Chapter Twenty-One: They Can't Be in a Relationship

The pattering of water stopped, and a moment later, the bathroom door opened. A fair-skinned girl wearing plaid pajamas walked out of the bathroom. Her original afro was gone, replaced by long, slightly wavy hair that was wet and draped over her shoulders.

After drying her hair, Nakamori Akina walked to the mirror, first cupping her face, which was slightly red from the hot water, then touching her arms, and sighing, "Sigh, I'm still a bit chubby. I should eat less in the future."

Thinking about this, I felt a little sad. She really loves to eat, especially when she's tired. Food can lift her spirits and make her perform more powerfully on stage.

However, nowadays, all the female idol singers are very thin, and she doesn't want to look chubby, as that would make her appear immature, like a little girl. When she does her makeup, she always asks to be made up in a more mature way.

She stretched and realized it was getting late. Normally she would be resting by now, since she had to go to the recording of a show early the next morning.

But her eyes were drawn to the book she had placed on her dressing table. It was the novel that Kimura Hiroshi had just given her. The word "love letter" almost made her misunderstand. Just thinking about Kimura Hiroshi's slightly mocking face made her want to disappear into a hole. It was too embarrassing.

But she was filled with curiosity about the novel. Why was it called "Love Letter"? Was it really a collection of love letters written by two people?

"I'll just take a quick look then. I wonder what kind of novel the talented Kimura-san can write." With that thought, she picked up the book, lay down on the bed, and started reading.

The story begins with a memorial ceremony held by his fiancée Hiroko and friends and family in the snow two years after his death, when his fiancée Hiroko is dead.

This puzzled Nakamori Akina, a typical underachiever. "Sigh, her fiancé is dead. Is this some kind of supernatural event? The fiancée is writing letters to contact her deceased fiancé?"

This piqued her interest in continuing to read, and she kept reading. It seemed that things were really as she had thought. Her fiancé, Hiroko, saw Fujii Itsuki's middle school address in the class yearbook, and, still unable to let go of her fiancé, she decided to write to that address.

The letter was indeed sent, and someone even replied, which seemed to confirm it as a paranormal event. However, as things progressed, things slowly changed. It turned out that the other woman who replied to her, also named Fujii Itsuki, was in the same middle school and class as the male Fujii Itsuki.

As they exchanged letters, a long-buried memory of their youth was revealed, and the shy, reserved, and even unknown youthful love between the two boys and girls with the same name slowly surfaced.

When the female Fujii Itsuki received the library card from the book given to her by the students at school, and saw the naive sketches on the back, she realized that it was a mutual love affair back then. Unfortunately, fate and the shyness of the two people meant that the female Fujii Itsuki only realized the other's feelings now, while the male Fujii Itsuki never knew the female Fujii Itsuki's hazy love for him until his death.

Although it is a long novel, it is only a few hundred thousand words long. Kimura Hiroshi even added some filler, but Nakamori Akina still finished reading it in a few hours.

After reading it, she was overwhelmed with sadness. The innocent young boy and girl had missed each other. Did they really not know each other's feelings? And what kind of person was Hiroko, who looked just like the female Fujii Itsuki? Did Fujii Itsuki love Hiroko?

Countless questions surfaced in her mind, leaving her feeling sad and somewhat confused.

"It's such a magical and touching love story, but it's so complicated. I can't really understand it at all. Ah, am I really that stupid?" Nakamori Akina thought about these questions as she twisted on the bed, revealing a patch of her cleavage.

Complex questions swirled in her mind, keeping her wide awake. When she saw that it was already 3 a.m., she quickly told herself to stop thinking about it because she had to film a program in the morning. Although staying up late was the norm, she would still try to sleep for a while whenever she could.

Having been in the entertainment industry for almost two years, Akina Nakamori has learned to sleep even with strong distractions. So, even though her mind was wandering, she still managed to fall asleep and was woken up by her alarm clock in the morning.

A busy workday begins in the morning, but Nakamori Akina is clearly not in the right state of mind today. She is usually very serious, but she kept getting distracted during the recording of the program. Her assistant, Ms. Noriko, and her manager, Akiyuki Yoshizawa, both noticed that something was wrong.

"Akina-san, concentrate, don't get distracted." Seeing this, Akiyuki Yoshizawa reminded Nakamori Akina when she went offstage to rest.

Hiroko, the two Fujii Itsuki kept swirling in her mind. Nakamori Akina also knew that she was not in a good state today, so she quickly adjusted herself and said to Akiyuki Yoshizawa, "Akiyuki-san, I understand, I will concentrate."

During the subsequent recording of the program, Akina Mori was in much better condition. With her mind free of distractions, she became much more efficient at work, and the recording went very smoothly.

By 6 p.m., the recording of the program was finally completed. Akiyuki Yoshizawa and his assistant were very happy to be able to leave work early. They drove to take Nakamori Akina home, and then the two of them went home separately.

Once in the car, Akina Nakamori suddenly asked, "Akiyuki-san, is Kimura-san at the company today?"

"Kimura-san? I'm not sure. He's probably filming a music video soon, so he might be here. Do you need to see him?" Akiyuki Yoshizawa replied.

If Nakamori Akina doesn't figure out the relationship between the two Fujii Itsuki and Hiroko today, she thinks she'll still be in a bad state tomorrow, so she has to figure it out today.

“Then let’s go to the company first. I have something to ask Kimura-san, something very important,” Nakamori Akina said, but she didn’t tell Akiyuki Yoshizawa what she wanted to ask.

Hearing that it was something important, Akira Yoshizawa didn't rush home. Instead, he drove Akina Nakamori to the company. After parking the car, Akina Nakamori walked towards the company in a hurry.

Seeing how anxious she was to find Hiroshi Kimura, and considering her demeanor during the recording of the program today, Yoshizawa Akiyuki suddenly had a bad feeling. Could it be that Akina Nakamori and Hiroshi Kimura were dating?

Although Yanyin doesn't oppose idols dating, if these two really get together, it might not be a good thing for Yanyin. After all, they are both top stars and Yanyin's two most important artists. If they join forces, Yanyin might not even be able to keep them in check.

"Is Akina-san in love? I remember when I was her age, I was always rushing to find my senior after school." Assistant Noriko whispered, watching Akina's retreating figure.

Akira naturally heard this. He glared at his assistant and said, "Ms. Noriko, watch your words. Don't talk nonsense. Akina-san is not going to be in a relationship, much less with Kimura-san. Do you understand?"

Assistant Noriko immediately understood and nodded, "I know, Akiyuki-san. I will never say it again. Akina-san could never date Kimura-san."

Chapter Twenty-Two: Then let's put twelve pretty girls in the back.

With his debut album selling over a million copies, Kimura Hiroshi should logically leverage the buzz generated by the single to record an album, including his debut single and a few other mediocre songs, which would be enough to cash in on his fans – a standard tactic.

However, Hiroshi Kimura felt that fans might want to see him more than his albums. Due to the scarcity marketing strategy, he rarely appeared on television or in magazines. He even only appeared once on THE BEST TEN, a music show with explosive ratings.

After being ranked number one for four consecutive weeks, and only appearing on the show once, the TV station was already complaining, not to mention the fans. So, making a music video and selling it might be a way to make more money off the fans.

After all, his handsome looks and extraordinary talent have captivated countless Japanese girls, who would surely be willing to buy and treasure Kimura Hiroshi at home, taking him out from time to time to fulfill their springtime dreams.

The agency agreed to the plan, and the next step was filming. In those days, filming music videos was relatively simple. It was either a recording of the singer performing on stage, edited together, or simply accompanied by scenery, people, and the singer making a brief appearance.

However, Hiroshi Kimura did not want this kind of music video. He wanted to shoot a music film type of music video. This kind of modern music video was pioneered by Michael Jackson last year with his Thriller. This music video is more thrilling, with zombies, werewolves, and a dark and gloomy cemetery. It can be watched as a horror movie.

This kind of modern music video is destined to become mainstream, and Hiroshi Kimura naturally has to follow suit.

However, the production team said they couldn't accept it because they had never filmed it before and didn't know how, and the agency also felt it was too much trouble.

"Since you don't know how to film this type of movie, then film me singing in front of you, with twelve beautiful young ladies in bikinis wiggling behind me, preferably those with great figures."

After talking for a long time, even resorting to using his handsome face to charm, the guys in charge of producing the MV remained unmoved. Kimura Hiroshi, somewhat annoyed, brought out the operation of the Golden Leopard from the CD era: a handsome guy singing and dancing with twelve bikini-clad beauties, a scene that was exciting enough.

His words sent chills down the spine of his manager, Yukio Tomioka, who was standing next to him. If he really did that, the day the music video was released would be the day Kimura Hiroshi suffered a social death, and he would probably only be blacklisted.

"Kimura-kun, calm down, stop talking nonsense. Alright, everyone, please leave now. This meeting is over for now." Tomioka, being a seasoned veteran, knew that if they continued, the situation might get out of control, so he quickly told everyone to leave.

Once everyone had left, Yukio Tomioka breathed a sigh of relief and said to Hiroshi Kimura, "Kimura-kun, please don't say such strange things anymore. If it gets leaked, it will damage your image."

This time it's a problem on Warner's part. The people we sent were mediocre and unwilling to make changes. We'll start recruiting new people immediately to meet your requirements. There's no time to spare this time, so we'll have to film it like this for now.

Although Yukio Tomioka was transferred to Ken-On and became Hiroshi Kimura's manager, he was still a member of Warner Pioneer, so he could still manage this.

Knowing that his requirements couldn't be met for the time being, Hiroshi Kimura could only nod. "Okay, let's film it first. I definitely can't accept it if it continues like this. Also, I've finished writing my two new songs. I'll show them to Warner Music and discuss the arrangements with them the day after tomorrow."

As he spoke, Hiroshi Kimura took out the sheet music for two songs from his backpack and handed them to Yukio Tomioka.

Upon receiving the sheet music, Yukio Tomioka was somewhat bewildered. So fast! It's only been a few days since he said he was going to record two new songs, and he's already written it. Could it be a hastily made product made to refute rumors?

"It's too fast, Kimura-kun, this isn't good," Tomioka said tactfully.

Kimura Hiroshi understood what he meant, but he wasn't angry. Instead, he pointed to the sheet music and said, "You'll see when you take a look. I think Mr. Tomioka should be able to tell whether the piece is good or bad."

Although he was a manager, he still understood sheet music, which was an essential skill for working at a record company. Tomioka began to study it seriously.

The two singles selected by Hiroshi Kimura this time are quite interesting. One is a very upbeat J-POP song called What You Name, which was released by Johnny's Shonentai in 1988. It was later adapted into a song called Green Apple Paradise by the Little Tigers, who imitated Shonentai. It is a pop song that is very much in line with the times.

As for why he chose it, firstly, it was in line with the times and the season, and secondly, he suspected that Johnny's was behind the smear campaign against him. He had no evidence, but that didn't stop him from retaliating first. Copying a song was just an appetizer. Tian Yuanjun, that outgoing guy, couldn't escape either, since he's now also with Johnny's.

Another song is a very heavyweight love song, Ken Hirai's "Gaining Through Losing". This is also a super single that sold over a million copies. The singing skills required are top-notch, and it is very difficult to sing it well. This song was later covered by F4 as "Meteor Shower", which became a huge hit.

These two songs will definitely be hits. It all depends on how popular they become. If they both sell over 500,000 copies, then he will be able to firmly establish himself as a top-tier idol and truly stand on equal footing with Masahiko Kondo.

After reading the sheet music for the first song, Yukio Tomioka breathed a sigh of relief. The song was of good quality. But when he looked at the second song, he had only read half of it when he took a deep breath. The first song was of excellent quality, but it could only be considered a cheerful pop song. However, the artistic value of the second song was instantly elevated. This song was beautiful, and the sheet music actually balanced art and pop, making it top-notch.

"I have to admit my mistake, Kimura-kun. You are absolutely a top-notch composer. Just with this song alone, you have left your own legend in the Japanese music scene. It's really incredible. You couldn't have written this in just a few days, could you?" Yukio Tomioka was completely convinced of Hiroshi Kimura's talent.

"Of course not. I had the idea before, and I just perfected it these past few days. If Mr. Tomioka thinks it's acceptable, then contact Warner Pioneer and prepare the arrangement. It needs to be recorded before the end of July," Kimura Hiroshi said without batting an eye.

“Release both songs at the same time? That’s too extravagant. Why not include them in one album? Warner has a few other good tracks.” Yukio Tomioka suggested. Releasing an album would be more profitable than a single because albums are more expensive. An album costs over 2,400 yen, which is 900 yen more expensive than a single.

This is a good suggestion. Kimura Hiroshi doesn't have much conscience towards Japanese fans; he's only in it for the money. So he nodded and said, "Okay, Mr. Tomioka, put 'What You Name' and a few other songs on an album, with this song as the title track. 'Gaining Through Losing' will be a single, but don't release it yet. Wait for an opportunity."

"Huh?" Yukio Tomioka didn't understand what Hiroshi Kimura meant.

“Just listen to me, Mr. Tomioka. Our enemies are still lurking in the shadows. We need to make use of them,” Kimura Hiroshi said with a sneer.

Upon hearing this, Yukio Tomioka understood and said with a smile, "You're really cunning, Kimura-kun. I really don't know how your brain works."

Once the arrangements were finalized, Tomioka took the sheet music and headed to Warner Pioneer to make preparations. Meanwhile, Kimura Hiroshi, having spent a long time arguing with the MV production team, was a bit tired and wanted to relax in the lounge before heading back. However, as soon as he stepped out of the meeting room, he saw Nakamori Akina rushing over.

Chapter Twenty-Three: The Violent Diva

"Sigh, is this what Akina-san came all the way here to ask?" Kimura Hiroshi didn't expect that he had just given her the novel yesterday, and she had finished reading it in one night and even came over to ask him who Fujii Itsuki really loved.

Seemingly realizing she was making a mountain out of a molehill, Nakamori Akina was a little embarrassed. She shifted her body slightly, put on a fake smile, and said in her cute singing voice, "I just want to know, Kimura-chan. Please tell me, or I won't be able to sleep tonight. Please, Kimura-chan."

Seeing her like this, Hiroshi Kimura found it funny. This kind of pretending to be cute is her specialty. She can often be seen using this trick to try to get away with it when she says something wrong on a show.

"Alright, for the sake of the adorable Akina-chan, I'll tell you. But be prepared, this answer might be beyond your imagination," Kimura Hiroshi said with a mischievous grin, determined to tease the innocent Nakamori Akina.

Immediately, the little girl sat up straight, looked at him and said, "I'm ready, please speak, Kimura-san."

Clearing his throat, Hiroshi Kimura began, "Actually, Hiroko and female Fujii Itsuki are the same person."

"Huh?" This answer stunned Nakamori Akina, who stared wide-eyed at Kimura Hiroshi in disbelief.

"Hiroko actually fell in love with her fiancé's best friend. In order to be with him, she arranged for an accident to kill her fiancé. However, this caused her great inner torment. She knew that her fiancé loved her. To alleviate this guilt, she imagined a female Fujii Itsuki to numb herself and make herself believe that her fiancé loved that woman, not her."

This statement is extremely dark, completely shattering the original novel's nostalgia for youthful love and grief over the loss of her fiancé, turning it into a beautiful lie woven by a wicked woman to cover up her crimes.

After hearing what Kimura Hiroshi said, Nakamori Akina was completely devastated. She felt like her worldview was collapsing. The love story she had been struggling with all day was actually fake, and it was actually a vicious story.

"Is...is that really true?" Nakamori Akina's face turned pale as she asked uncertainly.

Knowing that he had really scared her, Kimura Hiroshi felt that his wicked plan had succeeded and couldn't help but burst into laughter. This girl, after more than a year in the entertainment industry, was still so innocent, not at all like the girl A in her songs.

Hiroshi Kimura was laughing so hard that he clutched his stomach and sat there, panting heavily.

At this moment, Nakamori Akina realized that she had been tricked by Kimura Hiroshi. She was furious and stood up. She rolled up her sleeves, pointed at Kimura Hiroshi, and cursed in her unique voice, "You damned Kimura brat, you wicked bastard, I'm going to beat you to death!"

He was about to give Kimura Hiroshi a few vicious punches when he came over, but Kimura Hiroshi was not about to take the beating quietly. He immediately stood up and ran around the table.

"Stop! Stop right there! Do you hear me? If you run again, I'll really show you what I'm capable of!" She said, gesturing with the muscles on her arms as if she were really that powerful.

There was no air conditioning in the rest room, and the weather in July was very hot. After running for a short while, Nakamori Akira was covered in sweat. Knowing that she was suffering from summer heat, Kimura Hiroshi quickly stopped and said to her, "Okay, okay, don't hit me. I'll tell you who Fujii Itsuki really loves."

Having been thoroughly deceived, Akina Nakamori wasn't about to let him off the hook. She grabbed him and gave him two slaps on the shoulder. Seeing Hiroshi Kimura wince in pain as she hit him, she immediately stopped, her clenched fist turning into a rubbing hand.

"Did it hurt?" Akina Nakamori asked with some concern.

Shaking his head, Hiroshi Kimura grinned and said, "No, I just had a fight with the MV production team, and my back is aching. I'll have Akina-san give me a massage."

"Oh dear, why did you argue with the production staff? Kimura-san is such a kind person." Nakamori Akina asked with concern while rubbing her hands.

"You really do care about others," Kimura Hiro quickly said. "It's alright now, Akina-san. Ah, what I said earlier was just a prank. Actually, I wrote a story about love and death."

Fujii Itsuki's greatest love was a woman named Fujii Itsuki, who shared his name. I think he loved Hiroko, but not as deeply. However, with Fujii Itsuki's death, all love turned into nothingness with no place to rest.

At this point, everyone should let go and embrace a new life. If you really don't want to have any regrets, then you should express your love at the right time. Unrequited love may seem beautiful, but in the end, you may only get bitterness and endless regret.

Of course, this story is the most unfair to Hiroko, so I made her let go of everything and pursue the love that suits her best, instead of continuing to be a shadow for the female Fujii Itsuki.
