Ark Undead

Then he reached out his hand to Amiya.

Amiya obediently hugged the Doctor's arm and stood up.

She was really tired, so tired that she wanted to lean completely on the doctor and didn't want to move at all.

Amiya hadn't paid much attention to these kinds of documents concerning Rhodes Island's operations before.

It's only been a few days, and I already find it hard to adapt.

So Dr. Kal'tsit is truly amazing, maintaining such a high-pressure work environment all by herself.

The two walked out of the command room like a father and daughter and headed towards the staff dormitory area.

To get from the command center to the dormitory area, one has to walk across the deck and the commercial street.

There was no one outside, but Rhodes Island's infrastructure maintained a minimum level of energy consumption, providing light for the path ahead of the two.

"Doctor, I received Miss Dobermann's routine communication yesterday."

Amiya said casually.

"She said that Mr. Undead, Miss Melantha, and Miss Finn all successfully passed the first round of the Undead Arena team competition."

"Good thing."

The doctor gave a brief response, seemingly somewhat distracted.

"Yes, I also think it's a good thing. This Minos event is clearly sending a friendly signal to the outside world. As a bridge between us and Minos, Miss Vulcan might actually be able to help our Minos operators get a better working environment."

Amiya was clearly still immersed in her work, her mind filled with thoughts of Rhodes Island.

In fact, Yato, Dobermann, and Vulcan represented Rhodes Island in Minos. They certainly weren't just bringing the reserve team children to the competition.

If it were just for a competition, Dobermann and Yato would leave Rhodes Island just before they were about to make contact with Victoria.

Kal'tsit would absolutely disagree, and the Doctor would also shake his head.

The Minoan people are an open, free, and very passionate country.

The Temple of Heroes also maintains a neutral stance towards Rhodes Island. If they could send some people to Minos's side, it would be a good thing regardless.

"However, it's been a long time since I've seen Mr. Undead... It feels like Mr. Undead is about to become a field operator."

Amiya didn't feel any affection for the Undead that went beyond that of a comrade. But she did consider him a good person she could rely on.

"Doctor, do you know Mr. Undead?"

"Of course I know him."

The doctor looked at Amiya with curiosity.

Amiya's eyes were almost closed; she asked the question completely unconsciously.

The doctor subconsciously lowered his voice even further.

Why did you ask that question?

"Because... Doctor seems to have been very familiar with Mr. Undead from the very beginning."

Amiya muttered to herself, clinging completely to the Doctor.

The doctor even had to reach out a hand to lift Amiya up and continue walking forward.

"It was when we were in the sarcophagus... I don't remember, Amiya. But I do remember, Mr. Undead."

The doctor really wants to say that the way you're talking now is quite like an immortal.

"Amiya was so sad back then."

Unconsciously, Amiya revealed her true feelings.

The doctor remained silent. He loosened his grip on Maria's arm a little more and found a way that might be more comfortable for Amiya, carrying her along.

Amiya is a strong child.

She tends to keep these questions to herself, and everyone admires how outstanding she is. She also takes her peers' praise and expectations as motivation to move forward.

However, even the strongest person will eventually break down.

Only Amiya, who completely trusts the Doctor, would say these things to him in a daze after letting her guard down.

Before they knew it, the two had reached the elevator.

After pressing the button, the doctor crouched down, guided Amiya to lean against his back, and then gently carried Amiya on his back.

Amiya leaned against the Doctor's back, her face resting on his shoulder, her mouth slightly elongated, and her two long ears drooping down from his shoulder, making her look exceptionally cute.

"Doctor... Amiya is so sleepy..."

"Go to sleep."

"Doctor, aren't you sleepy?"

"I drank the 'Rationality Potion' earlier, so I'm not sleepy for now."

The doctor responded softly.

Amiya seemed to hear the response, she gave a soft "oh" and then simply started purring softly on the Doctor's back.

Amiya didn't say another word until the doctor escorted her to the staff dormitory.

She quickly nodded to the operator on duty, signaling her not to make a sound and disturb Amiya, and then, guided by the operator on duty, escorted Amiya back to her room.

Seeing Amiya instinctively hug her blanket, the Doctor reached out and adjusted it for her, making sure she was covered so she wouldn't catch a cold.

Amiya usually helps the Doctor put on his coat. But ever since he experienced a strange period of fatigue recently, the Doctor's energy has been exceeding expectations.

Amiya, on the other hand, couldn't keep up with the Doctor's all-nighters.

The professor tiptoed out of the room and gently pressed the button to close the door and turn off the lights.

"Amiya, she couldn't hold on any longer."

The operators on duty were also veteran operators who had been with Rhodes Island from the very beginning.

Because he lacked combat talent, he had always done logistical work on Rhodes Island.

Sometimes they take turns on duty.

"Thank you for your hard work."

The doctor nodded.

“I’ve been very busy lately, and Kal’tsit isn’t here either. Amiya wants to do more for everyone to help ease our burden.”

"It seems that Dr. Kal'tsit has finally made up her mind?"

“She already had it, but Amiya wasn’t ready yet.”

The Doctor chatted casually with the duty officer, and the officer walked towards the door together.

"You've worked hard too, Doctor."

Upon seeing the doctor's route, the duty officer immediately understood the doctor's plan.

He shows no sign of resting.

"I've had a lot of energy these past few days, and I've also been thinking about some old things. I might as well take advantage of the holiday to think about them properly."

The doctor said with a cheerful smile.

Do PhD students also take vacations?

The operative said, somewhat surprised.

"We have never seen you truly rest."

"Slacking off is a skill; doing it properly can improve work efficiency. You can learn more about this. I'm leaving now."

The doctor and the operator waved goodbye, preparing to leave, when suddenly they remembered something and turned back alertly.

"Don't tell Kal'tsit what I just said."

The operator chuckled and quickly shook his head to indicate that he didn't know how.

It seems the Doctor still harbors some habitual fear of Dr. Kal'tsit.

The doctor walked step by step toward the command room, his head down, stepping on his own shadow.

Amiya's words were still echoing in his mind.

The doctor sighed softly.

He remembered something, shortly after the Undead and Kal'tsit left.

Kal'tsit has never told anyone about Amiya's background, and even Amiya's file is a top secret.

However, in reality, even the text in the classified files was a jumble of gibberish.

The Doctor had not received an answer from Kal'tsit before.

Later, he realized that it wasn't Kal'tsit who deliberately omitted it.

Rather, it's because she wasn't fully aware of the situation herself.

Under the lamplight, the doctor's shadow was stretched long, as if he were deep in unexplored darkness.

The Doctor was aware that Amiya had a strong dependence on him.

During his time back on Rhodes Island, the Doctor pondered the reasons behind this sense of dependence.

Perhaps, as Amiya said, the Doctor used to be her teacher, and to her, the Doctor was like her father.

But it wasn't until a few days ago when I woke up from my sleep.

When she saw Amiya again, Amiya's caring words unconsciously overlapped with the screams she had heard in her sleep.

The exposed muscle layers, the test tubes beside the operating table, and the things sewn into the body were all vividly presented in the doctor's mind.

At that moment, the doctor was stunned.

The previously chaotic fragments of memory in his mind began to piece themselves together on their own at this moment.

He was relieved that Kal'tsit wasn't on Rhodes Island during this time, while sorting through his memories.

From then on, every time the Doctor saw Amiya's smiling face and the trust that unconsciously emanated from her, he would subconsciously look away.

He shouldn't be a father.
