Chu Zihang's expression instantly turned cold, and the light in his golden eyes was so sharp that it almost pierced through the surrounding darkness.
"Search separately! Watch your step! Keep communication going!" The order was short and urgent.
Fingel nodded immediately, holding the exaggeratedly shaped flamethrower, the beam of his powerful flashlight like anxious tentacles, frantically scanning the ground and walls, trying to find any unusual trace.
"Lu Mingfei! Frillie! Answer me if you hear me! What the hell is this place?!"
Master Zhu and Junior Sister Lingdang immediately sprang into action. Lingdang's compass was pushed to its limit, the pointer trembling wildly as it tried to detect the faint fluctuations left by the spatial teleportation. Master Zhu held several talismans between his fingers, chanting incantations as he sensed the flow of "qi" around him.
"The energy is chaotic, and the space is layered with layers of obstacles. The formation was activated extremely quickly, and its traces are rapidly dissipating!" Master Zhu said solemnly. "We must locate it as soon as possible!"
Chu Zihang forced himself to calm down, sheathed Murasame, and focused all his attention on sensing the surroundings.
His Word of Power wasn't the type to excel at investigation, but his extraordinary senses and combat intuition allowed him to carefully discern every anomaly in the air.
Chu Zihang crouched down, his fingers brushing across the ground where Lu Mingfei and Frilian had just stood. It was cold, rough, and devoid of any residual energy.
The magic array was so sophisticated it was astonishing.
"This way!" Lingdang suddenly exclaimed, and the compass needle abruptly pointed to a direction on the left tunnel wall. Although the needle was still trembling, its direction became much clearer.
The four of them immediately moved quickly in that direction. However, just as Lingdang took her third step, trying to pinpoint her location more precisely, a seemingly ordinary stone slab beneath her feet suddenly lit up with the same faint yet complex light as before.
"Junior sister, be careful!" Zhu Daoda exclaimed in alarm, sweeping his whisk out to pull her back.
But it was too late. The light flashed and disappeared in an instant. Before the bell could even cry out, it blurred and vanished.
"Bell!" Master Zhu's eyes widened in fury as he lunged forward, only to grasp at thin air.
Almost the instant he lost his composure due to shock and anger, another teleportation array suddenly lit up beneath his feet.
"Oh no!" Chu Zihang and Fingel reacted at the same time and rushed over to try to help, but they were too far away.
Master Zhu only had time to see Chu Zihang and Fingel's alarmed faces rapidly receding and distorting in his vision before a dizzying, vertigo gripped him. The tearing force of space acted on his entire body, and he could even feel the stinging pain of his protective aura being easily twisted and torn apart.
"boom!"
A heavy thud followed, accompanied by the slightly polluted air and noisy chatter typical of subway stations.
Master Zhu was dazed and confused after the fall. He struggled to get up and found himself sitting on a bench in a bright, clean subway station filled with modern advertising light boxes and announcements.
The passengers around him were bustling about waiting for the train. Some people glanced at him curiously, wondering how this person in a Taoist robe, who had fallen and looked a bit disheveled, had appeared, but they didn't pay much attention and quickly looked away.
"Senior brother?" came the voice of junior sister Lingdang, trembling with tears and utter confusion.
Master Zhu turned around and saw his junior sister, Lingdang, lying on the ground next to him, her hair disheveled, rubbing her arm in a daze as she looked around at her surroundings.
"We... what is this?" Master Zhu helped his junior sister up, looking around in disbelief.
The familiar "XX Station" sign, the screen displaying train information, and the security guards in uniform.
Everything indicates that they left that eerie and terrifying underground world and returned to the normal surface.
"We've been sent out?" Lingdang's voice was still trembling; she hadn't recovered from the violent spatial shift and the shock. The compass in her hand had returned to calm, pointing steadily north and south.
Master Zhu quickly checked himself and his junior sister; apart from a slight pain from the fall, they were otherwise unharmed. His expression shifted several times before finally settling into a long sigh.
“It seems that Nibelungen is not entirely chaotic. It selectively rejected us.” He recalled the magic circle that activated without warning and the irresistible spatial force. “It does not welcome us, or rather, our power system is incompatible with it, and it is regarded as foreign by its ‘rules’ and forcibly removed.”
Lingdang understood, her face turning pale: "Then, Senior Brother Chu, Mr. Fingel, Lu Mingfei and Miss Frilian."
Master Zhu shook his head silently, his face grave. Their expulsion meant that Chu Zihang and the others were still trapped in that strange space, their fates unknown. And they couldn't even find their way back.
"Senior brother, what should we do?" Lingdang asked helplessly.
Looking at the hurried crowd on the platform, Master Zhu felt a deep sense of powerlessness. Their Taoist magic was sufficient to deal with demons and ghosts, but against terrifying beings involving spatial rules and the Dragon King's domain, they were utterly helpless.
"This is beyond our control," he said bitterly, patting his junior sister's shoulder. "For now, we can only hope that Fellow Daoist Chu and the others are blessed with good fortune and will be able to turn misfortune into good luck. Let's leave here first, report the situation, and perhaps Kassel College will have a solution."
The two exchanged a glance, both seeing the worry and helplessness in each other's eyes. They could only turn away silently and leave the subway station, which they had just returned to in such a bizarre way, with the flow of people.
Deep in the Nibelung roots.
After Master Zhu disappeared, Chu Zihang and Fingel found themselves in a state of heightened vigilance and isolation. They stood back to back, not daring to move easily.
"Damn it, President Chu Zihang, does this godforsaken place even pick and choose who gets teleported?" Fingel cursed, cold sweat soaking his back. "The Daoist Master and Junior Sister were thrown out? What about us? Is it our turn next?"
Chu Zihang did not answer. His golden eyes, like the most sophisticated radar, scanned every inch of the surrounding space. He could sense that the hidden teleportation arrays were not entirely random, but contained a filtering mechanism that he could not understand.
"Click," suddenly, his foot sank slightly.
Again!
"Fingal! Get out of the way!" Chu Zihang shouted in a low voice, and jumped to the side.
Almost simultaneously, light also shone beneath Fingel's feet.
Both of them tried their best to avoid it, but the range of the magic array was larger than they had expected, or it was activated in a more targeted manner.
Chapter 182 Distinguished Guests Eat KFC
Chu Zihang felt an immense, irresistible pulling force acting on his body, and his vision instantly distorted and blurred. In the last second before he completely lost consciousness, he saw a chaotic burst of flames and shouts erupt from Fingel's side, before being swallowed up by another distorted light and shadow.
Clang, clang.
The familiar, rhythmic sound of wheels turning reached my ears.
Chu Zihang opened his eyes, rolled over and sat up, his Murasame sword half-drawn, assuming a defensive stance. His strong willpower allowed him to quickly recover from the dizziness of the spatial teleportation.
He found himself standing on a dimly lit platform. It was old-fashioned, with a greenish glow, much like the abandoned platforms he had passed through before.
But the difference is that in front of us is an old train.
The carriage door was open, and a faint green light shone from inside.
Right at the car door stood two people he hadn't expected.
Although the man and woman looked haggard, their clothes were tattered, and they carried a deep sense of exhaustion, Chu Zihang recognized them instantly—Gao Mi and Wan Boqian, Class A agents from the Executive Department of Kassel College who had gone missing a few weeks ago while investigating clues about the King of Earth and Mountains in Beijing!
"Chu Zihang?" Gao Mi recognized him and looked extremely surprised. "What are you doing here?!"
Wan Boqian exclaimed in shock, "The academy sent you? No, you're alone?"
She looked behind Chu Zihang, but there was no one there.
Chu Zihang quickly sheathed his knife, but his vigilance remained: "Senior Brother Gao Mi, Senior Sister Wan Boqian. After you went missing, the academy organized a search and rescue operation. I went in with the other team members, but we all got separated."
He succinctly explained the situation: "Where exactly is this place? This train."
Gao Mi and Wan Boqian exchanged a glance, both seeing the bitterness and helplessness in each other's eyes.
"There's no time to explain, come in!" Gao Mi waved urgently. "The train is about to leave, it's dangerous to stay outside the platform!"
Wan Boqian added, "This is a relatively safe place within the 'rules,' but the rules must be followed!"
After a moment's hesitation, Chu Zihang decisively stepped onto the train.
The seats were covered in dust, the light was dim and green, a European man with a blank stare was in the corner, and another familiar face was huddled in his seat, looking terrified—Zhao Menghua.
When Zhao Menghua saw Chu Zihang, it was like seeing a lifeline; she almost burst into tears, but dared not speak loudly.
"Hiss," the shadows at the junction of the carriages rippled, and the cloaked, claw-tipped Deadpool dealer slid silently into existence.
Chu Zihang's muscles tensed instantly, his golden eyes locked onto it, and Murasame emitted a buzzing sound once more.
"Don't be impulsive!" Gao Mi immediately pressed down on his arm and whispered, "It's a 'dealer,' the enforcer of the rules. Don't attack it, or you'll be instantly eliminated by the rules!"
Wan Boqian quickly explained, "This train is one of the core areas of the Nibelungen. The rules are 'game' and 'chips.' Each of us starts with 10 chips."
She pointed to the several dark coins floating in front of her, "You win chips by playing with the dealer or other people. When you have a certain number of chips, you can ask the rules to let you leave. But once you lose them all..."
She didn't finish speaking, but her eyes said it all.
Chu Zihang instantly understood the situation. A cruel cage where life was the only stake.
The two red lights from the Deadpool dealer swept over everyone, finally settling on Chu Zihang.
Instead of giving off the cold, urging feeling it had towards others, it leaned forward slightly.
To everyone's astonishment, Deadpool, with its scaly claws, produced from nowhere a paper bucket with the KFC Colonel logo and a glass of iced cola covered in water droplets.
It carefully placed the family bucket of still-warm fried chicken and the iced cola on the seat in front of Chu Zihang. Then, it pointed at the food with its sharp claws, then at Chu Zihang, and finally made a slightly clumsy gesture of "please enjoy."
The entire carriage was deathly silent.
Gao Mi and Wan Boqian were dumbfounded.
Zhao Menghua's mouth was so wide open it could fit an egg.
Even the "professor" who had been staring blankly shifted his gaze.
Chu Zihang was completely stunned. His golden eyes were filled with unprecedented confusion.
The Deadpool dealer, fearing he wouldn't understand, added in a low, hoarse, metallic voice, haltingly and with great difficulty:
"...Distinguished...guest..."
“…Master…orders…”
"...You...don't need...the game..."
"...Please...enjoy..."
Master? Command? Distinguished guest? No game required?
Chu Zihang frowned deeply. This was completely beyond his comprehension. This "master" of the Nibelungs should undoubtedly be the king of the earth and mountains. Why would the Dragon King treat him as a "distinguished guest"? And even send him a KFC family bucket?
He had absolutely no recollection of ever having such a relationship with any Dragon King.
Gao Mi and Wan Boqian's gazes toward Chu Zihang also became extremely strange.
Chu Zihang was silent for a moment, looked at the bucket of fried chicken, and then at the several people around him who looked haggard and had been thirsty for a long time.
He didn't touch the fried chicken, but looked up at the Deadpool dealer, his voice calm and even: "Where are my companions? Lu Mingfei, Frilian, Fingel, and two Taoist priests."
The Deadpool dealer's red light flickered, unable to understand or answer the question, only repeating, "...You...are...a distinguished guest...please...enjoy..."
Chu Zihang knew he wouldn't get any more information. He stopped looking at the deadbeat dealer and instead opened the KFC family bucket, the aroma of golden, crispy fried chicken immediately filling the air.
He picked up a spicy chicken wing, but instead of eating it himself, he handed it to Wan Boqian, who was closest to him and looked the worst.
"Senior sister, let's replenish our energy."
Then he picked up the original recipe chicken and handed it to Gao Mi: "Senior brother."
He even took an egg tart, hesitated for a moment, and then handed it to Zhao Menghua, who was trembling in the corner and watching expectantly.
