658. The Spread of Evil (Part 5)
Zhou Ke'er's ears twitched slightly. She exchanged a glance with the others and then quickly walked towards the entrance of Timius's mansion.
However, Nosa and the others were not surprised by this situation. They were stunned for a moment before realizing that Zhou Ke'er was probably not familiar with some of the local customs, and that's when they followed Zhou Ke'er.
A short while later, Zhou Ke'er, who had just stepped out of the gate of Timius's mansion, saw a group of people dressed in white robes and hooded, each carrying a thick book, marching in neat rows down the street.
Among them stood a young man dressed in a white robe trimmed with gold, holding a gilded scepter in his right hand and an open book in his left, who appeared to be of higher status than the others.
However, for some reason, his expression subtly revealed a hint of confusion, but he didn't show it. Instead, he covered his face with a warm and gentle expression and smiled and greeted the pedestrians on the street.
The pedestrians on the street seemed quite used to it. When the procession passed by, they would lower their heads and make a praying gesture, and then resume their original actions after the procession had passed.
"This is just the church's daily procession, nothing to worry about."
Nosa, who had followed Zhou Ke'er to the Timius Mansion, yawned and spoke up, "However, it seems that even those believers of the Holy Light in the church haven't noticed that the sky has turned dark, right? Maybe it's because I can't see, but I have no idea what you mean by the scene you described—is the sky now like it's nighttime?"
"It's somewhat similar, but not quite the same. The color looks very peculiar and is difficult to describe in words."
Zhou Ke'er casually replied, "Speaking of which, when Nosa was speaking just now, the young man in the middle of the parade seemed to turn his head and glance in their direction intentionally or unintentionally... Was it just my imagination?"
Everything in the city seemed to be running normally, and problems didn't seem to be arising anytime soon.
Well, that's actually more normal. If Zhou Ke'er arrived and things immediately descended into chaos, she would start to wonder if she was being targeted. Then she'd just be running around destroying countries as she went. She'd barely settled in one place before a major upheaval would break out, and that would be terrible.
Zhou Ke'er turned to Nosa, who seemed to want to ask something more, and asked before he could speak, "Where is the strongest person still in your capital? Shouldn't he be in the palace or the church?"
"Both exist. It's hard to compare who's the strongest, since they wouldn't actually put on a show in public. But anyway, both the palace and the church have some powerful individuals hidden away."
Nosa nodded. "Should we ask them for help? But I don't think the chances of success are high."
"What a joke, of course not."
Zhou Ke'er curled her lips, "I'm reminding you that in the current situation, if you encounter those powerful guys, don't hesitate, run away quickly. Powerful people already have some quirks or personality problems, and when they are amplified by this evil... unless they are the kind with an exceptionally strong mind and will, they will mutate faster than the last, and after they mutate, they will all become ridiculously strong."
Zhou Ke'er was not lying about this. As far as he knew, some time before the final battle of the old era, when those beings had just appeared, humanity suffered heavy losses in high-end combat power because of this.
I imagine it wouldn't make much difference if it were placed here.
At this point, Zhou Ke'er suddenly felt a pang of heart palpitation, her expression immediately changed, and without thinking, she shouted to the three of them, "Quickly lie down!"
Although Nosha didn't know what Zhou Ke'er had discovered, he instinctively followed her movements and quickly fell to the ground. Lannister was stunned for a moment, but fortunately Isaac reacted quickly, pulling him to the ground as well.
Almost simultaneously, a wave that seemed to be tangible suddenly spread out from not far ahead, seemingly coming from the direction the church procession had just passed by—but the problem was, the church was not far from the Timius residence, just a few steps away, and if they had just turned the street corner and disappeared from everyone's sight... they should be almost at the church by now.
Ordinary civilians on the street were caught off guard and swept away by the shockwave. They were thrown into the air and either slammed heavily against walls, streetlights, stalls, or other places, or fell hard to the ground, looking quite miserable.
Most people fainted on the spot, and some with weaker constitutions even died on the spot. A small number of people barely remained conscious, but they were just struggling in pain.
"You all stay here and don't move. I'll go check on the situation."
Zhou Ke'er frowned slightly. The fluctuation just now was not evil, but a legitimate energy fluctuation. Moreover, it looked somewhat similar to Lance from the previous Sion team. It should be the power of holy light.
Nosa quickly realized what was happening and hurriedly pulled Lannister and Isaac into Timius's mansion to hide temporarily.
Since no one could see her at this point, Zhou Ke'er simply conjured wings on her back, flew straight into the air, and quickly headed towards the church.
After all, it was less than two streets away, and Zhou Ke'er arrived at the scene of the crime in no time.
But then they saw that most of the white-robed believers were also lying on the ground, their fates unknown.
At the church entrance stood an old man dressed in a magnificent red robe, holding a scepter. His face was contorted with rage, and his eyes were completely black, as if the whites of his eyes had been removed.
The one struggling to hold off the other was the young man in the middle of the group, but he seemed to be having a very difficult time and was almost unable to hold on.
Zhou Ke'er's eyes flickered slightly, and then he instantly disappeared from the spot. The next second, his figure quietly appeared behind the old man, holding the Death Fang in his left hand and the Jade Trace Sword in his right, launching a surprise attack on his back.
To prevent this guy from dodging her attack, Zhou Ke'er specially took out the Death Fang, which she hadn't used in a long time, just for the active skill of this dagger, to unleash a guaranteed backstab.
As expected, this guy's reaction was faster than Zhou Ke'er's visual ability. The instant Zhou Ke'er appeared behind him, a ball of light suddenly appeared and slammed into Zhou Ke'er's right hand. The Jade Trace Sword almost slipped from her hand, and she even felt a tearing pain in her shoulder blade.
Fortunately, the Death Fang did not disappoint and pierced the man's back.
Having landed a successful blow, Zhou Ke'er instantly teleported behind the young man, using him to block the old man's view. She bent over slightly, panting—good heavens, with just that one strike, her entire right hand had lost all feeling and was hanging limply.

659. The Spread of Evil (Part Six)
This sneak attack further provoked the already crazed old man, causing the ornate scepter in his hand to emit a chilling black light, and his dull eyes to make it impossible to tell who he was staring at.
The young man, however, glanced at Zhou Ke'er with great surprise and subconsciously asked, "You are... the one at the entrance of Timius's mansion just now... no, what are you doing! Why did you suddenly attack the bishop?"
"Attack? What are you talking about... Take a good look around you, will you? The guy in front of you is the culprit behind this scene... Hey! Don't get distracted!"
Before Zhou Ke'er could finish speaking, the old man suddenly unleashed a beam of black light from his scepter, shooting it towards her. Startled, Zhou Ke'er quickly hid behind the young man and hurriedly warned him.
The young man had no words to refute for the time being, so he could only hold the book in his hands and sing hymns aloud. Then a barrier emitting a faint light appeared in front of him.
With a loud "bang," the black and pure white light intertwined, and the entire barrier trembled violently for a while before finally calming down.
Zhou Ke'er secretly observed the old man from behind for a while and found that although he had gone mad and lost consciousness, his subconscious attack method still seemed to be casting spells with his scepter, rather than the most common attack method after being infected by evil, which is to extend a bunch of tentacles from his body.
What if the scepter in his hand were destroyed or taken away?
Doing whatever comes to mind—that's Zhou Ke'er's way of ninjutsu!
Without a word, Zhou Ke'er first used her equipment [Eye of Aiholt] to briefly strip the old man of his five senses. Then, she instantly reappeared in front of him, extending her still-moving hand to grasp the scepter in his hand. Sure enough, the old man, stripped of his five senses, was completely caught off guard, and Zhou Ke'er firmly gripped the scepter in his hand. Immediately afterward, Zhou Ke'er activated her skill: "Magic Energy Piercing Cannon!"
A surge of spiritual energy, mixed with malevolent energy, erupted from Zhou Ke'er's hand, instantly destroying the scepter and shattering most of it. It also sent the old man flying, crashing through the church's outer wall with a deafening roar and plunging into it.
Having landed a successful blow, Zhou Ke'er didn't hesitate at all. She didn't even dare to think about pressing her advantage. She instantly teleported back behind the young man and shouted, "Quick! Da Cripple! Da Cripple! Go finish him off!"
Just kidding. He only succeeded because he sealed off the other party's five senses with the Eye of Aiholt. And he only sealed off the five senses for about a second, which consumed most of his sanity. He won't have enough sanity to finish off that old man.
So let's leave this to the young man and let them kill each other.
