These subhumans had absolutely no sense of chivalry. The little princess of the Ais Federation was simply left on the ground, her plain-colored dress covered in dust.
Ariel struggled to her feet, her mouth sealed by a silencing spell, unable to utter a sound. She glared fiercely at the dragonman in front of her.
The king, unperturbed by the glare, said with some regret, "Why Ariel? If it had been Elisa, we could have won by a lot more."
Longyan's expression softened slightly, and Qiduo leaned in so close that his face was almost touching Ariel's: "Do you think Ais is willing to send troops to take you back, my dear princess?"
With a hint of dragon's might in his vertical pupils, Qiduo spoke slowly and deliberately: "As everyone knows, Ais only needs one successor, and you are clearly the redundant one. You wouldn't be thinking of deliberately getting captured so you can freeload in Zorro, would you?"
Ariel couldn't open her mouth; she could only stare silently at the man in front of her who was so much taller than her.
“Just kidding,” Chido spread his hands, grinning maliciously. “They’re royalty, after all. They can make a good profit selling arms to their neighbors.”
After speaking, Qiduo winked at his subordinates: "Take the man inside and keep a close watch on him. Although I don't think Ais would easily divert her forces to Zorro while she's at war with the Lyon Empire, we can't rule out the possibility that she might issue a bounty through the Adventurers' Guild. Increase the security level of the Kingdom of Zorro."
"Yes, sir!" The airmen who had just landed received the order and rode their mounts to patrol the airspace.
After Ariel was led inside, a man with short blue hair walked up behind Chido.
The man bowed respectfully to Qiduo: "Your Majesty, is my information absolutely true?"
Chido turned around with a smile: "We also owe you a lot for getting rid of the patrols of the Ais Federation, otherwise our Zorro Kingdom wouldn't have been able to invade so easily. Zera Vantis."
“Your Majesty, please don’t stand on ceremony,” Zera said, her neat short hair fluttering in the breeze, her smile growing increasingly sinister. “Since I have betrayed Ais and come to Zorro to be your subject, from now on, you are my Majesty.”
Chido nodded in satisfaction at Zera's oath of loyalty.
Chido raised his chin toward Zera. Soon Zera was taken away by several demi-humans to receive his reward and fiefdom, leaving only Chido and two subjects on the platform.
"Your Majesty, it's about time to go back." The sky darkened, a cool breeze swept by, and the subjects bowed and said.
As Qiduo gazed at the place where the sun was setting in the distance, he felt a sense of unease for some reason.
Dragons have a keen intuition, and this is true even for dragon people who have inherited dragon genes.
The last rays of the setting sun were swallowed by the mountains, leaving only a sliver of afterglow in the west. The broken halo turned half the sky fiery red, and unease and panic arose spontaneously.
ear
A faint sound came from within, and when Chido focused his attention on his hearing, the faint sound was amplified infinitely. It was as if hundreds of millions of vengeful spirits were wailing in his ears, and the whispers of demons were echoing in his mind.
All the scales on his body bristled up, and Chido covered half of his ear, his vertical pupils shrinking into tiny circles.
023 Black Lightning
"Excuse me..." A series of afterimages suddenly appeared in front of him without warning, "This is the Zorro Kingdom, right?"
The noise in his head stopped abruptly when the man spoke clearly. Chido took a step back in alarm; his intuition told him this man was no ordinary person.
"This is indeed the Kingdom of Zorro," the minister behind him said. "Before you stands His Majesty Cheto Zorro, the current ruler of the Kingdom of Zorro!"
The minister, clearly oblivious to the strange noise, pointed angrily at the unfamiliar black-haired man and said fiercely, "Insolent scoundrel, trespassing into our airspace! Kneel down and pay your respects!"
"Oh? So he's the strongest here?" The black-haired man pointed at the dragonman in front of him. "He looks pretty ordinary, doesn't he?"
The minister flew into a rage, spitting as he shouted, "Insolence! His Majesty Chido's strength is top-tier! Where did this nobody come from, so disrespectful? You won't be leaving Zorro alive today!"
Chido didn't speak. He didn't even dare to look the black-haired man in the eye, as if his soul would be devoured if he met those eyes.
"Your Majesty, teach this brat a lesson!" The minister was clearly angry at the rude foreigner. Although he didn't know why His Majesty was standing still, he took out the magic wand from his pocket in order to uphold the dignity of the Zorro Kingdom.
"No..." Qiduo swallowed hard, managing to utter a single syllable. This man instilled an instinctive fear in him; his body felt as if it were bound by an invisible force, beyond his control.
"Your Majesty, this man not only trespassed into the airspace of the Zorro Kingdom, but also failed to kneel before the King, adding insult to injury!" The minister failed to hear King Chido's quiet protest. He gripped his staff with both hands, chanting intricate and complex incantations.
Mikayi wasn't in a hurry either, leisurely waiting for the other party to chant the spell.
“I say, it’s such a waste to use a powerful spell on this kind of trash. Our King Chido only needs to draw his sword, and this little fellow’s head will be on the ground. Don’t you agree, Your Majesty?” The minister on the other side was not worried about his safety at all; nothing was safer than standing around King Chido.
"No, no, no! Shut up... Stop the magic... Ansini, stop!" After a moment of stunned silence, Qido finally reacted as the intense light from the magic converged. Ignoring the danger, Qido lunged at the minister who had cast the spell.
As the chant ended, lightning bolts, like snakes, shot out from the wand.
A bolt of blue lightning, powerful enough to turn someone into charred remains, struck Mikayi.
Chido looked over in horror. It would be best if this man could be reduced to ashes by this magic, but…
"Completely intact...?!"
"How could this be!" exclaimed the minister called Ansini. That attack just now was his full strength!
Looking at his palm, where tiny sparks of lightning still lingered, Mikayi exclaimed, "Blue lightning? I've never seen that before..." As if curious about something new, Mikayi turned his palm and the back of his hand over and over, "In our world, besides red lightning, there was only black lightning."
Chido's heart skipped a beat, and instinctively he took a few steps back, distancing himself from the man: "Your...world?"
"Ah, I accidentally let it slip," Mikayi said regretfully. "I didn't intend to kill you."
With a single step, he landed beside the person who had cast the spell. Mikayi asked curiously, "What was the composition of that spell? Why was the lightning blue? Cast it again so I can see?"
Then he raised his head and asked the tall dragonman, "Are the scales on your body caused by passive or active magic? Or are they something you were born with? Is your race oviparous or viviparous? Do you need to nurse?"
The Demon King, filled with curiosity about the other world, asked a series of questions. The three people on the other side just stood there, stunned, without answering.
Mikayi frowned, reached out and plucked a scale from the dragonman's body. Blood could be seen seeping from the wound where the scale had been torn off. It was basically determined that the scale was similar to skin.
The dragon scale in his hand was just an ordinary one. After looking at it for a few moments, Mikayi put the scale back in its original position.
"One last question," Mikaela asked seriously, "How do humans and dragons reproduce? Seriously, the size difference alone is just too big, isn't it?"
Chido was speechless. It wasn't that he didn't want to answer, but when the man got closer, he found that he had even lost the ability to speak.
It was as if he were in an endless darkness, with a pair of huge, scarlet eyes staring straight at him.
"I say, are you all made of wood?" Mikayi instantly lost his patience. "Completely ignoring me, the great demon king, is incredibly rude of you."
At this moment, apart from the sensitive dragon people, even the two ministers seemed to be imprisoned by darkness. Their eyes were empty and lifeless, and their mouths were half-open.
Mikayi, who was completely unaware of the pressure he had unintentionally released, was clearly unhappy. He shook his head and sighed repeatedly, "What a good dragonman, I never expected him to be such an idiot."
"As a return gift, I'll use lightning magic on my end, is that alright?"
"Want to see?" Mikayi said, nudging the tall dragonman with his elbow.
Faced with the three remaining unresponsive, Mikayi lost interest. The princess next door was waiting for him to rescue her, and he didn't want to delay any longer.
As Mikayi slowly walked past Chido Zorro, he moved step by step toward the target locked by the tracking magic.
Just as he was about to step into the dimly lit room, Mika's eyes emitted an evil crimson light.
Without any chanting or the use of a staff as a medium, a massive magic circle spread out overhead, spiraling upwards into the sky.
The sky above the Kingdom of Zorro was shrouded in dark clouds, the endless darkness seemingly capable of swallowing all light.
<Black Magic: Thousand Thunderclaps>
The rumbling sound echoed all around, and the screams and wails were the best music for the Demon King.
Where the black lightning swept, only charred remains remained; the three people on the platform had already vanished into black smoke. Compared to the terrifying black lightning magic on the continent of Garan, this time it only flashed symbolically a few times.
The Demon King, who claims to be protecting another world, has controlled his power well. Although the Zorro Kingdom may need a new king, it is unlikely to be destroyed.
Come to think of it, this was the first time Mikayi had ever played the role of a hero rescuing a damsel in distress since becoming the Demon King. The novelty delighted him, and he couldn't wait to see Ariel throw herself into his arms.
Why not just give up being the Demon King and become a hero in another world? That wouldn't be bad either!
024 Deceiving the Devil's Disguise
Following the spiral staircase downwards, at the end of the corridor lies Mikayi's destination.
Logically, there should be many people guarding such an important hostage, but there was no one around.
Perhaps distracted by the thunder and earthquake, Mikayi didn't suspect anything further.
Ariel sat on the ground, her plain white dress stained with mud. Her long blonde hair fell to either side of her face. Her exposed shoulders were slightly disheveled.
Her smooth skin shimmered with a pearly sheen. Mikayi's lips moved slightly as she walked straight over.
A gust of wind sliced through the heavy iron bars, and the sound of boots echoed in the corridor. Mikael crouched down beside Ariel.
"It's alright now, I've chased those bad guys away." Ariel lowered her head, probably still frightened, and showed no reaction to Michael's arrival. "Want to come with me?"
To comfort the vulnerable human princess, Mikayi gently reached out and embraced her. He spoke in his most tender tone, trying to soothe her: "Why don't you leave Ais? They treat you so badly. Why don't you come with me..."
The next second.
This was probably the most shocking thing that had ever happened to Mikayi.
The red pupils, which had been enchanted with concealment magic, were now completely exposed. Surprise dispelled all concentration, the magic failed, and Mikayi's black pupils turned crimson as shock caused his pupils to shrink to a circle.
A dagger pierced his back from behind, its sharp blade easily penetrating his back and reaching his chest. Blood dripped from the blade that pierced his chest. Mikayi looked down and clearly saw the three blooming roses engraved on the blade, a pattern that was the symbol of the Ais Federation.
All of Mikael's senses told him that Ariel was indeed the only person beside him at that moment.
“Go with you? Go where?” Ariel raised her head, her face displaying an exaggerated smile that was anything but elegant. “I just want to be Ais’s queen.”
Ariel squatted on the ground, laughing as she cupped her cheeks, smearing her face with blood from her fingers: "Ah, I forgot to tell Mr. Mikayi, although my magic has no offensive power, it has super strong reconnaissance capabilities."
“Mr. Mikael must be very confused right now.” Ariel poked the man’s forehead with her finger, drawing circles on it with her blood-stained fingertip. “It’s alright. I’ll explain it to you slowly before you die completely. At least you can die knowing why, instead of becoming a pitiful, wronged ghost, right?”
Mikael remained silent. Ariel didn't mind; after all, being pierced through the heart by a sword and unable to speak from the pain was perfectly reasonable.
"Speaking of which, it was on the battlefield that I met Mr. Mikayi, right? Perhaps no one else noticed, only I saw it. Mr. Mikayi caught the boulder with his bare hands and then easily crushed it."
"No one would easily believe this situation, right? So, to test you, we left you in the royal city. Who would have thought that the royal city would be covered by powerful search magic the next second? Although we don't know how you emitted that terrifying aura, it was undoubtedly emitted by a powerful being."
The dripping blood pooled together, and the color of the blood was reflected in Ariel's pupils, complementing the bloodstains smeared on her face: "Whether it was perfectly healing Zera or silently killing Roald Bamilyon, all the results pointed to the fact that Mr. Mikael was a powerful foreigner."
“So, using Mr. Mikayi is the most important thing for me right now.” Ariel grabbed Mikayi’s collar, her face close enough to feel his breath on hers.
Enjoying her rapid breathing, Ariel comfortably squinted her eyes: "Originally, I didn't intend to kill Mr. Mikayi. But who knew that Mr. Mikayi would actually break the royal curse?!"
"This is beyond my expectations, Mikael. I paid a fortune for that curse! And you actually lifted it?!" Ariel exclaimed excitedly, her voice shrill. "Do you know?! To inherit the throne sooner..."
I didn't hesitate to bring disaster upon myself, cursing my mother and sister, even casting a curse on myself! And you! You actually want to be that so-called good person?!
"Haven't I suffered enough, Mikayi?! I've been called a piece of trash since birth, do you know how long I've endured it! I waited a full ten years just for the curse to take my mother away! And you, because of your appearance!!"
"Heh, hahahaha... People like you probably don't understand. Despite your high status, you can still be easily trampled underfoot and called trash."
"But it's okay..."
“After all, Mikayi, you are about to die violently in another country.”
"When I return once again bearing the banner of 'victorious return,' I'm sure the people will adore me. After all, I am the gentlest Princess Ariel..."
"I'm so sorry, I deliberately let myself be captured, and used you to attack the Zorro Kingdom..."
"You'll forgive me, won't you, Mikayi?" Ariel's狰狞 smile vanished, replaced by her standard smile. Her elegant and gentle eyebrows were slightly parted, her long eyelashes drooped, and her eyes were filled with tears, making her look pitiful.
