The crowd, having finally realized what was happening, began to complain in despair.
Mikayi kept his head down, his drooping black hair obscuring his expression.
There was no other way; I had to cover up the smile on my face, because if I laughed out loud at this moment, it would cause public outrage.
Foolish humans... Hahaha...
The gloating demon king secretly mocked him.
If you look closely, you can see that the wind mage's shoulders are trembling slightly. But probably no one knows that he's not shivering from the cold, but rather from laughing.
"Ok?"
The same wind mage made the surprised sound. As Mikayi looked down, he saw something beneath the ice beneath his feet.
The transparent ice blocks completely revealed what was beneath their feet.
There were helmets, daggers, badges... and other random things. There was no discernible pattern to these items; if you had to pinpoint a common characteristic, it would be that they were all made of metal.
Could it be... relics from the previous group?
His legs were restricted, otherwise, Mikayi really wanted to dig a hole down to see what was inside. After all, this curious demon king was genuinely curious about the other world.
069 Sinister
Wolf King
The wolf king had already determined that these people had fallen into its trap. It showed no sign of urgency and sat down with the lower-ranking snow wolves.
The panicked crowd looked around frantically, their minds racing, trying to figure out how to break the situation.
Two snow wolves let out two soft howls. The wolf king nodded. Following the command, the snow wolves walked step by step toward the human whose feet were frozen.
"What...what...what do you want to do..."
The humans chosen as targets by the snow wolves struggled fiercely; their feet were frozen, but they still had their hands; they had lost their magic, but still had their swords.
As he drew the dagger from his waist, preparing to stab the approaching snow wolf in the head.
A clanging sound came from both sides. The next second, everyone's hands were bound.
These chains were made of ice, chilling to the bone. Without any magic, everyone could only watch helplessly as they were controlled.
"what!--"
With a horrifying scream, the adventurer was devoured alive by several snow wolves. Torn flesh and blood flowed all over the ground.
Mikayi instinctively turned around and looked towards Kuro. He couldn't let Kuro see this scene now.
However, Kuro did not look up at all; his hands and feet were bound, and he kept his head down.
A soft sob came from Kuro's direction, and hot tears fell onto the ice.
Mikayi's body stiffened for a moment: "Kuro? What's wrong? Kuro?"
Hey, hey, hey, this is really going too far. They're making their apprentice cry...
Mikayi didn't really need to come to the snowy mountains to participate in any kind of expedition. If he wanted to make Kuro disappear from the Lyon Empire, wouldn't that be easy?
He could have easily just asked one of his men to come and pick him up; he did this purely out of curiosity. He came here to experience what it's like to be an adventurer.
Mikayi tried to reach out to comfort him, but was entangled by an obstructive ice chain. Just as Mikayi was about to break free of the chain, Kuro's face lifted up.
"It's alright... Master."
Tell me what's wrong! It's always the same. You deliberately cover things up when I ask you about the situation. I'm your mentor, what's wrong with trusting me a little?
Mikayi was somewhat agitated, and his gaze drifted in the direction Kuro had just been looking.
At Kuro's feet was a silver ring, and nothing else.
The ring is crooked and even has some uneven edges; the person who made it must have been a novice.
Is it because of this ring?
Mikayi looked at it for a long time but still couldn't figure it out.
Several people on this side have already been devoured, and everyone is in a panic.
Screams and desperate cries echoed through the cave.
"It's so noisy... these people..."
The wolf king strode over, its mouth half-open, exhaling white smoke from its mouth.
The smoke contained glittering particles, like broken snow crystals.
Sleep... my food... <Ice Magic: Sleeping Mist>
Not long after the ice magic was activated, the noisy cries in the cave gradually subsided, and the cave returned to silence.
One moment humans are struggling in despair, the next they are asleep.
No one even realized what had happened; in their minds, the Wolf King had simply exhaled a breath that had knocked them unconscious.
The Wolf King looked around with satisfaction, then suddenly seemed to discover something.
"Huh? There's still one awake? Oh... fire magic, huh? It's my weakness. No wonder he's not asleep yet."
The red-haired boy forced his eyes open, biting his lip. His lips bled, and drops of blood trickled down.
"Sleep now, delicious fire mage, I'll eat you one last time."
Overwhelmed by sleepiness, the red-haired boy could no longer resist and fell into a deep sleep.
"Hahaha... If this continues, my Snow Wolf Clan will never have to worry about food or drink again. They're even sending over succulent mages! We really have to thank the Lyon Empire! Hahahaha!"
The wolf king was laughing so hard his eyes were almost closed, but suddenly, as if he saw something, his laughter stopped abruptly.
What happened...?
The Wolf King walked toward a black-haired man, his huge feet landing silently on the ice.
"This guy... isn't sleepy at all..."
Mikayi took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. He raised his head and met the Wolf King's gaze.
“I want to sleep too… You know I didn’t sleep a wink last night,” Mikayi said. “Why is your magic ineffective against me? I’m so disappointed. This is your territory, after all.”
"W-What?! Is it my imagination? Why does it feel like this guy can understand my language?"
The wolf king was startled. Its attention was no longer on why this person was awake, but was completely stunned by what the human had said.
If I'm not mistaken, this person is indeed talking to themselves.
"I'm sorry, it's not my imagination. I'm truly sorry that I'm fluent in the languages of all species on both continents."
Mikayi's eyes were filled with helplessness. He wanted to experience the feeling of falling asleep again, too.
"You, you bastard! What's going on?!"
“That’s how it is.” Mikai looked at the pack of silly, low-ranking snow wolves. “Are you the only one with any intelligence here? Can’t your subordinates talk?”
"Oh, oh... I see." The Wolf King nodded honestly.
I don't know how
Faced with the man's question, the Wolf King subconsciously took the initiative to answer.
"Aren't you very lonely? All alone in this deep mountain snowfield?"
"Hmm...to be honest, you're the first person in hundreds of years to speak to me."
"You're so pitiful..."
"Hey... don't talk like that about pity. I'm a wolf king, for goodness' sake. By the way, why are you awake?"
Perhaps it was because he had been lonely for too long, and when he met someone he could talk to, the wolf king's ferocity was completely overshadowed by the desire to converse.
It still had a lot to say to this wind mage.
"Perhaps it's because...I'm the Demon King?"
Mikayi said calmly.
070 You're just a little puppy.
"Impossible! The Demon King! The Demon King is the king who leads all magical beasts! He hasn't appeared for hundreds of years. If you really are the Demon King, I will have no way to disobey your orders... Hmm, you're lying to me, aren't you..."
The wolf king brought its face very close, sniffing carefully at the scent emanating from Mikayi. It then let out a soft "Eh!" and said:
"But you don't seem human either... Why do you seem so lifeless? Are you already dead...? Oh my god, this is terrifying, I'm actually talking to a dead person."
To confirm whether the man was dead, the wolf king stretched out its flat, long tongue and licked Mikayi's head with a slurp.
The wolf king then shuddered violently.
This guy is definitely not human... How could a human have such an evil aura?
Mikayi's lips twitched.
What's wrong with this wolf?! It started licking me without warning...?!
"Do you know... you have bad breath... little puppy?"
To the Demon King, the Snowfield Wolf King was nothing more than a slightly larger canine.
With his face covered in foul-smelling saliva, Mikayi was clearly unhappy.
"Little puppy... I'm a wolf! Not just a wolf, but the king of wolves!"
The wolf king was getting angry, and its furious tail slapped against the ice, creating several cracks in the smooth surface.
"I don't care what you are." Mikayi moved his wrist, breaking free of the ice chains binding him. Twisting his wrist, Mikayi pulled his feet out of the ice.
"What?! They broke free from my magic so easily!!"
The wolf king's mouth was wide open, and his eyes were wide open, looking completely dumbfounded.
"I'm taking my apprentice back now, is that alright?"
Mikayi walked towards the sleeping Kuro and gently unlocked the chains binding her. Mikayi knelt down and carried Kuro on her back.
"No, it's rare to encounter a human girl. A young girl's flesh is incredibly delicious; I can't let you take her away."
Wolf King stepped forward and stopped Mikayi, who was about to leave.
"Really? So you want to fight me?"
