Chapter 1: Rukongai

Where is this place?

Xia Yan stood in this narrow street, with a gray sky overhead and low, dilapidated houses on both sides, and a depressing atmosphere in the air.

On a street corner not far away, there lay a person, thin and withered, with lifeless eyes, like a dead mummy.

Am I dead?

Xia Yan recalled what happened before he lost consciousness: a huge hole suddenly appeared in the house, and a giant monster emerged from the house, raised its thick arm, and smashed it down on him, after which he lost consciousness.

When I woke up, I found myself in this place.

Is this me?

Xia Yan noticed that he had become much shorter, and his arms and hands had become small. He saw a puddle not far away, walked to the puddle and looked down. He found a small face reflected in the puddle, with short black hair, a pair of deep eyes, slightly pursed lips, and a pale face.

It turns out, I've become a different person.

Xia Yan sighed, deciding to leave this dangerous place first.

He took a step forward and walked forward. Suddenly, a head appeared in the window of the house next to him. Xia Yan was so frightened that his body trembled. Then he looked and realized that it was a human face.

The man's face was very old, his eyes were sunken, and he had only a few sparse hairs on his head. He stood by the window and looked at Xia Yan for a while before turning away.

Xia Yan breathed a sigh of relief. The other person's eyes frightened Xia Yan, especially the lifelessness in them, the emptiness of having lost all interest in life, which was frightening.

Xia Yan didn't want to stay there any longer, so he quickened his pace and planned to leave the street.

He walked across the street corner, turned left, and came to a vacant lot. Next to the vacant lot was a large house, and two people were standing in front of the house.

One of them was burly with a scar on his cheek, while the other was young but had a sinister look on his face and was holding a long knife.

Upon seeing Xia Yan, the scarred man's eyes lit up, and he said, "I didn't expect there to be a newborn soul."

The young man beside him chuckled and said, "I'm leaving this newborn soul to me. I'm going to use it to test my blade."

The scarred man said, "Then you'd better not miss."

"no problem."

The young man chuckled, brandishing his katana, and walked step by step toward Xia Yan.

Xia Yan looked fearful upon seeing this scene. If he were strong and healthy, he might have thought of fighting the other party, but at this moment he had become an eleven or twelve-year-old boy, weak in the hands and feet. How could he fight against an enemy wielding a long sword?

Without a word, Xia Yan turned and ran away. The young man didn't mind Xia Yan's escape; instead, he watched him with great interest, like a hunter watching its prey.

Xia Yan sprinted at full speed. A small path appeared in front of him, and Xia Yan turned into it. After passing through the path, Xia Yan continued running, running past more than a dozen houses, and heading into the distance.

He turned the corner, walked a short distance, turned right, and found himself on a new street, standing at the entrance.

Xia Yan dared not stop. After advancing a distance, he turned around and saw a figure behind him, the same young man from before.

He brandished his long sword and charged towards Xia Yan. Xia Yan ran for his life, but the distance between them was closing.

Xia Yan continued to run, but after running at full speed for several hundred meters, he was panting heavily and his speed began to slow down.

So Xia Yan ran another twenty or thirty meters, and the young man behind him caught up and kicked Xia Yan to the ground.

Then he walked over and said arrogantly, "Where do you think you can run to?"

Xia Yan rolled over, looking at the man who was approaching, and asked cautiously, "I don't think I've done anything to provoke you, have I? Why are you picking on me?"

Upon hearing this, the young man laughed and said, "In Chenyi District, why do you need a reason to kill someone?"

After saying this, the young man walked towards Xia Yan. Xia Yan tried to straighten up and run away, but he kicked him to the ground.

Xia Yan fell heavily to the ground, and the other person walked up to Xia Yan, stepped on his chest, and raised the knife in his hand.

The young man's eyes revealed fanaticism; killing was not a burden for him, but rather something that excited him.

Xia Yan struggled incessantly, but the other person's foot was firmly planted on him, and with his small body, how could he possibly break free?

As the long sword was swung down, a cold light appeared in the sky and slashed towards Xia Yan.

Xia Yan closed his eyes resignedly, but the expected attack did not come.

With a loud bang, the feet that were stepping on him left his body, and two figures stood in front of Xia Yan, blocking his way.

The two figures were not tall, about a third shorter than their opponent. The one in the lead was a strong young man with long red hair, holding a wooden sword and staring intently at his opponent.

Besides them, there was a short-haired girl staring at the young man without backing down.

Upon seeing them, the young man's expression turned somewhat unpleasant. He snorted coldly and said, "These are people from our Chenyi District. You've come here, so get out of the way."

The red-haired youth at the head of the group said coldly, "I don't care which district he's from. Once he comes to our Xu Diao District, you have no right to kill him."

At this moment, a short-haired girl standing next to the red-haired youth said coldly, "Get out of here now."

The young man looked at the red-haired boy with some apprehension in his eyes, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.

After he left, the red-haired boy breathed a sigh of relief. The short-haired girl walked up to Xia Yan, looked at him with pure eyes, and asked, "Little brother, are you alright?"

"I am fine."

Xia Yan smiled slightly at the short-haired girl, slowly stood up, looked at them and said, "Thank you both for saving me."

"Thank you both for saving me? Your words are strange."

The red-haired boy laughed, patted Xia Yan on the shoulder, and said, "We're not here to save you, we just don't want the people from Chenyi District to come here and do evil."

Chenyi District?

Xia Yan remembered that they had mentioned this was the Xu Diao District, so he asked curiously, "What exactly is this place?"

Upon hearing this, the red-haired boy's smile faded, and he looked at Xia Yan, asking, "So you are a newly born soul."

"A newly born soul?"

Xia Yan's eyes widened as he asked, "Are you saying I'm already dead?"

The red-haired boy nodded and said, "That's right, you are dead. This is the Rukongai in Soul Society. The place you were in before was the 79th district of the South Rukongai, Tatsumi Ward. This is the 78th district of the South Rukongai, Inugami Ward."

Soul Society?

Xia Yan frowned slightly upon hearing the term, an idea popping into his mind, yet he seemed somewhat incredulous.

Seeing Xia Yan freeze in place, the short-haired girl said to him, "Don't worry, now that you've come to Xudiao District, just stay here. Those people won't dare to come here."

The red-haired boy nodded, carrying his wooden sword, and said, "That's right. Although we are all orphans and this place is quite chaotic, we look out for each other, and no one will dare to mess with us."

Upon hearing this, Xia Yan said earnestly, "Thank you."

Although they weren't much older than him, Xia Yan was very grateful for their willingness to help him.

At this moment, the short-haired girl asked again, "By the way, I still don't know your name."

Xia Yan quickly replied, "My name is Xia Yan."

"Xia Yan?"

The short-haired girl read her name aloud, then suddenly said, "Hello, my name is Rukia."

"Rukia?"

Xia Yan's eyes widened. At that moment, the red-haired boy also said, "My name is Abarai Renji."

Renji Abarai?

Xia Yan was stunned when he heard the name: Renji Abarai, Rukia, Soul Society, Inugami Ward.

Isn't this something from the Bleach manga?

I've actually been transported to the world of Bleach?

Chapter Two: Spiritual Pressure

Xia Yan never expected that he would come to the world of the Grim Reapers and meet Rukia and Renji Abarai.

He was naturally familiar with Bleach, one of his favorite manga and one he looked forward to every week for a long time.

Although the result wasn't perfect, Xia Yan really liked every character in it, and was naturally familiar with Rukia and Renji Abarai.

Rukia is the female lead in Bleach, while Renji Abarai can be considered the second male lead.

Both of them are extremely important characters, but at present they are just wandering souls in the 78th district of South Rukongai, the Inugami district, and have not yet entered the Shinigami Academy to study. Rukia has not yet been discovered by Kuchiki Byakuya, the head of the Kuchiki family, and thus taken into the Kuchiki family.

Xia Yan stared blankly at the two people in front of him, still unable to accept the fact that he had transmigrated.

At this moment, Renji Abarai said, "Alright, stop standing there, come with us."

Renji Abarai and Rukia led Natsuhiko to a house. The house wasn't very big, and there wasn't much furniture inside; the floor was covered with straw.

After the three of them went inside, there wasn't much space left in the house.

Renji Abarai said with a smile, "This is where we live. You can stay here from now on."

Xia Yan said gratefully, "Thank you."

Although the soul inside my body is that of an adult, I am only an eleven-year-old in body. Living alone, I will only end up like today, being slaughtered.

Renji Abarai laughed and said, "No need for thanks. As long as we help each other in the future, no one will be able to bully us."

Upon hearing Renji Abarai's words, Natsuhiko understood why they had been able to survive in the 78th ward of South Rukongai: their unity.

In the original story, Rukia was abandoned by her sister, but she was still able to grow up in the Inugami Ward and eventually enter the Shinigami Academy, all thanks to the help of these people.

Moreover, they don't talk about such favors. When Rukia was discovered by Kuchiki Byakuya, Rukia hesitated, but Abarai Renji told her to enter the Kuchiki family without any worries.

This is the emotion between them, and it's why they got married after everything settled down.

After learning that he was a newly born soul, Renji Abarai and Rukia let him stay there and live with them.

After Xia Yan got to know them, he quickly became familiar with them. At this moment, Renji Abarai looked out the window, stood up and said, "Take the bucket, let's go fishing and fetch water."
