Chapter 1: Let's Change the Map and Calm Down

Amestris was a military-ruled state.

In the central city of the country.

Inside the president's office, a middle-aged man wearing an eye patch was processing official documents. Although the man had an honest and simple expression, he exuded an aura of authority without being angry.

The middle-aged man is the president of this country—King Bradley.

While he was still reviewing documents, a teenager suddenly kicked the door open and entered.

The boy's black hair was styled with bangs that covered one eye, while his other black eye shone with excitement.

"Boss, what brings you here from the East City? Are we finally going to take action against those trash like Cleta?" Completely ignoring the fact that the person in front of him was the President, the young man walked straight to the President's side, grabbed a chair, and plopped down.

"Please call me President, Colonel Isaac," the President said helplessly to the young man before him, seemingly used to his eccentricities and rudeness. "We have no intention of waging war against Cleta."

"Oh? So, is it that your son Selim was bullied at school? Wow, daring to bully the young master, they don't know what death is. Don't worry, boss, I'm quite good at disciplining kids, like that little brat from Risenberg, I often..."

"Stop, Colonel Isaac," the Führer interrupted the boy's rambling.

"I asked you to come here today because I want you to go on a business trip. Hmm... it's a bit far."

"Where are you going? What are you doing? How far is it?" The boy named Isaac was unusually serious.

"Go to the continent of Tersis and support the Kingdom of Leiden Sheftrich." The Grand President took a sip of tea and slowly stated his purpose.

Isaac had heard of that place before. It was located east of Amestris, across the desert, through the New Kingdom, and across the sea. It was very far away. There seemed to be a magical profession there called something like "Auto Memory Doll."

"Boss... are you out of your mind? You want me, a colonel and a state alchemist, to go and provide support in a place that has absolutely nothing to do with us?" Isaac's face, which had been full of anticipation, instantly fell.

"Don't say that, there's something going on in that country..."

“It would take me a month to get there, by train and by boat. That’s more than enough time for me to get north and smash those bastards in Dorakma to pieces.” Isaac seemed dissatisfied with the president’s statement.

Doracoma and Cleta are two countries located to the north and west of Amestris, respectively, and they are constantly plotting against the region, with small-scale conflicts occurring frequently.

"Don't be so irritable. This support is of great significance to us. We'll have to trouble you, Colonel. Here are your exit documents and your entry permit from the Kingdom of Leidensheftrich." With that, the President handed Isaac two documents with a friendly smile, giving him no chance to refuse.

Isaac looked at the document in his hand; there was a piece of paper on it with information about a soldier.

"The Bronze Alchemist—Stephen Andev? Isn't that the State Alchemist of the Confederate Army?"

"He's defected; we hope you can take care of him."

"To take action against a former colleague, that..." Isaac seemed to hesitate.

"Can't do it?"

"It costs more."

"Haha, no problem, you can go without worry. Oh, there's one more thing." As he spoke, the president took out another document and handed it to Isaac.

"Alright, don't blame me if something goes wrong." After glancing at the document, Isaac, though very unhappy with the president's decision, still took the job. After all, as a soldier of this country, he had to obey orders from his superiors, and more importantly, he didn't want his pay to be withheld.

"Wait a moment."

"Is there anything else?"

"Here, take this. It should be helpful to you," the President said, handing Isaac a small piece of red gemstone.

"..." Upon seeing the gem, Isaac remained silent for a moment, then waved and left without saying anything.

After Isaac left looking dejected, the president's previously gentle face suddenly turned sharp, and at that moment, a voice came from behind him.

Is it really a good thing to let such a valuable 'talent' leave?

"He will come back; he has a very strong desire for knowledge and status."

After leaving the presidential office, Isaac went straight to the National Central Library, as he needed to make some preparations before setting off.

Isaac is 17 years old. Many people question why a 17-year-old boy would become a colonel in Amnestoris, but in fact, he earned his rank step by step.

The boy didn't know who his parents were. He was found on the northern border when he was young and taken to Brick Fortress by a very fierce woman. Then, he became a soldier in a daze.

Having received little formal education since childhood, coupled with the "survival of the fittest" mentality instilled in him by the Northern Army, Isaac's attitude towards the enemy was always: eliminate them if possible, and if elimination wasn't possible, at least take a piece of their flesh.

By chance, he learned alchemy and, in the meantime, 'defended' against small-scale illegal incursions by Drakmar.

During that defense, none of the enemy's thousands of troops survived.

After passing the State Alchemist exam, he was transferred to the Western Army and participated in Clayta's operations multiple times. In the same year, he was transferred to the Eastern Army to participate in the Ishvalan annihilation campaign.

Keep in mind that he was only 12 years old that year, yet he was already skilled at using weapons to kill people. It's a testament to how much influence the environment has on a person.

Although obtaining the rank of brigadier general at this age is something many people dream of, he was still called a "madman" or a "war maniac" by his colleagues behind his back. Not everyone can accept becoming a butcher at such a young age.

“Hughes, I’m going out for a while, it might be a while…” Isaac said, finding the young man who was wearing the same blue military uniform as him.

After researching at the library, Isaac took the train back to the East City, intending to take care of some things and say goodbye to a few colleagues.

"Oh, have a safe trip! By the way, I recently got married! It's to a super cute girl named Gracia~ Here's a picture of her, want to see it?"

Damn, you're mentally challenged.

Looking at the bespectacled man who greeted him with a smug look on his face, Isaac was now regretting saying goodbye to this jerk. Ever since he got a girlfriend, this guy had been showing off every day, from the military headquarters all the way to the street, even chatting on the office phone.

Isaac, not wanting to talk to that idiot, went to Roy Mustang. Since being transferred to the East Side, Mustang and Hughes had been his direct subordinates. Although both were capable, Isaac always felt that Roy Mustang was much more reliable than Hughes, who dared to show affection in front of him.

"Roy, headquarters has asked me to go on a business trip, and it might be for quite a while."

"Have a safe journey, Colonel. I will handle things in the East City," Roy Mustang said solemnly after giving a military salute.

See? I told you this person is more reliable.

"If anything happens to the colonel, I will take full responsibility for your work."

Gan

How could you say something so revealing of your ambition? If it weren't for our shared duty as comrades, I would have sent you flying long ago.

These two men had been his subordinates since Isaac was transferred to the Eastern Army. They had fought alongside him in the war and were considered close comrades-in-arms, or rather...

accomplice.

Dissatisfied with his two subordinates' situation, Isaac embarked on a journey to that continent.

Chapter Two: Alchemists Must Dare to Lie

The continent of Tersis is not at peace right now.

A global war erupted due to trade disputes between countries situated in the north and south of the continent. The southern countries possessed abundant resources, while the resource-poor northern countries launched a war against them.

Initially, only southern and northern countries participated, but later the southern countries allied with western countries, and the northern countries allied with eastern countries, turning the war into a battle between the Northeast Alliance and the Southwestern Alliance. The two sides fought fiercely to renegotiate the trade treaty.

The Kingdom of Leiden Sheftrich, which Isaac went to support, belongs to the Southwest Alliance and is in a dominant position in the continental war. However, due to a certain traitorous alchemist, the situation seems to be dire.

In addition to eliminating a traitor, the document given by the president also mentioned a family called Bugambiria requesting the dispatch of alchemists. This family was an old noble family in that kingdom, with members serving in the army every year and making great contributions to the kingdom.

“Support the war and ensure the safety of the Bugambiria family’s offspring? Tsk, isn’t it normal for a couple of people to die in a war? If you’re worried about your safety while joining the army, you might as well take off your uniform.” Isaac said disdainfully, looking at the document in his hand.

“You can’t say that, buddy.” The one who spoke was the bearded captain. Isaac had finally arrived at the ship bound for the kingdom after a long train journey. Fortunately, the weather was clear and the ship could sail normally.

"After all, no parent wants their child to have an accident on the battlefield."

"Then why not just quit the army and go home to farm?"

"The family you're talking about is the heroic family of Leiden-Sheftrich, where members of the family are required to serve in the military for generations."

After a pause, the captain continued.

"The young man who went to protect that family's offspring must be someone of considerable status, so he must be quite an extraordinary figure, therefore..."

"So what?"

"So could you please put down the gun that's pointing at my head?" the captain said cautiously to Isaac.

“No way. When I first boarded the ship and said we were going to Bugambilia’s home, you kept shaking your head, saying it was too dangerous and you didn’t want to go. Do you think you can sail a ship without some special methods?” Isaac put down the documents in his hand and continued to point the gun at the captain’s head.

"Brother, it's really dangerous! The sea area on the way there is a war zone, and our little boat won't stand a chance against their cannon fire!" The captain said with a mournful face, hoping that Isaac would turn back.

“No way! I’ve been on a train for 10 days, and you’re just going to let me go back like this?” Isaac glared at him with his eyes that weren’t hidden by his bangs.

"And what if I get demoted by the boss when I go back? How am I supposed to show off in front of that bastard who's always showing off his love and setting fires all the time?"

Hearing that makes me think you're the jerk.

However, the captain only dared to think about it in his heart.

"But... the next line leads to a war zone, I'm afraid..."

"Don't be afraid, I will protect you."

I feel very unsafe when you're next to me.

As the ship sailed further and further away, the faint sounds of gunfire could be heard, and the air was filled with the smell of gunpowder.

The bearded captain's forehead was covered in sweat.

"Young man, take my advice and go back..."
