Ansel raised his head again and looked at Lin Ye: "Otherwise, what do you think a psychologist does?"
"Let me think... For example, comforting people who are having relationship problems and can't figure things out, relieving stress for people who are under too much pressure, playing serenades for people who have trouble sleeping, or giving people who are holding in their anger a place to vent."
“You’re overthinking it. These people won’t exist,” Ansel said. “At least not on Rhodes Island.”
Are you so sure?
“Of course, because what you’re talking about are just problems that ordinary people easily encounter. But on Rhodes Island, you wouldn’t come here without a strong enough heart.” Ansel lowered his head again. “So the jobs you’re talking about are very impractical.”
Lin Ye thought about it and realized that Ansel's words made sense.
"Well, it's probably because I'm not professional enough," Lin Ye scratched his head. "After all, as you know, I used to work at a veterinary hospital, and my daily work involved..."
"Shut up." Ansel closed the book, gritting his teeth as he said, "Please don't mention your past job again! You're a psychiatrist at Rhodes Island now, not a veterinarian!"
Lin Ye was startled by Ansel's sudden outburst. Although he didn't know why, seeing that Ansel seemed a bit angry, he didn't say anything more: "Alright, let's rest then. I'm going to Lungmen tomorrow. Speaking of which, what kind of city is Lungmen? I heard about it when I was in Chernobog, but I've never had the chance to go."
Ansel initially didn't want to pay any attention to Lin Ye, but then felt that as a senior, he should give some advice to the junior, so he replied, "Lungmen is a very complicated place, and it's hard to explain in a short time. Their attitude towards infected people is better than other places, but only slightly better. It's like their higher-ups don't really like us, but they're still our biggest business partner. Do you understand what I mean?"
"I understand a little bit."
"You'll find out when you get there. Although with your status, it's very likely you won't be able to meet with the higher-ups at Longmen, I still want to remind you that the people at Longmen aren't easy to talk to, so don't get into any conflicts with them."
"How could a mere psychologist like me possibly get into conflict with them?"
Ansel thought about it and realized that it made sense; he seemed to be worrying unnecessarily.
“Well, there’s nothing else to worry about. Dr. Kal’tsit is there anyway. Just treat this trip as a paid vacation,” Ansel said. “Hand Nightingale over to Dr. Kal’tsit, then calm her down and try to cooperate with her treatment. That should be fine.”
"Hmm. But does Nightingale know Dr. Kal'tsit?"
“That’s hard to say.” Ansel frowned. “Dr. Kal’tsit has had quite a few interactions with Nightingale… or rather, Dr. Kal’tsit has been in charge of Nightingale’s treatment all along. Nightingale has probably spent only slightly less time with Dr. Kal’tsit than with Shining, and since Nightingale remembers Shining, it’s not impossible that she also remembers Dr. Kal’tsit.”
"I see? Okay then."
"Any other questions?"
Lin Ye shook his head. Actually, he didn't have any questions to ask. He just wanted to wait until his hair was dry before going to sleep, so he chatted with Ansel.
My hair is almost dry now, I can go to sleep.
He had just spread out the blankets when he heard Ansel's words again: "What do you think of Nightingale now?"
Lin Ye turned his head and looked at Ansel with some confusion: "What did you say?"
“I’m asking, what do you think of Nightingale now?” Ansel said, “In terms of personality.”
Although somewhat confused, Lin Ye still shared his thoughts: "To be honest, I think she's alright. Although she's a little stubborn and a bit afraid of people, she's otherwise fine. She's like a little girl who hasn't grown up yet, and sometimes I think she's quite cute."
“Is that so?” Ansel nodded.
"Why are you suddenly asking this?" Lin Ye asked, puzzled.
Ansel was silent for a moment, then said, "Nightingale is sick."
"I know."
"And her condition is gradually improving."
"Isn't this a good thing?"
Ansel looked at Lin Ye and said softly, "If this continues, she will regain her memories."
"Isn't this the purpose of treating her?" Lin Ye was even more confused about Ansel's meaning.
Ansel shook his head: "I know, I just suddenly thought of a question."
"what?"
"Can the Nightingale who has regained her memories be considered the same person as the Nightingale now?"
Lin Ye was stunned.
“The Nightingale is like a blank sheet of paper now, but when she regains her lost memories, she won’t be a blank sheet anymore, will she?” Ansel asked. “Have you ever seen what the Nightingale looked like in the beginning?”
Lin Ye was silent for a moment, then shook his head: "There's no way I could have seen him."
“I haven’t seen it either, but it’s definitely not like this… I think I’ve said too much.” Ansel checked the time. “It’s time to sleep.”
After saying that, he lay down and turned off the light.
Darkness engulfed the small room.
Lin Ye was still sitting on the bed, lost in thought.
Then, as if he had just thought of something, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled chocolate wrapper.
He clutched the packaging bag in his hand.
I couldn't fall asleep for a long time.

Chapter 45 This is Rhodes Island's most outstanding psychiatrist
One day later, we arrived at Longmen.
Although he had expected it, Lin Ye was still filled with surprise when he first saw Lungmen, mainly because of its level of development. Towering buildings, wide streets, cars weaving through the streets, and crowds of pedestrians—it was a completely modern and economically developed city. Compared to it, Chernobog was just an insignificant little town.
Seemingly noticing Lin Ye's surprise, the ranger in the driver's seat asked, "Haven't you been to Lungmen before?"
Lin Ye nodded: "Yes, I've always stayed in Chernobog. Although I've heard of Lungmen for a long time, I've never had the chance to come."
“Then you’d better take a good look this time,” the ranger said with a smile. “Lungmen is not comparable to Chernobog, and the city’s development is so fast that it can only be described as changing every day. Tsk, I have to say that Lungmen’s rulers do have unique vision and strength.”
"The rulers of Lungmen?"
“Wei Yanwu is considered one of the best leaders in the world,” the Ranger said. “If you have the chance, you might meet him this time, and I believe you’ll be quite surprised. But until then, you should keep an eye on Nightingale; she seems a little nervous.”
Nightingale was sitting beside Lin Ye. She had been sleeping, but he didn't know when she had woken up. Looking at the scenery outside the window, her eyes revealed a mixture of curiosity and fear. Curiosity because Longmen was a completely new environment for her, having lost her memory; fear because the streets were full of unfamiliar people, and she was afraid of strangers.
Lin Ye tried to comfort the nightingale, but to no avail; the nightingale barely responded. Lin Ye then asked the forest ranger, "Where are we going now?"
“Naturally, we should go find Dr. Kal’tsit,” the Ranger said. “Dr. Kal’tsit also has her own laboratory in Lungmen, so let’s go there now.”
"And what about your mission?"
“We’ll take care of that.” The Ranger glanced at Nightingale, who was curled up in a small ball with her legs wrapped around her chest, through the rearview mirror and said, “Don’t worry, another medic is already waiting for us. You just need to stay with the child.”
Lin Ye nodded.
There were seven people in the vehicle, including him and Nightingale. The remaining five were: Melantha, a Guardian Operator resting with her sword; Beagle, an orange-haired Defender Operator chewing gum with a black shield in front of her; and Blackhorn, a male Defender Operator. Blackhorn nodded slightly when Lin Ye looked over, but his expression was hidden because he was wearing a mask. There was also a petite girl sleeping on him; Lin Ye remembered her name was Durin, and she was a Caster Operator. She was the only Operator present who hadn't spoken to him, as she had fallen asleep as soon as she got in the vehicle and had slept for the entire day.
The last one is the Ranger in the driver's seat; he's a sniper operator.
Lin Ye now roughly understood Rhodes Island's squad composition, which was actually similar to many games from his previous life. A qualified squad naturally needed operators who could tank, deal damage, and heal, with a balanced distribution of ranged and melee fighters. The current squad was a good example: two tanky heavy infantry, two ranged attackers (casters and snipers), and one free-slot melee DPS (guard). The only thing they lacked was a medic operator; if Nightingale hadn't been still recovering from her illness and unable to fight, that position would have belonged to her.
But then again.
Although he hasn't been officially promoted yet, Lin Ye himself seems to have been registered by Rhodes Island and become one of their operators.
So what kind of operator is he?
Lin Ye fell into deep thought.
Half an hour later, their car stopped in front of a building, where two fully armed men stood at either end.
“Those are people from the Lungmen Guard,” the Ranger said. “It seems someone from the Guard has come to see Dr. Kal'tsit. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.”
"Troublesome things?" Lin Ye asked. "What kind of troublesome things?"
"I don't know about that." The Ranger tapped the steering wheel and said to the group of agents in the back seat, "Alright, we should get out of the car."
After getting out of the car, two officers from the Guard Bureau immediately came forward, only stepping aside after the Ranger showed his Rhodes Island ID. However, even though they moved aside, their eyes remained fixed on them, watching them walk into the building and into the elevator.
“I’ve always thought the Lungmen Guard Bureau people are too rigid,” Operator Blackhorn said. “They’re only doing this because they know you. The first time I came here, my ID card wouldn’t work; they just wanted to check you. I guess it’s because they know I’m an Infected?”
“They should know. The Lungmen Guard should have its own unique methods to distinguish between infected and non-infected individuals.” Ranger glanced at Nightingale and said, “Dr. Kal'tsit must have given instructions, otherwise even if we revealed our identities, it wouldn’t have been so easy for us to get in. After all, this is their territory, and they provided Dr. Kal'tsit’s laboratory. There’s no use complaining.”
Blackhorn shrugged and remained silent. Standing beside him, Dulin still had his eyes half-closed, looking as if he might fall asleep at any moment, swaying precariously.
Upon reaching the top floor, the group exited the elevator and saw the Guard Bureau personnel again. Their attire was identical, similar to the riot police in Lin Ye's previous life.
"So many people," the ranger said. "Looks like someone important has arrived."
After another series of checks, they were finally able to reach the laboratory. As soon as they arrived at the laboratory door, they heard two women talking.
“I’ve already said it, Rhodes Island has decided to take on this mission, and the team is already on its way.” It was a slightly impatient female voice. “Besides, you shouldn’t keep coming to me with these kinds of things; I’m not in charge of this kind of business.”
“I know.” The cold female voice said, “but please understand the importance of this mission. You are Rhodes Island’s only representative in Lungmen right now, so we have no choice but to come to you. We hope that everyone at Rhodes Island can have a little sense of time.”
After exchanging glances, the group pushed open the door and entered.
Lin Ye followed him inside and saw two women talking in the laboratory.
Both women appeared mature, but this was more apparent in their aura than their physiques. Lin Ye recognized the woman with short, light green hair and cat ears as Kal'tsit, one of Rhodes Island's top administrators. He didn't recognize the other woman with purple hair and a longsword at her waist. Fortunately, the Ranger called out her name in time.
“Looks like we’re a bit late, Commander Chen,” the ranger said. “But we’re definitely trying our best to get going.”
Kal'tsit and Commander Chen both looked over.
Commander Chen's gaze swept over one of the team members, while Kal'tsit's eyes remained fixed on Lin Ye.
"I don't want to say anything more harsh." Commander Chen glanced at the time and said directly, "Come with me directly, I'll hand over the mission to you."
Before anyone could speak, Kal'tsit said again, "Our operators need to rest."
Commander Chen's brows immediately furrowed: "You're already half a day late."
“Actually, no,” Kal'tsit said calmly. “I know very well that Lungmen’s usual practice is to push the actual time forward by two or three days to make us feel the pressure. That’s understandable, but this time the time you gave us is far too short. Our operators traveled all day to get here, and they need to rest. You wouldn’t want them to complete your mission when they’re not in good condition, would you? And such an urgent mission must be very important, so they shouldn’t make mistakes because of fatigue, wouldn’t you agree?”
Commander Chen was somewhat displeased. She turned to the officers and asked, "Do you really need that much rest?"
Kal'tsit once again spoke before anyone else: "Everyone needs proper and sufficient rest, and you are no exception, Commander Chen. I can tell that you haven't slept well for quite some time."
Commander Chen looked at Kal'tsit and asked with a hint of sarcasm, "What? Can Dr. Kal'tsit cure insomnia?"
“Although I would love to say yes, I’m not actually that all-powerful,” Kal’tsit said calmly. “Insomnia can’t be treated with medication alone; it requires a professional.”
Does Rhodes Island have professionals in this field?
“Of course there are.” Kal’tsit nodded.
Lin Ye suddenly sensed something was wrong.
