Chapter 499 Heading to the Frontier

Inside the Red Castle.

"Diana, my daughter."

A few days have passed since Arianne gave birth to Diana. Viserys, who has been in this world for so many years, has finally become a father and left behind his own bloodline. Naturally, he cannot hide his joy.

He reached out and gently pinched his daughter's little nose, then jokingly said...

"To welcome your arrival, your uncle set a huge fire in the west that could be seen throughout the entire western region."

Because of Arianne's childbirth, Viserys became the last person to see this message.

He had just learned that Oberyn had caused such a huge commotion.

Oberyn set a great fire that killed tens of thousands of people and wiped out the Lannister army. Diana was born a few days after her uncle set the fire.

Oberyn really did give Diana a special gift when they first met.

And this little guy has already caused such a stir since birth; won't he be able to stir up even more waves in the future...?

If she were even more beautiful, stunningly gorgeous, perhaps she could be called a femme fatale...

However, Viserys only thought about it for a moment, then chuckled and pinched the little guy's nose.

"A beautiful woman is a source of trouble" is not a compliment. How could he expect his daughter to become such a person in the future?

Queen Arianne, who had been resting on her bed for a few days, was still a little pale, but she couldn't help but smile when she saw her daughter sleeping peacefully.

Especially Diana's soft silver hair; babies are born with hair, though it's not very long, and a pair of clear, bright purple eyes.

She gazed at the world with curiosity, though some things were blurry due to the limitations of her vision.

But as a biological instinct, she understood that the two people in front of her were her parents, people who would never hurt her.

“Diana looks just like you, Viserys.”

Looking at her daughter and gazing at her face, Arianne couldn't help but speak, her tone tinged with a hint of bitterness.

Diana is Arianne's daughter, yet she doesn't possess many of her mother's characteristics. Perhaps it's because the power of Viserys' bloodline is too strong, resulting in a more resilient caste.

Aside from her facial features resembling her mother's, Diana's face was more like that of a Dornish with exotic features, deep-set eyes, and large eyes. Her hair, eye color, and other distinctive features were derived from her father.

"She learned more from me than what you see."

Viserys looked at his daughter, who was lying obediently on the bed without crying or making a fuss. He then gently pinched her soft cheeks, which looked as if they could be squeezed for moisture, and calmly spoke.

Viserys's pale purple eyes shimmered slightly.

He saw the seed of the 'black mist' inside Diana's body, which appeared to be something she had taken from her own body.

However, Viserys hesitated about whether to remove a 'seed' from his daughter's body. The benefits of the black mist were very obvious, but the drawbacks were not yet very clear.

"I'm sorry, my love."

"I did not give you a son."

Seeing Viserys deep in thought, Arianne, standing beside him, couldn't help but feel uneasy, and then spoke softly.

She really wanted to give birth to a prince for Viserys. Although princesses and princes had the right of succession in Dorne, as the eldest daughter of Prince Doran, Arianne knew very well that even in Dorne, a place that claimed to have fair inheritance rights, it would be difficult for a girl to inherit her father's business.

She knew very well that her father favored her younger brother Quentin Martell, and if Arianne had acted according to her old temperament, she would have definitely competed with Quentin.

But now she no longer finds Dorn's place appealing.

She wanted to bear a son for Viserys, so that her son would one day sit on the Iron Throne and become the king of the Seven Kingdoms.

"No, it's not your fault, Ariane."

Viserys heard his wife's words, raised his head slightly to look at her, then reached out and ran his hand through her hair, pulling her into his arms.

"I actually prefer girls to those annoying boys."

"Because I am a boy myself, I know how annoying a naughty boy can be when he is young, and he often gets into trouble that catches people off guard."

Viserys' comforting words amused Arianne, who couldn't help but burst out laughing.

She was actually quite worried that Viserys would dislike her because of this, since having a son was of great importance to the king.

"But...as far as I know, you weren't a naughty boy when you were little."

“I’ve known about our engagement since I was very young. My family often tells me about you and everyone says you are a rare genius.”

Arianne brought up the past, but Viserys just smiled and shook his head, without explaining the matter in detail, before speaking sincerely.

"I also want to thank you for giving me a little princess."

After Viserys finished speaking, the room fell silent. Arianne's eyes were slightly red, and then the silver-haired youth tightened his grip on his wife's arm.

"When Diana grows up a bit, I'll give her a dragon."

“Vaghar, Mirasis, or Syracuse, but I guess Diana would choose the ‘little lady’ one.”

...

Arianne gave birth to a princess, and Viserys, with his last remaining attachment to King's Landing gone, decided to deal with the Three-Eyed Raven before launching the Second Conquest.

He was at ease leaving Renis and Rhaegal behind in King's Landing, while his Kingsguard Mia stayed with the Queen and the little princess, eating and sleeping together to prevent any mishaps.

A few days later.

Viserys boarded Bellerion and flew north, traversing the Riverlands, the Neck, and the Gulf of Carin.

After several months of rest and recuperation, the Riverlands have regained their greenery, and the people in the villages and towns have resumed their production and lives in peace and contentment. The traces of war have vanished, and Viserys can't help but marvel at the incredible resilience of humankind.

As for the Neck Marsh, a forbidden area rarely visited by humans, the marshland people who lived there had all died in the war against the White Walkers and were almost extinct.

For some unknown reason, Holland Reed, the Great Leader of the Zedi, did not flee during the war, but instead chose to hang himself in the castle of Greywater Watch, while his two children disappeared without a trace.

Then came the Gulf of Carin, where, with no trace of humans, the nobles of the Seven Kingdoms south of the Neck, after their victory in the war against the White Walkers, quickly descended into civil war.

Everyone was busy fighting and no one thought about repairing this ancient causeway so that humans could once again cross the Neck by land. Therefore, this place is still in a state of desolation after the great explosion.

Call ~

The massive black dragon moved through the clouds, the wind howled in Viserys' ears, and snowflakes began to fall around him.

Chapter 500 Winterfell

"The North remains the same as before."

Viserys rode on the back of a dragon, feeling the snowflakes falling all around him. The biting wind kept penetrating his clothes, but he did not feel cold. His long silver-gold hair fluttered in the wind.

The Neck is the dividing line between North and South Westeros. Everything south of the Neck can be called the South, while everything north of the Neck is the North.

Most of the humans living on this continent live in the warm south, while the harsh climate in the north is unsuitable for crop cultivation and human habitation.

Although the North, including the Land of Everwinter, occupies more than half of Westeros, its population is not that dense, especially north of the Wall, in the Land of Everwinter, which is even further north than the Thern territory and is almost a no-man's land.

During his free time, Viserys browsed through some of the books in the Red Keep, books that had been collected during the Targaryen reign.

During the reign of the usurper, not only were no books included, but the collection also suffered severe damage due to war and lack of proper preservation.

Robert didn't care about these books at all, and certainly didn't consider them 'spiritual food'. To Robert, these books were too hard to even wipe his butt with.

Viserys felt a pang of sympathy for the situation, but he still managed to find some records about the Land of Everwinter in these books.

This is a conjecture mentioned in a book called "The King of Winterfell: The Genealogy and Legends of House Stark of Winterfell," written a long time ago by a maester named Child of the Citadel.

One of the legends mentions the Land of Everwinter, where Maester Child believed that the secret of the birth of the White Walkers was hidden at the end of the world, waiting for humanity to unravel it.

Viserys then rode Balerion northwards, finally landing in Winterfell as the moon rose and the sky darkened.

This is the capital of the North, the center of power, and it is said to have been built eight thousand years ago, yet it still stands.

Viserys descended from the sky riding a black dragon, immediately alarming the local 'natives'. The long-unseen legion of the dead roared towards the sky, only to be burned to ashes by a surge of dragonfire from Belerien.

wow-

Viserys jumped off the dragon's back and landed on the ground.

Winterfell was already riddled with holes even without Balerion's destruction.

The city walls bear large scorched marks, the result of a fire set by Bunyan before he jumped from the walls of Winterfell. The roofs of many houses have collapsed under the weight of the thick snow, leaving only ruins everywhere.

Perhaps in the more than eight thousand years that Winterfell has stood on the northern land, there has never been a moment like now, with no one living there or taking care of it for more than half a year.

The lords of Winterfell have now fled to King's Landing, and the entire North, except for a few expeditions from the Free Cities, is completely deserted, becoming a no-man's land. The breath of life has been wiped out, and not even wild grass grows; only thick snow buries this ancient castle.

As darkness fell, Viserys, with his sharp eyes and confirmation from the map that this was Winterfell, would not have been able to recognize it while riding on his dragon's back and soaring through the air.

"This is the famous Winterfell."

"I've always wanted to see the origins of so many wonderful stories here, but I never expected my first visit to be like this."

The changes in Winterfell were heartbreaking, and Viserys felt that his beautiful vision of Winterfell had been shattered.

This place is now just a ruined castle, and it's not very big. Bellerion feels a bit stifled here.

The silver-haired youth knelt on one knee. Although he had become king, he had not lost his survival skills. Viserys carried a flint with him, found a piece of discarded and rotten wood, and lit a torch. The firelight dispelled the darkness and illuminated the surrounding mess.

Most of the original inhabitants of Winterfell had just been burned to ashes, and he couldn't rule out the possibility that any other wights might still be alive.

The dead are still scattered across the North, but their numbers have dwindled considerably; there are only a few dozen in the entire city of Winterfell.

It appears that the main force of the undead army has returned to the Land of Everwinter with the Night King. In the past, there would probably have been hundreds or even thousands of wights here.

Viserys, holding a torch high to dispel the surrounding darkness, walked towards a towering tower, his feet treading on the thick snow and the ashes of ghouls that had just been burned to ash.

“We’ll be resting here for the night, Bellerion.”

Viserys spoke, his voice echoing, while Balerion lay down not far away in a clearing in Winterfell large enough to lay his body, quietly watching Viserys walk forward, and responded in a low voice.

It was already exhausted after a day of flying. They started from King's Landing, stopped briefly at the Twins last night to rest, and then set off again this morning, flying straight to Winterfell.

"Ho-"

Then Bellerion let out another low growl, which resounded like muffled thunder in the silent night sky where you could hear a pin drop.

Bellerion warned Viserys to be careful, but Viserys simply waved his hand.

Then the silver-haired youth, holding a torch, pushed open the tower's doors. Snowflakes fell from above, and the torchlight dispelled the darkness within, allowing Viserys to see everything clearly.
