Ark Undead

124. Sarkaz, the Angel
The journey to Longmen was peaceful and simple.
Texas and Exusiai mostly handle large orders, many of which involve foreign countries.
So it's become the norm for them to be out and about, there's nothing more to say about it.
Wherever we go, the necessary documents and customs clearance files have already been prepared by Penguin Logistics.
The Undead and Ceobe didn't even need to lift a finger; they could just wait for Exusiai and Texas to handle it.
They were also very efficient. Whenever they arrived at a new place, they would first deal with the documents, and then ask the Undead and Kroos if they wanted to go out for a walk.
After all, it was done through normal channels, so no one died and no extra money was charged for the Xisha Islands.
In an emergency where additional funds are allocated, they might travel day and night along unpaved roads. While this shortens the travel time, safety cannot be guaranteed.
The idea behind the Undying Man was that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, reaching Longmen in about a month would be considered a success.
Keep in mind that it took him two months to walk from Kazimierz to Shelag, and about two months to walk from Shelag to Victoria.
This time, half of the known world of Terra was traversed in just one month, which is quite fast.
You may encounter some unusual situations from time to time on the road.
For example, Originium Beasts that seem to appear out of nowhere might surround their vehicles or make noise near their tents.
I've seen plenty of Texas cars. If I were driving, I'd just ram them head-on to avoid them following me and posing a threat.
If they set up camp, they would be able to handle the Undead. He took off the greatsword from his back and could cleave the Originium Beast in two with a single strike, causing Texas and Exusiai to involuntarily take a half-step back.
Throughout the journey, Exusiai never stopped talking, either asking how the Undead trained or asking if the Undead could take off their helmets so they could see what the Undead actually looked like.
Upon hearing this topic, even the drowsy Ceobe would perk up, prick up her ears, and join Exusiai's camp.
This is truly a fascinating topic. Having spent so much time with the undead, I've never actually seen their faces in their entirety.
The Undying Man has been avoiding the question. Although his appearance and mental state have recovered to some extent, habits are habits. Besides, his appearance is still somewhat frightening.
With withered skin and sunken eye sockets, even if it wasn't as bad as a corpse, it still looked like someone who was weak and sickly.
It's better not to watch it at all!
Exusiai would joke about this with the Undead, and she could tell that the Undead didn't want to take off his helmet. So most of the time, when she asked, it was just a casual remark, using the topic to bring up other things.
How long has the Undead lived? Of course, it was obvious that he didn't dislike this lively girl, so he let her talk to him, which relieved the boredom of the journey.
More than twenty days passed in the blink of an eye. When the group set off from the border town, the next city was Longmen.
Although the immortals didn't say much along the way, they demonstrated their value through their actions.
Even though it was just a gift, the Undead insisted on keeping watch by the campfire every night. At first, Texas and Exusiai were a little worried, but later they would occasionally see several Originium Beast corpses placed next to the campfire when they woke up in the morning.
Over time, I got used to it and expressed my gratitude to the boss who took the initiative to take on the night watch duty.
The worst thing for those of them who run delivery orders is that their bosses are incompetent yet give them bad orders and don't listen to instructions.
It's good that no one dies; they keep watch at night and stay quiet, being incredibly well-behaved.
Exusiai and Texas felt that this order wasn't Penguin Logistics delivering people, but rather the Undead delivering Penguin Logistics.
"Let me see, how far are we from Dragon Gate..."
Exusiai was about to take out the map to see how long it would take them to reach Lungmen.
Texas, standing nearby, didn't even need to look before speaking.
"It will take as little as ten days, or as long as fifteen."
Wow! Texas, you're amazing! You even know that?!
Exusiai shouted loudly twice, then looked at Texas with a smile.
Texas didn't take it to heart. Exusiai just wasn't very attentive to these kinds of things. Even though the two of them had spent quite a bit of time running this route, they should have a general idea of what was going on by now.
"Eat less sweets, and you might remember more."
Texas casually retorted to Exusiai, rolled her eyes, then started the engine and drove the car out of the small shop where everyone was temporarily staying.
Exusiai just stood there chuckling to herself without saying a word.
Kroos leaned listlessly against the Undead's shoulder.
She just lacks energy. Normally, this time of day would be when she goes to visit Hannah and watch TV with her, but for the past twenty-odd days, she has only been sitting in the car.
The blond, silly dog also has a lively personality, which is exactly the same as Exusiai's. The two often go out to play together after setting up camp.
Usually, Exusiai holds a frisbee that she somehow got her hands on, throws it out, and then Ceobe runs over to pick it up.
Logically, Ceobe should be the one to fly the frisbee back, but she always insists on handing it to Exusiai herself.
Exusiai was too lazy to move, so she simply waited for Ceobe to bring the frisbee back before flying it out again.
Watching the blonde girl chase after the frisbee, Exusiai's mood inexplicably improved.
Before long, the four of them somehow became friends with a decent relationship.
However, we're just friends.
Exusiai and Texas are still quite xenophobic. Although Exusiai seems like a carefree and optimistic person, she definitely has something on her mind.
The Undead had never heard her mention anything about herself, only that she liked to eat something called "Apu Lu Pie".
I later learned from Texas that Apuru Pie is just apple pie. But Exusiai just happens to like calling it Apuru Pie, I don't know who she learned it from.
The Undead have sometimes asked questions about the Sarkaz.
Because the halo around their heads is so reminiscent of something I've seen before.
The Undead can always think of a particular religious sect.
With the precedents of Sherag and Victoria, the Undead are now very attentive to anything that triggers their memories.
However, Exusiai doesn't seem to have much interest in the Sarkaz race. Whenever she talks about this with the Undead, she usually quickly changes the subject to other things.
The Undead could tell that Exusiai didn't want to talk too much about Sarkaz.
One day after setting up camp, while Exusiai and Ceobe were playing frisbee, Texas came over and privately explained the issue to the Undead.
"Exusiai may seem carefree, but she does have things she cares about. She is Sarkaz and cares a lot about Sarkaz. But for certain special reasons, she is reluctant to talk about herself with others."
Texas's voice was soft and cold, but since she was willing to talk to the undead in private, she was certainly not as heartless as she seemed.
"If you only ask her questions about Lateran, she certainly won't shy away from them. On the contrary, she's very willing to share her homeland with people."
The Undead nodded, then looked into the distance at Exusiai, who had a glittering halo above her head, and fell into thought.
Texas is an excellent observer, and she could certainly notice the undead's interest in the Sarkaz race.
Out of curiosity, she couldn't help but ask.
"Is there a problem? About Sakota?"
Yes, there is a problem.
The immortal nodded and asked.
"Sarkota, do you have faith?"
"Yes, Sakorta has his own beliefs."
Texas took the Undead's story as hearsay, since it wasn't exactly a secret.
"The Sarkaz are called angels, and they are characterized by having halos and wings."
"wing?"
The Undead looked at Exusiai in the distance with a puzzled expression.
Exusiai doesn't have wings on her back right now...
"Under normal circumstances, it will not affect their lives. However, if a battle occurs, or if they experience strong emotional fluctuations, they will unfold wings of light behind them, revealing their true form."
Texas explained to the undead.
"However, the halo above their heads can never be obscured. It is their greatest proof as the angel race, the Sarkaz."
At this point, Texas refused to speak any further.
These are facts that anyone with a little interest can find out. For more in-depth questions, the immortals themselves must investigate.
That's a matter for the Sarkaz people, it has nothing to do with her, Ruper.
"Yes, thank you."
Now that this was confirmed, the immortals' thinking began to diverge.
Sarkaz claims to be an angel, but is it really true that angels are hard to defeat?
In his memory, in the previous generations, there was a faction that paid special attention to angels, and even developed angels with wings.
Even those angels are nothing more than angels with wings, quite different from the holiness many people imagine.
In the immortals' own thinking, many things from past generations can be corroborated by what they know now.
Does this mean that the entire continent of Terra was built on the ruins of the Age of Fire?
So why are these traces so subtle that even races and forms of power have diverged?
Add to that the Originium, filled with a profound and dark essence, and the omnipresent abyss.
This left the immortals puzzled.
Is this really the deep-sea era?
If what he heard before he left, what the Fire Keeper said—that a fire would be lit far in the future—was true.
Is this spark the primordial flame preserved within one's own body, or a flame born in this generation?
Seeing that the Undead was deep in thought, Texas didn't want to disturb him and quietly left.
This knight was quite to her liking; he was a man of few words and wouldn't do anything outrageous.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have taken the initiative to come and explain to the Undead, worried about ruining everyone's relationship.
"Little Ke is amazing! Come on, let's do it again!"
