Scott stared at the huge gray wolf with great interest.
“Sawana once asked me to do an arithmetic divination for you. The final result of that divination was [3]. This number tells me your state at the time: your body was asleep, your consciousness was in a state between dreaming and waking, but your mind was very active.”
Upon hearing Scott's words, the gray wolf looked quite surprised.
“It seems that your consciousness has been awakened at some point,” Scott added.
Aaron dismissively said, "That's obvious."
Scott slowly smiled. "What I'm curious about is, since your mind is undamaged and your consciousness has been restored, why can you only meet me in this way?"
He stared into the gray wolf's eyes and asked, "Is there something wrong with your body?"
"This isn't about me!" Aaron's voice was urgent. "Sawana is in danger!"
Scott, however, was not as anxious as he was. Instead, he asked calmly, "The so-called 'triple death' trial refers to three tests targeting the body, mind, and consciousness respectively? Is your current condition also caused to pass the trial?"
Gray Wolf nodded. "You guessed right. My trial was successful, but you could also say it was a failure."
Scott understood what he meant, so he asked directly, "How much longer will it take you to get back to normal?"
“I don’t know.” The gray wolf shook his head gently. “But I can feel that it will take me some time to return to my own body.”
"How long exactly?" Scott asked.
Aaron replied, "It will take at least three more years."
Scott asked, "In your family, is the so-called priestly trial something that everyone has to participate in?"
The gray wolf shook its head.
Scott then asked, "Since you can already be considered to have succeeded, why does Savannah still need to participate in the trial?"
Aaron's voice was somewhat angry, "They are unwilling to wait another 3 years; they need a qualified priest to be born as soon as possible."
Scott still didn't quite understand his motives. "If you want to stop Savannah from participating in the trial, it's too late now. Do you think I can help her pass the trial?"
Aaron explained, "It's not what you think. Savannah's trial hasn't really started yet, and it's not too late to stop it."
Scott shook his head. "This is a matter within your family and a matter for you druids. Besides, you said yourself that they need a qualified priest to be born as soon as possible. I'm afraid I can't help you with that."
“You can,” Aaron said. “You can take Savannah away.”
Scott's calm expression finally changed. "Take him away? I already said..."
“I know!” Aaron said quickly. “I already know you’re not Savannah’s boyfriend yet, but you can be her boyfriend.”
"..."
Scott stared speechlessly at the gray wolf.
How did we end up back here again?
Scott remained silent, while Aaron continued, "If Savannah gets engaged, she can shed her druid identity. You can take her away from all of this."
Scott asked in surprise, "This is a serious matter. You mean 'they' would let her go so easily?"
“Of course, this requires passing some tests. Once you pass the tests, you can take Savannah away, and they can't break the rules that were set long ago.” Aaron looked at Scott. “You've passed most of the tests; only the last one remains!”
"..."
At that moment, Scott regretted coming all this way. He should have gone back immediately after being brought here by the door key.
“This is all wishful thinking on your part,” he said to Aaron, frowning.
Since the "they" he mentioned were unwilling to wait three years for a 12-year-old girl to pass the trial, why would they care about the rule that engagement allows one to leave?
Moreover, why should he meddle in other people's family affairs?
Aaron seemed to ignore Scott's words, and his tone became somewhat anxious, "Go ahead, as long as you successfully enter the temple, you will have passed the test completely, and then you can take Savannah away."
“Sorry, I can’t help you,” Scott declined.
"Why? You don't want to?" Aaron asked, somewhat angrily. "Isn't my sister good enough for you? She's a genius!"
Scott's brow furrowed even deeper.
“Of course, there are many people in the world who are worthy of me,” he said in a cryptic tone.
“I’m sorry.” Gray Wolf stared intently at Scott. “It’s too late. Although it was a misunderstanding, since I’ve already chosen you…”
The gray wolf crouched motionless within the Stonehenge area, but its body suddenly transformed from a real wolf into a wolf shape formed from intertwined tree roots.
Two tree roots, each as thick as an arm, shot out rapidly from its shoulders and wrapped around Scott's left and right sides.
"Armor protects you!"
Scott raised his wand slightly, and a transparent magical barrier appeared in front of him.
boom!
Two tree roots lashed against the magic barrier, producing a violent collision sound.
Scott took the opportunity to quickly retreat a short distance.
Although he had been talking to Aaron, he had not let his guard down and was even ready to make a move at any moment.
Just as he said at the beginning, the older brother of a fellow student was a stranger to him, and he couldn't trust strangers.
The two tree roots quickly retracted, and in the blink of an eye, the wolf-shaped tree roots transformed back into a real gray wolf.
"You really don't want to?" Aaron asked Scott again.
“Of course not.” Scott smiled. “These things have nothing to do with me, do they? Besides…”
He stared at the huge gray wolf. "There's no way to verify whether what you said is true or false. There are many loopholes in your statements. Why would I listen to you and walk into your territory without any precautions?"
Wouldn't we get ripped off if we went in?
"It seems I underestimated your caution." Gray Wolf looked somewhat annoyed.
Scott smiled without saying a word.
“But you are the most suitable candidate.” The gray wolf grinned, revealing his sharp, white teeth. “I will not let you leave. Now, even if you have the key, you cannot leave.”
As soon as he finished speaking, all the megaliths in Stonehenge began to hum, and an incredibly powerful surge of magical energy swept through the vast surrounding space.
At that moment, both the giant oak tree whose shade was enough to cover Stonehenge and the other oak trees in the dense forest behind Scott began to move.
The branches, reaching for the sky, stretched out their claws and claws, a sight resembling a natural disaster.
Scott stood there, giving the gray wolf a mocking smile. "Although you've made up a bunch of reasons, your real purpose probably isn't to save your sister, is it?"
"Let's go, Scott!" Rimbaud shouted at him from Scott's shoulder.
Scott raised his left hand so that Rimbaud could touch the silver snake necklace on his hand, and decisively activated the door key.
“You can’t leave.” Aaron watched his movements but didn’t stop him.
But he was soon dumbfounded.
“If it were an ordinary door key, it certainly wouldn’t be able to break through space amidst such storm-like magical fluctuations,” Scott laughed again.
"How could this be!" Aaron shouted, "Your door key..."
"Stop! Aaron! Don't hurt him..."
As Scott left, he heard Savannah's voice coming from the so-called temple and saw a gray wolf cub rush out of the temple at high speed.
Immediately afterwards, he felt his navel being hooked, and the scene before his eyes turned into a dizzying illusion.
Not long after, Scott detached himself from space travel and landed on the ground in the woods of Raven Territory.
"That was close!" Rimbaud exclaimed, circling around Scott. "That was incredibly dangerous!"
“It is indeed somewhat dangerous,” Scott said with a smile.
"You're still laughing? We almost didn't make it back! You should have listened to me sooner!" Rimbaud shouted.
“Okay,” Scott nodded. “I’ll definitely listen to you next time.”
“That’s more like it!” Rimbaud said, landing back on Scott’s shoulder.
"Do you know what that guy is trying to do?" it asked curiously.
Scott shook his head. "I have no idea what he's up to, but I know he has ill intentions towards me."
He thought of that dense oak forest, those extraordinary and magical oak trees.
Druids, huh? Looks like this group is quite cunning.
"You'd better not accept gifts from strangers anymore!" Rimbaud said, still shaken. "People these days are just too wicked! Letters can be deceiving! Gifts can be deceiving too!"
Scott nodded in agreement. "Yeah, they're absolutely awful."
Although he was unaware of it, Rimbaud suddenly fell silent.
Its eyes were fixed on him, clearly remembering the letter sent to Carlo.
“Let’s go,” Scott stretched. “We’re going back to Hastings.”
When they arrived back in Hastings, it was already evening.
"I wish I could have learned Apparition earlier."
Scott, finally back home, felt physically and mentally exhausted.
He glanced at the unopened gifts piled up in the room and had already lost interest in them.
Chapter 333 The Christmas Holiday Ends
The next morning, Scott received a letter from Savannah.
After repeatedly checking the letter and finding no hidden clues, Scott used Transfiguration to conjure a monkey that was far away from him to open the envelope.
After confirming that there was no danger in the letter, Scott took it from the monkey and began to read it.
Scott, are you okay?
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
Half of the parchment covered in messy handwriting contained the word "sorry".
Scott ignored the pointless apologies and looked directly at Savannah's explanation.
I'm sorry, I've kept a lot from you.
