Beth: "..."

Despite her reluctance, Beth reluctantly fastened her Beretta 92F pistol to her waist after Cao Gui's insistence.

"Good girl!" Cao Gui nodded in satisfaction.

Beth rolled her eyes and walked side by side with Cao Gui toward the cab of the truck ahead.

"Cao, why do you insist that we bring guns?"

"Safety!" Cao Gui said irritably, "Girl, this world is dangerous. As a vulnerable person, you must protect yourself and have the ability to fight back."

“The world is in danger, but I can’t see it at all?” Beth dismissed Cao Gui’s words.

Cao Gui: "..."

It's hard to reason with a damned devil, and seeing this, Cao Gui was too lazy to argue with her anymore.

Soon, the two walked to the driver's side of a car, and Cao Gui raised his hand and gently knocked.

However, before the words had even faded, the driver suddenly popped out, startling Cao Gui and Beth. Cao Gui almost emptied his magazine.

"What's the matter?" the driver asked in a rather unfriendly tone.

"I'd like to ask, do you know what happened up ahead?" Cao Gui calmly put away his Glock 18.

"A vehicle overturned about five miles ahead, and a truckload of chemicals is spilled all over the ground," the driver said. "It will probably take several hours to clear the road."

"Chemical substances!?" Cao Gui's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly asked, "Is there a town five miles ahead? Or a river?"

Please, please don't have that!

Upon hearing the driver's words, Cao Gui immediately thought of the young Scarlett Johansson, but the Scarlett Johansson wasn't important; what mattered was the group of giant spiders.

Cao Gui hates spiders the most. He can't even stand a wolf spider the size of a palm, let alone those giant spiders as big as millstones.

Of course, the beautiful Spider-Woman is an exception; she can kiss me while hanging upside down, or weave a web between the skyscrapers of New York and sleep with me.

"No, there's nothing there, it's just a highway," the driver said.

Hearing the driver's words, Cao Gui breathed a sigh of relief. That's right, this is West Virginia, not Arizona.

"Okay, thank you."

Cao Gui thanked him and then took Beth back to the car.

"Guys, there's been a traffic accident ahead. It'll probably take several hours to clear up. Should we wait, or find another route?"

Cao Gui briefly explained the situation, then looked at the four people. He didn't care, but it was up to them to decide.

“I don’t care,” Gwen said.

"I think we should find another way. I can't wait several hours," Lucy complained.

“I agree with Lucy; waiting for hours is too boring,” Beth said.

“Alright then, let’s find another way,” Harry said.

Cao Gui took out a map to check, and then found a fork in the road that made a big bend and a gas station behind him. This fork in the road made a big bend and then reconnected to the main road.

After roughly measuring the distance, Cao Gui felt it should be more than five miles, allowing him to avoid the traffic jam caused by the accident ahead.

Harry glanced at the route, then turned the vehicle around and headed towards the fork in the road behind him.

However, what Cao Gui didn't notice was that there was a small line of words on the map, which marked the name of the road: Xiongshan Road!

Chapter 33 Safety Rules

On the highway, young men and women drove pickup trucks, singing songs, and entered a fork in the road. All they could see was a dirt road.

Beside the intersection, there was a simple wooden sign with a charcoal pencil indicating that there was a gas station a mile away.

Harry couldn't help but stop at the intersection: "This place looks so shabby."

"There's no other way, we're stuck in traffic, so we have to take the back roads," Lucy sighed.

"No problem, the forest is quite fun," Beth said with a smile.

Cao Gui frowned. The American countryside deep in the jungle was not a good place.

Harry drove his car onto a side road, kicking up a trail of dust and exhaust fumes. After crossing the dirt road, Cao Gui and his companions soon saw dozens of abandoned vehicles parked on the side of the road, including RVs, vans, cars, and pickup trucks like theirs.

As expected of a nation on wheels, the United States has the world's largest number of cars, probably more than the second and third largest combined.

Before long, Cao Gui and his group arrived at a dilapidated gas station, or rather, ruins.

The house was made of wooden planks, with unidentified black marks covering the wooden walls, and all the metal objects were rusty. It looked older than Cao Gui's grandfather.

At the entrance of the dilapidated wooden house sat a dirty old man, his face and body covered in large patches of brown grime. He squinted and lazily sunbathed in front of the door, holding a bottle of pink beverage in his hand.

The bottle of beverage looks bright; it's probably the newest thing at this gas station.

“Hey sir, do you know if this road can be reconnected to the highway?” Cao Gui asked from inside the car.

The old man looked up and Cao Gui noticed that one of his eyes was big and the other was small, and that he only had one pitiful front tooth left, hanging forlornly on his gums.

This old man... is so ugly it's almost frightening.

Upon hearing Cao Gui's question, the old man did not speak, but simply pointed to the wall beside him.

Seeing this, Cao Gui opened the car door and went to the wall, where an old map was hanging. A mountain road was marked in red on the map, which was the same road that Cao Gui had found on the map before, except that this map was obviously clearer.

Cao Gui took out his phone and took a picture of the map, only to find that his phone had lost signal.

Cao Gui felt a chill in his heart; all the signs indicated that they were entering a state of isolation and helplessness.

Goodbye, sir, and best wishes for your health.

Suppressing the strange thoughts in his mind, Cao Gui greeted the old man and returned to the car. As long as it wasn't a situation like the loom incident before, he was confident he could handle it.

Little Green Goblin glanced at the new map Cao Gui had brought back, then diligently drove off. Once they passed this mountainous area, they could return to the main road.

The music started playing again in the car, and the young people embarked on their journey once more. The three girls were quite happy, taking pictures with their cameras. It was their first time visiting such a place without their parents.

Behind him, the old man watched the departing vehicle and muttered to himself:

"Take good care, young men, this is not a place for adventure games..."

……

"Missing Person Notice... Zzz... Ginny, 22 years old... Zzz... Mountaineer..."

Inside the car, the radio kept humming intermittently before finally going completely silent.

The girls in the back seat had become listless by this point. They had been very excited at first, after all, it was a view they had never seen before, but the problem was that once the excitement wore off, it was replaced by the same old scenery, which was extremely boring.

Especially after entering the forest path called Xiongshan Road, the view is filled with dense, impenetrable trees, and even the sunlight is scattered, making it seem very dark and oppressive.

Fortunately, there was a dead deer by the roadside, which somewhat boosted their interest.

However, at that moment, there were several loud crashes, as if something had been caught in the wheels of the car before Cao Gui and the others could get out to check.

The Ford Raptor 150 suddenly lurched forward, then swayed violently and lost its balance before crashing headfirst into a large tree by the roadside.

"Oh! Shit!"

"what happens?"

"Slam on the brakes!"

The little green devil reacted quickly, slamming on the brakes and bringing the car to a stop with a narrow escape, without crashing into a tree.

Cao Gui and his four companions staggered off the car, somewhat confused about the situation.

"Damn it, Harry, what just happened?" Lucy said, quite annoyed.

"It must be a flat tire," Gwen said.

"Impossible, this car has been modified, the wheels are reinforced, it's impossible for a tire to burst," Harry said irritably.

Cao Gui ignored them and walked straight to the front of the car. It wasn't a flat tire, but rather a punctured tire.

A wire mesh was wrapped around the inside of the wheel, and a row of old police tire spikes were deeply embedded in the tire. Clearly, someone had done this intentionally.

Seeing Cao Gui walk ahead, the others followed him to the front of the car to investigate. Upon seeing the culprit, Lucy immediately flew into a rage:

"Damn it, whose kid is such a bastard to put tire spikes on the mountain road?"

Cao Gui pulled out the tire spikes, which were covered in dust and had clearly visible scratches. There were even some tire debris stuck to the broken parts.

It's obvious that these tire spikes have been used many times, and quite a few vehicles have been punctured by them.

“Lucy, this shouldn’t have been left by a child. Besides, this area is all primeval forest, there are no villages or children around,” Cao Gui said.

Lucy pursed her lips, not taking Cao Gui's words to heart.

“There’s no point in saying all this. Let’s talk about what to do now,” Beth said.

"Of course it's fixed, what else is there to say?"

Cao Gui took out his tools and two brand-new inner tubes, and used a jack to secure the front of the vehicle.

“Harry, help me out and hand me the tools,” Cao Gui said. “Girls, you’re free to do as you please, but don’t go too far. It’s not safe here, so don’t leave our sight.”

"OK, OK, whatever you say."

Beth didn't seem to care much; she'd heard the word "insecurity" many times today.

Gwen nodded silently. She also sensed something was wrong. It was very illogical for police booby traps to appear in the middle of nowhere.

Cao Gui ignored Beth and started changing the tires. Before he transmigrated, he had his own car and knew basic car repair knowledge.

However, since this was the first time I had tried it myself, I didn't do it very well. It took me more than half an hour to barely manage to change the first tire.

But the girls couldn't wait any longer. At first, they watched Cao Gui repair the house with great interest, but after a few minutes, they all left.

Women of this age prefer activity to stillness, and unlike Michaela, they have absolutely no interest in car repair.

Before long, Lucy couldn't sit still any longer:

"Guys, I'm going to take a walk over there, I'll be right back."

Upon hearing this, Cao Gui immediately stopped what he was doing: "Wait, Lucy, it's not safe here, don't wander around!"

"Damn, there's not a soul around here, how can it not be safe?" Lucy complained. "I've been waiting here for half an hour, it's so boring."

"I'm just going to take a walk around the neighborhood, I'll be right back."
