Li Mingliang's family buried their son and returned home, only to find him dead; they were not allowed to participate in the sea god worship ceremony; and they were subjected to so many villagers pointing fingers and making sarcastic remarks, which Wang Siya found infuriating.

She scooped a ladle of cold water from the water vat, took a few sips, and muttered, "You heartless bastards! My eldest grandson is gone, I'll make you all go down with him! I'll burn their house down first, then prepare gasoline and burn them all to death in the Sea God Temple!"

Wang Siya went to the east wing to get gasoline, but died from poisoning while standing on a stool after being doused in gasoline.

Li Mingliang and his wife couldn't hear anything. They cried until their voices were hoarse and lost in thought. They picked up the tea on the table, took a couple of sips, and then died in the house.

"Retribution! Retribution!" The widowed grandmother walked along, looking at the corpses that had been poisoned lying haphazardly, a smile appearing on her aged face.

She walked into Wangzi's house, looked at the old lady who was paralyzed in bed watching TV, and shook the hemp rope in her hand. "Back then, I almost escaped my suffering, all because of you!"

I just graduated from university, and I had a bright future ahead of me!

I have loving parents and a brother at home, and I've been assigned a job and will be working at a research institute soon!

What did I do wrong?

I was just going to the market to buy groceries so I could cook a meal for my family.

Seeing the pitiful old lady who had fallen, they offered her a hand to take her home. However, when they got to the alley, someone put a sack over her head, knocked her unconscious, and sold her here!

Do you know how I've gotten through these years?

As the widowed grandmother spoke, she tightened the hemp rope in her hand, saying, "Xiangping helped me find news of my family."

My perfectly healthy daughter disappeared, and my parents were so devastated by the inability to find her that they passed away a few years later!

My brother lost his good job and died young without even getting married while searching for me.

The house was sold, the savings were gone, and the happy family was ultimately destroyed!

I almost escaped back then, and my parents wouldn't have died of illness, and my brother wouldn't have wasted half his life! It's all because of you. No matter how much I begged and kowtowed until my forehead bled, it was no use. You still called people to arrest me!

Over the years, I have taken revenge on them one by one and tormented them.

I strive to live and exercise to keep myself strong and healthy, so that one day I can personally avenge my enemies!

There isn't a single innocent person on this island; you all deserve to die!

The paralyzed old woman struggled for a moment before being strangled to death; the widowed grandmother only let go when her neck was almost broken.

Having avenged her great grudge, the widowed grandmother, who had nowhere else to go, returned to her small mud-brick house, took out the burial clothes she had prepared beforehand, changed into them, lay on the bed, and put a "candy bean" in her mouth.

The entire village is dead.

The scarred woman wandered through the village like a ghost. She ran to Li Shuaishuai's grave, dug up his body, carried it to the Sea God Temple which opened its doors for cleaning once a year, and hung it on the roof beam with a hemp rope.

The body was blown by the sea breeze and hung in front of the righteous-looking sea god statue. The scarred woman wiped the pitted scars on her face and cried. After returning home, she hanged herself from the roof beam of Li Dahan's house.

At this point, all 132 people from 21 households on the deserted island had perished.

The four sat in the living room of the beach hut, no one spoke; the little white cats all lay on their hosts' shoulders, sighing deeply.

Just like the widowed grandmother said, there are no innocent people on this island.

Regardless of whether it's the villagers who would abandon their conscience and hunt down Shi Xiaotong for a few coins;

It is still those generations who clearly received the teachings and kindness of the widowed grandmother, yet no one offered them a helping hand.

As darkness fell, the beach huts were automatically illuminated with a soft glow.

"Let's go, get some rest." Song Gang broke the silence first. "Fortunately, we should be able to escape this dungeon tomorrow. This newbie dungeon is fucking awful!"

Liang Rumeng looked at the empty room and sighed heavily.

Three grown men slept in one room, and nothing was said that night.

After finishing their preparations early in the morning, the four of them greeted the village chief and headed straight for the open space.

“You gathered all the intelligence, and you discovered the source. Go ahead.” Duan Chengze gestured for Jiang Chen to take the antique bottle away, while he walked over to Li Dahan and Zhang Qiang, who were sitting on the earthen embankment smoking and chatting. “We’ll cover for you.”

The little white cat wagged its tail and volunteered, "Host, let me help you!"

After receiving permission, it hopped over and put the pretty bottle buried in the soil into its space.

Upon seeing the tourists approach, Zhang Qiang greeted them warmly, "How did you sleep last night? Isn't the environment on our island nice? You can help us promote it when you get back, as fewer and fewer people are coming to the island these days."

Isn't this where they're preparing to build an amusement park?

"Come back in a few months, it'll definitely be more fun..."

Duan Chengze, Song Gang, and Liang Rumeng chatted casually, completely blocking the two people's view.

Jiang Chen walked around the earthen hill and called out, "Let's go take a look over there!"

After finishing their cigarettes, the two men picked up their shovels and chatted idly as they continued working.

The widowed grandmother walked briskly along the path from the village to the nursing home. She peered through the large iron gate for a moment, her eyes filled with deep longing, and she murmured something to herself.

Li Shuaishuai ran out the back door, greeted the two people leveling the ground in the open space, and ran along the narrow path to the woods behind the nursing home to find the widowed grandmother and listen to her stories.

A group of children were clamoring for ghost stories. The old woman looked at Li Shuaishuai and nodded in agreement, her voice becoming somber, "On our island, there's a wandering, lonely ghost. She suffered a terrible injustice, with nowhere to seek justice..."

The scarred woman was taken home by Aunt Ji and locked in the house;

Aunt Ji called out to the neighbors to go to the big square to busy themselves preparing for the banquet; the children who had heard the story ran and shouted to the square to watch the show;

Li Mingliang and his wife, dressed smartly and looking disdainful, sat under the stage, cracking melon seeds and bragging.

The village chief arranged the sacrificial rites, beaming with joy as he watched the island filled with singing and dancing.

Zhang Qiang's wife chatted and laughed as she served tea and water;

Wang Dayou was busy with the sacrificial ceremony, and the two didn't even exchange glances.

The lively banquet continued as villagers ate and drank, toasting and chatting; children clamored for drinks; and villagers praised the village chief's homemade wine. The festivities continued until the main event took place in the afternoon.

We offer sacrifices to the sea god, praying for favorable weather, peace, and tranquility for the island.

We worship the sea god to bless everyone in the village with good health, longevity, and protection from evil spirits.

The whole village was overjoyed. After worshipping the sea god, they continued to watch operas and eat a continuous feast, and held a bonfire party in the evening.

Jiang Chen and his group of four watched from afar until the bells of the clock tower rang twelve times.

The bustling square suddenly fell silent and dark.

A figure walked out from the black silhouette in the distance. She was tall and graceful, and just by looking at her, you could tell she must be a gentle and beautiful woman.

The scarred woman walked over; her disfigured face was pitted and scarred, a truly horrifying sight.

“Li Xiangping.” Jiang Chen saw her standing not far away and asked, “What exactly is the purpose of hanging Li Shuaishuai’s body in the Sea God Temple?”

Her voice was hoarse and aged, making it impossible to tell if she was male or female. "Since ancient times, the sea god on the island has always played the role of blessing and judgment."

The village elders say that hanging oneself at the Sea God Temple is a grave injustice.

The souls will be condemned to eternal damnation, and in return, the sea god will unleash a calamity, bringing storms and torrential rains powerful enough to destroy the entire island.

Song Gang was clearly frightened and took two steps back.

Li Xiangping spoke in a hoarse voice, her tone so calm it was almost frightening: "I was born on this island, and I lost my father when I was young."

My mother doted on my older brother and even wanted to sell me, at the age of fifteen, to a bachelor in the village so that my brother could buy a wife to carry on the family line.

I refused to accept my fate and followed a fishing boat to a city outside the city.

At fifteen, with no education and no experience, I had a very difficult time.

I started by collecting scraps, washing dishes, and serving food. Gradually, I was able to support myself and even taught myself some literacy.

I met my ex-husband when I was nineteen.

He is a very good person, and his family is very good too.

We got married when we were twenty.

After learning about my experience, he advised me to let go of my hatred. He said that my mother sold me because the family was too poor and had no other choice, and that if I used love to influence her, she would treat me very well.

In order to reclaim that bit of family affection, I took my husband back to the island.

Knowing that I had married into a good family, they indeed treated me with utmost care and affection, and I thought that was maternal love and kinship!

In return, my husband and I planned to develop the island into a tourist attraction, which improved the lives of the villagers. We also built a nursing home for the village, allowing the elderly living alone to enjoy their later years in peace.

I also help women in the village who were trafficked to find their families. Although most of them don't have good news, one or two of them are always able to reunite with their families.

I brought my mother and brother to the big city, giving them stable housing and financial support.

Little did they know that this would be the beginning of a disaster.

At first, they were well-behaved and treated me very well. But gradually, as they saw more of the world, they became more ambitious and began to reveal their greedy nature. They kept asking me for money, and even resorted to crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide to coerce me.

My ex-husband's family and work are all in the local area, so they can't escape even if they want to.

Unable to bear it any longer, I filed for divorce.

Thinking that at least I could ensure my ex-husband's family could live a peaceful life, I decided to bear my own sins.

When we divorced, my ex-husband gave me a large sum of money.

A villa, millions in savings, and all the income from island tourism.

He felt that this would make my life better.

Unexpectedly…

Touched by her inner pain, Li Xiangping's voice choked with sobs, "A mother and son, like jackals, have their eyes on my property. They colluded with the village chief's family and falsely accused me of having a mental illness!"

When the people from the mental hospital came to the island to arrest me, everyone I had ever helped watched indifferently.

Only my elderly teacher offered me a helping hand.

She dug a hole near the nursing home and let me hide there, bringing me food and drink every day.

But the village chief offered a reward: anyone who catches me will receive a sum of money!

The entire village searched high and low, and finally a child found him. That child had been sickly, and it was I who sponsored him to have surgery at a major hospital and recover!

But when he pointed out where I was hiding, I could see a greedy glint in his eyes.

Everyone on this island is rotten to the core!

I was forcibly detained in a mental hospital, and all my property was taken away by Li Mingliang.

The village chief runs the tourism projects on the island and takes the lion's share; Li Mingliang takes a smaller share, and the rest is distributed to the villagers as dividends at the end of the year.

They profited from human suffering and lived a good life!
