If he had actually assassinated Takaaki, Samura would have been infamous for eternity.

It's almost July now.

The weather is really starting to get hot.

Zuocun caught a fish.

Today I'm planning to celebrate Kanna's birthday, so naturally I need some good food.

Zuo Cun pushed open the door; the sun was about to set.

Kanna bought a loom and is now making clothes at home.

Although the black and white haori that Zuo Cun was wearing was gorgeous, it didn't quite suit Zuo Cun's temperament; it felt too refined.

Kanna wanted to make a dress that would truly suit Samura.

After the two finished dinner, Zuo Cun returned to his room. His and Ryoma's plan still needed more refinement, and it was necessary to review the scroll as many times as possible.

Meanwhile, Kanna, in her room, took out an envelope that she had kept close to her body for several years without ever opening it.

Chapter 379 Father and Daughter

Samurai was writing something at his desk when he suddenly noticed that his door had been opened.

That's... the sound of a bullet being chambered.

Zuocun realized something.

"You killed my father," Kanna said through gritted teeth.

She looked at the familiar figure from behind, but felt no warmth whatsoever; only anger.

Tears dripped from Kanna's eyes onto her arm and onto the ground.

Zuocun put the pen aside and quietly turned around.

He stared at the dark muzzle of the gun.

"Yes."

"Why did you do this—?" Kanna couldn't control her emotions; her whole body trembled with anger and sorrow.

Violent trembling.

"I simply gave him a choice," Zuocun said with a smile, slowly stating the facts.

Kanna closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.

"So, after killing my father, you brazenly adopted me?"

She questioned, questioned loudly, collapsing and becoming hysterical.

"Why did you adopt me? To see me make a fool of myself? To play a fake family game? Or are you happy to watch the daughter of someone who died because of you grow up?"

Kanna's fingers were trembling.

She wanted to pull the trigger.

“I’m sorry, Kanna.” Samura’s eyes dimmed slightly. “Your father did die because of me. It might not be wrong to say that I killed him with my own hands.”

“But… Kanna, there’s one thing I’m sure of.”

Zuocun placed his hands on his knees and smiled.

"I'm really happy to watch you grow up."

Kanna was stunned.

"If you want to kill me, I won't move." Zuo Cun didn't move, but his eyes showed some disappointment.

"Why?" Kanna cried out violently.

"Why!!!!!!"

bang——

Zuocun closed his eyes.

Kanna threw the gun aside and lay down on the ground.

The shot was fired at the ceiling.

"Why--"

Why are you doing this to me—

She hid her face and curled up into a ball.

"Why can't I do it—"

Kanna cried very, very loudly.

Zuocun slowly opened his eyes.

He walked to Kanna's side and gently hugged her.

"Don't cry."

Zuo Cun also shed two lines of tears.

"I just don't want... to leave you alone."

"Because I'm all alone... I'm really scared."

“I know you hate me, Kanna, but I won’t make any excuses for myself.”

Zuocun gently patted Kanna's back.

"I just feel... I'm really happy to have you as my daughter in my life."

Souna hugged Samura fiercely.

She was still crying, crying violently.

Zuocun closed his eyes in pain, gently patting Kanna's head and back.

"Don't cry."

"Don't cry."

He didn't know how to comfort Kanna.

He knew that his sins could not be erased.

He just wanted his daughter to stop crying.

"Why, Mr. Samura—"

Kanna hugged Samura, her tears already soaking Samura's chest.

"Why is this happening—ahhh—"

Kanna didn't even know what she was asking.

She didn't know what answer she wanted.

She felt like she was going crazy.

Zuo Cun murmured, "Why...?"

"Perhaps it's just because..."

"You're my daughter, aren't you...?"

Finally, exhausted from crying, Kanna fell into a deep sleep in Samura's arms.

Samura escorted Kanna back to her room and covered her with a blanket.

After placing the gun on the table in Kanna's room, Samura quietly walked out.

He sat atop a tree, gazing at the moon, lost in thought.

I only felt two lines of tears streaming down my face.

the next day.

Kanna touched her head and woke up.

She looked downcast, and it was unclear what she was thinking.

Zuo Cun's door was not closed, and it could be seen from the outside that Zuo Cun was not inside the house.

“Mr. Samura…” Kanna murmured to herself, then slumped weakly to the ground.

Mr. Samura... he's not not coming back, is he...?

Upon opening the door, Kanna saw Sōmura lying unconscious on the ground next to a tree.

Scattered around Zuocun were wine vessels.

"Mr. Samura!" Kanna rushed over.

She wanted to carry Zuo Cun into the house, but for some reason, Zuo Cun felt terribly heavy.

Unable to get Samura inside, Kanna had no choice but to let him lean against a tree, so that he wasn't completely lying on the ground.

Zuocun was fast asleep, or rather, extremely drunk.

"Mr. Samura... is not usually drunk."

Kanna said to herself.

Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at Zuo Cun's face.

She sat upright on the ground, facing Zuocun.

“Mr. Samura, you are really good to me, really good.”
