The cheers and praises of the workers still echoed in his ears, but he was so tired that he didn't even want to wave his hands anymore.
"You have succeeded, dear Wind Rider."
Janna's gentle and melodious voice rang out again, and this time Mu Bai finally saw her—tall, elegant, and ethereal. She had a pair of long, pointed ears, her feet floated lightly above the ground, her hair swayed gently in the still air, and her azure eyes were captivating.
[PS: The original skin was too revealing and wouldn't pass censorship, so I had to use a magical girl instead.]
Her attire was revealing but not seductive; instead, it conveyed a sense of sacred and noble dignity.
"I should say... we succeeded, Miss Gana," Mu Bai said with a soft laugh.
“Based on your bravery,” Janna smiled. “Alright, you should go back now. Don’t keep your companions worried for too long.”
Will we ever have a chance to meet again?
"Of course, dear Wind Rider. I'm always here whenever you want to see me."
A gentle breeze swept by, and Janna's graceful figure vanished abruptly, leaving only a talisman engraved with a bluebird pattern where she had been standing.
Mu Bai put the amulet into a hidden pocket close to his body, then stood up.
The cries of the rescued continued; they seemed not to have seen the legendary goddess of wind, and believed it was all thanks to Mu Bai alone.
Since Janna didn't want to reveal herself, Mu Bai didn't say anything more and silently walked out of the Hextech Crystal Factory.
Outside the factory, there was a cacophony of shouts, mixed with the roar of artillery fire—the MK-2 robot was not yet fully resolved, and it would take some time to clean up the mess.
"My little Bai is so great!" Jinx was the first to rush over and affectionately put her arm around Mu Bai's neck.
Everyone else offered their praise, but Caitlin and Vi were nowhere to be seen.
"Stop looking, those two idiots went with the guards," Jinx reminded them. "They still have to deal with the mole."
"I see." Mu Bai nodded, and out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a pink-haired girl hurrying towards them.
With Vi gone, Seraphine is all that's left of the pink-haired girl.
Her forehead was covered with tiny, dense beads of sweat, and her fitted shirt clung to her body, becoming slightly transparent due to the perspiration.
It's clear that although she arrived a bit late, she had done a lot of work.
"Mr. Mu Bai, are you alright!" Salafine anxiously grabbed Mu Bai's hands. "I'm sorry I'm late..."
Camille raised an eyebrow in displeasure.
What's wrong with this kid? He always manages to seize the opportunity to take advantage of any opening...
"It's alright," Mu Bai said with a smile. "As long as everyone is alright, nothing else matters."
"Phew..." Salafine breathed a sigh of relief, but didn't let go of Mu Bai's small hand.
After a slight pause, she mustered her courage and said, "Mr. Mu Bai, why don't you come and rest at my place?"
Camille gave a knowing, mocking look.
Jinx, on the other hand, felt the same way Caitlyn did, and was so angry she gritted her teeth.
As for the others... there's nothing to say except to be envious.
The most beautiful women in these two cities are all related to Mr. Mu Bai, right? ... Everyone secretly sighed, "He is truly a role model for us all!"
Chapter Seventy-Seven: Greatness is Good
In the end, Mu Bai still did not agree to Salafine's request to go to her house to "rest".
After all, the time travel only lasts for two days, so we can't be as leisurely as before.
But Seraphine and Jinx were different; they had plenty of free time.
"Wow, is this Hat Girl's house?" The girl with pigtails and a flat chest looked around like a curious child. "She must take a lot of bribes, right? It's so luxurious."
"Don't talk nonsense..." Mu Bai took the bear-patterned water cup from her hand with a helpless expression, and then pressed her head down to make her sit on the sofa.
Thankfully, Caitlin wasn't home, otherwise I would have definitely gotten into a fight with that girl...
Hmm... and Salafine too... If Caitlin knew she was there, she'd probably get a sharp tongue from her.
Terrible.
“What beautiful decor.” Seraphine was much calmer than Jinx’s exaggerated reaction. “Sheriff Caitlin has really good taste, much better than mine.”
It was a perfectly normal sentence, but Jinx heard it with a strange undertone of manipulative behavior, so much so that she deliberately stretched out her legs, taking up most of the sofa, forcing Seraphine to sit across from her at the table.
Whether out of cunning or genuine naiveté, the latter's smile remained unchanged, and he didn't hold anything against Jinx.
"I'll go get two glasses of water. You all stay here and don't move."
Mu Bai didn't understand the girls' complicated thoughts, nor could he see the subtle competition between them. He just went to pour water for himself.
But as soon as he left, the little devil Jinx started causing trouble.
“Salepani…right? Is that your name?” She crossed her legs and looked at the other person with an arrogant expression.
"Yes, Miss Jinx." Seraphine's smile remained unchanged, her expression calm and composed.
“Very well, Salafine. There’s something I need to emphasize to you—don’t get any funny ideas about Mu Bai. He can only be mine, understand?”
"Hmm... I don't quite understand what you mean. Could you explain it more clearly, Jinx?"
"Little...?" Looking at the mocking smile on the other person's face, Jinx was certain she understood her. She was just pretending to be stupid, and doing so in a sarcastic tone!
"Ah... I meant Jinx is young." Seraphine waved her hand, subtly puffing out her chest, which looked quite bouncy. "I absolutely didn't mean anything by it..."
Jinx raised an eyebrow, veins popping on her forehead. "I won't bring up age with you... As for your chest, don't you know that Xiaobai prefers my type? Those two lumps of fat on you are too much of a nuisance, they're not attractive at all."
“Hey, Jinx, I just remembered a saying,” Seraphine chuckled. “Some things, you can only say they’re bad once you have them.”
"Hehe, admit it, the best is the kind of person who can lie down and lean back."
"Hmm... I'm sorry, but I can't agree."
"Think whatever you want, anyway, Xiaobai will definitely prefer someone like me."
"Is that so? I think we need to ask Mr. Mu Bai himself to know the answer to this question."
The two girls stared at each other, their eyes wide with tension.
Fortunately, Mu Bai returned to the living room with three glasses of water in time, otherwise the two of them might have gotten into a fight.
At least, they could argue for three days and three nights about whether something is better or worse.
"What are you talking about?" Mu Bai asked with a smile, handing out the cups one by one.
He had just heard them talking, and he felt a sense of relief. It was so good that the two of them could get along normally; their last meeting at the safe house was anything but peaceful.
“We…” Jinx glanced at Seraphine, then looked at Mu Bai with a serious expression:
"Little White! Answer me seriously, is a flat one better or a giant one?"
"What flat or huge?" Mu Bai was taken aback.
Jinx pursed her lips, steeled her resolve, and continued, "Of course—"
“Of course we’re talking about shell caliber,” Seraphine suddenly interrupted Jinx. “We were just discussing shell caliber. Mr. Mu Bai, do you think a larger or smaller caliber is better?”
"Hmm? I know how to do this." Upon hearing this, Mu Bai immediately became interested and plopped down next to Salafine.
This has nothing to do with personal feelings; it's just that Jinx's sitting posture is too domineering, taking up all the seats next to her.
They really shot themselves in the foot.
"Ahem, listen up, you two—caliber is justice, range is truth, and bigger is better. So, of course, the bigger the caliber, the better."
“Oh~” Salafine nodded repeatedly, looking on with an expression of admiration.
"..." Jinx felt that something was wrong, but she didn't know how to refute it.
As for caliber, larger is indeed better...
But the issue we just discussed doesn't seem to be about caliber...
Seraphine looked at Jinx with the eyes of a victor, while continuing to question Mu Bai, giving Jinx no chance to explain at all:
"By the way, Mr. Mu Bai, I heard you're gathering everyone tomorrow? Is there something you want to discuss?"
"Yes, it's something very important," Mu Bai nodded.
Tomorrow is the last day of time travel, so we must gather everyone together and explain the situation properly.
It was a bit rushed, but there was no other way.
Actually, there are quite a few "chosen ones" in Piltover and Zaun, but unfortunately, there's simply not enough time to find them in one day. We can only wait until the next time we travel through time to see if we have a chance to come back.
It was a pleasant surprise to run into Janna before leaving, so overall this time travel trip was worthwhile.
"Oh." Although Salafine was a little curious about what it was, since Mu Bai planned to talk about it tomorrow, there was no need for her to ask now.
She paused for a moment, then asked, "Will Miss Caitlin be back tonight?"
“She probably won’t be coming back,” Mu Bai said without hesitation. “She and Vi are busy dealing with Piltover security matters, so they probably won’t be back until tomorrow morning or noon.”
Not only Caitlyn and Vi, but Camille, Jayce, Ekko, and others also have their own things to do and are probably too busy to come today.
As soon as she finished speaking, Seraphine and Jinx narrowed their beautiful eyes simultaneously, each of them starting to make their own plans.
Since the rightful owner isn't here, it doesn't count as usurping someone else's place, right?
At most, it's called... the capable rise to power? Yes, that's right, the capable rise to power.
Salafine cleared her throat and quietly moved half a step closer to Mu Bai. "Mr. Mu Bai, do you remember the inspiration I mentioned when we last met? I used it to write a new song. Would you like to hear it?"
Jinx frowned, wanting to try again, but suddenly realized that she had no talent to offer.
She could only watch helplessly as that scheming woman, who reeked of manipulative tactics, abducted Mu Bai.
“Let’s go sing in the room, there will be an echo.” Salafine naturally took Mu Bai’s hand.
Chapter Seventy-Eight: Salafine's Repayment
The moment the door closed, Salafine gave a sinister smile.
She held a microphone in her left hand and a musical instrument resembling a guitar or pipa in her right. Her eyes were narrowed into crescent moons, and a few strands of long, pinkish-purple curly hair fell to the tip of her nose, giving her a playful and adorable look.
"This new song requires the use of instruments," she said with a smile. "With harmonies added, it will sound better than a cappella."
