George remained unmoved. Law enforcement authority in all of New York City rested with the NYPD, and no one could enforce the law without authorization.

"Hehehe, what a dutiful and good policeman~" Cao Gui's teasing tone rang out again.

Gwen was startled and quickly moved above the two people, fearing that the masked man would attack her father.

However, to her surprise, the masked man was unexpectedly good-natured. With a light step, he disappeared into the night sky.

Gwen breathed a sigh of relief and shot out a web to leave.

George's body went limp on the bridge, and he slumped to the ground.

"Damn it, I can't let my temper get the better of me next time."

……

The next day, the story of what happened on the Williamsburg Bridge spread like wildfire, and all of New York knew about the battle between two masked men and the Lizard Monster.

However, although many people know about this incident, no one has any evidence. There are no video recordings or media reports; only eyewitness accounts.

However, as soon as they open their mouths, they are met with ridicule: "What lizard monster? What masked man? It's all fake. You can't produce any evidence. How can we believe you?"

That evening, another event ignited the entire United States: a Hollywood superstar was exposed for having an affair, violating Christian doctrine and considered utterly heinous. The entire nation launched a barrage of criticism against her, while the Williamsburg Bridge incident quickly faded from the news.

Looking at the numerous news reports on television, Cao Gui realized that S.H.I.E.L.D. had intervened to control public opinion. Cao Gui hadn't expected them to act so quickly.

"Cao, George, wash your hands and get ready for dinner," Helen called softly as she poked her head out of the kitchen.

"Oh, okay." Cao Gui nodded and sat down at the table with George.

Gwen was worried about her father, so she took Cao Gui back to their apartment in Manhattan.

At the dinner table, George was expressionless and seemed to be in a bad mood, but the two little rascals wouldn't let him off the hook.

"Dad, you were so brave last night! You actually dared to fight the lizardmen directly!" The little boy next to Cao Gui said excitedly, waving his knife and fork around.

"There's no lizard monster. It was just a car accident on the Williamsburg Bridge," George said irritably.

"Simon, don't listen to those boring urban legends anymore, or you'll become stupid."

Simon looked completely innocent: "Really? But John and I watched the body camera footage on your computer, and there really was a lizard monster in it."

"Damn it, Simon, don't say it out loud!" John, the little brat opposite him, said angrily.

George's face darkened, and he smacked them both on the head twice. Damn it, he had forgotten to delete the video from his computer.

"Dad, why did you point a gun at the person who saved you? They are all good people," little Simon said.

"It was the one upstairs who saved me, I don't deny it," George said seriously.

"But they are both people who abuse force. They might save people, but they are definitely not good people. They are dangerous elements!"

“John, Simon, don’t think about worshipping them. Maybe the appearance of the Lizard Monster is related to them.”

Cao Gui smacked his lips, finding it quite novel. What was this? Was it a lucky guess or deduction?

"Dad, don't you think it's going too far to talk about your savior like that?"

Gwen said irritably, "My daughter stayed up all night because she was worried about your safety. She traveled all the way from New Jersey to the Williamsburg Bridge, across the entire island of Manhattan, and yet George labeled her a dangerous person."

That's absolutely outrageous!

“No,” George said.

“We know nothing about him. Maybe he’s a serial killer behind the scenes. If he’s a good person, why doesn’t he come out openly? Why does he hide his identity with a mask and hood? Why doesn’t he join the NYPD and protect the city with us?”

"Therefore, before they reveal their true colors, we can define them as dangerous elements..."

"Ahem, George, let's eat. No need for all this high-sounding talk," Helen quickly interrupted him.

"Never mind, I'm not eating." Gwen put down her knife and fork, got up and left: "I'm going outside for some fresh air."

Is this girl feeling unwell today? Cao Gui was speechless; he'd never seen her so temperamental before.

"Ahem, I'll go keep her company." Cao Gui apologized and got up to follow her.

Chapter 196 Gwen: I got bitten by a spider!

On a communal balcony of an apartment building.

Gwen looked down at the brightly lit Big Apple and idly kicked at the clutter on the balcony. After calming down, she wasn't so angry anymore, but she still felt a little uncomfortable.

"Gwen, what's wrong?" Cao Gui walked to her side, and the two leaned against the balcony.

"It's nothing, I'm just in a bad mood," Gwen said, puffing out her pink cheeks, sounding a little unhappy.

"Huh?" Cao Gui was completely confused. He quickly realized that today wasn't the day his period was coming.

"Not that one." Gwen was exasperated and slapped away Cao Gui's hand that was pinching her haphazardly.

"Alright, alright, let's not talk about that then." Cao Gui spread his hands and chuckled.

"Is something bothering you? Tell me so I can cheer you up."

"...That's enough, you don't seem like you're here to comfort me at all." Gwen pinched him in annoyance.

"Okay, then I won't say anything." Cao Gui walked behind her, hugged her from behind, and rested his chin on her shoulder.

Gwen tilted her head and gently rubbed her cheek against Cao Gui's: "You bad boy, don't touch me."

"Okay, sure." Cao Gui was very obedient.

"No wielding weapons." Gwen twisted her body.

"Ah...it's out of control." Little Cao Gui was very disobedient.

"..."

The two stood on the balcony, silently watching the bustling city of New York below. After a long silence, Gwen suddenly spoke:

"Cao Gui, I have something to tell you."

"uh-huh?"

"I...I don't know how to start." Gwen sounded agitated and kicked the wall with her toe.

"What's wrong, darling?" Cao Gui reached out and stroked her lower abdomen. "Could it be... you're pregnant?"

“No.” Gwen grabbed his hand:

“I didn’t even graduate high school, and I don’t want a baby right now… Damn it, don’t interrupt me.”

Gwen said angrily and stepped on Cao Gui's foot.

"Okay, okay, you can continue." Cao Gui grasped her hand in return.

“It’s just…it’s just…” Gwen suddenly broke free from Cao Gui’s embrace, cupped Cao Gui’s face in her hands, and said seriously:

"What I'm about to say... well, darling, please don't be afraid."

"Hmm." Cao Gui's expression turned serious:

"Gwen, I'm from the FBI, I'm not afraid, just tell me!"

“I…I…” Gwen’s face showed a conflicted and hesitant expression, which then suddenly became firm:

"I've been bitten by a spider!"

"Who is the spider?"

Cao Gui said solemnly, with the righteous face of a law enforcement officer, but his heart skipped a beat. He did not expect Gwen to suddenly reveal her true colors.

"The spider isn't any particular creature; it's just an insect." Gwen was a little angry and a bit agitated.

"What?" Cao Gui was immediately shocked: "Honey, how did you get bitten? Where? Does it hurt?"

As he spoke, Cao Gui touched Gwen all over, focusing on her two prominent features and one flaw.

"Damn it, don't touch me like that!" Gwen snapped.

"What I'm saying is, I've become Spider-Man!"

puff!

"What are you laughing at?" Gwen's expression immediately turned hostile.

“I…darling, I’ve remembered something happy.”

"What's the good news?"

"My girlfriend is going to have my baby."

“I’m your girlfriend, when did I have your baby?” Gwen grabbed Cao Gui’s ear and said angrily.

"Ahem, Gwen, let's get back to the main topic." Cao Gui removed her hand, his expression solemn:

"The Spider-Man you're talking about, is she pretty?"

"I am Spider-Man, Spider-Man is me, tell me, am I beautiful or not..."

puff!

"Hey—!" Gwen grabbed Cao Gui's cheeks with both hands and pulled them outwards, gritting her teeth: "I'm not joking!"

"Ugh... I didn't laugh."

"You've been laughing at me the whole time, without stopping!"

“Darling,” Cao Gui said seriously, brushing Gwen’s hand away.

"I'm an FBI agent, I'm professionally trained, and no matter how funny something is, I won't laugh unless I can't help it."

Gwen's face darkened. "That damned guy, he's a master of playing dumb." With a flick of her finger, she shot out spider silk from her wrist and smeared it on Cao Gui's face.

"Uuuuuuu..."

With a ripping sound, Gwen pulled off the spider web: "Now do you understand?"

"Oh God, God, you're Spider-Man?" Cao Gui was utterly shocked.

“Yes, that’s right.” Gwen nodded, looking like she was eager to praise me. After saying it, all her worries disappeared.

"Then...why don't you have eight legs?" Cao Gui stroked his chin, gazing thoughtfully at her two long legs.

"Eight legs, four pairs of stockings, how wonderful."
