, his strength would definitely decrease significantly, which would be very troublesome if a fight broke out.
"It's all fine. The containment chamber has a seal jointly placed by the mage Kilan and the Heavenly Emperor, so most items won't affect the final outcome. We're only limiting the number that can be contained," Merlin said.
The Ouroboros Association is essentially a loosely organized cooperative entity based on the Clock Tower and the Heavenly Court. To put it simply, it's somewhat similar to the United Nations, but the Ouroboros Association possesses considerable power and authority, and is not merely an organization that can only watch from the sidelines most of the time.
“Okay, I have no objection,” Nasus nodded in reply.
"Finally, this is a suggestion: if you're going there, it's best to go as soon as possible. Based on our predictions, the situation there will only get worse, and the sooner you go, the greater the chance of it being triggered," Merlin said.
“We can do it now,” Nasus said decisively. He had brought the Sun Disk with him, intending to complete the task in one go if possible.
"That's quite efficient," Merlin thought to himself as he took out a paper contract and placed it in front of Nasus. It contained the responsibilities of both parties and the disclaimers.
Nasus tapped the top of the paper lightly with his scepter, read all the information from it, analyzed and judged it with his superhuman thinking, and then signed his name.
Merlin then looked at Ann, who was lying down, and indicated that it was Ann's turn to lead the way. Only this kitten had the authority to be taken in through irregular procedures and to enter the shelter.
"Meow~!" Ann transformed into a shadowy passage, leading straight to the base location of the containment chamber in the forest cabin.
The cabin in the woods is indeed currently on the planet Chitauri, but it and its contents have left a base point with the Ouroboros Society. Through this base point, the Ouroboros Society can forcibly recall the entire containment chamber. This base point was also created by Kieran and the Celestial Emperor.
Upon entering the base point, Nasus immediately felt as if he were being held down by something, with no room to move his body or soul, and the energy within him also fell silent under the influence of some kind of rule.
“Mr. Nasus, please follow the procedure and do not resist instinctively.”
Merlin's voice reached Nasus's ears. Normally, this is not the procedure for containing legendary items. Even if you don't cripple them, you have to knock them unconscious. Otherwise, legendary items can easily break free of such restraints, and not only will the containment fail, but there may also be a situation where the containment of the entire group fails.
Nasus did not struggle; instead, his scepter and the sun disk at its tip lit up. Under the combined vibration of these two items, Nasus's body shattered into a particle and was slowly absorbed into the scepter. Then, several invisible chains attached themselves to the scepter, completing the seal and containment.
[Special containment successful... Administrator privileges detected... Information manually edited...]
[Item No.: 004, Item: Non-living (Weapon-like), Information: None, Level: Legendary.]
Merlin clapped his hands. This was the easiest containment he had ever done, and he didn't even have to fill out any investigation conclusions or handling opinions. It couldn't be easier.
Unlike the previous three times, when they almost knocked his head off each time, especially number one, which nearly turned the Ouroboros Association upside down.
In fact, by convention, each containment chamber usually contains only one numbered containment object to prevent these legendary objects from causing trouble if there are too many of them.
Of course, this exception did not violate the original meaning of the rules. Nasus could not possibly contact number one; he was only there to rescue someone.
Chapter 187 Silent Hill
"Hey, hey, hey, pick me! I'm a legend, I'm awesome! Those are containment objects that aren't even legendary!"
Nasus observed the outside world from a narrow perspective, constantly muttering to himself, but unfortunately his voice could only echo within the sealed point and could not reach the outside world at all.
"Sigh~" Nasus let out a long sigh after the person in front of him left.
This was the fourth person to pass by him, but still no one had touched his conceptual object, the scepter.
Nasus is now extremely eager to leave this place. One reason is to save the Ascended who have become Darkin, but another important reason is that he doesn't want to stay here any longer!
After becoming a contained object, Nasus discovered that more than 90% of the seals in the entire cabin's containment chamber were aimed at a single contained object. Nasus had no idea what was contained there, but as soon as he got close, he felt an overwhelming sense of danger, as if he might disappear from the world at any moment.
To avoid the mental pollution that still emanated from beneath the heavy seals, Nasus could only keep pushing forward. Unfortunately, if ninety percent of the seals were aimed at Number One, when he, Number Four, joined, a large portion of the remaining ten percent of the seals fell onto his body.
This left him with only a gap less than a finger's width to observe the outside world, completely unlike other contained objects who could sometimes move around in a restricted area.
Beneath an abandoned, primitive mine near the city, people come and go, and everyone's physical condition is not good. Malnutrition is the most common symptom, and most of them even suffer from severe radiation sickness. However, their mental state is much better than that of many people outside who are in a daze and unaware of life and death, because this is an important base of the revolutionary army.
Building beneath abandoned mines was a last resort; the radiation and fluctuations generated by energy veins could effectively conceal their activities and prevent them from being detected by the ever-present detection machines in the sky.
There's a saying that goes, "When Vietnamese echoes in the forest, Finnish in the snow, Russian in the ruins, French in the sewers, and Chinese in the stove, that's when the invaders will die!"
On Chitauri, this statement should be supplemented with the following: when the international language of Chitauri resounds in the mines, the oppressors will know that the resistance will never cease.
"Captain Mo, the preliminary experiments are almost complete. What we can confirm is that we cannot distinguish which sealed object is more powerful, and if the same person repeatedly enters and exits, the available sealed objects will always be the same." The Revolutionary Army member said to the organization's leader.
Mo nodded to indicate that he understood. "I understand. Let's start the next experiment. Have you selected people for the experiment that seem to have a lower cost? If not, I'll go."
"Haha, that won't do. The lads are all very enthusiastic and eager to make contact with those containment objects. If we can get a few more containment objects similar to [Laast], maybe we can really establish a solid base!" the Revolutionary Army said with a laugh.
"If I could see that day, I would be willing to die," Mo muttered to himself, then looked at his team members, "Remember to tell them to edit their reflections in a document. There are countless paths to revolution. If our path can go further and more smoothly, it might be promoted."
"no problem!"
After the team members left, Mo looked at the report in his hand and fell into deep thought.
When Thanos arrived, the ancestors of the past tried many paths: surrender, escape, resistance, revolution, and seeking help from the universe. Of all those paths, only revolution remained. The experiences of others proved that the only way to reclaim the sovereignty of the Chitauri was through revolution.
Relying on mountains will lead to their collapse, relying on people will lead to their abandonment; only by relying on oneself can one see the glimmer of hope.
Thinking of this, Mo picked up his pen and began to write annotations. There are many tools to choose from within the revolution, such as technology, magic, witchcraft, and so on. Now, one more thing needs to be added: suddenly appearing containment objects. Although the biggest problem with these suddenly appearing things is their instability, there is no perfect solution. We can only explore little by little.
Meanwhile, at a natural exit from the mine ruins leading to the outside world, several children who had just come of age stood there, watching their companions go.
"Sean! Be careful on your way!" a girl among the children suddenly said.
Sean waved his hand with his back turned to indicate that he had heard.
Sean, disguised as one of the self-conscious people in the slums, staggered towards the wealthy area. After getting a certain distance away, Sean stopped, knowing that if he went any further, he would definitely be discovered by the central system.
Sean found a quiet place, leaned against the wall, and began to hypnotize himself according to the method given by the sorcerer in the group. All the scenes he had seen along the way kept flashing through his mind.
They shouldn't live like this... No one should live like this...
The pain of being powerless to change anything filled Sean's heart. He squatted there and cried for a while. When Sean looked up, he found himself at the door of the cabin in the woods. His plan had worked once again.
Wiping away his tears, Sean took two deep breaths, preparing himself mentally. This time, he was truly going to take the contained object out of this magical place, and the price he would likely pay was his life.
The wooden floor creaked underfoot as the straw sandals pounded against it, creating a slightly eerie sound in the quiet environment.
Dangdang~
The weak chimes echoed in Sean's ears. He heard a lot in the sound: a powerless cry, a painful roar, and a vengeful charge.
Pushing open the door, Sean was somewhat surprised by what appeared before him. He had expected a bronze bell or something strange, but it turned out to be just a road sign.
With his enhanced vision, Sean immediately recognized the writing on the roadside; it was a bilingual script composed of square characters and letters.
Despite never having studied it, Sean understood what it meant.
[silent Hill]
Sean paused for a moment, then immediately pulled out a pen and paper and began to write down his feelings.
He wanted to escape. After seeing those three words, his brain kept telling him to run, but he didn't know if it was a hint from the so-called ouroboros or something else.
After writing down his simplest feelings, Sean crumpled the paper into a ball, threw it away, and then took his first step toward the road sign.
Chapter 188 A Spreading World, A Swarm of Monsters
[The Ouroboros Association warns you that the containment object you have triggered seals the tragic site of Silent Hill. Contact with it will cause Silent Hill to invade your city. Please be extremely cautious.]
Hearing the familiar prompt, Sean walked to the signpost, reached out and grabbed its base, and pulled it up from the ground. Instantly, a cold sensation spread from Sean's hand to his heart.
Once the containment device was triggered, the entire cabin in the woods vanished instantly. Sean emerged from the low, concealed cover, his body slightly hunched over.
