Mo Mo was taken aback, and for a moment seemed to understand something. He also looked at the girls flying over.

As Kazami Yuuka just mentioned, despite facing a dire situation, Yakumo Yukari still maintained peace and stability in Gensokyo, and even did many things that Kazami Yuuka couldn't stand.

So, what was she doing?

Mo Mo watched the girls fly over. They shouldn't have been here, yet they were now in this afterlife, having lost all their memories. Even worse, except for Kaguya Houraisan, the rest were already dead.

Dead people mean they are dead.

So, who killed them, and how were they killed?

Mo Mo suddenly felt an unyielding chill in his heart. What was the reason that made Kazami Yuuka and Yakumo Yukari become complete enemies, and even forced her to leave Gensokyo in the end?

"Reimu, are you alright?"

Mo Mo suddenly asked such a question, which seemed to be a lot of leaps in thought, but it seemed to be exactly what Kazami Yuuka was looking forward to.

"You're very good."

Kazami Yuuka sighed softly, then said, "I don't know about Reimu Hakurei's situation either... You don't need to look at me like that. Yukari Yakumo won't tell me what she's planning."

"What I do know is that Gensokyo actually suffered a second major battle before. However, this time, most of the residents of Gensokyo had no idea about it at all, because this time it was all handled by Yukari Yakumo."

"What she did during this process, and how she managed to secretly defeat the enemy, I don't know. Almost no one in Gensokyo knows. The only thing I know is... that Hakurei Reimu never appeared again after that, and many people in Gensokyo are gone."

"Until I also came to this afterlife and saw them again."

Kazami Yuuka shut up again, and it seemed that she felt she had said enough, and was not going to say another word.

This is Kazami Yuuka's pride. Although she has nominally become Momo's prisoner, prisoners also have their dignity and their own principles.

However, her pride was instantly shattered by Mo Mo.

"One last question: tell me the exact location of the guy you're protecting. If you don't, I'll dig three hundred feet into the ground and turn your garden into a sinkhole!"

Kazami Yuuka glared at Mo Mo and said, "Find the entrance yourself. Besides, after what you just did, it's uncertain whether the entrance and passage have collapsed, or whether that guy is still alive."

This time, Kazami Yuuka kept her mouth tightly shut, seemingly indicating that she really didn't intend to say anything.

Momo didn't press further. Instead, she simply greeted Konno Moyuki and the girls before heading back to where Kazami Yuuka's thatched hut had once been. Unfortunately, it was now part of the huge crater beneath their feet, and the hut was almost completely destroyed.

At Momo's command, the sisters piloted the Knightmare and began searching for the buried underground entrance. They believed they would have results soon.

"Dad, are you really not going to get any more information from Yuuka Kazami?"

Momo shook his head and said, "It's no use, Yui. I believe Kazami Yuuka wouldn't lie, so she probably doesn't know many things. If she stays in the garden and no one tells her about the changes in Gensokyo, she'll probably still be watering flowers even if Gensokyo is destroyed."

That's just how Kazami Yuuka is; Mo Mo can't do anything about it. Even if he were to take her prisoner and torture her severely, he probably wouldn't get any conclusions.

"Then Dad, why don't we look for another way to break through?"

Seeing that Mo Mo had temporarily given up on the possibility of Kazami Yuuka, Yui changed the subject and mentioned another person.

Upon hearing this, Mo Mo frowned and looked at the girls in the distance behind him, centered around Kazami Yuuka and Konno Yuuki. They didn't seem very interested, whether because they were frightened or for some other reason, he didn't know.

As for Konno Yuuki and Kazami Yuuka, who were surrounded in the center, the two were almost at each other's throats. Of course, this kind of fight was far inferior to the life-or-death battle between Momo and Kazami Yuuka just now; it could only be called a friendly spar.

Even so, this level of sparring kept the two of them on their toes, hoping to gain some inspiration from them. Sakuya Izayoi, who craved power; Marisa Kirisame, who was afraid of excitement but not enough excitement; Fujiwara no Mokou, who was full of manly charisma; and Kaguya Houraisan, who found everything new and interesting.

The only one who seemed out of place was Sanae Kochiya. She kept her head down, staring at her feet, as if she couldn't move normally without looking down.

"Has it been confirmed?"

Mo Mo asked softly, and Yui immediately nodded, saying, "Although I can't fully analyze the data of this world yet, I have made some progress. I can now roughly distinguish between the living people in this world and us outsiders."

Yui held up one finger, a confident smile on her lips, and said, "After my confirmation, Sanae Kochiya is the only one among all of us who has never died."

“If that’s all there is to it, then it might all be a coincidence. But if you add my scan results, which indicate that Sanae Kochiya isn’t from this world either, then that’s really interesting, Dad.”

"Does this mean that the living gods of Gensokyo, like Kaguya Houraisan and Yuuka Kazami, never died, didn't lose their memories, and are even living in the afterlife as people who know everything?"

Yui became increasingly excited as she spoke, seemingly believing she had discovered the whole truth. Mo Mo, on the other hand, appeared much calmer. She shook her head and said, "Let's put this matter aside for now. I'll have a proper talk with Sanae Kochiya next. I believe that, compared to Yuuka Kazami, who doesn't know this and can't say that, our married Sanae certainly won't bear to let us leave empty-handed."

"As for now... let's go see another important guest."

One of the younger sisters had already greeted Mo Mo. She had discovered the entrance to the underground passage, and Mo Mo also arrived at the entrance. Looking down at the steep and dark area below, she jumped down without any hesitation.

Mo Mo landed quickly, and the vertical passage turned into a downward-sloping passage. Following this dark and long passage, one would feel as if they could walk directly to the center of the earth.

The passageway was clearly affected by the aftermath of Momo and Kazami Yuuka's recent battle, with some sections collapsing. But none of this could stop Momo's progress. Before long, Momo arrived at a door, and through the glass doorway, she could see lights inside.

At the top of the door, there is a sign that reads "Third Computer Classroom".

"So, this is this NPC's twisted sense of humor?"

089 Hello, outsider

Mo Mo recalled the underground second computer classroom in the original work, which was never visited by any students, and couldn't help but complain about this mysterious NPC whom she hadn't met yet.

It seems this NPC was captured from the second computer lab and brought here due to the changes in the world after his death, and is being watched by Yuuka Kazami. Not content with his new life, he named his cell the "Third Computer Lab."

Just how obsessed is this guy with computer labs?

Could it be that the NPC's predecessor, the senior student council president who knew this world so well, was a seasoned tech geek who had an unbreakable bond with computers until his death?

Mo Mo suddenly felt that... this senior who died of loneliness was destined to be alone for the rest of his life.

After staring at the iron gate for a few seconds and gathering his thoughts, Mo Mo knocked on the door. The heavy iron gate made a loud banging sound, which echoed back and forth in the deep underground passage, sounding dull and profound.

Why knock on the door?

An elegant and composed baritone voice came from behind the iron gate, with a hint of a smile in it, as if the person behind the iron gate was already very familiar with Mo Mo.

Indeed, without Yuuka Kazami's knowledge, the two exchanged information through the shadowy chessboard and reached an agreement on certain aspects.

The mysterious NPC inside wanted Mo Mo to come and see him, and now, Mo Mo was standing in front of him, even though there was a heavy iron gate between them.

"Since you've come here, it means you must have already defeated that powerful woman from another world outside. So you should also know very well that this is a prison cell, and I am the prisoner in this cell."

"Do you expect me, a prisoner, to open the cell door for you just because you're knocking?"

The mysterious NPC's words seemed very reasonable, but Mo Mo smiled and said, "No matter how reasonable they are, they will have no meaning in front of you. Since you can modify this world, how could a mere iron gate control you?"

"The reason you are quietly here as a prisoner is simply because you have no demands regarding your position or your state; it is because of the programming and your master's wishes. Just like you want to see me and have something to tell me."

Mo Mo's response was met with silence from the mysterious youth, who then suddenly snapped his fingers. Immediately afterward, to Mo Mo's astonishment, numerous 1 and 0 symbols appeared on the iron gate before him, shifting and changing in the air to reassemble into a new gate.

This time, however, the door had been changed from an iron door to a perfectly normal wooden door.

"Welcome to my prison, which is now also my new stronghold."

The mysterious NPC's voice rang out again, accompanied by a click. The door opened, and Mo Mo walked in without hesitation.

The layout here is very similar to the room where Yuri Nakamura killed the mysterious NPC in the original work. There are countless computers with a huge number of characters flashing inside, clearly all busy at work.

"I knew it."

Mo Mo sighed softly. The mysterious NPC tilted his head curiously and asked, "Outsider, what have you discovered?"

Mo Mo smiled faintly and said, "In fact, in a sense, you have already become one with this world. You are indeed a mass of data developed by your master, but you are essentially the same as the data in this world."

"What does this mean?" the mysterious NPC continued to press.

"This means that your relationship with the world is like dropping a drop of paint into the sea. Although the sea may not appear to change color, the paint has essentially spread throughout the entire sea and become an integral part of it."

"Even because he is the only intelligent part, this tiny drop of pigment can dominate the hue of the entire ocean."

Mo Mo looked at the mysterious NPC and said, "Perhaps, I should call you Gaia of this world?"

The mysterious NPC's smile widened further as he said, "Gaia, if I understand correctly, is it the will of the earth, the will of the world?"

“Indeed, your deduction makes a lot of sense, and it can even be said to be true, because I have indeed integrated into this world, and I am the spokesperson for this world.”

"However, your deduction is wrong."

The mysterious NPC spread his hands and said, "I am ultimately just a program designed by my master. Even if I integrate into this world, I have no possibility of evolving on my own. No matter what power I have, I still have to carry out my master's orders in the end."

Even if this order is to make you disappear?

"As a tool, I can complete my mission and then disappear; that is my greatest honor."

Mo Mo stared at the mysterious NPC with a scrutinizing gaze, and the other party responded with a calm look. Mo Mo had seen this look in the eyes of her two big bosses, Alaya and Gaia, and this was their usual state.

After all, it's hard for anything to affect them anymore.

"I understand."

Mo Mo did indeed understand the existence and thoughts of the mysterious NPC in front of him, because it seemed difficult to understand, but was actually simple.

The mysterious NPC before us is probably powerful enough to influence this world, yet he was still killed and disappeared by Yuri Nakamura in the original story. This is a manifestation of his will.

Just as humans, as biological beings, have the will to survive and reproduce, the Alaya consciousness, as the collective consciousness of humanity, naturally strives to protect the survival and reproduction of humankind. This mysterious NPC before us was created from the very beginning to achieve the goals set by his master, and this has not changed because of his power.

Humans want to live, and their Alaya consciousness protects them. The mysterious NPC's master has a wish, and this mysterious NPC is determined to fulfill that wish, even if it means death.

As for what the mysterious NPC said—that he himself does not have the ability to evolve on his own—Mo Mo has reservations about that.

At least, Mo Mo didn't believe that Tachibana Kanade, the senior student council president, could create a Gaia by himself. If he did, wouldn't he be the creator?

Would such a powerful figure die alone?

"What have you figured out? Can you tell me? I'm very curious about your origins. You seem to know a lot about our world and possess strange powers. I need sufficient information to make a judgment about all of this."

Mo Mo reached out and a chair appeared out of thin air behind him. Mo Mo then sat down, and the two faced each other.

"What judgment should be made? Is it the judgment to kill me, an outsider, or the judgment to entrust your task to me, an outsider?"

The mysterious NPC opened his mouth, his face full of surprise, and said, "It surprises me that you seem to know everything."

"So, mysterious outsider, what exactly do you want to say, or what do you want to ask?"

Mo Mo remained noncommittal, instead continuing to recall the plot of the original work, specifically the scene where Nakamura Yuri killed the mysterious NPC in front of her.

What exactly is the reason for this place? Is there some hidden cause?

The reason this mysterious NPC appeared and caused the black mist anomaly is that love appeared in the afterlife.

The afterlife, where the dead are immortal, free from illness, and well-fed and clothed, serves as a transit point for those who die with resentment, but it is not their paradise. If they cannot leave with their wishes fulfilled, the number of dead in this world will only increase, causing the world to completely lose its balance.

Therefore, love must be destroyed.

At least, that's the reason presented in the original work, and the reason given by the mysterious NPC.

That sounds reasonable.

But is this reason credible?
