Shouldn't an apology be made more appealing?
"You lecherous vixen, die! Wind Vortex Sword!"
After being taken aback by Su Bai's words, Ying quickly realized that Su Bai was teasing her. The guilt that had filled her heart instantly turned into shame, and the violent wind element directly blew Paimon, who was watching the show from the side, against the wall.
Lightning element flowed within Su Bai's body, forming a thin lightning element shield that blocked Ying's Wind Vortex Sword and incidentally rescued Paimon, who was hanging on the wall.
"Alright, alright, I was just kidding. Look, you've recently mastered a very powerful move, haven't you?"
"What?! This is clearly because you angered me! Besides, I already knew the Wind Vortex Sword technique!"
"Don't worry about whether you knew how to do it before, just tell me if this move is better than the one you used before."
Ying was speechless after Su Bai's words. She could feel that her moves were indeed much stronger than before, but she felt that something was not quite right.
"Um, Ying, I think it might be because you got angry and increased your wind element output that made you so powerful."
"Yeah, I didn't expect you to be so smart this time, Paimon."
Paimon shook her dizzy head and snorted. Of course she knew, she had experienced it firsthand. Ignoring the silly Ying, Paimon was flown behind Su Bai and hugged Su Bai's tail.
Perhaps it was because Ying had made too much noise earlier, but apart from Hilichurls and slimes, Su Bai and the others didn't encounter any other monsters along the way.
"How many Hilichurls has this already? There are way too many Hilichurls in this ruin."
After killing the last Hilichurl in the passage, Ying was panting heavily. There were so many Hilichurls and Slimes along the way that it was ridiculous. Even Su Bai, who wanted to watch the show, had to take care of a lot of monsters.
"No, we can't go on like this. If we do, we'll all die of exhaustion here sooner or later."
Su Bai clutched his lower back. Most of his immortal power had been used to activate the wisp of Diluc's father's soul, and now his body really couldn't take it anymore. If this continued, he would have to start drinking the tonics that Bai Shu had prescribed for him again.
"But this ruin is just too big, we have no idea where the Abyss Mage is hiding."
Ying leaned against the wall of the ruins to recover her strength, while Su Bai frowned, pondering how to find this cunning abyss mage.
"Click, click"
A sound of fruit being gnawed interrupted Su Bai's thoughts. Paimon, who was eating a Sunset Fruit, noticed that Su Bai's gaze had fallen on her. Not one to be stingy, she took out a Sunset Fruit from her space and handed it to Su Bai.
"Su Bai, here you go, it's very sweet. Ying, do you want some?"
"Why did you give Su Bai a Sunset Fruit right away, but ask me a question first? We're clearly the best partners."
"But I think Su Bai is also Paimon's good partner."
Ying glanced at Su Bai with resentment. She was the one who arrived first. Su Bai was just a little stronger, a little more handsome, and had two fluffy tails. Hmm, she really wanted to touch those fluffy tails again.
"Paimon, do me a favor. You'll get a good reward if it's done."
Faced with Su Bai's cheerful smile, Paimon, unaware that she was about to be tricked, thought that Su Bai wanted to give her something nice, and the naive Paimon nodded in agreement without thinking.
Chapter Thirty-Two: Entrapment
Within the silent ruins, countless monsters lurked in the shadows, their crimson eyes reflecting a small, pitiful, and helpless figure. Some of the more brutal Hilichurls had even begun setting up fires and cooking.
"Su Bai, is your method really effective at luring out the Abyss Mage? I feel like it's only luring out a bunch of monsters."
Su Bai, who had concealed his presence with magic, gave Ying a reassuring look. The Abyss Mage, that greedy and evil fellow, would not let go of the little trinket he had given Paimon.
"Speaking of Ying, I really didn't expect Paimon's acting to be so good."
Not far from the two, Paimon in mid-air was trembling with fear at the monsters on the ground, but because of the celestial artifacts that Su Bai had mentioned, Paimon stubbornly did not run away.
"Hey, is it possible that Paimon isn't faking it?"
"Besides, you deliberately want to see Paimon scared, don't you?"
Faced with Su Bai's perverse sense of humor, Ying could only helplessly complain, while Su Bai retorted with a serious expression.
"Ying, don't talk nonsense. Paimon and I are best friends. Why would I betray her?"
"Put down that phonograph before you talk, you bastard."
"Cough cough."
Su Bai calmly put the phonograph back into the space of the Eye of God. He was so excited that he forgot that this magic could not make the things he took out invisible.
"Let's not talk about that for now. Ying, have you noticed that although these monsters have been keeping an eye on Paimon, none of them have made a move?"
"Hey, it seems to be true. When I encountered monsters in the wild before, they all rushed at me like crazy. Why aren't they attacking Paimon this time?"
Ying, reminded by Su Bai, also noticed something was amiss. Oh right, why aren't these monsters attacking Paimon? Do monsters also discriminate based on who they attack? Damn it.
"Let me share some knowledge with you."
"Don't be fooled by the seemingly simple-minded appearance of wild Abyss mages. Some intelligent Abyss mages can control Hilichurls and other monsters."
"Think about it, every time you encounter an Abyss Mage in the wild, aren't there always some Hilichurls as minions around that Abyss Mage?"
After Su Bai said that, Ying realized that it was indeed true. Every time she encountered an Abyss Mage, there were always several Hilichurls with him.
"So, Su Bai, you mean there's an abyss mage controlling these monsters inside this ruin?"
Thinking of this, Ying gasped. If there really was an abyss mage controlling these monsters in this ruin, wouldn't she be in danger of being trapped and dying here?
"Actually, if it were Diluc, we wouldn't have had so much trouble. He should have investigated this ruin long ago. With him here, it shouldn't have taken long to find that abyss mage."
"It's a pity I don't want to bother him, so I'll have to make do with Paimon for now. Besides, Paimon was caught by you, so our fishing trip is quite a good match for Paimon."
Ying glared at Su Bai, looking very unhappy that Su Bai had used Paimon as bait. Su Bai scratched his head; he had no choice. Ying and his own strength were undeniable. Even if the two of them wanted to be bait, the Abyss Mage wouldn't fall for it.
“Su Bai, you know that Paimon is my dearest friend and best partner.”
"You're ripping off Paimon like this, you need to pay more."
Ying said the words "I have to pay more" with such confidence that Su Bai was a little taken aback. What? More money? Good heavens, Su Bai was actually being ripped off one day?
Looking at Ying's slightly thin figure, Su Bai ultimately didn't say no, and gently stroked Ying's golden hair.
"Alright, I have a portable cooking pot here, you can have it. I don't need it."
"No, no, no, I was just joking with you, Su Bai, why did you take it seriously?"
Ying immediately shook her head and refused when she saw that Su Bai was really going to ask for more money. She just wanted to joke with Su Bai and didn't really want anything from him.
"Alright, take it if I give it to you. Look how skinny you are. With this, you can have hot meals even when you're out in the wild."
If Su Bai had always regarded Ying as a friend before, then as their understanding of each other deepened over the past few days, Ying's status in Su Bai's heart changed from a friend to a younger sister (a Ying who is at least 500 years old; meow meow meow?).
"Su Bai..."
Ying was somewhat touched. Since she woke up, only Paimon had cared about her like this. She never expected to meet a second person who cared about her today. However, a voice deep inside her kept telling her that she was not from this world after all, and she shouldn't show this feeling.
Shh~ The fish has taken the bait.
Not far away, Paimon was still observing her surroundings with trepidation, completely unaware that a water-attribute abyss mage was slowly approaching her from behind.
"Little one, what are you doing here all alone? Let me see how the baby in your arms is doing."
The Abyss Mage's unique voice rang out behind Paimon, and Paimon, quick-witted, immediately flew to the side, clutching the amulet Su Bai had given her.
"You, you, you, you! Don't come any closer! Paimon, I'm very powerful!"
"Hehehe, let me see."
"No! Help! Help! Su Bai, Ying, please come and save me!"
The Abyss Mage chuckled evilly. It had been observing for quite some time, and those two fairly strong individuals had probably gotten lost in the ruins long ago; otherwise, they would have appeared already.
The elf in front of them, so weak it couldn't even beat a wild boar, was probably just emergency food that the two men had brought. Those two probably wouldn't have come looking for her on purpose.
"Shout, shout, even if you shout until your throat is hoarse, no one will come to save you."
"If you obediently hand over that treasure in your arms to me, I'll give it to you quickly and easily. Otherwise, hehehehehe."
Paimon was so frightened by the Abyss Mage's strange words that he got goosebumps all over. Before the Abyss Mage could continue speaking, Paimon turned around and ran away. The Abyss Mage was stunned for a moment and then hurriedly followed.
"Su Bai, is this the Abyss Mage you were talking about with brains? I feel like he's not even as smart as the Abyss Mages in the wild. At least the Abyss Mages in the wild know how to use elemental attacks on Paimon."
Watching the abyss mage chasing Paimon through the air, Su Bai didn't know what to say. Helpless, Su Bai could only reach out and pat Ying's head to change the subject.
"Luminous, be careful when you fight monsters in the future. Paimon may have a magical ability that can reduce the intelligence of enemies to the same level as hers."
"Wait until the enemy becomes stupid, then take advantage of the moment when the enemy's mind is not working properly to stab him in the back."
Ying nodded thoughtfully as she watched the Abyss Mage flying around in the sky. Perhaps she really could learn some stabbing techniques from the debt collector.
Chapter Thirty-Three: The Tragic Abyss Mage
"Phew, I'm exhausted. Fly, keep flying! Why aren't you flying anymore?"
The Abyss Mage brandished the old ley line branch in his hand, and four bubbles tightly circled around Paimon. After chasing for a full five minutes, the Abyss Mage finally remembered to use elements to deal with Paimon.
"You're cheating! If you're so capable, let's have a race to see who can fly faster."
Paimon, who had put almost all of its skill points into the escape skill, strongly condemned the Abyss Mage's behavior. The Abyss Mage was exhausted from the chase and now just wanted to kill the little thing as soon as possible, get the treasure, and find a place to rest.
Exhausted, the abyss mage removed its external shield to conserve elemental power, seeing Paimon as no threat whatsoever.
"Little thing, take out the treasure you're holding."
"You, you don't come any closer!"
Faced with the approaching Abyss Mage, Paimon closed his eyes in fear. One second, two seconds, half a minute, a full minute, Paimon felt no movement at all.
Puzzled, Paimon forced herself to open her eyes a crack, only to find the Abyss Mage, who was just a few steps away, suddenly frozen in mid-air for some unknown reason.
"Huh? What's going on?"
Paimon reached out and touched the Abyss Mage's body, and the Abyss Mage fell straight down from the sky and crashed to the ground. Paimon looked at his finger in disbelief and then at the Abyss Mage on the ground.
"Little Paimon, stop looking. You didn't do that."
Su Bai picked up one of the Abyss Mage's short legs and skillfully used magic to control the unconscious Abyss Mage. Paimon snorted when he saw Su Bai and Ying suddenly appear.
"You two bastards! That abyss mage almost ate me, and you were just watching the show."
"Paimon, you seem to be alright, huh? Su Bai, what did you do to this abyss mage?"
Ying waved her hand in front of the Abyss Mage, who was staring blankly. The Abyss Mage didn't react at all, just stood there blankly, just like Paimon who had just woken up.
When Paimon saw that Luminous was ignoring him, he immediately flew to Luminous's head and unleashed a barrage of attacks on her golden hair, which made Luminous so angry that she almost tried to steal the monster's pot and cook Paimon.
"You two stop fooling around. Paimon, I left some divine power and a spell on the amulet I gave you. It will be activated when you encounter danger."
