Fingel immediately shut up and made a zipping motion.
Chu Zihang turned his gaze from the departing tour group to Lu Mingfei and Frilian. "The situation is more complicated than we thought. In addition to the academy and potential enemies, there is now an uncontrollable third-party force."
An announcement came over the airport's public address system, reminding passengers to collect their luggage.
Chapter 135 A Gathering of Stars
Almost at the same time that Lu Mingfei and his group left the airport terminal, a low-profile but high-performance Gulfstream G650 private jet taxied onto the tarmac at Beijing Capital International Airport.
The plane had no conspicuous markings and was pitch black, like a raven with its wings folded.
The hatch opened, and the first thing to step out was a long leg wearing black tactical trousers and military boots.
Mai Shude stepped off the gangway, wearing a black combat uniform that allowed for easy movement, over which was a long trench coat that accentuated her breathtaking figure.
Her long black hair was tied in a high ponytail, and she wore large sunglasses that covered most of her face, revealing only a glimpse of her red lips.
The dry, cold air in Beijing made her squint slightly, but she quickly regained her usual chill.
There's no need to wait for luggage; all the equipment has already been delivered and arrived in advance.
She simply carried a long, black hard case that looked like a musical instrument case and walked toward the black SUV that was already waiting nearby.
This SUV is also unassuming in appearance. Although it is a common domestic brand model, a closer look reveals that its tires are thicker than those of ordinary models, the windows are darker, and the chassis is exceptionally stable.
Mai Shude opened the car door and nimbly climbed inside.
The interior space has been modified, making it quite different from its plain exterior.
Comfortable leather seats, a wraparound display screen, a small wine cabinet, and the faint aroma of hand-ground coffee permeating the air.
"Potato Chip" Su Enxi nestled in the passenger seat, her feet, clad in expensive cashmere socks, casually resting on the dashboard.
Holding an ultra-thin laptop in his hands and wearing Bluetooth headphones, he spoke rapidly in fluent Chinese and English, interspersed with various financial terms:
"Yes, place orders and buy them all. Increase leverage by 0.5. No, don't alert them, understand the 'boiling frog' strategy? Release the yen now to recoup funds. I want to see that company's stock price fall below the floor price before 3 PM. OK, done."
Fingers swipe rapidly across the touchpad, while the screen displays a dazzling array of complex candlestick charts and data streams.
Only after pressing the Enter key did she finally let out a long sigh of relief, take off one earphone, pick up the steaming coffee from the cup holder next to her, take a sip, and then lazily turn her head to look at Mai Shude, who had just boarded the bus.
"Hey, long legs, you got here pretty fast. Haven't you had enough of the cherry blossoms in Tokyo yet?" Su Enxi's tone carried her unique languidness.
Mai pushed her sunglasses up to her forehead, revealing a pair of alluring eyes, and carefully placed the long box at her feet. "The boss's task takes priority. Besides, I prefer watching fireworks to flowers."
She glanced out the car window, "especially those huge fireworks that can blow a hole in the sky."
Su Enxi chuckled and turned the laptop screen towards Jiu De Mai, "The fireworks budget is really painful for me. We just spent another nine figures, which has caused some trouble for our dragon-slaying warriors."
The screen displayed several fluctuating stock market charts and some company logos. Mai Shude, uninterested in financial operations, glanced at them and asked, "Just how outrageous is the situation right now? I just received a briefing on the plane saying that Beijing is becoming a mixed-race team-building base?"
"Team building?" Su Enxi rolled her eyes dramatically. "It would be more accurate to say it's the World Cup final or a superhero offline gathering!"
He tapped a few times on the keyboard, bringing up a real-time updated 3D map covered with countless points of light, each representing a monitored individual with exceptionally high lineage activity.
"Look, the Capital Airport, one of the hardest-hit areas. The Nordic group that just arrived, more than two hundred people, with an average bloodline rating of B+. They are led by several old Nordic families, very arrogant, thinking they are reincarnations of Vikings." Su Enxi zoomed in on the image and marked Paulson and others' information.
"Several low-profile mixed-race families in China have also become restless, sending their elite members here under the guise of training, but in reality, they want a share of the pie. There are also lone wolves from Europe and America, violent gangs from Russia, and mercenaries from South America. There are even a few yakuza organizations that have smuggled themselves in from Japan. Do they think they can fool me?" Su Enxi's tone was tinged with disdain.
She swiped the map, and the areas where the dots gathered stretched from the airport to major hotels in the city, some old alleyways, and even the mountains in the suburbs.
"According to intelligence network statistics, the number of organized mixed-race individuals with a bloodline rating of C or above who have clearly entered Beijing and the surrounding areas has exceeded three thousand. This does not include the scattered individuals who came to try their luck and the local thugs who have been alerted."
"Three thousand?!" Even though she was somewhat prepared, Mai Shude was still taken aback by the number. "Do they think Fenrir is some kind of mascot at an amusement park? Queuing up to grind dungeons?"
"Who knows?" Su Enxi shrugged. "Perhaps they were blinded by the words 'Dragon King,' perhaps they were overconfident in their own power, or perhaps they just thought this might be the last and grandest carnival and gamble in the history of hybrids. If they win, they'll gain the merit of slaying the dragon, fame and fortune, and might even obtain the Dragon Bone Cross, rising to the top in one step; if they lose, at worst they'll just have a worthless life. It's just a gambler's mentality."
She paused, her tone becoming slightly more serious. "The key issue is that these people are a mixed bag, with different motives and vastly different styles of doing things. Some still try to follow the rules, while others are completely unscrupulous. They've already clashed several times over the so-called entrance to the ancient records, but fortunately, it hasn't caused too much of a stir and has been suppressed by the local authorities as a gang fight or a brawl between foreigners."
Jiude Mai sneered, "A bunch of rabble, they've really awakened Fenrir, but they're not even worth a breath from him."
“But it’s enough to muddy the waters and add countless variables to our plans,” Su Enxi continued. “The boss’s meaning is very clear: the Dragon King’s power must be guided and controlled. It must not fall into the hands of these fools, nor can it be allowed to be easily obtained by the Secret Party. Our mission is to ensure that the fireworks are launched at the right time, in the right place, and in the right way.”
"What about Kassel College?" Mai asked. "They sent an advance team, they should have arrived by now."
She remembered Lu Mingfei and the others she had just glimpsed in the airport surveillance footage.
"Hmm, a bunch of little guys, thrown in as scouts. The leader is Lu Mingfei, along with an interesting elf lady, plus our young master Chu and that good-for-nothing Fingel." Su Enxi pulled up the surveillance footage of Lu Mingfei and the other three leaving the airport. In the footage, Fingel was munching on a bucket of instant noodles, completely lacking any sense of decorum.
"It's impossible to expect them to control the situation. They'll be lucky if they don't get torn apart by these three thousand hungry wolves," commented Mai Shude.
“So the pressure is on us,” Su Enxi said, taking another sip of coffee. “I have to stay here and use money and intelligence as a whip to try to guide and restrain these mad dogs, at least to prevent them from tearing down Beijing before the Dragon King wakes up. And you, Long Legs.”
She glanced at the long box at Mai's feet. "You need to go to the site and keep an eye on things. Find the most crucial point and make sure the door opens smoothly, and only we can get in. If necessary."
Su Enxi made a throat-slitting gesture, her eyes icy cold. "Get rid of these blind flies. I've prepared all your equipment, the latest stuff, with a few extra boosts. It should be quite effective against tough guys."
“Understood. I prefer doing it myself to sitting in the car watching a screen.” Mai Shude patted the box next to her. “I brought the equipment too, I hope I’ll have a chance to use it.”
Su Enxi nodded, her gaze returning to the screen. "Alright, report complete. You can get lost now. I need to quickly invest the money I made from shorting the stock, book two medical device companies; they'll probably be packed soon. Oh, and I also need to 'donate' some money to a few key traffic captains and hospital directors to ensure our actors can move around smoothly."
Mai put her sunglasses back on, picked up her suitcase, and got out of the car with a deft step.
The black SUV drove away silently, merging into the traffic flow in Beijing.
Mai walked toward another black motorcycle that had been prepared beforehand.
She straddled the vehicle, secured the long suitcase to the side, and with a roar, the engine sped off towards downtown Beijing.
A massive storm, involving three thousand dragon-slaying warriors, the advance team from Kassel College, and the behind-the-scenes duo of Jiu De Mai and Su Enxi, is slowly gathering over this ancient capital.
At the eye of the storm, the king of the earth and mountains, who had been sleeping deep underground, turned over.
Chapter 136 World's First Kill
The black motorcycles moved like ghosts through the traffic in BJ at dusk. Mai Shude was a skilled driver, always managing to dodge those heavy cars by the slightest margin. She controlled the engine to a perfect degree, displaying power without being overly ostentatious.
The wind blew her long hair, which was tied up, back behind her head. Her eyes, behind her sunglasses, observed the road conditions ahead and the surrounding environment. Her brain was processing the information that Su Enxi had just transmitted, including the coordinates of the locations and information of the people who needed to be prioritized.
"Ding!" The miniature communicator inside the helmet emitted a specific encrypted notification tone; it was Su Enxi.
"Potato Chips, what's up? I'm on my way to the first location." Mai Shude slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road so she could make a clearer call.
Instead of Su Enxi's lazy and slightly teasing voice, what came through the headphones was a rare tone of frustration and disbelief, accompanied by the clattering of fingers on a keyboard in the background, as if she were venting her emotions.
"Long legs, forget about those points for now. I just received direct instructions from the boss." Su Enxi paused, seemingly preparing herself mentally, "A new, and absolutely top-priority instruction."
Mai Shude frowned slightly. "Absolute command? Content?"
It can't be a small matter if potato chips speak in this tone.
The boss's instructions are always clear and direct, but the word "absolute" means there is no room for negotiation and the task must be completed regardless of the cost.
Su Enxi took a deep breath and said, almost word by word, "The boss requires that in this operation against Fenrir, the King of Earth and Mountains, the one who ultimately kills him must be Lu Mingfei himself. I mean, personally, with the final blow, he must completely end Fenrir's life. No one else, including Chu Zihang, including Frilian, including us, including those three thousand idiotic cannon fodder, or even the boss himself if he suddenly decides to jump in, is acceptable. Only Lu Mingfei."
"..."
A moment of silence. Only the low growl of the motorcycle engine and the sound of the wind rushing past the headphones.
Mai even doubted whether she had misheard, or if Su Enxi was joking. But Su Enxi never joked with absolute commands.
A few seconds later, Mai Shude finally spoke, "Potato Chips, are you sure you didn't mistranslate the boss's riddle? Or did you just steal a sip of that 30-year-old bottle I hid in the liquor cabinet?"
"I wish I were drunk!" Su Enxi exclaimed, somewhat exasperated. "The boss's exact words were, 'Lu Mingfei must be the only one to kill Fenrir.' He repeated it three times! Do you think I understood it correctly?"
"Why?" Mai Shude asked the most crucial question succinctly. She had slowed down completely and pulled over to the side of a relatively quiet side road.
"What exactly does the boss want to do? You and I know Lu Mingfei's current level better than anyone! Sending him to face a fully-formed Dragon King? And to kill him? What's the difference between that and throwing a piece of fresh meat into a dinosaur's mouth and expecting it to choke to death?"
She knew Lu Mingfei had potential, and had even unleashed astonishing power in certain extreme situations. But those were more like uncontrolled, tightrope-walking coincidences.
Facing an awakened Dragon King with full authority, especially the Earth and Mountain King known for his defense and strength, Lu Mingfei would be committing suicide if he went up against him now, without a doubt.
"I asked!" Su Enxi said irritably. "Guess what the boss replied? 'This is the predetermined path of fate, and only his blade can cut through the shackles of destiny and open up new paths.' What the hell is that all about?! Riddler, get out of Gotham!"
Mai could imagine Su Enxi furiously tapping the screen on the other end.
She also felt a headache coming on. There was no doubt that the boss was powerful and unfathomable, but his occasional, prophetic commands always left those who carried them out feeling incredibly troubled and confused.
“Fate? Destiny?” Mai Shude pondered these two words. “Does the boss mean that there is some special connection between Lu Mingfei and Fenrir? Or that only Lu Mingfei’s qualities can ensure that Fenrir is completely killed, rather than resurrected in another form?”
This is the only explanation that makes some sense. Within the secrets of the dragon race, there are indeed some seals or killings that require specific conditions to complete.
"Who knows? Maybe the boss just thinks it's more dramatic and interesting?" Su Enxi said sarcastically. "Anyway, that's the order. The question now is, what should we do?"
The difficulty of the mission instantly increased from hell mode to impossible mode.
The original plan might have been to guide the situation, exhaust the various forces, find an opportunity for them, or together with the people of Kassel, to deliver a fatal blow to Fenrir, or at least control the situation and wait for the boss's next instructions.
Now, not only do they have to find a way to save Lu Mingfei's life in front of three thousand hungry wolves and a real dragon, but they also have to do everything they can to create conditions, and perhaps even put the knife in his hand, hold his hand, and let him complete that earth-shattering final strike.
This is practically asking a kindergarten child to shoot down the enemy's supreme commander with a toy gun on the battlefield of World War II.
Mai Shude could even foresee countless unexpected events that might occur during the process.
What if Lu Mingfei is terrified? What if he gets hit by a stray bullet? What if another hybrid gets there first? What if Chu Zihang or Frilian accidentally kills the Dragon King while trying to protect him? What if Fenrir sneezes and kills him?
"The boss has really given us a huge problem. This means that all our plans have to be scrapped and started from scratch. The primary objective has changed from controlling or killing the Dragon King to ensuring Lu Mingfei's survival and completing the kill."
“That’s right.” Su Enxi also calmed down and entered analysis mode. “We need to reassess all the risks. Those three thousand idiots are no longer just a distraction. Any one of them, if they try to steal kills, will become our elimination target. Chu Zihang and Frilian are both a shield to protect Lu Mingfei and may also become potential competitors. We need to find a way to limit their output, but we can’t let them get into trouble, otherwise Lu Mingfei will die even faster.”
She paused, then added the most troublesome point: "Most importantly, we still need to find a way to strengthen Lu Mingfei, or at least make him believe he can do it. Psychological suggestion? Temporary empowerment? Or do we have to rely on him to have a sudden burst of brilliance at the crucial moment? Damn it, I hate these kinds of uncertainties the most!"
Mai thought for a moment, then restarted the motorcycle. "Plan changed. Chips, you analyze immediately whether there is any weakness or mechanism against Fenrir that only Lu Mingfei can trigger or utilize among all the known intelligence? Even legends, fables, or even unfounded guesses are fine."
“It’s already being investigated!” came the more rapid keyboard clicks from Su Enxi’s end. “Database comparison, cross-analysis of myths and legends, even some Nordic runic poetry. Give me some time.”
“Secondly,” Mai continued, “we need to immediately implement the highest level of real-time monitoring and protection for Lu Mingfei. Deploy our people around him and eliminate potential threats. I will personally be in charge of close support.”
"Understood. The three individuals are in place and can be mobilized. I will also closely monitor all unusual movements through city surveillance and financial flow data."
Finally, prepare Plan B.
"Plan B?" Su Enxi was taken aback.
"If, at the last moment, Lu Mingfei is truly unable to do it, or if someone else is about to kill him first, then we will take action, regardless of the cost, severely injuring or even temporarily controlling Fenrir, but leaving him with his last breath. Then, we will hand the knife to Lu Mingfei and tell him to strike."
Su Enxi paused for a few seconds, assessing the plan's audacity and feasibility. "This is incredibly difficult to execute. And how will we explain it afterwards?"
"That's a matter for later. Let's complete the boss's absolute orders first. As for the explanation, let the boss figure it out himself."
She twisted the throttle, and the motorcycle once again shot into the traffic like an arrow, its direction subtly changing. It was no longer heading towards the spot where the mixed-race people gathered, but towards the hotel where the Kassel College group was staying.
"Alright, Chips, keep in touch. The babysitter plan is now upgraded to the super nanny plan. Let's begin the most outrageous dragon-slaying tutoring in history. Objective: Help S-class freshman Lu Mingfei successfully complete his dragon-slaying homework."
