“How could this machine possibly have a mechanical malfunction?” Nakamori said to his subordinates. “Search! Find Kidd at all costs.”
Seeing how tense Inspector Nakamori was, Jirokichi Suzuki shook his head helplessly. Perhaps because he had failed too many times, this officer had a mysterious obsession with capturing Phantom Thief Kid.
The entire scene was quickly searched, but the officers found nothing.
“I knew it!” Suzuki Jirokichi laughed heartily. “Even if Kaito Kid really came, so what? With those three traps, he can’t escape.”
As he spoke, Jirokichi Suzuki pressed a few buttons on the screen. "Look, the mechanism wasn't triggered, which means Kid wasn't here."
And beneath their feet
At this moment, Kaito Kuroba was about to curse. He dared not utter a single word, fearing that the person above him would discover his presence. Moreover, there was nowhere to move around in this dungeon; he could only sit halfway. It seemed that he would need Mr. Shinjo's assistance to escape.
Hopefully, Mr. New Town will return soon, or he'll starve to death in this dungeon.
Just then, he felt something in his pocket; it seemed to be a Bluetooth headset. He put it on, and his colleague heard the headset turn on, but he dared not speak, afraid of being noticed by his superiors.
Just then, he heard something else that filled him with despair: that idiot Nakamori had actually made his subordinates stand guard around the jewels.
Chapter 339 Machine Gun
"Don't be nervous," Karen's voice came through the earpiece. "During afternoon tea time, Jirokichi Suzuki will invite Inspector Nakamori and his subordinates for afternoon tea and desserts. That will be your chance to escape."
"I hope so," Kidd sighed softly.
Since Officer Nakamori has decided to stand guard, he certainly won't leave easily. Even if he does leave, someone will have to take his place, such as the bodyguards from the Suzuki family.
Soon it was afternoon tea time, and the airship staff began serving afternoon tea desserts and black tea.
"You guys, hurry up and finish eating, you still have to go back to your posts," Nakamori said to his subordinates.
"Yes!" His subordinates had barely finished speaking when they began to eat the cake in front of them with their forks.
“Inspector Nakamori, why don’t you enjoy it slowly?” Suzuki Jirokichi said with a smile. “My men are guarding the jewel, so nothing will go wrong.”
“That’s true, but Kidd could very well take advantage of this time…” Before Inspector Nakamori could finish speaking, Jirokichi Suzuki’s phone rang.
Seeing the word "Non-Notification" displayed on his phone, Jirokichi Suzuki frowned. Who would call him at this hour? Nevertheless, he answered the call.
"I've already spread killer bacteria in the spaceship's smoking room." The voice on the other end was a male voice with a distorted voice.
"What did you say, you bastard!" Suzuki Jirokichi stood up instantly, and Kogoro Mouri and Inspector Nakamori next to him also stood up immediately.
"If you don't believe me, look under the sofa on the left." The person on the other end hung up the phone as soon as they finished speaking.
"Uncle, what's wrong?" Sonoko asked, somewhat puzzled.
"It's nothing, just a prank call," Suzuki Jirokichi replied with a smile, though the smile seemed somewhat forced.
Suddenly, Jirokichi Suzuki's voice came over the loudspeaker at the Sky Observation Deck, saying that the red Siamese cat had invaded the airship and that the bodyguards needed to go down and help. The bodyguards discussed the matter briefly before making a decision: two of them would stay behind to guard the jewels, while the rest would head to the cockpit.
Their job is to protect Jirokichi Suzuki's personal safety; as for the jewels, who cares?
Since Mr. Suzuki Jirokichi brought out the Lady of the Sky, it means he was prepared for the jewel to be stolen.
The bodyguards had just left when, a second later, smoke billowed from the fire hydrants above the observation deck. Two bodyguards, who had just noticed the anomaly and hadn't even had time to take out their alarms, collapsed to the ground.
Shin-chan looked down at Kidd and said, "I can open the display case for you, and you can run away with the jewels right now."
"Come on, I'm Phantom Thief Kid. I said I'd come to collect it this evening, and I'll come this evening," Kid said irritably. "I didn't expect you to bring out even a red Siamese cat just to save me."
“I have nothing to do with the red Siamese cat; they’ve been eyeing this airship for a long time.” Xincheng lowered two steel cables, and two packages fell from them with a thud.
"This is……"
“Weapons,” Shinjo said with a smile. “They’re militants after all. Once you’re up there, remember to take care of the steel cables for me. Oh, and if you can, hide those three kids.”
"What about the others? For example, that kid named Conan, and that girl named Ai Haibara."
"Those two? They're actually the same age as you," Xincheng said with a smile. "Go ahead, there's no one on the Heavenly Ladder right now."
“Okay!” Kidd suddenly realized something, “Those guys might actually be carrying bacteria, right?”
“Unlikely.” Shinjo picked up a device that resembled a Gatling gun and carried a huge magazine on his back.
"Is that a machine gun?"
"The guns are those with a caliber of 20mm or less, this is a machine gun," Shinjo patted his equipment. "An old relic from World War II, a 20mm machine gun produced by the Solothurn Company, slightly modified. Time was tight, I couldn't get an M61, so I'll just make do with this."
"you……"
“Those guys are all wearing bulletproof vests, so ordinary bullets aren’t very effective against them. I’m all alone, so I have to use some special methods.” Shinjo held the machine gun. “This thing is really heavy.”
Kidd opened his mouth, unsure what to say for a moment. Was that the point? All he could do now was mourn for these terrorists.
"Karen, pick up Megure for me." After watching Kid leave, Shinjo went straight to the covered bridge.
“But Mr. Mori’s phone is already ringing,” Karen asked. “Should I hang up for you?”
"No, answer the call for me. I want to see what he has to say." Shinjo wanted to stretch, but his equipment was too heavy and he needed to find a place to secure it.
"Brother Shinjo, where are you right now? It seems the red Siamese cat has its eye on the airship." Kogoro Mouri said quickly and urgently.
"Oh? How did you know?" Xincheng asked with a smile.
"The people from Red Siamese Cat have called Mr. Suzuki. They said they spread deadly bacteria in the smoking room."
"Oh, turn the phone on speakerphone."
"it is good."
"Hello, hello, this is Shinjo, can you hear me? Inspector Nakamori, Mr. Suzuki." Shinjo's voice came through the microphone.
"You are, Mr. Shinjo?" Officer Nakamori immediately recognized the owner of the voice.
"Hey, Officer Nakamori, your voice sounds great, you're in good spirits," Shinjo said with a smile. "I've already heard the general situation from Mori, but I have two questions I'd like to ask you all. Who put the virus in the smoking room, and where on the ship are the protective suits?"
"The virus is of course the red Siamese cat..." Kogoro Mouri paused halfway through his sentence.
"Besides the staff, the only other people on the spaceship are the invited guests and the police." Suzuki Jirokichi immediately understood. "You mean the red Siamese cat is playing a trick on us?"
“Not necessarily. There might be people from the Red Siamese Cat organization among the staff,” Nakamori said seriously. “The Red Siamese Cat’s infiltration of the National Institute of Microbiology in Tokyo went very smoothly. There might be a mole within the institute who has been bribed.”
“OK, so the first problem is solved. The virus was planted by an insider. Now, the second problem: are there any hazmat suits on the airship?” Shinjo pointed the machine gun forward. This was the only passage from the jet bridge to the cabin. If they sealed it off, they could take care of all those guys.
"A hazmat suit?" Nakamori was taken aback. "What would you need that for?"
“The red Siamese cats are paid to do things, they’re not an extremist organization, and there are no fanatics for them to use as suicide bombers.” Shinjo nodded as he looked at Vermouth walking towards him. “Without protective suits, who would dare to open an ampoule containing bacteria?”
"what do you mean……"
"That ampoule should be real, and it should be the same type as the one they left in the research institute's parking lot. However, the bacteria inside that ampoule are fake; I think it's something like lacquer that can cause a reaction."
“Raw lacquer?” Nakamori’s voice suddenly rose. “Are you sure? This is no joke.”
“I can’t be sure, but there’s a high probability that’s the case. Also, I have a list of people who have been to the smoking room here,” Shinjo said with a smile. “I’ve already sent it to Kogoro Mouri’s phone. You can isolate them and give them antibiotics.”
"antibiotic?"
“What was stolen was anthrax. Antibiotics are the best medicine to deal with this kind of bacteria.” Xincheng chuckled dryly. “As for why the mortality rate is so high, it’s because the early symptoms of inhaled anthrax are very similar to those of a cold, so people don’t take it seriously. By the time it’s discovered, it’s already in the middle or late stages, and organs are failing.”
“I understand!” Nakamori opened the list and then said to his two subordinates, “Isolate all the people according to the list. As for the interrogation, leave that to the next team. We’re going to the smoking room.”
Soon, Takamichi Fujioka and the two waiters were taken to their respective rooms for quarantine.
Takamichi Fujioka was clearly unwilling, but after seeing the two menacing policemen, he finally gave in.
Over here, Shinjo had already hung up the phone, the machine gun muzzle was aimed at the emergency escape window, and the bipod was already deployed. Karen had already inquired with the First Investigation Division for him, and they indicated that they could proceed as they saw fit.
"Are you planning to use this on the red Siamese cat?" Vermouth said through gritted teeth. "Who said we shouldn't ruin the children's trip?"
"As long as they don't go to the Sky Observation Deck, they won't see the bloodshed here," Xincheng said with a smile. "Here it comes!"
The escape hatch was opened from the outside, and two fully armed personnel came down. After confirming the situation, they immediately gave hand signals to both sides. After all seven people came down, a "thump thump thump" sound was heard.
The next second, one of the armed men's heads disappeared, leaving two others with a severed hand and a huge gash in their chest; their bulletproof vests had provided no protection whatsoever.
"Take cover! Trap!" Before the man who looked like the commander could finish his orders, his head was gone, and his body fell straight down.
The remaining three dragged the wounded man to the back of the airship, but by then they were completely panicked.
"What the hell is that?! Why didn't the bulletproof vest work?!" a member of the Red Siamese Cats said through gritted teeth. "Didn't that guy say everything was normal and he wasn't exposed?!"
“It should be a machine gun,” another mercenary said with a dark face. “I just took a look, and it looks like a modified FALK 38 machine gun manufactured by Solothurn!”
Before they could finish speaking, the thumping sound rang out again; the enemy was aiming at the steel plate where they were hiding.
"We can't go on like this!" one member said with a dark face. "If it really is a machine gun, this iron plate won't be able to stop it."
As if to prove his point, a machine gun bullet pierced through the iron plate and punched a hole in the top of the airship.
"Is that guy crazy? Does he want everyone on this ship to die with him?" the crew member closest to the bullet hole cursed. "If the airbags explode, we're all going to die!"
"Hey, you guys down there, listen up!" one of the crew members shouted down to Shinjo, "If you don't want everyone on this ship to die, let us out! Otherwise, we'll blow up these airbags!"
Before he could finish speaking, a machine gun shell pierced the wall, taking away his right hand and causing him to let out an extremely shrill scream. He instinctively tried to stand up, but his head was already outside the bunker, and half of it was sliced off by the machine gun fire.
The remaining two members immediately realized what to do and fired at the airbags almost simultaneously. The two airbags quickly began to leak, and the bullet holes soon merged into a single line.
However, their firing also revealed their position. Shinjo didn't hold back and sent the two men straight to their boss. The only valuable thing these men had was the cell phone their boss used to trade with Fujioka Takamichi. As long as the phone was safe, their lives didn't matter.
"Could you use a normal weapon next time?" Vermouth asked, looking at the steel beam riddled with bullet holes.
“Machine gun bullets aren’t armor-piercing enough; we need to use incendiary armor-piercing rounds.” Shinjo shrugged. “Besides, we’re inside an airship. It would be bad if stray bullets punctured the airbags. The trajectory of the machine gun is easier to control.”
At this moment, an alarm sounded in the cockpit inside the airship, and the two airbags had stopped inflating.
Shinjo took out his phone and dialed Kogoro Mouri's number.
"Shinjo, we've got the ampoule now. We've confirmed with the Metropolitan Police Department that the two ampoules are identical." Before Shinjo could even speak, Kogoro Mori bombarded him with a barrage of questions after receiving the call.
"Okay, okay, I understand," Xincheng said with a smile. "Don't worry, it'll be fine."
"What are you doing?! We've already found the ampoules, what they said is true!" Kogoro Mouri was getting impatient. "Those guys really did spread bacteria on the airship! What are you doing...?"
“Those guys just entered the airship through the escape exit on top, there were seven of them,” Xincheng said with a smile. “Six of them have already been killed, and the last one is still alive, but his arm is broken, so he probably won’t live much longer.”
"Clam?"
“These people aren’t carrying gas masks.” Shinjo said as he climbed the stairs. He pulled a cell phone from their leader. “Their commander has a cell phone that uses coded communication. These people are probably not Red Siamese Cats; they’ve just been hired to impersonate Red Siamese Cats’ mercenaries. Their employer should be on the ship, but their name is unknown.”
"What did you say?" Nakamori asked nervously. "Are you sure?"
“That’s for sure, and they don’t have gas masks. They’re only wearing ordinary tactical gear.” Shinjo checked the only survivor. “The guy who’s still alive is in shock. I’m at the airship’s escape exit. You’d better bring a first-aid kit.”
