Although not very old, Viserys has been through many battles due to fate, having witnessed and participated in numerous wars. It's hard to say whether this is a blessing or a curse.

Less than half a day had passed.

Andalus's army then conquered this town of the Rhoynar.

Chapter 106 Assassination

"Around a thousand years ago, the ancient city-state of Rhoyna and the Valyrian Freehold went to war, which lasted about two hundred and fifty years from the first conflict to the complete defeat."

Maester Gunther, holding a book, spoke to Viserys as they walked.

In fact, maesters are servants who serve Westeros. Young maesters were sent by the Citadel because of Dragonstone, and if Dragonstone changes hands, they will serve the next lord.

However, unexpected things can happen.

It is not uncommon in history for maesters to leave their fiefdoms with nobles; in fact, there are many, such as the maesters of Storm's End who followed Stannis.

This was actually decided by the scholars themselves. They were nominally scholars of the Citadel, but in reality they had become vassals of the nobles. The idea that scholars were not involved in politics was sometimes just an ideal state.

East of the Upper Loen River, in a small town called Vallo, the Andalusian army had just conquered the town.

"This reached its peak during the Second Spice War, when Prince Galin of the Rhoynar led 250,000 Rhoynar in a fierce resistance, at one point repelling the Valyrian invaders. Two dragons perished, and a dragon king fled in panic."

"However, even more powerful dragons flew in from the Freedom Fortress. They were different from the three dragons that had been defeated before; they..."

The scholar paused slightly at this point, looked at the records in the book, remained silent for a moment, and then continued.

"They were several times larger than the previous dragons, and there were three hundred of them. Prince Galin's army of 250,000 Loyna people was wiped out."

"Prince Galin was imprisoned in a golden cage, hanging from the city wall, and watched his city-state crumble and his people be enslaved."

"But what follows are just legends, Your Majesty. You may or may not listen to these stories."

The scholar glanced at the records behind him and then spoke. The two walked and talked, and Viserys nodded slightly.

The scholar then continued.

"Legend has it that before his death, Prince Galin cursed the Valyrians with his blood and called upon the Mother River to avenge her people. That night, the Lorne River suddenly swelled with unprecedented power, and an evil fog forever shrouded Chajoun. Countless Valyrian invaders who could not find peace received Galin's curse... that is, greyscale, and died there."

"And the story says that Prince Galin eventually climbed out of the underwater tomb and ruled this land of sorrow forever as the Shroud King."

This period of history is very long, covering the rise and fall of the Rhoynar city-state a thousand years ago. Viserys knew the rest of the story, and Oberyn knew it as well.

His ancestors had the blood of the ancient Rhoynar, whose legendary warrior Nymeria led the ancient Rhoynar across the Narrow Sea to Dorne and married Morse Martell, an ancestor of Oberyn.

Although the ancient city-state has long since vanished, many Løynar villages and towns still live along the banks of the Løne River, which is the mother river of the Løynar people.

Viserys's expedition was aimed at bringing these villages and towns under his control. After a series of conquests, the Rhoynar near the source of the Mother River, the Upper Rhoyne, have organized a resistance and were decisively defeated by Viserys's army.

“Your Majesty, as the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, you should never rely on one race.”

"You should have made this decision a long time ago..."

The scholar spoke up, saying that he actually agreed with Viserys's idea: not to be obsessed with the Iron Throne and fall into the curse, but to focus on developing themselves on the continent of Essos, which has great potential.

If Viserys insists on participating in the Iron Islands rebellion, he may not only gain nothing, but also suffer heavy losses and slow down his own development.

"Well, that makes sense."

Viserys nodded.

The two men walked on the muddy ground. The traces of last night's battle had not been completely cleared away. In the town, there were still dilapidated and charred houses, and bloodstains on the walls.

The two then arrived at the gate of a fairly intact courtyard, which was Viserys's temporary residence.

The Andals on the Andas Plain and the Loyna on both sides of the Upper Loon River are in similar situations; both races are no longer as glorious as they once were.

This large triangular region, sandwiched between the city-states of Norfos, Braavos, and Pentos, is actually a power vacuum.

The free trade city-state system meant that it did not have the same strong territorial ambitions as the imperial system. Viserys seized this opportunity to gradually develop itself in this region where there was little power to establish itself.

"So... what should we do next?"

Viserys and the maester stopped outside the courtyard gate and began to talk.

The crowd around them consisted mostly of captured prisoners. One of the captured Rhoynar slaves seemed to have overheard Viserys and the maester's conversation. He raised his head slightly, his eyes flickering, though it was unclear whether he understood the Common Tongue of Westeros.

Although the Common Language was brought to Westeros by the Andals and Rhoynar, it has changed over time and now sounds like two different languages.

"Go to hell!"

Then, as the slave passed by Viserys, he suddenly lunged at him, letting out a hoarse roar, and tried to strangle Viserys with the chains binding his hands.

"Ok?"

"Oh no—"

However, his sudden movement was caught by the little king out of the corner of his eye, and he quickly dodged away.

Snapped--

Viserys reacted quickly, dodging the slave's attack while simultaneously gripping the slave's wrist tightly with one hand.

With his other hand, he drew a dagger from the waist of a guard beside him and placed it directly against the neck of the Royna slave. With a light slash, he cut the man's throat.

puff--

Blood splattered out, and the slave of the Royna people, his face filled with disbelief, clutched his throat with his chained hands before collapsing to the ground.

He originally intended to kidnap Viserys and escape, but he didn't expect the other party to react so quickly.

"His Majesty!"

The guards around Viserys hadn't even had time to react before their faces showed shock and anger when the slave was already dead.

The other passing Rhoyna slaves knelt down in terror. They were not accomplices of this man, and they were afraid that the young king would implicate them.

The maester witnessed the whole scene, watching Viserys take a deep breath and then take a handkerchief from a guard to wipe the blood off his hands.

"Is Your Majesty alright?"

"I am fine."

Viserys shook his head slightly, then glanced at the corpse lying on the ground, a shadow falling over his eyes.

He had experienced far too many assassination attempts of this magnitude, and had even begun to become numb to them.

Chapter 107 Half a Year

"So... does Your Majesty have an answer to the question just now?"

The maester remained silent for a moment, watching as the bodies of the prisoners who had attacked Viserys were dragged away by the guards, before raising his head.

Viserys was speechless for a moment, then nodded, understanding the maester's meaning.

The steps of conquest wars are actually quite similar: first, force is used, followed by a carrot-and-stick policy.

The area radiating outwards from Andalus, encompassing both banks of the Upper Lorne River, is actually the territory that Viserys is currently expanding.

This place has flat and fertile land, suitable for growing crops, but unfortunately it has no mineral resources, so it can only rely on the most primitive agricultural economy.

Moreover, this area is a melting pot of ethnicities, including Andals, Loyna, and Dothraki who occasionally come here to graze their livestock, engaging in acts of burning, killing, and looting.

For these and other reasons, the three free trade city-states surrounding this place did not take action against it.

Because the potential profits for merchants and governors are limited, and it could very well arouse the suspicion of other free trading city-states.

"I understand."

...

Autumn passed and winter came, and then spring quietly arrived once again.

Year 290 of the Aegonian calendar.

Since the rebellion broke out in the Iron Islands across the Narrow Sea, Baron Greyjoy was crowned king. He first burned Lannisport, and then suffered a setback at Seafront, losing his heir Rodrik.

Immediately afterwards, the Iron Throne faction amassed a large army, and the newly built royal fleet, which had been heavily invested in, also joined the war.

In the Battle of Fairy Isle, Stannis Baratheon's royal fleet clashed head-on with the Iron Fleet, which had once been invincible on the Sunset Sea.

A fierce naval battle ensued, and Stannis ultimately defeated the renowned Iron Fleet by setting an ambush, giving Baron Greyjoy's third brother, Victarion, his first taste of defeat.

Baron's younger brother, Ellen Greyjoy, also fell into the sea during this naval battle and was subsequently captured and imprisoned in Casterly Rock until the end of this rebellion.

With the Iron Fleet defeated, the situation for the Iron Islands was already extremely precarious.

Stannis, then First Lord of the Sea, conquered Great Wake in the name of his brother, while Ser Barristan Selmy, captain of the Kingsguard, led the army to conquer Old Wake.

In the final battle.

King Robert and Lord Eddard Stark personally commanded the battle, and Portbury Castle and Kingsport on Pyke Island have been destroyed by the war.

The catapults bombarded Pike City relentlessly, eventually destroying the main watchtower and part of the southern wall. Baron's second son, Maren Greyjoy, also died in battle when the city fell.

Thoros, the red-robed monk who worshipped the Lord of Light, rekindled the sword of fire and was the first to storm into the city, followed closely by Jorah Mormont.

The royal army then captured Pyke, and King Balon Greyjoy, who was crowned king, removed his crown again after less than a year and knelt in submission to King Robert.

His only son, Theon Greyjoy, who is only nine years old, was also taken in as a hostage by Lord Eddard Stark.

The Iron Islands rebellion has finally come to an end.

While the fighting raged on Westeros, Andalus, far away on the continent of Essos, was also not idle.

This was the most valuable opportunity for development. Taking advantage of the Iron Throne's inattention to the situation here, they decisively sent troops to seize the opportunity and swept through the Rhoynar settlements on both sides of the Upper Rhoynar River.

Viserys personally led his army into battle, and when his forces reached as far east as Norfolk, they came to the banks of the Norn River, even alarming the Norfolk monks.

The bearded monks in the temple seemed to have never expected the Andalusians to suddenly appear there. They were all surprised and uncertain, and held axes in hand as they confronted the Andalusian army for several days. Afterward, both sides withdrew and went their separate ways, leaving each other alone.

Andalus, when expanding westward, went as far as the Velvet Hills region along the Upper Loon River.

When they reached the Valyrian route that led from Pentos to Norfos and then to Cohor, the caravans along the way were terrified, thinking they were about to encounter something terrible. However, Andalus's army did not lay a finger on them and then withdrew on its own initiative.

"His Majesty."

"This was once the city of the Loyna people, a beautiful place, a metropolis made up of green spaces and flowers, canals and fountains."

Viserys was still riding his white warhorse.

Following him on horseback was a Loyna guide named Evan, who had olive skin and messy black hair.

He was one of the first Loyna to surrender and witnessed the assassination attempt six months earlier. At that time, Evan thought he was going to die, but he never expected that the king would not punish everyone but would spare them.
