273. Hinata Hyuga

Kisame and Hiashi Hyuga walked out of the Hokage Building, chatting and laughing.

The two walked along Ichiraku Avenue for a short while before seeing the police headquarters building not far away. Uchiha Fugaku stood at the entrance of the building, his face gloomy. The Uchiha ninjas entering and leaving the building all looked on with trepidation as they passed in front of him.

"Clan Chief Fugaku, didn't the Hokage tell you to go home and reflect on your actions? You still have the leisure to worry about the work of the police department."

As Hiashi Hyuga passed by, he made a sarcastic remark.

Upon hearing this, Fugaku ignored Hiashi and instead gave Kisame a deep look before nodding slightly to him.

"Hmph." Hiashi Hyuga snorted coldly.

As the heads of the Hyuga and Uchiha clans, respectively, and being of similar age, he and Fugaku were inevitably compared by the villagers, who compared them in every aspect they could think of, from their own strength, leadership skills, interpersonal relationships to the education of their children.

To Hiashi's dismay, he was at a disadvantage in many aspects and was constantly suppressed by Fugaku. Over time, rumors began to circulate that Hiashi was leading the Hyuga clan toward decline, and that in a few years, the Hyuga clan would be left behind by the Uchiha and unable to compare with them.

As a result, Hiashi Hyuga endured a great deal of pressure.

Until today, he finally seized upon a major mistake by Fugaku Uchiha and turned the tide.

The envoy from Kumogakure before them was of noble status, and even the Hokage dared not neglect him. However, this time, the Uchiha clan's night raid on the hotel room had thoroughly offended this envoy and created animosity between them and Kumogakure.

In stark contrast, thanks to Hiashi Hyuga's efforts, the relationship between the Hyuga clan and the Cloud Village envoys is rapidly warming up. Gaining their trust would be entirely beneficial for the Hyuga clan.

Hiashi realized that this was an opportunity for him to prove his abilities and help the Hyuga clan reverse their disadvantaged position.

With that thought in mind, Hijiri glanced triumphantly at Fugaku with the air of a victor, and then left the place with Kisame.

Fugaku watched the two figures disappear into the distance, his eyes flashing, and he murmured:

"It's about time I made my move."

Before visiting Konoha Village, Hiashi Hyuga extended a warm invitation to Kisame to visit the Hyuga clan.

Kisame readily agreed, then casually asked:

"I've heard that the Hyuga clan has produced a genius named Hyuga Neji, whose talent is so exceptional that it's a once-in-a-century phenomenon. Is that true? If I have the chance, I'd like to meet this young man."

Hiashi was taken aback upon hearing this, then replied with some surprise, "I didn't expect Neji to catch the eye of the Envoy. That child has indeed shown great talent from a young age, and he is also very hardworking. Therefore, before he was even five years old, he already possessed strength that surpassed that of an ordinary genin."

"Oh? That makes me even more interested in him; I absolutely have to meet him."

Kisame's eyes lit up, and he smiled at Hiashi, saying, "Congratulations, clan leader, on having such a fine son. The Hyuga clan is truly full of talent; the future is bright!"

His praise left Hiashi Hyuga speechless.

He gave an awkward laugh and explained to Kisame:

"Hehe, Your Excellency, you misunderstand. I am not so fortunate. Neji is the son of my twin brother, Hyuga Hizashi. I do have a daughter, but well, let's not talk about her."

When talking about his daughter, Hiashi Hyuga looked disappointed, revealing a look of frustration and disappointment.

"Chief, you are too modest. You are a man of great talent, wisdom, and martial prowess. How could your daughter be anything less than exceptional?"

Kisame was deliberately adding fuel to the fire.

Hearing this, Hiashi felt even more disappointed and sighed, "I just hope that Hinata won't do anything embarrassing when she sees the messenger later."

Before they knew it, the two arrived at the gate of the Hyuga clan's mansion.

Perhaps what I feared most came to pass.

"woooooo"

As soon as the two reached the door, they heard a little girl crying inside. Immediately afterward, a little girl dressed in a black ninja outfit ran out, head down, and dashed into the street, disappearing into the distance without looking back.

"Hey, is that little girl Hinata Hyuga, your daughter, clan leader? Why is she crying so sadly? Did someone bully her?"

Kisame watched Hinata's retreating figure and asked Hiashi in surprise.

"What is Hinata up to now?"

Hiashi frowned, already getting angry. At that moment, an elder of the Hyuga main family, accompanied by a boy with long black hair, walked out of the door and quickly bowed to Hyuga Hiashi.

"Elder, what exactly happened?" Hiashi Hyuga asked sternly, his brows furrowed.

"Clan Chief, Lady Hinata just had a sparring session with Neji. Despite her best efforts, she was ultimately defeated. She's probably too heartbroken, so she ran off alone," the elder replied cautiously.

The Neji he was referring to was clearly the black-haired boy beside him. After bowing to Hiashi, the boy stood there quietly, displaying a profound and composed demeanor despite his young age.

"A narrow defeat? I think it was a crushing defeat."

Hiashi snorted coldly and bluntly exposed the elder who had spoken well of Hinata, leaving the latter with an embarrassed smile.

"As you know, clan leader, it's not that the young lady is lacking in talent, but rather that young master Neji's talent is too high. He can already use Gentle Fist skillfully, and he can even fight against ordinary Chunin."

As the elder spoke, he glanced at Neji, offering no words of praise or appreciation.

"It's all thanks to the excellent guidance of the clan leader and elders," Neji said calmly and humbly.

"Neji, don't be arrogant. I'll personally check your Gentle Fist later to see how much you've improved." Hiashi's expression was stern, but the praise in his eyes was undisguised.

"that"

Just then, Kisame suddenly interjected, "Chief Hiashi, your daughter just ran away from home. She's so young, aren't you worried at all? Aren't you going to chase after her and check on her?"

"My lord, the village is safe. Hinata will be fine. My daughter has been timid and cowardly since she was little. When she encounters failure, she only cries and runs away. Once she's finished crying, she'll come home on her own."

Hijikata said nonchalantly, his face indifferent.

"Clan leader, how about I go and find Hinata? I should know where she is."

Neji hesitated for a moment before speaking.

He and Hinata grew up together and he was her cousin, so naturally he would care about his sister a lot. However, given Neji's personality, he wouldn't usually show this concern too openly.

"No need, Neji. Your training is more important."

Hiashi refused outright, because he still wanted Neji to make a good impression on the Cloud Village envoy.

However, to Hiashi's surprise, before he could finish speaking, Kisame beside him strode forward in the direction where Hinata had disappeared.

"My lord, what is this?" Hiashi caught up with him, puzzled.

"In any case, shouldn't you care more about your own daughter, Chief Hiashi?"

Kisame turned around, smiled, and said something to Hiashi.

Hiashi had no choice but to go with Kisame to search for Hinata in the streets.

Soon, the two spotted Hinata in the distance. She was still running forward with her head down, seemingly trying to escape her family and leave this painful place.

Hiashi's gaze turned cold, and he was about to go over and stop Hinata to give her a good scolding when a small accident suddenly occurred.

With a bang.

Hinata wasn't looking where she was going and accidentally bumped into three village children who were about her age. One of them was a chubby little boy, and when Hinata bumped into him, the ice cream he was holding fell to the ground with a "thud".

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Hinata immediately felt as if she had committed a terrible crime and apologized to the other party in a flustered manner.

"Ugh, why do your eyes look like that? They're disgusting."

"Don't stare at me, you're not normal."

"I know, this girl's eyes... she's from the Hyuga clan, she must be Neji's cousin."

The three kids, one after another, pointed and gossiped around Hinata, forcing her to bury her head in her chest, pitifully and helplessly accepting their accusations.

Little Fatty looked at the ice cream that had fallen on the ground, getting angrier and angrier. Not wanting to let Hinata off so easily, he pointed at her and said to his two friends:

"Let's go, take her into the grove and teach her a lesson."

So the three kids pushed Hinata and headed into the woods not far away.

"Chief Rizu, your daughter is being bullied by a few common brats. Are you just going to stand by and do nothing?"

Kisame glanced at Hiashi Hyuga and asked in surprise.

"As the head of the Hyuga clan, how can I meddle in the affairs of the juniors? If word gets out, wouldn't I become a laughing stock? Hinata made this mess herself, so she should deal with it herself."

Hiashi Hyuga crossed his arms and frowned as he spoke.

In his view, Hinata was timid and cowardly by nature, and she had to learn to overcome her shortcomings and not always hide behind her father.

The Hyuga clan prides itself on being the largest clan in Konoha, and its members are known for their arrogance. As the eldest daughter of the Hyuga clan, Hinata should possess this arrogance even more, using her Byakugan and Gentle Fist to teach those disrespectful brats a lesson.

Unfortunately, Hiashi Hyuga was soon disappointed again.

In the grove, Hinata, surrounded by three brats, stared wide-eyed in terror. Instead of striking back as Hiashi had hoped, she meekly obeyed and even suddenly turned and ran away.

"Want to run?"

Little Fatty shouted and grabbed Hinata's hair, pulling her back.

"He tried to run away without even a proper apology. What a despicable guy."

"I can't forgive her!"

Spurred on by his companions, the chubby boy grabbed Hinata's head, forced her to kneel on the ground, and made her apologize.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry"

Hinata kept talking, tears streaming down her face, quickly soaking the ground.

"Louder! I can't hear you. Apologize properly, you bastard!" the chubby boy yelled, escalating his bravado.

"That's so embarrassing."

Seeing this, Hiashi Hyuga put his hand to his forehead, his disappointment in his daughter reaching its peak.

Consider Fugaku Uchiha's two sons. His elder son, Itachi Uchiha, joined the Anbu at the young age of nine and was hailed as a genius unprecedented in Konoha's history. Even as a child, Fugaku Uchiha displayed extraordinary ninjutsu talent, placing him on par with Neji.

Then look at his daughter Hinata, she's just a good-for-nothing.

In terms of raising offspring, Hyuga Hiashi undoubtedly lost to his rival Uchiha Fugaku, and lost badly at that.

He attributed most of his failures to his daughter Hinata.

Kisame couldn't stand it anymore and went up to them.

"It's disgusting that a bunch of kids are bullying a girl here."
