However, Melinda and her S.H.I.E.L.D. agents waited all night but still did not see the Predator appear.

By daybreak the next day, Melinda had to report to headquarters that the mission had failed.

Nick Fury was furious and ordered Melinda to find out the situation within three days, and the report must be on his desk three days later.

Melinda was helpless; the whereabouts of the alien creatures were beyond her control, but since her superiors had given the order, she could only obediently investigate.

Completely clueless, she reviewed the nearby surveillance footage but found nothing. However, she did discover something strange:

Why would someone leave a bar alone in the middle of the night, and why is there no one else in the bar after that person leaves?

"This kid... seems a bit strange!" Melinda muttered to herself as she stared at Cao Gui's information in front of the computer.

Chapter 59 S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Visit

At dusk, Cao Gui drove a Porsche Cayenne back to his villa.

Don't get me wrong, Cao Gui didn't have the money to buy this kind of car. This Porsche actually belonged to Harry and was given to Cao Gui.

Harry took back the Ford Raptor 150 to keep as a collector's item; the car brought him so many wonderful memories that he couldn't bear to give it up.

Originally, Cao Gui planned to take public transportation back by himself, but Harry insisted on giving Cao Gui the Porsche Cayenne and even called a lawyer to complete all the formalities.

There was no other way; Cao Gui had to accept it at this point.

Inside the villa, on the second-floor balcony, hung a bed sheet and a few pieces of clothing belonging to Cao Gui and Gwen. The faint scent of laundry detergent wafted in the breeze. Inside the villa, Gwen was busy tidying up their home.

The once empty and desolate house has been transformed by Gwen into a warm and inviting place, giving it the feel of home.

"Gwen, I'm back," Cao Gui said with a smile as he parked the car.

"Oh, then hurry up and wash your hands and get ready to eat." Gwen put down the feather duster in her hand: "I've already cooked dinner."

As she spoke, Gwen stepped forward and helped Cao Gui take off his coat, but her expression changed when she saw a thin, transparent splint strapped to Cao Gui's left arm.

"Cao...?"

"There was a minor car accident," Cao Gui said with a grin.

Gwen wrinkled her little upturned nose, clearly somewhat disbelieving, but after thinking for a moment, she didn't press the matter further and pulled Cao Gui to the dining table.

"Honey, my hand is injured, so I can't eat," Cao Gui sighed, speaking apologetically.

Gwen glanced at his left hand, then smiled:

"It's okay, honey, I'll feed you."

……

Late at night, in the Los Angeles branch of S.H.I.E.L.D., Melinda's office was brightly lit, and three people were analyzing a document inside.

"Cao Gui, a high school student in Midtown Manhattan, whose father was an FBI agent who tragically died in the line of duty... How could this kid not have a hidden identity?"

Melinda frowned as she looked at the document. It looked perfectly normal, just like an ordinary person, completely unremarkable. The disguise was too perfect.

But the problem is, being too perfect is itself a flaw!

"Mei, have you ever considered that maybe this kid is just an ordinary student?"

A young man nearby couldn't help but say, "It's rare for someone to enter a bar and then leave alone, but it's not uncommon. What if something comes up unexpectedly?"

Melinda glared at the young man:

"Ward, you've become a Level 4 agent now. You need to be more vigilant!"

“But even if I analyze it according to the standards in the college textbooks, I can’t see anything wrong with this kid,” said Ward, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

"What do you mean there isn't?" Melinda said coldly, showing a spending record: "Look here, this is his spending record. This kid buys enough food every day to feed more than ten people."

"Also, he has too much savings. Even with the FBI's compensation, it shouldn't be this high. Someone is depositing money into his account every month, but I can't find this account!"

"Most importantly, the bar near the slaughterhouse has already declared bankruptcy and been demolished. Don't you think all of this is too much of a coincidence?"

Ward frowned slightly. Melinda was indeed a Level 5 agent; she had seen far more than he had. But the problem was... it didn't make sense!

These have absolutely nothing to do with extraterrestrial life or advanced technology.

"And most importantly, he sold a villa in Los Angeles for over a million dollars. Where did he get that money? He's a New Yorker, so why would he buy a house in Los Angeles?"

“Sir, you’re absolutely right.” Ward shrugged. “But this is a matter for the IRS and FBI, not aliens. Our Strategic Homeland Defense, Attack and Logistics Agency has no jurisdiction over this!”

“How do you know it’s okay?” Melinda said. “Can you explain why no one has come out of this bar in the twenty-four hours since he left?”

"Don't forget, this is a vampire bar! Do you think he could have gotten out of there unscathed without some serious skills?"

“Even if he has nothing to do with our targets, he must still report his capabilities and be subject to the supervision of our Strategic Homeland Defense, Attack and Logistics Administration. In fact, I have the right to arrest and kill him directly!”

"OK, OK," Ward said repeatedly. "You're the officer, I'll listen to you."

"So what do we do now? Infiltrate and investigate in disguise?"

"Idiot! We're S.H.I.E.L.D., why are you faking an investigation? Just summon him, imprison him, and interrogate him in the name of the FBI."

"Isn't that a bit too much?"

"We may be facing an unknown superhuman, whose fighting strength and abilities are unknown. We must be fully prepared!"

"Alright then, when do we take action?"

"Tomorrow, Linda. Contact the action team and tell them to be ready tomorrow morning," Melinda said to her assistant.

"Yes, sir."

"So eager?" Ward was somewhat surprised, then laughed, "May, are you already impatient to see your compatriots?"

Ward's words were originally just a joke, but upon hearing them, Melinda's face instantly darkened, and she said coldly:

“Ward, first of all, I am an American citizen, and secondly, I am a Catholic. It has nothing to do with them. I am an American citizen who has sworn an oath before the flag and the Bible. I don’t want you to make such silly jokes again.”

Ward was taken aback, stunned by Melinda's inexplicable anger, and subconsciously nodded.

“We’ll summon him first; if he doesn’t cooperate, then we can take action,” Melinda continued.

"Yes, sir."

……

The next morning, Cao Gui groggily opened her eyes; Gwen was sleeping in her arms.

Cao Gui gently pulled his arm out and positioned Gwen in a more comfortable position. Just as he was about to get out of bed, the alarm clock in his hand suddenly rang.

It's still Harry.

"Harry?"

“Cao, it’s me,” Harry said. “I have a banquet tonight, hosted by my father and me. Would you be interested in coming?”

"I also invited Lucy and Beth, and I'm planning to invite Gwen too."

"Oh...I see. I'll be there on time." Cao Gui rubbed his nose. "Gwen and I, uh...live together. I'll ask around for you in a bit."

“Okay, see you tonight…” Harry said, “Oh, by the way, where are you staying? I’ll have a costume designer make you evening gowns.”

"...Haha, no need, we can handle these ourselves." Cao Gui wiped away his cold sweat. The little green demon was really nice; he didn't have the capitalist's tendency to eat human bones and drink human blood at all.

"Okay, see you tonight." Harry hung up the phone.

Ding dong ding dong~~

Just then, the doorbell rang. Cao Gui frowned. "I don't know anyone in Los Angeles. Why would someone come to visit?"

Cao Gui was slightly startled. After getting dressed, he went outside, wanting to see who it could be.

Chapter 60: Facing S.H.I.E.L.D.!

At the door, Cao Gui opened the door and saw two people in uniform standing outside, a man and a woman. The woman was of Chinese descent, and the man was a young white man.

Not far from the two, there was a black van parked, perhaps their company car, or perhaps there were people inside.

Cao Gui frowned. He recognized the two people in front of him; they were from S.H.I.E.L.D.: Melinda and Ward.

Ward's background was similar to his; both were Hydra agents. However, one was a genuine Hydra heir who risked his life on the front lines every day, while the other had never been in contact with the organization and spent his days chasing girls and traveling.

The Chinese woman named Melinda was a "banana"—yellow on the outside, white on the inside. Cao Gui had no ill intentions towards her; after all, she was a foreign friend and had nothing to do with him. But... she was not only a "banana," but she also had a black hat, which was disgusting and nauseating.

Every time Cao Gui saw her, he felt like he had swallowed a fly and wanted to vomit.

Melinda's expression darkened slightly. She saw a fleeting look of disgust on Cao Gui's face, and a surge of anger rose within her.

She really hates this Chinese person!

"Gentlemen, what brings you here?" Cao Gui asked first, eager to get rid of the two men as quickly as possible.

“Oh, is that so, sir?” Ward adjusted his non-prescription glasses.

"We are the FBI. You are suspected of having a large amount of unexplained funds. We are summoning you in accordance with the law. Please cooperate and come with us."

Ward's words were so well-intentioned that if Cao Gui hadn't known these two were from S.H.I.E.L.D., he might have actually been fooled.

Cao Gui thought for a moment, realizing that one shouldn't hit a smiling face, especially one that was his adoptive father's colleague, and then said:

"I need to see your identification."

“Oh, okay…” Ward reached for his ID, but Melinda stopped him.

"I'm sorry, sir, this is not a summons, but an arrest warrant." Melinda took out a piece of paper and placed it in front of Cao Gui.

Cao Gui's face instantly darkened. He had originally intended to greet them with a smile, but he hadn't expected the other party to be so unreasonable!

Ward was stunned. According to the plan, it should have been a deception and a sneak attack, but why was it suddenly going to start? He had no idea beforehand!

The plans have changed!?

"Sir, please cooperate." Melinda took out a bright silver onesie bracelet.

Cao Gui was so angry that he laughed. Who gave her the guts!

"Okay, I'll cooperate!"

Cao Gui took off his bathrobe, revealing his well-built muscles, indicating that he had no weapon. Then he raised his hands, allowing Melinda to handcuff him.

Melinda was stunned. She never expected it to go so smoothly. To put it simply, she deliberately stirred up trouble!
