"But after spending some time with you, I realized that you're not the kind of person I imagined... You're very hardworking and serious, learning and growing little by little, which makes me feel like... like I'm seeing my former self..."
"I realized my problem. Without realizing it, I was being led astray by negative emotions and gradually became the kind of person I used to hate the most... Thankfully, I woke up in time..."
"Only after removing those unpleasant filters did I see the most authentic you, and I rediscovered my original aspirations..."
"So I'm very sorry, very sorry for the trouble I caused you before..."
Holm, with a "complex" expression, recounted his personal journey, revealing his ugly past self to Daisy without reservation.
Whenever Holm caught a glimpse of Daisy's pursed lips and tense face, and her brown eyes filled with complex emotions, he knew that he had finally managed to perfectly cover up this flaw.
As Holm and Daisy were talking, the meteorite in the center of the crater below began to show subtle changes.
The undulating motion in the center of the meteorite, which had been slowly rising and falling, gradually stopped.
With a barely perceptible sound, a clump of viscous black liquid finally seeped out from inside the meteorite, invisible to the naked eye, and penetrated directly into the ground beneath it.
These changes were so subtle that they were imperceptible, and neither Holm nor Daisy noticed anything unusual.
Although Holm's heartfelt performance had ended, Daisy's mind was still filled with memories of the past, and complex emotions continued to rise within her.
Her doubts were completely dispelled by Holm's narration, and in her mind, Holm's previously unfavorable image had changed, becoming more three-dimensional and vivid.
After this exchange, they can be considered true colleagues and friends.
Chapter 10, The Voice from Within
"Phew~" Holm let out a long breath, feeling that he had talked too much and his throat was a little dry.
His self-analytical account and sincere expression of emotion completely answered Daisy's doubts and even salvaged much of her previously lost image.
Although Daisy looks cold and serious, she is actually very simple and kind. She even took the initiative to comfort Holm later on, which made Holm's old face feel a little hot.
I don't know why Daisy became a secret agent. Apart from her naturally cold and pretty face, she has nothing in common with the cunning, cruel, cold-blooded, and cautious nature of a secret agent.
The telescope had now been returned to Holm's hands, and as he continued to observe the meteorite, he suddenly felt something touch his leg.
His instinctive agent reaction made him instinctively dart away from the scene, but when he turned around to take a closer look, he found that apart from Daisy, who had become alert after being startled by his actions, there was nothing else on the scene.
"What's wrong? Is something unusual?" Daisy asked Holm, looking at him with a serious expression.
Holm didn't speak, but stared at the spot where he had just been, then slowly squatted down, his right hand swiftly reaching out like an iron clamp to grab a small, entirely green snake.
"It's alright now, thankfully it's just a green snake." Holm said as he tied the green snake in his hand into several knots and then threw it away with force.
Upon seeing that it was just a snake, Daisy's tense body relaxed; she had thought there was some danger.
However, Holm's reaction was indeed very quick, which amazed Daisy. She still had a lot to learn.
Holm breathed a sigh of relief and was also satisfied with his own reaction; his body's response had not changed because of his rebirth.
After the minor incident, Holm continued to observe the meteorite through his binoculars, but what he saw next made him notice something amiss.
"Daisy...did you notice that the breathing-like undulations in the middle of the meteorite seem to have stopped? Was it like this when you observed it just now?"
After their recent conversation, they no longer kept their distance as before, and their way of addressing each other changed.
As Holm spoke, he handed the binoculars to Daisy, who then began to observe with a serious expression.
After a moment, she said in a deep voice, "It does seem to have stopped. When I was observing it, it was still fluctuating slightly, but it has slowed down a lot."
Hearing Daisy's words, Holm rubbed his chin and said, "It's a bit strange, but considering the previous records, it seems normal."
"According to the records, the meteorite was very active when the two witnesses saw it, but by the time the young policeman went to check, it was only undulating in the middle. It's normal that the undulation has gradually stopped now."
"Anyway, I've been keeping records from the beginning, so I can just hand them over when they arrive."
As Holm and Daisy were talking, a mechanical roar began to grow closer.
Before long, a machine the size of an excavator appeared not far from them.
Wherever this machine passes, the trees are pushed aside or crushed, leaving only the compacted, hard road surface.
The vehicle pulled over and stopped, revealing the convoy following behind.
S.H.I.E.L.D. acted very quickly, sending not only agents at all levels but also relevant researchers.
As soon as they got out of the car, they immediately got to work, wearing protective suits to surround the entire crater, and then built a simple laboratory layer by layer around the meteorite.
This was the first time Daisy had ever seen S.H.I.E.L.D. operate like this, and she blinked her beautiful big eyes with great interest as she looked around.
Beside her, ever since a man got out of the car, Holm's gaze was involuntarily drawn to him, fixed firmly on him.
Grant Ward.
Holm was certain that this man was definitely involved in his death, because from the moment he saw him, his heart started racing for no reason, and he became increasingly nervous. He was nervous and afraid.
This feeling made Holm extremely irritated, because he had no recollection of Grant Ward and therefore no other reaction.
All the reactions his body is producing now are natural bodily responses, instinctive reactions to Grant Ward that are left over from the previous Holm and this body.
"Damn it! We're both Hydra agents, and he's only one level above me on the surface, so why is he reacting like this?" Holm thought to himself as he tried to control his body, forcing it to suppress this damned stress response.
The old Holm is dead; the current Holm is a new Holm, a new life dominated by an Eastern soul.
Holm kept repeating his thoughts, and gradually, the fear and tension that he loathed faded away.
At the same time, a voice suddenly grew louder in his mind.
"Kill him! Kill this guy!"
"How can I be afraid? Afraid of this guy? Kill him! Kill him!"
Strange thoughts were growing wildly in Holm's mind until Daisy's voice interrupted him, pulling him out of his chaotic thoughts.
“Are you daydreaming? Mr. Ward is as kind as ever. He doesn’t seem to care about what happened that day. You can rest assured,” Daisy said to Holm, waving her hand in response to Grant Ward’s smile.
Holm then readjusted his expression, smiling and waving at Grant Ward.
Faced with Holm's normal reaction, Grant Ward's face flashed with an unusual emotion.
The change was subtle, but Holm noticed it keenly, which made his suspicions even more certain.
“You acted swiftly and reported very comprehensively. Now we’ll hand this over to the professionals. Your mission is complete,” Grant Ward said to them with a smile.
His eyes narrowed slightly when he smiled, and combined with the stubble he had deliberately grown, he gave off a surprisingly approachable vibe.
Although he is tall and strong, when he smiles, you only think of him as a憨厚大熊 (a kind of憨厚大熊, meaning a ...
Daisy really liked the way Grant Ward was acting, which is why she kept saying that she thought Grant Ward was a very kind person.
But Holm isn't her, so how could he possibly believe that a Hydra agent infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. as a Level 7 agent would be a benevolent figure?
Holm could see the hypocritical glint in those slightly narrowed eyes, and the cruelty and cunning hidden beneath that kind mask.
After exchanging a few words with Daisy, Grant Ward sent her away to attend to other matters.
Then he turned his head, opened his slightly narrowed eyes, put away his fake smile, and looked at Holm, speaking in an icy tone.
"How dare you look at me like that!"
Chapter 11, The Rampant Growth of Killing Intent and Violent Emotions
"Have you forgotten your true identity after wearing the s.H.I.E.L.D. agent's skin for so long?"
Grant Ward said coldly, looking at Holm who had bowed his head slightly.
As he spoke, his large, bear-like hand touched the back of Holm's neck.
The iron-like hand pressed down there, and although he didn't exert any force at all, it made him feel suffocated.
The familiar feeling instantly caused Holm's body to tremble uncontrollably once again.
It's hard to imagine what this body had gone through with Grant Ward to produce such a terrifying stress response.
Despite the trembling in his body, Holm felt no fear whatsoever; instead, he felt a growing sense of humiliation and an irrepressible urge to kill.
"Kill him!"
"Kill him!"
"We must kill this guy!"
Holm lowered his head even further, not wanting Grant Ward to notice the barely suppressed murderous intent in his eyes.
Grant Ward was very pleased with Holm's bowed head and constant trembling, which represented his absolute control over Holm.
"Remember who you are. Don't let me see that look in your eyes again, or you know the consequences," Grant Ward warned in a deep voice as he tightened his grip slightly.
After issuing the warning, Grant Ward withdrew his hand and looked at Holm, whose body was gradually returning to normal, and continued, "Why is there still no result for the guy I asked you to deal with last time? I should have emphasized the urgency of this matter to you."
"If we can't get what he has back or if it gets leaked, the consequences will be more than you and I can bear."
"Seeing how confidently you took on this task, I thought there would be results soon, but now I have to say you've disappointed me a bit."
At this point, Grant Ward's eyes turned cold.
"I'll give you three more days. If there's still no result after three days, you can end it yourself."
"Do you understand?"
"Understood," Holm said, his head slightly bowed and his voice a little hoarse.
“Look me in the eyes,” Grant Ward said to Holm.
Holm looked up at Grant Ward, his face pale and tense. He was enduring a headache caused by the sudden surge of memories, which made his already rudimentary acting skills even more realistic, preventing Grant Ward from noticing anything amiss.
Grant Ward looked at Holm with a hint of disdain in his eyes, then said in a deep voice, "Hail Hydra!"
"Hail Hydra," Holm replied in a deep voice.
......
After the handover of the meteorite matter was completed, Holm left the suburban forest and drove home alone.
During his conversation with Grant Ward, fragments of memories he thought had disappeared suddenly resurfaced, almost causing him to faint on the spot.
Although the process was somewhat painful, his memories were finally pieced together completely, and his past memories finally unfolded before him like a complete painting.
He remembered the connection between Holm and Grant Ward, and he also remembered why he had died at home.
Grant Ward was Holm's instructor and superior in Hydra. Holm's stress response to him came entirely from years of "meticulous instruction." Even though Holm was now browsing these memories as an observer, he could still feel how cruel those methods and training were.
This kind of agent is definitely not someone an ordinary person can be, especially a Hydra agent.
