"Exactly! It must be the devil secretly impersonating Father Elon to lower our guard and carry out his schemes!"
“That’s right, how could Father Elon possibly come here? I heard the disaster happened at the church, didn’t it? Father Elon wouldn’t desert his post; this guy is definitely an imposter!”
"Izmi! Quick, come save us! There's a devil here disguised as a priest! He's turned poor Albert into this!"
Elon never imagined things would turn out this way. He only wanted to pray for these suffering civilians, hoping to use the power of the Holy Light to make them feel a little better... But how did it turn out like this?!
Why is everything he does wrong...? With a "thud," the book in his hand fell to the ground.
Elon stared blankly at his hands, his eyes lifeless: he was too weak, he could do nothing, and the Holy Light no longer protected him.
Seeing this, Izumi disregarded Zhou Ke'er and rushed over, shouting, "What's going on? Can someone explain this to me?"
While asking questions, he also gestured for everyone to move away from this area, and pointed the wooden stick at the struggling civilian on the ground, frowning deeply. The civilian's current appearance was very similar to that of the monster when it first mutated!
Upon hearing this, the commoners hurriedly began to explain to Izmi all at once, pointing at Elon and pouring out all sorts of vicious words containing fear and curses.
Upon hearing this, Izumi turned to Elon, frowned slightly, and asked, "Sir, you came here with Miss Memoride and the others, right? Could you please explain what happened? Although we don't want to suspect you, since this has already happened, and you are the prime suspect, to put everyone at ease, we hope you can explain it to us. Otherwise..."
Elon raised his head, his eyes filled with the last glimmer of hope, and looked at Izmi, saying, "I didn't do this! I just... I just wanted to help you! I don't know why this happened!"
Izmi looked troubled. Elon had come with Zhou Ke'er, and he didn't want to leave an aggressive impression on her. But Elon's explanation of "I didn't do it! I don't know anything about it" was really hard to convince people. Even if he was willing to believe it, few of the civilians behind him would believe such a weak and unconvincing defense.
Sure enough, before Izmi could say anything, the common people began to curse and shout that they could not believe his nonsense.
Just then, Zhou Ke'er stepped in front of the distraught Elon, saying firmly, "Please don't jump to conclusions! The most important thing right now is to deal with this gentleman who suddenly collapsed. Besides, if this really was Father Elon's doing, why hasn't he taken any further action? Why is he just standing here arguing with you? And those of you who were standing with him just now are all fine, aren't you? Please don't be too nervous or panicked, and don't misunderstand a good person!"
After saying that, Zhou Ke'er turned to look at Elon, looked him straight in the eye, and said firmly, word by word, "Even if everyone doubts you, I still believe that you didn't do it!"
------------
664. Zhou Ke'er begins her performance.
Looking at Zhou Ke'er's determined eyes, Elon felt a lump in his throat and his eyes reddened slightly, but he still managed to hold back from showing any weakness.
Elon couldn't help but think: "Yes, Miss Memoride just said that I'm too weak to do anything, and that I should just do what she tells me to do... She already said that, but I still ignored her and tried to do things on my own. Now I've messed it up, and Miss Memoride has to stand up for me... I really don't deserve to take any action on my own. I should just do whatever Miss Memoride tells me to do!"
Izmi, sitting opposite Elon, had no idea what Elon was thinking. Seeing Zhou Ke'er standing up for Elon with such righteous indignation and unwavering resolve, Izmi felt a pang of jealousy. But for Zhou Ke'er's sake, he ultimately nodded in agreement, saying, "Miss Memoride is right. If this priest were truly a demon in disguise, there would be no need for him to remain silent after his identity was exposed, instead standing here defending himself."
Zhou Ke'er narrowed her eyes slightly—really, stop dwelling on this! Didn't you see that guy on the ground is about to get up?! Do you really think this is some kind of time-stop explanation, and the monsters don't move?!
Thinking of this, Zhou Ke'er immediately pointed to the monster struggling to stand up and said, "That's right! And think about it, Father Elon used the power of holy light to bless everyone, and everyone else didn't react when they came into contact with the holy light, but he was the only one who experienced this. Isn't it more likely that this guy is actually the hidden demon, and was discovered by the power of the holy light?!"
Everyone's eyes followed Zhou Ke'er's finger to the monster, and they all saw its ferocious appearance as it struggled to stand up. They immediately screamed, "He, he's going to stand up! What is he trying to do!"
"Izumi, hurry up and do it! What are you all standing around for?"
"Exactly! Shouldn't we deal with this monster first before figuring out whose fault it is!"
A cacophony of voices urging them on rang out. Izumi quickly reacted, rushing forward and swinging his wooden stick to knock the monster, which hadn't yet stood up, to the ground again.
"Um... I've been wanting to ask this for a while now, why use this stick that looks like it was picked up from somewhere? Aren't there any other weapons that could cause more damage?"
Zhou Ke'er finally couldn't help but ask, "Using a wooden stick...it just feels..."
Upon hearing this, Izumi looked at Zhou Ke'er, sighed, and replied helplessly, "Everyone here was just evacuated for emergency shelter. How could we possibly be carrying weapons? Even this wooden stick was obtained by dismantling a wooden chair in a corner of this shelter."
"Oh...I see..."
Zhou Ke'er suddenly realized.
Just then, Isaac saw this and casually drew the Lannister's sword from his waist, tossed it to Izmir, and said loudly, "Use this."
Upon hearing this, Izumi turned his head and caught the sword, exclaiming in surprise, "It's actually sharpened... I thought nobles' decorative swords were all unsharpened."
Isaac nodded: "Of course, normally they should all be unsharpened. We just changed our swords to sharpened ones because of what happened."
"No, that's not the point! The point is, why did you pull out my sword?!"
Lannister then realized what was happening and, seeing Isaac talking to Izmir so naturally, couldn't help but widen his eyes in shock.
"Ah, anyway, if you encounter danger, you can just hide in the back. Or do you think you'll ever need to use this sword?"
Isaac turned his head and raised an eyebrow at Lannister: "If you use this sword, you'll probably have to wait until we're all dead, right? You won't survive with the sword anyway, you'll die anyway. It doesn't matter to you whether you have a sword or not, right?"
Lannister's eyes widened: "No matter what, you're being way too direct!"
On the other side, Izumi decapitated the monster that was still struggling to stand up with a single sword strike. The monster finally fell to the ground, its head rolling around several times.
"It's incredibly sharp, without any resistance at all... It feels almost identical to the standard sword of the Knights."
Izumi examined the sword in his hand and couldn't help but sigh.
However, before he could express his feelings further, the common people beside him had just breathed a sigh of relief.
Then there was a loud "bang!" as if the shelter door had been kicked open, followed by a series of hurried footsteps approaching from the stairs.
All eyes turned to that spot, and then a knight covered in blood, his armor riddled with scratches and punctures, rushed in.
Zhou Ke'er narrowed her eyes slightly. This guy... wasn't he Edwards, the Grand Master of the Knights, whom she had just seen on the road? How did he become like this in such a short time? Could it be that he was thoroughly beaten up by that bishop? Surely not...
"Quickly, get out of here! Get to the refuge west of the capital! It's no longer safe here!"
Edwards, leaning on his cracked longsword, addressed the crowd, looking slightly out of breath. He seemed to be in a great hurry, and as he spoke, he subconsciously turned his head to look back.
Zhou Ke'er glanced at Izumi, who was still in a daze. Izumi reacted instantly, nodded to Zhou Ke'er, and then hurriedly began to calm the somewhat agitated civilians and organize them to prepare to leave.
Nosa frowned, immediately stepped forward, and asked in a low voice, "Edwards, what happened? Why are you like this?"
Zhou Ke'er and the others gathered around Edwards, eager to hear his answer about what had just happened.
"Ha... We initially went to the church to investigate based on the information you provided, but we were ambushed by the crazed bishop as soon as we arrived, and we instantly lost one of our knights. Fortunately, he seemed to be injured, so although we were badly wounded, we still managed to take him down together."
