Professor Albert Wilmas's expression changed drastically. He immediately ran to the rocks at the summit of Mount Mads, got down on all fours, and pressed himself against the rocks, searching for anything that could hold him in place.
I watched his actions with a blank expression, then turned my head and saw that the three fungal monsters had fallen close to the Black Tide Cloud Wall. The cloud-shaped claws mercilessly snatched one of them and swallowed it into the rolling thunderclouds.
The other two, controlling themselves, almost suicidally lunged at the tentacles approaching the giant cube machine, preferring death to letting it touch the massive machine.
The irregularly shaped convex windows on the machine, made of a glass-like material, emitted an extremely unsettling red light, and the machine's outer casing vibrated incessantly, as if some internal switch had been flipped and was running wildly.
Protected by the three-headed Migo, the enormous machine finally plunged straight into the Black Tide Cloud Wall, extinguishing the last glimmer of red light in our sight.
However, the next moment, the cloud wall into which the giant machine fell was as if it had been struck by an invisible giant hand, and without warning, a large chunk bulged out and then began to cave in!
The endless wall of thunderclouds seemed to be controlled by some invisible force, and a wound was torn open. After losing the protection of the thunderclouds, the dark green mist was finally exposed to the sunlight, visibly rolling, flowing, and swirling.
"This is Migo's special machinery. When the device is activated, it can be adjusted to pull deep underground strata through the rock layers above them. This machine can reach depths of four to five miles and affect an area of up to one cubic mile."
Mr. Rod explained to me, and then said, "The machine has just captured that area, and the special gravity will continue to affect it, creating a gap that can be breached."
I stared intently at the swirling, dark green fog, and through the chaotic surface, I seemed to see a vast abyss, beneath which an unimaginable behemoth writhed, emanating a terrifying malice. Its enormous body staggered, trying to squeeze out of the dark opening and into view, like a mountain range straddling the heavens and earth.
"Then why is he lying on the ground?" I asked.
Mr. Rod said seriously, "Because this machine has a side effect when used—it can trigger earthquakes."
The words had barely left his lips when a deafening roar, accompanied by a tremor that shook the earth, reached the location of Mount Maders. The propeller plane parked atop the mountain swayed uncontrollably, sliding forward before crashing off the cliff and shattering into pieces against the rock face. Meanwhile, tumbling rocks, broken trees, and cascading mudslides continued to fall along the mountainside, as if a single blow would destroy this majestic mountain range!
"Are they here to help or to cause trouble?! This mountain is already about to collapse without 'Deepsea Explosion' even lifting a finger!"
Chapter 414 The War of the World (Part 3)
After the near-catastrophic collapse, Albert Wilmas got up from the ground, ignoring the rubble covering him. He pulled a long, strange machine from his trench coat; it had angular edges and a whip-like antenna on top. The machine's nameplate read its true identity: "BC-611D Handheld Amplitude Modulation (AM) Radio Walkie-Talkie".
After he adjusted the two transceiver modules on the machine, a hissing electromagnetic noise quickly rang out in the earpiece. Although there was a receiver, the sound output was more like an external speaker.
"...Burst...Urgent report...A 7.8 magnitude earthquake has occurred in the sea south of the Southern Islands...Burst...Focus depth 1 kilometer...A large-scale tsunami warning has been issued...Burst...Professor William Dale predicts...Continuous tsunami waves will occur in coastal areas...Burst...Damage situation..."
Then came a chaotic, weak static that drowned out the increasingly faint mechanical announcement. Albert Wilmas strained to get closer to the receiver before managing to show a look of realization.
"Albert Wilmas, how's the earthquake? What's the extent of the damage?" Mr. Rhodes' tone was unexpectedly serious.
Professor Albert Wilmas said expressionlessly, "Fifteen islands were shattered by the earthquake, four of which are inhabited. The impact of the tsunami is expected to extend to a wider area, and the death toll may exceed five figures."
Mr. Rhodes exclaimed, "Stop those Migos! They'll destroy this continental shelf just like they collapsed the Arctic and turned it into the Arctic Ocean!"
“It’s too late,” Albert Wilmas said in a flat tone. “Migo came here on his own initiative to stop the Great Old Ones from breaking out of their cages. They don’t care about the casualties of ants on Earth.”
Mr. Rhodes gritted his teeth and said, "Are you just going to stand by and watch? You bear some responsibility for all this destruction!"
Albert Wilmas looked at him suspiciously and said, "Rhodes, I never knew you were this kind of person... The Academy has already evacuated people over there through the investigation team's organization. The epicenter here is too shallow, so the destructive power will naturally exceed expectations."
"Too many people have died... The price is too high... Why let these monsters get involved?!" Mr. Rhodes practically roared as he said this.
Albert Wilmas sneered: "This world has never been something we can decide, has it? Between the fingers of these Outer Gods and Ancient Gods, the Great Mystery has gathered humanity's insignificant wisdom to maintain a superficial order, but is it really useful? Do we have the right to bargain with these beings? Can our deaths really attract their attention?"
A strange look appeared in his eyes. He glanced at me before saying, "Or perhaps the reason this world has survived to this day is simply because these beings are completely indifferent to us..."
Mr. Rhodes gritted his teeth and said, "That's only because it wasn't you who died! You have no right to make others sacrifice themselves!"
Albert Wilmas's deeply lined face took on a cold expression: "I have personally witnessed these monsters, which are cone-shaped tumors formed from thick, sticky substances, covered with numerous tentacles, and secreting a viscous green liquid. Every minute, more of these things descend upon the earth."
"My brain was ripped out and placed in a cold, round vat, in the darkness of despair, suffering torture but remaining motionless."
"I even fell into the abyss of madness, unable to breathe in the whispers of darkness and the deadly fear, until reason led me out of the valley."
"I've already died once for this world, do you still think I'm not qualified to talk about sacrifice?!"
Mr. Rhodes's voice was utterly blunt in response: "I believe that even so, you still do not have that right!"
As the two confronted each other, the thick green fog exposed to their view began to churn and boil, as if a witch were boiling a stinking cauldron of bats, worms, swamp sludge, and human fingers, revealing fragments of nightmares that could only be glimpsed in the wildest human imagination.
The indistinct, mountain-like figure floated and began to writhe beneath the massive thunderclouds. Enveloped in dark green poisonous clouds, it stretched out an indescribable, bizarre limb towards the sky, breaking through the clouds and soaring straight to the heavens!
A powerful sonic wave of torque vibrated into everyone's mental world and then exploded, like a grenade detonated in a pot. The purest vibration was extracted from it and injected into the brain, guiding every brain cell into the weightlessness of a roller coaster.
Uncontrollable ripples appeared on the crystal in front of Mr. Rod and me. The crystal walls were squeezed and deformed, overlapping and colliding. Strange crystal clusters were formed in some areas, while other parts were as thin as the surface of a soap bubble.
Even worse off than us was Professor Albert Wilmas. Blood streamed from his eyes, and bright red fluid oozed from his ears. Without warning, the middle-aged man collapsed to the ground, his body convulsing violently. Countless dark red veins bloomed on his exposed skin, like a sea of flowers bursting into bloom…
"Shadows of madness and sounds of blasphemy!"
These indescribable things instantly flashed through my mind, seemingly able to spread to the minds of all living beings without any medium. And the destructive power displayed by "Deepsea Explosion" was beyond everyone's imagination, so powerful as to be irresistible!
A single tentacle is terrifying... Just imagining such a creature completely freed from its cage, walking on land and sea with its mountain-like body, is enough to plunge the fragile human mind into an abyss of madness...
Unlike Mr. Rhodes and me, who were protected by phosphorescent star crystals, and unlike us, who were far from the distorted core, the Migos, who created dark green cavities and gathered in the air, suffered even greater casualties.
Many of them were immediately confronted by the twisted entity appearing in the dark green cloud, instantly exploding into a green blood mist, dying completely. The others were covered by a layer of strange biological tissue, but this was completely unable to stop the twisted invasion, and they fell into the thundercloud like dumplings being dropped into a pot, utterly powerless to resist.
Many more Migo, caught in the terrifying impact, couldn't even react before their bacteria rapidly withered and died, all their organs dissolving into a pool of translucent, sticky ash that drifted into the air—this ash quickly dried in the air, eventually leaving only a greasy stain.
The surviving Migo used its externally flailing tentacles to pull out their weapon and begin its counterattack. This weapon, about the size of a doorknob, was a dark, lumpy mass of metal covered in tiny wires. Migo used it by gripping it tightly and altering its resistance, firing indigo-blue spherical sparks of electricity. Then, like a moth drawn to a flame, it clung to the electric ball and lunged at the "Deepsea Cataclysm's" tentacles, transforming into a dirty firework…
Chapter 415 The War of the Worlds (Part 4)
So far, Migo's seismograph has not only failed to kill the enemy, but has even acted as an accomplice in breaking the cage of "Deepsea Cataclysm," seriously shaking the sealing effect of the Mads Mountains and releasing some indescribable limbs...
Amidst the chaotic fall of the Migo population, a small portion of them remained intact, forming an aerial square formation that never disintegrated.
Those strange creatures intertwined their mycelial limbs to form a creepy, disordered barrier. Even if a companion died, the remaining members would quickly fill the gap, maintaining the precarious defense line, seemingly protecting the core from being exposed to the toxic air.
These bizarre and twisted interstellar creatures communicate with buzzing sounds emanating from their unique organs, but countless of their kind disappear every moment. This passive defense cannot change their overall backwardness.
That's what's disheartening.
The Migo, an interstellar race seemingly incomprehensibly powerful in the eyes of humans, were utterly powerless against truly formidable beings, unable to withstand their attacks even for a second. And this is merely the tip of the iceberg of the "Deepsea Cataclysm"!
My mind had already subconsciously compared "Deepsea Cataclysm" with "The Final Catastrophe." Both are inexplicable, both are world-destroying, both are ruthless. How could humanity, such a tiny and insignificant being, possess the ignorant courage to dare stand in the face of such a being…
"Mr. Rhodes, what are they doing?"
I couldn't help but ask the people around me.
Mr. Rhodes' voice came somewhat muffled: "These fungal creatures flew from Pluto to collect rare minerals. They are highly intelligent and neither friend nor foe to humans. The entity they believe in probably wouldn't be happy to see the 'Deep Sea Cataclysm' escape, which is why they sent them to stop it..."
"And what is that thick green fog?"
"It's a medium from another world, another dimension, another level. We're like tiny people in a balloon, and 'Deepwater Horizon' is the giant playing with that balloon. If it forces its way in, it will burst the balloon, so it shakes and squeezes us with all sorts of external forces, displaying its power before us... If those green sludge from the illusions aren't stopped, they will flow into this world faster and faster, eventually completely taking over and destroying all life, leaving only a swampy ocean churning with crazy waves..."
The sphere that Migo condensed grew smaller and smaller until it could no longer maintain its intact appearance, revealing the substance encased within.
One of them was a strange machine with a clearly visible cannon barrel and support structure, firmly locked onto the five Migos, fixing them in mid-air with their bodies. Their mycelia were also growing wildly, connecting the scattered mechanical parts, acting as the machine's linking parts, and constructing a bizarre weapon out of thin air.
Albert Wilmas somehow managed to stand up from his mental shock, leaning weakly against an old tree. He pulled out his old-fashioned walkie-talkie once more, but this time, a strange buzzing sound came from it.
The man with deep nasolabial folds listened thoughtfully to the strange noises coming from the walkie-talkie, frowned, strained to open his eyes and look into the distance, clenched his teeth and waited intently for something.
"You did indeed reach a deal with Migo..."
Mr. Rhodes' expression was extremely complicated, and his voice was full of disbelief.
But Albert Wilmas, without looking away, said, “We have no choice… This crisis is one that even I, a literature professor, cannot escape… If we had a choice, we would send Migo as far away as possible; if not, then my disgust is insignificant… What a damn brain trap…”
He took off his hat, and where the skull should have been was now just a huge hole, exposing the brain cavity to the air. Only a red, tumor-like biological structure was embedded inside the brain cavity, emitting a faint blue light.
Suddenly, he uttered a short syllable, like a fruit falling from a tree after ripening, or like an archer releasing the taut string.
At the target location of the walkie-talkie, the machines in the Migo group started operating instantly!
The three enormous charging devices on the machine's base emitted a bright red light, which gradually rose along the base and converged towards the gun barrel.
"Let's hold the last line of defense for humanity..."
Albert Wilmas's voice rose and fell with the sound of him collapsing to the ground, but the strange weapon in our eyes had already begun its irreversible action.
Under the intense heat, the Migo gradually entered a state of suspended animation, their limbs retracting into their exoskeletons, their bodies turning grayish-white. However, the hard shell failed to withstand the power of the heat source; the Migo were heated and softened, ultimately unable to survive.
But the time gained has been enough.
Looking at the enormous machine, Mr. Rhodes exclaimed in shock, "This madman! He actually did it... These conceptual weapons are impractical for us, but they pose no challenge to Migo's technological level..."
"What weapon?" I asked quickly.
Mr. Rhodes said, “Those are some weapon manuscripts of unknown origin… supposedly written on the title page of an encyclopedia by a tall, thin, cheerful, dark-skinned man… later treasured deep within the Miskatonic University library, where the librarian has always forbade any research. Because these weapons are not only inconceivable, but could even… destroy the world!”
No smoke or flashes of fire emanated from the weapon's barrel; instead, it emitted a blinding white light, like a train pulling into a station late at night.
A massive beam of particles shot out from the weapon's barrel, reacting violently with the air upon firing, leaving a clear trail of light at my distance. This flowing energy appeared to consist of unstable particles that, upon leaving the barrel, began to annihilate violently with the air, triggering explosions and tremors throughout the area.
The immense energy traveled along the trajectory, instantly piercing through the fog cloud wall and dark green fog on the sea surface, violently striking the twisting and dancing towering tentacles, causing a catastrophic explosion!
"The essence of matter is atoms, therefore this weapon system uses the annihilation of positrons and negatively charged electrons to convert them into light, energy, and gamma rays, thereby destroying the target by breaking down the atomic structure..."
Although Mr. Rhodes and I were protected by the crystal wall, which could almost shield and filter out all external damage and block interference except for visual observation, we were still stunned by the dazzling light and could only look down at the explosion in the distance. He said to me.
"Such annihilation power is too uncontrollable, and the obstruction of the atmosphere on Earth would cause interference, so it has never been successfully created..."
"Mr. Rhodes, could this weapon be some kind of forbidden technique secretly developed by your school's second-generation leader? Or is it the Amaterasu, a Mangekyou Sharingan eye technique that no one can hit?!"
"No, it takes its own name and is called the Positron Cannon..."
Chapter 416 The War of the Worlds (Part 5)
The explosions triggered by the wild lightning rang out continuously within the cloud wall, like a barrage of machine gun fire. Even the most terrifying thunderclouds could not withstand such terrifying energy, instead triggering a collision of charges within them.
A thousand thunderclaps erupted simultaneously, illuminating the entire scene. The strange light that preceded the thunder cast a black-and-white filter over the world, stealing its color, as if a god from the High Heaven had violently descended upon this land.
The massive shockwave from the explosion not only demonstrated destructive power over a wide area, but also highlighted its unparalleled penetrating effect. The dark clouds that shrouded the entire ocean were thrown into chaos; any smoke that came into contact with them evaporated instantly, water clouds rapidly dispersed, and darkness was illuminated. The dark forces that had been blocking the way seemed to have foreseen their nemesis, tearing open a huge wound and revealing the tragic world beneath the thunderclouds, where torrential rains had poured down countless times.
Fortunately, the crystal wall surrounding me seemed to filter out the glaring light, or perhaps my current ghostly state made me immune to physical damage, allowing me to see clearly amidst the blinding colors.
Beneath the crack in the clouds, the long-suffering town finally saw the first rays of dawn. Familiar buildings, submerged in water and buried in mud, seemed to wave joyfully at us. Also clearly visible were the town's strange, twisted creatures, stunned by the anomaly overhead, exposed to the sunlight without any reaction.
This should be the first time in half a month that the air of reality has blown into this small town.
"Marcus, look over there. Has the target been hit?"
Mr. Rhodes drew my attention and made me immediately look toward the designated area where Migo was aiming for the launch.
“Mr. Rhodes, could this be Professor Albert Wilmas’s plan?” I asked.
Mr. Rhodes nodded: "This explanation should be the truth. Migo has always had the habit of collecting human intelligence brains. Albert Wilmas must have voluntarily put them into their brain collection jars, and used this opportunity to pass on the plan to these alien monsters."
"But is it all worth it?"
