Night had fallen, and the room was pitch black because there were no lights, making it seem like a ferocious beast ready to devour its prey.
"What's wrong, Hitomi-chan?" An Shu asked, puzzled, as she watched the little girl hugging her tighter and tighter.
"Onii-chan, could you... could you sleep with me?"
"Huh? Why?" An Shu was taken aback.
"I...I'm scared...so, so..." the little girl stammered.
"It's okay, I'll be right outside. Get some rest, and get up early tomorrow!" He patted her head, as if to give her courage.
Although An Shu would never get angry, in the end, An Tong still didn't dare to ask him for help again.
An Shu had already clearly refused. She was afraid that if An Shu got angry and didn't want her anymore, then there would be no one in the world who would treat her well.
Summoning her courage, she entered the room, but felt increasingly aggrieved. She pulled at some of her new clothes, touched her still-damp hair, and felt the bandage around her eyes…
She was terrified, terrified that this was all a dream, that her doting brother was just a figment of her imagination, terrified that when she woke up she would be lying in a cold warehouse...
Before she could even utter a sound, tears were already streaming down her face. She closed the door, covered her mouth, and tried not to make a sound. The room was dark except for a sliver of light coming in from outside through the crack in the door frame.
"Waaah..." In the darkness, she knelt on the ground, covering her face with her hands, sobbing, her shoulders twitching slightly.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and the sunlight shone on her face. A gentle voice, tinged with a slight reproach, said, "Why does Hitomi-chan cry so much?"
A pair of large hands encircled her petite body, and An Shu gently coaxed, "Brother's here, Tong-chan, don't cry!"
"Can I sleep with Hitomi-chan tonight?"
Facing An Shu, the little girl was stunned for a moment, staring blankly at him, then hugged him tightly and said firmly, "Mmm!"
"Then let's go to sleep?"
He carried An Tong to the bed, found another blanket, and An Shu lay down next to her.
There was a faint scent of incense on the bed, so it must be a girl's room.
"Onii-chan...am I being selfish..." An Tong stammered, "We've only known each other for a day, yet I..."
An Shu didn't speak, but turned over and hugged An Tong from behind, gently pulling her into his arms. He put his right index finger to An Tong's lips, rested his head on An Tong's head, and rubbed his chin against the top of her head.
"Go to sleep!"
The voice was soft, seemingly a little tired, yet unexpectedly heartwarming. Like the even breathing beside her ear, it brushed against her earlobe, feeling slightly hot.
An Tong shifted restlessly a couple of times, as if wiping away tears again.
After wiping, she nodded emphatically, as if she had made up her mind, but she didn't say anything. She just curled up her small body, as if this would allow her to feel more comfortable in An Shu's warm embrace.
Whether by coincidence or not, the small ray of light coming through the crack in the door shone on her shallow dimples.
I love my older brother the most...

(It was still dark.)
"Hmm...hmm?"
Rubbing his eyes, An Shu looked at the little girl tiptoeing back into bed with a sleepy look in his eyes, and was a little puzzled.
Wait, a little girl? She seems to be a young child...
"I just went to take a shower. Did I wake you up, Onii-chan?" The little girl tugged at the hem of her clothes, looking down shyly.
An Shu came to her senses and said, "No, that's not true."
She gently lifted the corner of An Shu's blanket, slipped inside, and wrapped her arms around his waist, stammering, "My blanket is cold... so... brother, hold me to keep warm..."
Feeling cold? Looking at the little girl in her arms with her face flushed, An Shu couldn't help but smile.
He hugged her, smelling the faint scent of shower gel on her body, and pinched her little face: "You're afraid of the cold, yet you went to take a shower so early in the morning?"
"Didn't my brother say we should leave early today?" An Tong replied softly.
An Shu was stunned again, then shook her head: "You! Sleep in today."
"Um……"
…………
"Hitomi-chan, are you done? It's time to go."
"You're here." The little girl jumped down the stairs into An Shu's arms.
An Shu stumbled and almost lost her grip. She reached out and tapped her little head.
The little girl chuckled.
"Hmm? Footsteps?" Suddenly, An Shu frowned, took out two candies, gave one to An Tong, and put the other in her mouth.
"Onii-chan, what's wrong?"
"There were hurried footsteps coming this way."
"There are still people here?" The little girl tilted her head.
"It's a little girl, and it looks like she's being chased by something."
"Is...is it a cursed child?"
An Shu closed her eyes, then opened them again. "No, it's not."
A moment of silence.
After ruffling the little girl's hair, An Shu broke the ice, "Well, let's go take a look."
"Um……"
…………
In the alley.
"Huff, huff—" Sima Weizhi leaned against the wall, panting heavily. "Father, hold on, I'll find someone to rescue you right away."
He tried to cheer himself up, but a bitter feeling began to creep into his heart.
We're still a long way from the Self-Defense Forces here. I don't know if my father can hold on until then.
Swallowing hard, Sima Weizhi turned around, ready to continue running, when suddenly, with a thud, before she could even see what was in front of her, she bumped into something and fell to the ground.
"Ouch—" Two screams rang out.
An Shu went over and hugged the little girl who was rubbing her head, finding it somewhat amusing, "Are you alright?"
He gently touched the spot where An Tong had been bumped, easing her pain.
"Onii-chan..." An Tong looked at him with a wronged expression.
Sima Weizhi, who was on the ground, also stood up. Looking at the two strange people in front of her, she noticed the bandage on An Tong's head. What happened to her eyes?
I shook my head. No, now is not the time to think about this.
"Please, please save my father," she pleaded.
Sima Weizhi didn't know why she had to ask them for help. She only felt that the unbelievably handsome man had a strange aura that was impossible to ignore yet impossible to describe, but she couldn't sense any malice from him.
Looking at the little girl in the kimono in front of her, An Shu was a little puzzled and subconsciously asked, "What's wrong?"
"We've been attacked by a Gastrea with a regeneration level of two. Flower bullets are ineffective against it. Please, please save my father!" He spoke rapidly, almost making An Shu miss his words.
An Shu frowned, looking at the mole at the corner of her left eye and her clothes, feeling that she looked somewhat familiar, and asked, "Sima Weizhi?"
"You know me?" Sima Weizhi was certain that she had never seen him before.
An Shu didn't answer her, but asked again, "Why are you here?"
"As you can see, I am the eldest daughter of Sima Heavy Industry. Sima Heavy Industry manufactures survival weapons, and we have received an order from the frontline self-defense force."
But no one dared to go to the front lines; there weren't enough people. Because this order was so important, my father and I transported weapons together. However, we were attacked by Gastrea that had leaked in, and then…”
"call out--"
Before she could finish speaking, she was interrupted by a shriek coming from not far away.
"Father--"
Sima Weizhi, who had been stunned, immediately came to her senses, shouted, and turned to run back the way she came.
"Onii-chan... Shall we go take a look?" An Tong tugged at his sleeve.
"Hmm." After confirming that An Tong could no longer feel pain where she had been hit, he picked up the little girl, caught up with Sima Weizhi, and grabbed her collar. "Which direction are you going?"
Sima Weizhi paused for a moment, then shook her head to clear her mind, and pointed to the other end of the street, "Over there!"
An Shu took a step forward, and in a flash, she arrived at her destination.
"Cough cough cough." An Shu coughed again.
"This is it, Father, where is Father? Father!" Sima Weizhi was stunned when she noticed the situation around her, but the safety of her father made her suppress her doubts. She broke free from An Shu's hand and shouted loudly to the surroundings.
There were only vehicles transporting weapons and bullet casings and bloodstains on the ground, some bright red and some dark purple, but no one in sight.
"Uh...uh...is Wei Zhi back? Quick, run!" A middle-aged man appeared in the window of a small building nearby. He stumbled and suddenly rolled out of the window.
"Father!" Sima Weizhi didn't hear his words clearly, shouted, and tried to rush over.
An Shu grabbed her collar and gave her a questioning look. An Shu didn't answer, but shook her head.
Sima Weizhi didn't understand the meaning of shaking her head. She swayed her body from side to side and said, "Put me down! I want to go find my father!"
"Look at that?" An Shu didn't let go of her, but his tone was somewhat low.
Sima Weizhi turned her head to look, but because of the dust and smoke kicked up by the middle-aged man falling to the ground, all she could see were two red lights.
Sima Weizhi was stunned. As the smoke and dust gradually dissipated, the figure of the middle-aged man was revealed—it was his eyes!
"Father!" Sima Weizhi cried out in anguish, tears already streaming down her face. "Father, Father!"
An Tong shrank back into An Shu's arms in fear.
"Weizhi, Weizhi, listen... cough, vomit..." The middle-aged man began to vomit blood. "Listen to me, I'll tell you, the others have already been eaten, and I've been infected too. Get out of here, quick! Ugh..."
Immediately, he mustered his strength and barely managed to lift his head to say to An Shu, "Young man, ugh... young man, I don't know who you are, but you... you're willing to come back with Wei Zhi, so I know... I know you're not... not a bad person..."
Please take good care of Weizhi. Besides me, Weizhi has no family left. I am the chairman of Sima Heavy Industry. I… ugh… I've been in this industry for a long time, and I always knew that something unexpected would happen…
