Although in the original manga they seem to be used to add fun to the cover stories, they probably won't have any more role in the future.
But Robert couldn't really think that way. After all, he wanted to develop the moon into a strong rear base that could be attacked or defended at any time. He couldn't rest easy if others had the technology to travel back and forth at any time.
As the bomb exploded, Robert discovered that these space pirates were actually blown to pieces.
Even according to his Observation Haki, these space pirates were independent beings with their own thoughts. He never expected that he would misjudge them.
He subconsciously reached out and touched the old man's shoulder, and an electric current passed through the old man's body, giving him a full-body scan.
The old man shuddered from the electric shock and couldn't speak. Robert was even more puzzled: "Are you alive?"
His words startled the old man, who stammered as he replied, "Of course I'm alive! Who are you?"
Robert was even more surprised: "You can understand human speech?"
Seeing that Robert seemed to have a good temper, the old man immediately put on a stern face.
Robert glanced sideways at the space pirates recovering from the explosion, and with a casual wave of his hand, the entire area surged with electricity.
The old man was so frightened that he was speechless. By the time his eyes adjusted from the glare, all the space pirates were lying motionless on the ground, emitting black smoke.
Robert looked like he had just realized something: "I was saying that Enel wiped out all the space pirates with one lightning strike. I thought it was because the space pirates had low mental attributes and no magic resistance. Turns out they were all robots."
The old man was terrified when he saw Robert casually and easily kill all the space pirates with him.
Robert gave him a half-smile: "Don't move around here."
After saying that, he disappeared in a flash. The old man wouldn't listen to him. Seeing him leave, he first tentatively took two steps, and when he found that Robert didn't stop him, he immediately ran away.
Before he could run more than a few steps, he saw lightning and thunder ahead, with only the dazzling light of lightning in the sky. The old man was so frightened that he stood frozen in place. He knew that direction all too well; it was the base where the space pirates were digging up the lunar ruins.
The old man trembled and dared not move. His group was a small team that had come out to explore other parts of the moon, while the rest of the space pirates were all in that ruins excavation base.
Based on the strength Robert just displayed, all the space pirates combined wouldn't be enough to kill him in one move. The old man's only hope is to get back before Robert discovers the others, and then call everyone to escape.
Judging from the current situation, it seems that all the space pirates there have been wiped out.
Robert's voice rang out behind him: "This is interesting. Your pirate crew has over a hundred people, and you're the only human. The rest are robots. Can you tell me how that's going on?"
The old man was so frightened that he knelt down on the ground, not daring to look at Robert even once: "You are a god! You are the legendary god!"
Robert said coldly, "I left one alive to get some useful information out of him, not to listen to your nonsense. There are countless people in this world who would worship me as a god, and I don't need you."
The old man quickly composed himself and said tremblingly, "Ask me anything, I'll tell you everything!"
Robert said coldly, "Wait here, and don't make a move this time."
The old man knelt on the ground, not daring to move, until he felt himself enveloped by a huge shadow. He glanced sideways out of the corner of his eye and saw a huge spaceship pass overhead and slowly land on the moon.
Robert returned to the old man's side, grabbed his shoulder, and leaped onto the deck of the Ark of Proverbs. He then sat on the golden throne and coldly watched him.
"Tell me who you are first."
The old man stammered, "I am...I am a native of the Infinite Land...we..."
Robert sneered, and in an instant, lightning flashed, causing the old man to convulse and collapse to the ground.
"Of course you can lie, but you can't let me see through you. Once my patience runs out, I don't have to ask anything. I can just kill you all and then you'll be no threat."
The old man, his eyes brimming with tears, said, "I'm telling the truth. We are children of the infinite land, returning home after thousands of years. And you..."
Robert's tone was chilling: "You're a native of the Infinite Land? Then why don't you have wings?"
The old man looked up in terror: "I...I am a man abandoned by God..."
Robert waved his hand impatiently: "Don't just give me random answers when I ask you a question. Just tell me the whole truth!"
The old man said with a mournful face, "More than a thousand years ago, the resources of our hometown were exhausted. The God King sent two teams, one to the lower realm to see if there was any possibility of habitation there, and the other to fly to a more distant place to find a habitable planet."
"We've been flying for hundreds of years without finding a suitable place to live. The ship has run out of supplies, so we have no choice but to turn back."
"Later on, the exploration team had no women left, and even reproduction became a problem. I was the last member of the exploration team..."
Robert looked on incredulously: "You mean you kept searching and breeding, eventually wiping out humanity, so the team is all robots?"
The old man nodded with a sense of grievance: "I finally returned to the hometown that my ancestors spoke of before I died, but I didn't expect that there was no one left in the infinite land. So we wanted to see if they left any information before they left, so that I would at least know where my people went."
Robert pointed to the huge blue planet that was visible to the naked eye: "They're all there, alive and well. I really don't believe what you're saying. Look at that ball, it's so big and round, so close and so beautiful. Why do you want to go elsewhere to find a colony planet?"
The old man also looked puzzled: "People can live in the lower realm now? Impossible. Since the other exploration team succeeded, why didn't they send us a message to come back?"
Robert felt he was about to uncover some incredible secret: "Why do you think that planet is uninhabitable?"
"Because of the sun's afterglow!"
Chapter 16 These are not the lowest-ranking engineers, they are the cornerstones of my pirate crew!
On the precious tree Adam in Elbaf is a mural with three mysterious passages from the Halle Codex.
Robert, after all, only traveled through time after the Elbaf arc was updated, so he had some understanding of these three accounts.
The old man's knowledge was limited to history from a thousand years ago, corresponding to what was called the First World in the Halley's Codex.
According to him, the destruction of the First World was caused by the misuse of a weapon similar to a nuclear bomb.
Therefore, people on the moon would rather send people to explore deep space than dare to easily try to migrate to the radioactive earth.
And that weapon is called the Sun!
The lunar inhabitants sealed away the sun's energy source and developed an energy system based on electricity. Relying on this clean energy, their technological development has progressed by leaps and bounds.
However, the moon is too small and resources are too scarce. It will run out of energy in a few hundred years and has to find a new way out.
Robert's mind raced: "How many years have you lived, old man?"
The old man said with a mournful face, "I'm already 113 years old this year, I don't have many decades left to live."
Robert stretched out his hand: "Wait a minute, you're over a hundred years old, and you still haven't lived for several decades? How old do you usually live to be?"
The old man counted on his fingers: "My parents both died when they were over two hundred years old, and my grandparents lived to be over two hundred and thirty years old. It is said that because the conditions on the exploration ship were too harsh, our ancestors could live to be four or five hundred years old."
Robert was almost in tears. If someone who lived to be two hundred years old found conditions difficult, what about Earth? The lower Ganges?
"Let's not talk about this anymore, it's too upsetting to hear. By the way, what's your name?"
Seeing that Robert's attitude wasn't as intimidating as before, the old man calmed down: "My name is Lantz..."
Robert felt the old man wasn't telling the truth, but he really didn't care about a name; it was just a title.
"Alright, Lantz, you don't need to look for your ancestors anymore. I'll just tell you directly: they've all moved to live on that blue planet."
Lanz was taken aback at first, but then gave a wry smile of relief: "I actually guessed it. Although the lower realm is very dangerous, it's better to die young than to run out of energy."
Robert asked, puzzled, "Shouldn't the question of what to eat be a priority than energy? It doesn't look like a place where we can grow food."
Lanz asked in confusion, "Grain?"
Then he suddenly realized: "That's right, the lower realm is still stuck in the most basic way of solving the food problem by relying on the natural growth of crops, but the people of our infinite land have completed the reconstruction of matter through technology, and most civilians rely on food reconstructed by machines to survive."
Robert was starting to have doubts. He had only heard that the technology of the Great Kingdom was extremely advanced 800 years ago, and even now, after so much time has passed, there is still a huge gap of hundreds of years between them.
But he never imagined that the generational gap could be so huge. The lunar civilization had been working on material reconstruction thousands of years ago, while the mainstream technology in the One Piece world is still something like water trains.
"You mean the majority? What about the rest?"
Lantz's gaze towards Robert grew increasingly strange: "The rest are all elites, so naturally... they'll be directly replenished with more efficient energy..."
Robert restrained himself and stopped asking questions. He still wanted to keep the old man in line, and asking too many questions would make him look like a country bumpkin, which would be difficult to handle.
"What's in those ruins over there? You must have been digging for a long time now."
Lanz looked dejected: "They must have left quite calmly, taking away most of their stuff and leaving behind only some useless mechanical engineers."
Robert's eyes lit up: "Robot sappers? What can they do?"
Lanz said with a look of disdain: "The machine engineers are the lowest level of laborers. Although they can operate all the processing industries, now that there are no assembly lines, they can only process by hand, which is very inefficient. Most importantly, there is no energy, so they can't even activate them."
Robert patted Lantz on the shoulder with a sinister look: "Lantz, you're my prisoner now. Come on, take me to the ruins!"
Having just witnessed Robert's ruthlessness, Lantz dared not disobey him. He was lifted up by Robert and jumped off the Ark Proverb, quickly arriving at the gate of the ruins.
Lanz pointed to a set of equipment in the ruins and said, "This should be a complete engineering equipment charging warehouse. It was completely abandoned and left behind when they left."
"That's the equipment used to power the engineers. When the energy was depleted, the first thing to be shut down was these low-level engineers who consumed energy but produced little value."
Robert smiled. "Energy? How much can we use?"
He spread his arms, and bolts of lightning surged from his body. Electricity flowed along the densely packed tracks on the ground and walls into the small compartments embedded in the walls. The mechanical soldier's eyes emitted specks of light, illuminating the entire underground space.
Lanz opened his mouth wide, his gaze towards Robert a mixture of fear and awe.
Until all the underground machine soldiers awoke, their eyes fixed on Robert, who was constantly releasing electricity, as if they were looking at a god.
"Langz, how can I let them all work for me?"
Lantz said respectfully, “Sir, although the machine engineers are low-level, they have complete intelligence. By providing them with energy, you are essentially in control of their life and death, and they will naturally serve you as their master.”
Robert, as if he had found a new toy, cleared his throat and said, "Everyone, listen to my command! First, search the entire moon... I mean, the infinite land, and see if there's anything else usable!"
All the robotic soldiers saluted in unison, then lined up and walked out of the underground ruins, beginning to spread outwards in a very orderly manner from this point.
Robert was overjoyed and couldn't help but say to Lantz, "Lantz, wouldn't you like to go and see that blue planet?"
Robert regretted his words as soon as he finished speaking. He knew he couldn't take Lantz to Earth. Lantz had too much information about the moon, and if the World Government found out, they would quickly master the technology to land on the moon. Then Robert's escape route would be insecure.
But Lantz shook his head vigorously, saying, "I won't go! I only have a few decades left to live, I can't go there! My lord, please, I know a lot of technology, please don't send me to the mortal realm!"
Robert was surprised by the old man's strong reaction and asked, somewhat puzzled, "Is it really that scary to you? Your ancestors have been gone for over 1000 years, and things are actually quite nice there now, okay? Don't make it sound like you'll die if you go there."
Lanz swallowed hard. "Really? What's the average lifespan in the lower realms now?"
Robert casually replied, "They're probably in their seventies, eighties, or nineties..."
Lanz: Isn't this scary?
Chapter 17 just landed, before my phone had no signal.
There is more than one ruin on the moon. Although Robert arrived several months late, the space pirates did not expect that others would come, so they slowly excavated only this one place.
With a massive number of robotic engineers, Robert found numerous factories and buildings buried underground. The entire lunar surface was riddled with craters, showing no signs of human habitation. But it's easy to imagine that a planet that once had a large population couldn't possibly be without any buildings.
So when Robert learned that the entire interior of the moon had actually been hollowed out, he wasn't surprised at all.
When Robert sent the robotic engineers out, his intention was to have them search for other ruins.
