Chapter Fifty: The Inner World
Duke suddenly raised his head.
Standing in front of him was a somewhat familiar-looking young girl. He hesitated for a moment before asking to confirm:
"You're... Thunder Witch's student from earlier?"
“Yes, my name is Jasmine.” Jasmine nodded, nervously pushing up her glasses. “Hello, Mr. Duke.”
Before entering the Witch Game, she never expected that the masked man who had chased the Radiant Witch into the Witch Game would be Duke, a "big celebrity" in the Floating City. At this moment, she couldn't help but feel a little surprised and nervous... but also a little admiring.
No wonder he's from Duke University, he's really handsome! No wonder he became a scumbag.
"It's all about looks," sighed the witch apprentice.
"Why are you in here too?" Duke frowned. Cecil's disappearance had made him involuntarily irritable, and his tone became somewhat sharp. "When did you come in?"
"Actually, I came in shortly after you, Mr. Duke, but I couldn't find you and Miss Cecil until now."
Jasmine said somewhat awkwardly.
Duke was incredibly lucky to find Cecil so quickly among 203 players, while Jasmine, who only found her teammate after players were eliminated one by one and she had already completed more than half of the game, was extremely unlucky.
"What did you mean by what you just said? Do you know what factors influenced me?"
Duke frowned.
He vaguely sensed this as well.
Why would he abandon Cecil to extort money for no reason? This kind of brainless thing doesn't seem like something he would do, not to mention that he even gave Cecil detailed training on decision-making before abandoning her...
Hilarious! Didn't he ever think that he could have just taken her along and avoided the training?
What is influencing your thoughts?
"For example, cognitive manipulation? Or emotional manipulation? Or psychological suggestion? Or bewitching humans?" Jasmine shook her head: "There are too many possibilities. I don't know which one worked, so I can only do my best."
As she spoke, she took out her wand and uttered a syllable to Duke:
"Calm your mind!"
Second-level enchantment spells are generally used to calm and stabilize intense human emotions. The power of the magic made Duke feel a chill in his brain, and he closed his eyes in his agitated state.
"How are you feeling? Any better?"
"Ah."
Duke felt the negative emotions that had been building up in his heart gradually dissipate, and he nodded to Jasmine.
Jasmine didn't stop. She took out a bottle of holy water from her bosom and splashed it at Duke, chanting again, "Counteract good and evil."
The fifth-circle protective spell, with its glowing energy, enveloped Duke's body as Jasmine cast the spell. If the one who tampered with him was a celestial being, an elemental being, a spirit, a demon, or an undead, this spell could remove the negative effects.
Immediately afterward, Jasmine used several purification spells, trying every possible solution. She was a truly learned and well-rounded spellcaster, unlike Amber, a genius with only one specialty, or Cecil, a paladin turned henchman. Knowledge gave her power.
Duke didn't know which of Jasmine's spells had worked, but he suddenly felt that a force that had been hindering his thinking had disappeared. Only when this vague feeling came did he finally dare to trust his brain again.
Duke is the kind of person who becomes calmer in the face of crisis, and with Jasmine's help, he began to think again.
If the attackers could disregard the rules of this hall, they probably would have acted much earlier, instead of waiting until they were lured away to attack Cecil.
From the moment Cecil fired the Holy Light Flashbang to the moment she disappeared from her spot, it was probably less than a second. Unless the attackers possessed an Amber-level instant teleportation spell, they must still be nearby and hadn't gone far; it's just that I couldn't see or touch them.
The thought process quickly came to an end.
Duke opened his eyes and took an item from his inventory.
The voice of all things.
He put the Voice of All Things on his ears.
The cacophony of sounds in the hall reached Duke's ears through the Voice of All Things.
After leaving yesterday, Duke conducted several simple tests on the performance of the item.
First, it allows people to hear the "voices of all things." Inanimate objects like chairs and tables don't make sounds; they won't complain loudly about being heavy just because someone is sitting on them. The only things that can make sounds and that it can hear are "living things" with spirituality.
For example, an antique with a spirit (the cry for help from yesterday), a human, a living animal, or a plant.
Duke, who possesses the Voice of All Things, can understand the language of plants and animals, but these abilities are currently useless to him... He only hopes that Cecil can cause a big enough commotion.
In the noisy hall, the voices of numerous gamblers interfered with Duke's hearing, but he remained calm and continued to distinguish the sounds.
He firmly believed in his judgment and was convinced that Cecil was definitely not far off.
"Please, Cecil, make some noise."
As if hearing Duke's inner prayer, the next moment, he heard a somewhat nervous and hesitant voice: "I don't want to compete."
It's Cecil.
Duke suddenly looked up in the direction the sound came from and saw a competition table not far away, with a staff member acting as a referee next to the table... but there were no players on either side of the competition table.
He strode over to the betting table, and Cecil's nervous words could still be heard: "Duke said not to bet lightly, and you won't lose if you don't go to the betting table."
Soon, another man's voice rang out.
“He was talking about the general situation, but if you don’t compete now, you’ll be eliminated. There are no other players here who will compete with you except me, understand? And I’m out of cards. If you don’t give me those two cards you have, you’ll never be able to use them.”
"But……"
Duke listened to the conversation in astonishment. He reached out and took the Voice of All Things, and Cecil and the man's conversation came to an abrupt end, as if they did not exist in this world.
"The Other World?"
He quickly reinstalled the Voice of All Things and heard Cecil's words: "...You're right. Then I'll give you this card, and we'll use up these two cards."
"Oh no, Cecil, don't give him the card!"
Losing a star in a contest is a minor issue; the real problem lies in the unspoken rule of "not consuming cards in any other way"... What if Cecil gives the card to the other person and then gets sent back to the real world? How can she explain to the staff that she lost a card?
In the face of crisis, Duke did not hesitate to pull out his heavy spatial anchor and smash it onto the competition table in front of him.
Amidst the bewildered gazes of the staff, the competition table collapsed with a crash.
"Huh?"
Chapter 51 He said we could go.
"Isn't the ban on violence against other players? I just smashed a table, it's not that serious, sir."
Despite being pinned to the ground by staff, Duke continued to argue his case forcefully, leaving the staff speechless.
Generally speaking, if you get angry and flip the table, it will definitely be considered violent behavior and you will be eliminated early. But there are no players competing on either side of this competition table. What would it mean if you suddenly smashed a table?
The staff member who had previously warned Duke came to Duke again, his face even darker, but he couldn't do anything about it. He could only release Duke and warn him in an even sterner tone: "You just wait!"
"Okay, Black Sir."
"What kind of bullshit Black Sir?"
"Because your face is dark."
When Black Sir left, his face was even darker.
Duke, whose tolerance had been repeatedly tested by the staff, finally breathed a sigh of relief. Through the Voice of All Things, he was able to confirm that Cecil and the man were startled by the sudden turn of events after he slammed the table, and temporarily halted the card trading.
"Changes in the outer world will occur in sync with those in the inner world. The only difference between the two worlds is whether or not there are humans."
Having confirmed this, Duke took a pen from his inventory and began writing the same words repeatedly on the floor, following Cecil's voice.
"Notice this quickly!"
"Mr. Duke, what are you doing?" Jasmine finally caught up and, seeing Duke's performance art, couldn't understand it at all. "What does this have to do with rescuing Her Highness the Radiant Witch?"
“Of course I do.” Duke continued his performance art without turning his head, but he quickly looked up: “Do you have magic to travel to the other world?”
Jasmine was also a clever child; she immediately understood what Duke meant, but frowned with some difficulty.
Duke hadn't held out much hope. The spell to project a soul into the astral plane was a 9th-level spell, as was the spell to open a portal to other planes. Both were high-level spells that only heroic mages of level 17 or higher could cast.
If it were Amber, a genius in spatial magic, here, there might be some hope. But this young apprentice before me... well...
"Give me ten minutes, I'll give it a try."
Duke: "?"
Are these the spellcasters of the floating city? So you're all cheaters, huh?
Duke overlooked one point: Jasmine was a witch apprentice, not a mage apprentice. Her spellcasting level was actually very high, but becoming a witch required not a deep magical foundation, but at least one self-created exclusive spell. That's why she couldn't join the ranks of the floating city witches.
Of course, she couldn't use 9th-ring spells, but this traversal between the two worlds wasn't exactly dimensional travel; she wasn't confident, but she could give it a try.
Jasmine took out a diamond worth at least 500 gold coins from her bosom, used it as a medium for casting a spell, and then began to chant.
Duke let out a breath and continued chasing Cecil, scribbling wildly along the way.
"Look at me, you stupid witch!"
……
Even now, Cecil is still completely clueless about how she entered the Otherworld. The person who approached her while Duke was being held up by the three veteran brothers was the suspect. He noticed Cecil and walked over. Instead of running away, he took the initiative to approach the Radiant Witch.
She remembered Duke's instructions before he left, and resisted the urge to act. Instead, she threw an A1 flashbang at the ceiling, blinding all the players in the hall. She was even blinded by her own flashbang. By the time she realized what was happening, the once bustling hall was now empty.
Cecil was stunned.
At first, she thought her flashbang had wiped everyone out, and she panicked for a moment before someone started talking to her.
In the empty hall, a man with an equally bewildered expression appeared before her. He said his name was Quink, and that he too had arrived in this strange world after a burst of bright light.
After a brief exchange, Cecil was able to extract all the information out of him, almost revealing her ID number. Then came the conversation that Duke had just overheard. Under Quink's persuasive words, she and Quink went to a competition table and were about to hand over her card to him.
Just then, the table collapsed, interrupting their conversation.
"What's going on? What's happening?"
Cecil stared in disbelief at the competition table that had collapsed in front of him, while Quink also showed a surprised expression (and this time he wasn't faking it).
The two looked at each other for a moment, then, at Kunk's suggestion, went to another competition table nearby. But just then, Cecil suddenly noticed black ink marks appearing on the ground.
"Don't give him the card."
"I am Duke."
"He is the enemy."
