Chapter 1, Section 001: The Experienced Driver and the Novice Girl

On the snow-covered road, pedestrians hurried to and fro.

Even in the bitter cold, many people still wore faint smiles on their faces.

The New Year's bells are about to ring, and the citizens of the State Federation are already quite impatient.

A middle-aged man wrapped in a coat rubbed his hands together, thinking to himself that he could buy a few more pieces of furniture for his home this year.

The piercing horn suddenly blared, startling the man.

He hurriedly turned around and saw a black sedan without license plates speeding past.

With a quick glance, he saw a man and a woman inside the car.

They were dressed in black, wearing sunglasses, and their expressions were solemn, showing no joy at the approaching New Year.

The middle-aged man opened his mouth, as if he had thought of something.

"The polluter..."

He muttered something to himself, and the smile vanished from his face.

"I hope nothing bad happens during the Lunar New Year."

..........................................................

"Senior, are there any precautions we should take for this operation?"

As they drew closer to their destination, the woman in the car, who had initially maintained a cold and aloof expression, finally spoke.

"Have you forgotten what I said before you drove off?"

"If things get worse, call for backup immediately."

"anything else?"

“If the target’s condition becomes unfavorable, we have the right to kill them on the spot.”

As she spoke, she unconsciously clenched her fist.

"besides?"

"what?"

After a pause, the woman hesitated and said, "If the situation gets out of control, our own safety comes first. Stay away from the target and wait for professionals to come to the rescue."

"That's right."

Hearing her partner and senior say this, the woman fell silent, but she didn't seem very at ease.

"Aya, this is your first mission, it's normal to be a little nervous."

The woman stopped talking, but the man driving spoke up instead.

"To be honest, no one knows how dangerous the target is unless they go to the scene in person. But I'm not coming with you, so I won't let a newcomer like you take on such a heavy responsibility."

"With an experienced driver like me here, just follow my instructions."

The man's slightly teasing remark comforted Aya somewhat. She calmed herself down and forced a smile: "Then, I'll leave everything to you, senior."

Hearing what Aya said, the man secretly shook his head.

'He's a complete newbie with absolutely no experience. I don't know what the higher-ups are thinking, always assigning people who drag us down.'

He thought this to himself, but his face remained expressionless.

"Don't worry, I studied the materials carefully before carrying out the mission. Based on my many years of experience, this mission is not very dangerous."

"Think about it, she's just a six or seven-year-old girl, how could she possibly eat us?"

"But she's a 'polluter'!"

Aya's tone was a bit harsh, which immediately displeased the man.

"Don't talk nonsense, she might not even be a polluter!"

Sensing the impatience in her partner's words, Aya fell completely silent.

The black sedan sped along, soon leaving the city center and arriving at a somewhat desolate area.

Looking into the distance, Aya saw a group of people waiting in front of the orphanage and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

'At least someone's there to greet me; it seems things aren't too bad.'

Her biggest fear was that by the time the two arrived, the orphanage would have been completely slaughtered.

At that time, I'll have to risk my life alongside my seniors.

What? Safety first, waiting for rescue?

Aya was well aware of the dangers of her line of work, so she just listened to these polite words and didn't take them seriously.

With a slight sense of relief, Aya was the first to get out of the car after it came to a complete stop.

"Hello," Aya said, taking out her ID and extending her hand.

"Oh, hello, officer."

The dean, wearing reading glasses and with a full head of white hair, shook hands with the experienced-looking woman in front of him.

Ignoring the other party's incorrect form of address, Aya said, "We have a general understanding of the situation, but written reports inevitably have omissions. Please ask the dean to explain the girl's situation in more detail."

The experienced driver got out of the car without saying a word, acting as if everything revolved around her and he was just a supporting character.

The elderly director started rambling on and on, while several middle-aged women beside him chimed in with their own words.

"That child was brought to the gate of an orphanage with his sister when he was little. He must have been abandoned by his parents. What a tragedy."

"The two sisters have always depended on each other for survival. Alas, no one could have predicted the fire a month ago."

"So pitiful, so pitiful."

The man listened to the dean's rambling while comparing it with the information he had already obtained.

Seven years ago, two sisters were abandoned outside the gates of an orphanage.

Out of humanitarian spirit, and because the orphanage was in good financial condition at the time, they were fortunate enough to be taken in.

My younger sister is called Bubble. She has been well-behaved and sensible since she was little, and everyone loves and cherishes her like their own little sister.

My older sister, Sasha, is a troublemaker who never lets the headmaster have a moment's peace.

Originally, these two sisters might never have crossed paths in their lives, but the fire a month ago changed the trajectory of their lives.

The mischievous older sister sneaked into the kitchen with her younger sister in the middle of the night to find something to eat. Perhaps they forgot the adults' warnings, or perhaps they were too confident in themselves, Sasha started cooking on her own.

Suspicion 1: The diligent staff relocked the kitchen door during their patrol.

Second point of doubt: Even if it was an operational error, could cooking something cause such a large fire?

Who was on duty that night?

Suddenly, the man spoke.

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. After a long while, a middle-aged woman with a pale face spoke up: "It was me. I was on duty the day the fire broke out. But officer, please listen to me!"

She said nervously, "I did the inspection once that night. According to the regulations, you only need to check once, once is enough. I didn't slack off."

"I'm sure the kitchen door was locked; they couldn't have sneaked in!"

"you sure?"

Just then, someone suddenly spoke up: "Is the door really locked?"

The middle-aged woman blushed immediately: "Why would I lie to you? It's definitely locked."

"How did they get in when the door was locked? I bet you were lazy and didn't investigate properly that night!"

"You, you're slandering me!"

"Stop arguing. The fire was just an accident; nobody wanted it," the dean quickly began to mediate.

"Dean, she's always going against me, and now she's even slandering me in front of the police officers!"

"Ha, what's the rush? If you're so excited, you must have something to hide!"

"you......"

"All right!"

The man waved his hand impatiently: "We're here to solve problems, not to hold people accountable."

"Dean, please continue. Everyone else, please don't interrupt."

The elderly director adjusted her reading glasses and continued, "Ever since my sister passed away, Bubble has been acting increasingly strangely."

Section 2, Chapter 002: SJSHDFJ Calls for Reinforcements

"At first, she was fine; she just hugged the stuffed animal her sister had given her and didn't say a word. Everyone thought the child was just too heartbroken, but who knew..."

The dean sighed deeply: "Later, Bubble started talking to herself, and sometimes she would sneak out into the yard in the middle of the night."

"Oh, what did she say? Why did she sneak out in the middle of the night? I remember you said, Dean, that Bubble is a good child, right?" At this point, the man naturally took over Aya's questioning role and asked curiously.

“Bubble is a good child,” the director affirmed. “This child would never have done such a thing before.”
