"When did you become a salesman?" Diana smiled at Thor, who was dressed in a black suit. "To be honest, this outfit doesn't suit you."
Thor shrugged indifferently: "What can I do? It's my work uniform."
"Work uniform?" Diana scrutinized Thor closely.
“That’s right, that Homeland Security Bureau recruited me. They said they recruited me because they thought I was stronger than you.” Thor circled around in front of Diana. “I think it’s pretty good.”
"So, you have a mission now, right?" Diana's tone became unusually calm.
"Ah! Right, right." Thor quickly pulled out a cell phone and handed it to Diana. "This is from Nick Fury. He said he wanted to talk to you about something?"
Diana had just taken the phone from Thor when a call came in.
"They came really fast."
Diana pressed the answer button as she spoke.
“Diana…” Nick Fury was interrupted by Diana before he could finish speaking.
"Do you think Odin would rip your heads off if he knew that his own crown prince was serving as these shady insects for you?" Diana said, glancing at Thor.
Thor could only awkwardly touch his nose.
"This isn't about Thor. Do you even know who that mutant you took in is?"
“What are you trying to say? She’s one of yours too?” Diana said sarcastically.
“No, Diana. She’s a target of the military, and I’ve received intelligence that the military is going to take action…” Nick Fury said calmly.
“Alright, Nick Fury. This isn’t over yet. I still have some Hand fingers to deal with. I cut one off, and there are still two pairs left.” Diana finished speaking and crushed her phone, throwing the shards to Thor.
"This was the latest model inside!" Thor felt a pang of heartache. It was something really good, like glass. And Diana had ruined it.
“You’ve really tarnished Odin’s reputation,” Diana said, looking at Thor with disdain.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is also capable of getting Thor to give them missions in less than a month.
“No way, I’m S.H.I.E.L.D.’s advisor on Protoss issues, okay?” Thor retorted. “Any god in Midgard has to go through me.”
"Heh." Diana looked at Thor without saying a word, only letting out a cold laugh.
Thor then realized that the only gods on Midgard were himself and Diana. Looking at Diana, he realized he really couldn't control what she was up to, as there was a high chance he couldn't defeat her, especially since Mjolnir was still in her hands.
“Um…” Thor scratched his head.
"Speak." Diana had a feeling that Thor had been switched with someone else, otherwise, was this hesitant behavior really that of the megalomaniac?
"Can you give me Mjolnir?"
Diana smiled and said, "Think carefully about why you asked me for Mjolnir. If it's just for your little vanity, then forget it. Your father sent you on this trial, not for you to enjoy the cheers."
Diana closed the door after speaking, leaving Thor with a flushed face.
Thor reached out as if to knock on the door, but ultimately withdrew his hand and left.
"The hunting team is ready and can depart at any time," Bronsky said to General Ross at a military base. Behind him stood a fully armed eight-man squad, heads held high.
General Ross surveyed the squad before speaking.
"Operation begins."
Chapter 27 Hunting? Counter-hunting!
Back inside, Diana was even more certain of her earlier suspicions.
Emma, the fact that such a powerful mutant could be chased into such a sorry state is enough to prove that there must be a powerful organization supporting him behind the scenes.
The appearance of S.H.I.E.L.D. this time indirectly proves that they are also interested in Emma, but the organization that is most interested in the White Queen is actually the U.S. military.
“Things seem to be getting interesting.” Diana’s eyes revealed a hint of excitement. Since Nick Fury had said that the military would take action, those people would definitely come back.
Why protect Emma? Diana didn't know, but she knew very well that the military didn't want Emma to protect her. For example, how did they get what they saw on the Kree cruiser?
But what does this have to do with her wanting to protect a little girl?
Diana showed no nervousness about making enemies of the military; she simply smiled silently.
A golden bow slowly appeared in her hand. Since coming to this world, she had discovered that she could reproduce many weapons in her hands in a special way.
And this bow is the hunting bow that was once used, the golden bow from the goddess of the hunt.
"Now let me see how you're going to do it." Diana, dressed in loose-fitting loungewear, carried her golden bow and walked step by step onto the rooftop.
Diana stood on the rooftop of the small building, the bright moonlight flowing over her body, making her look like a delicate jade sculpture.
Looking into the distance, a small team slowly emerged from the sewer opening about 500 meters from his home. It has to be said that General Ross actually came up with such a tactic in order to avoid any conflict with S.H.I.E.L.D.
After all, you can't exactly plant a few agents in the sewers.
As for why they were so far from Diana's house, it can only be said that for a mutant, sometimes being too close is not helpful, especially since they have special equipment that doesn't require them to be too close to mutants.
To this small team, Diana simply drew her golden bow, and an arrow full of ancient charm appeared out of thin air on the bow.
"bass!"
The sound of an arrow tearing through the air echoed in their ears, and the next moment the arrow was already embedded in the team's only path.
Bronsky looked at the arrow with a strange expression. Modern firearms are the way to go, yet someone was still using this outdated thing that had been obsolete for who knows how many years.
Moreover, this is a provocation against them.
“It seems someone is trying to stop us,” Bronsky said to his adjutant.
The adjutant sneered, "What can stop them? Bows and arrows? I'll show them that this is no longer an era where things that should be in museums can win."
Bronsky was pleased with his adjutant's attitude: "You all have suppressors that can subdue mutants within 300 meters. Now, let them know what a hunting squad is all about! I won't interfere with you too much from now on. You are the best soldiers; you should know what to do!"
"Sir, requesting a power outage for this block!" Bronsky said into the microphone.
There was no reply; the street, which had been illuminated by the streetlights, was plunged into darkness.
No one thought the sudden power outage was a problem; after all, it wasn't uncommon. For soldiers like Bronsky, this kind of environment was perfect, while the archer was probably out of options.
With a wave of Bronsky's hand, the hunting party dispersed and disappeared into the thick darkness. Only the occasional slivers of moonlight filtering through the buildings revealed a fleeting black shadow.
Diana never expected that her arrow, which she used to dissuade them, would ignite their fighting spirit, even to the point of them splitting up.
Even with the power cut off, the darkness did not bother Diana in the slightest.
With their eyes, they could clearly see the movement patterns and body language of each member of the squad in the darkness, and even the patterns on their armbands.
“Artemis?” Diana saw the simple design on the armband, but it was clearly the image of the goddess of the hunt.
So, this small team is hunting?
"The hunter?" Diana drew her bow and fired another arrow, aiming straight for Bronsky's feet.
This is the final warning. If you remain obstinate, then we'll see who the real hunter is.
The arrow, deeply embedded in the ground, made Bronsky raise an eyebrow; such force was not something a normal human could produce.
"Attention everyone, we have likely encountered another mutant with enhanced strength and vision. Attention all, find it and kill it."
Bronsky spoke to Mai, then moved quickly through the block, heading towards Diana's house.
Seeing that the squad showed no sign of retreating, Diana gave up on forcing them away. Sometimes, it takes gradually destroying their remaining sanity to achieve a lasting victory.
"Then let's begin."
This time, Diana drew her bow and arrow, not at the guy who was clearly the commander, but at a guy who had climbed up to the roof using the fire escape ladder.
It seems he's the sniper in the hunting team.
"I see that mutant!" The sniper spotted Diana almost effortlessly, standing on the rooftop and aiming his bow at her from afar.
“Where?” Bronsky asked.
But no one could answer his question.
An arrow ripped the poor sniper in two, like a hot dog falling to the ground.
"Shit!" Bronsky growled. "Everyone, be on high alert, avoid exposing our position."
As the entire hunting party began frantically searching for cover, another arrow pierced the chest of a party member.
The team member was not far from Bronsky. Through the night vision goggles, he could clearly see that the arrow looked like a large-caliber anti-materiel sniper rifle, directly blowing the torso of that team member to pieces.
"A generous gift crab!!" Bronsky could even feel something flying onto his face! Without even thinking, it was that person's flesh and blood.
"Let's retreat!" the adjutant said to Bronsky through the microphone. There was no other way; only Bronsky had the authority to evacuate them from the battlefield.
That's right, this is no longer their hunting ground; this is the real battlefield.
Or rather, it was the mutants' hunting ground.
That remaining distance of less than four hundred meters had become an insurmountable minefield.
"Give the order, Commander..." Before the adjutant could finish speaking, Bronsky heard the sound of flesh being torn apart.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!" Bronsky couldn't take it anymore. As a veteran with virtually no defeats, when had he ever retreated without even seeing the enemy?!
He ripped off his helmet, put down his rifle, and walked to an open spot a short distance away, shouting, "Come out! I know you can see me! You cowardly rat, come out!"
Bronsky didn't care at all whether it would expose the military's operation; all he wanted now was to see that damn mutant beast and kill it.
“Blonsky, are you crazy?” General Ross’s voice came through the headset, clearly provoked by Blonsky’s impulsive behavior.
Bronsky paid no attention to General Ross's words and instead ripped off his headset.
"bass!"
An arrow grazed Bronsky's left cheek, taking away half of his face.
The disfigurement of his left cheek completely ignited Bronsky's ferocity: "You damn mutant beast, come out here!"
At that moment, a member of the squad raised the stun gun that was originally intended for the mutant and struck Bronsky, who was acting like a madman. They quickly went out, grabbed Bronsky's bulletproof vest, and dragged him away.
The hunting team, having lost three members, had no choice but to leave the hunting grounds immediately.
Diana simply watched the squad leave indifferently, the golden bow in her hand slowly disappearing as she turned and went downstairs.
The six projectiles fired from afar slowly disappeared under the cover of night.
As for the body? Someone will take care of it.
S.H.I.E.L.D.! They're here to defend themselves!
