He considered himself a man with neither power nor wealth, while Lady Zabini was a haughty, self-proclaimed noble pure-blood witch.

They should never have crossed paths.

Because he didn't think he had anything that the "Black Widow" would want.

"I was even smug about it at one time."

Mr. Grevis's self-analysis.

"after all……"

At this point, he probably realized that the person he was talking to, Scott, was his son's friend, so he stopped talking.

“I understand,” Scott said.

He's a man too, how could he not understand that mentality?

"But later..."

Mr. Grevis chuckled self-deprecatingly and continued his story.

Later, a colleague from the Ministry of Magic recruited him to join Medea's All-Witchcraft Society.

"That must have been his unauthorized action. He was drunk at the time, but that's why I started to have doubts about some things."

He subdued his colleague by surprise, forced him to drink the Truth Potion, and then used a forgetting spell to erase the colleague's memory of that period.

“From him, I learned that Zabini was also a member of the All Witchcraft Society.”

This made Mr. Grevis extremely wary of Mrs. Zabini.

"But in the end, I still made the wrong choice..."

He chose to engage with Mrs. Zabini in an attempt to learn more about the truth.

“Since then, many people have misunderstood my relationship with Zabini, including Milton’s mother.”

But Mr. Grevis was already in a bind; he was clearly unwilling to give up until he figured out why Mrs. Zabini had approached him.

Ultimately, through a calculated attack on an unsuspecting individual, he learned a terrifying truth—

Lady Zabini approached him at Medea Slytherin's behest.

It was all for the sake of obtaining a magical artifact that his father, old Mr. Grevis, had hidden.

Mr. Grevis began to feel afraid and apprehensive.

He believed he was powerless to stop Medea from doing what she wanted.

If he were to back down now, not to mention Medea, wouldn't Madame Zabini and the other members of the All Witchcraft Society retaliate against him?

Or he might retaliate against his wife and children.

He dared not gamble.

"Of course, this is only part of the reason why I ultimately chose to marry Zabini."

Mr. Grevis laughed self-deprecatingly again.

"Another reason is that I crave power."

Scott looked at him with some surprise.

Mr. Grevis replied, “I know your capabilities, Scott. There’s not much point in lying to you to save face.”

Scott simply said, "Your choice is indeed somewhat unwise."

Mr. Grevis nodded in agreement.

“I viewed that marriage as a transaction, a delusion of dancing on a knife’s edge, trying to gain the power I craved while protecting my family.”

"As it turns out, I overestimated myself."

"The damage all of this has done to Milton and his mother is something I can never make up for."

Instead of commenting on his past choices, Scott brought up his current predicament.

"Since you have Milton's mother with you all this time, it means that your plans have been exactly what they expected."

“Yes, Zabini has always known.”

Mr. Grevis sounded somewhat agitated.

“She always knew that Milton’s mother had not really left.”

“She’s laughing at me, watching us run around like stray dogs XZ.”

Scott frowned. "Why is that?"

"Because Lady Slytherin was defeated by Voldemort."

Mr. Grevis managed to calm down.

"They didn't want to go too far while Lady Slytherin was asleep."

"Without Lady Slytherin, they cannot resist the Ministry of Magic, and they do not want to attract Dumbledore's attention."

"We are still safe and sound because of their negligence."

"As long as we stay in Britain, no one will bother us."

Scott asked, "That time in Vienna?"

Mr. Grevis told him that he had tried to secretly send Milton's mother away that time, but ended up returning to England under the "protection" of several All-Witchcraft wizards.

"Back then, they didn't dare go too far, until I lost the ministerial election..."

Scott understood.

After losing the election, Mr. Grevis lost his political leverage and became less important.

He said softly, "Now that Medea has awakened, it's time for them to take action."

"you're right."

Mr. Grevis looked dejected.

Do you know what magical item Medea wants?

Scott asked calmly.

"And...why did they use such a roundabout method?"

Given Medea's strength, wouldn't it have been better to have quietly stormed in and snatched that magical item directly from old Mr. Grevis?

Why make things so complicated?

"I don't know exactly what that item is, but it's said to be able to break many spells. If it accumulates power long enough, it might be able to break any spell."

Mr. Grevis said somewhat hesitantly.

Break any magic?

Scott's intuition reminded him of the passage to Avalon.

Mr. Grevis continued, "As for why they didn't just steal it, it's because my father supposedly made many arrangements for that magical item, and he could make it destroy itself in an instant."

"I heard?" Scott asked, puzzled.

Mr. Grevis looked somewhat embarrassed.

"This information was gathered by me."

“And my father never told us anything about that magical item.”

"But almost every emerging wizarding family and pure-blood family has heard rumors about that magical item."

Scott asked in surprise, "So much has happened, and you haven't told your father at all?"

Mr. Grevis said, "My father knew everything that happened in the Grevis family, but he never explained anything to us."

Scott didn't quite understand.

As the patriarch, it's possible that Mr. Grevis is autocratic, but it's rather strange that he hasn't said anything at this point.

"This is normal."

Mr. Grevis was not surprised.

"That's just my father's personality."

But Scott always felt something was amiss.

He sorted out his thoughts.

"Previously, Madam Zabini may have wanted to find out about the arrangements your father made regarding that magical artifact, but now..."

"Even we don't know, it's impossible for her to find out anything."

Mr. Grevis affirmed.

"If Lady Slytherin can't wait, they'll eventually have to find another way."

Scott nodded. "If we catch them off guard, a single Imperius Curse can solve all the problems."

“My father was not so easily infected; he was extremely cautious his whole life.”

Mr. Grevis seemed to have a lot of confidence in Mr. Grevis the Elder.

But if the difference in strength is too great...

Scott conveyed this meaning with his eyes.

“You’re right, Scott.”

Mr. Grevis finally got to the point.

"This is what I really want to tell you."

Scott listened attentively.

Mr. Grevis said, “The UMNO appears calm, and no one is making any moves, but you should be well aware that they have private channels of communication.”

"You mean a local area network built within a FiloNet?"

Scott was quite surprised.

"Because Dumbledore knew about this, I assumed that after Ms. Burns came to power, she had already taken appropriate measures."
