"If it were Kashima-senpai, she would only ask where the candy is."

Maya Uesugi took the milk jug and candy jug from the table in her other hand and placed them on the table between the two of them, reminding them, "You haven't given her any assurance yet. The longer Kashima-senpai waits, the less credible your words will be."

"Your social skills rely on observation to infer other people's personalities?" Makoto Takahashi opened the milk can and poured it into the coffee.

Black coffee blends into white milk, gradually lightening in color, eventually losing its bitterness and transforming into a silky, mellow flavor.

"Isn't this a social skill?"

Maya Uesugi's words were irrefutable; knowing what the other person cares about can indeed significantly improve communication efficiency.

Makoto Takahashi swallowed another sip of coffee, now half full of milk, savoring its smooth texture and the aroma of roasted nuts, while pondering how to gain Reiko Kashima's trust.

Snapped--

Then, the first firework soared into the sky, its colorful flashes adorning the heavens.

As he looked up at the fireworks, Makoto Takahashi suddenly realized that although Maya Uesugi's analysis was rational and objective, she truly understood him.

"Is there something wrong with my personality? Am I too fixated on my own feelings?"

He realized that Uesugi Maya and Kashima Reiko were both the kind of people who would do anything to get things done, while he was the type who only needed to be in a good mood—he was too leisurely.

Even now, compared to inviting Reiko Kashima to join the band, Makoto Takahashi is more concerned about his own feelings.

"Floating on the water," Kashima Reiko suddenly said.

She has a down-to-earth and diligent work ethic.

"I guess so. Sticking to your own heart isn't a bad thing."

Maya Uesugi leaned back in her camping chair, lifting her delicate face to gaze at the night sky, the flickering sparks reflected in her eyes:

"This world is complex. Some people value emotions and care about personal value and meaning; others value logic and pursue stability and results."

"But there are over 70 billion people in this world, so there will always be someone who understands you, and there is no need to change yourself."

With this awareness, she embarked on a solitary path. Makoto Takahashi deeply realized this and began to understand Maya Uesugi's world.

"I don't hate you."

Amidst the crackling sounds all around, fireworks soared into the sky one after another, illuminating the night. The banks of the Meguro River were packed with people, and cheers erupted everywhere.

After listening to Maya Uesugi's speech, Makoto Takahashi's emotions stopped churning within him.

"Senior Kashima, I really am an overly leisurely person."

He picked up his coffee, paused briefly, then met Kashima Reiko's blue eyes and said slowly:

"So I can't give you any guarantees. Maybe Uesugi is right, and I will still do some things to help you in the future, but I won't make any promises to you."

"That sounds like a jerk," Makoto Takahashi thought to himself.

"But none of us can leave this world alive, so why not be bolder and do what you love?"

As Makoto Takahashi spoke, he began to laugh. Looking at his profile and sincere eyes, Reiko Kashima felt a strange sensation well up in her heart, and a sense of ease settled in her chest.

She felt a pure sense of power that easily dispelled the unease she had felt recently due to being doubted by Tachimi Yuki.

She is not a machine; her inner thoughts are actually quite complex.

How can an NPC quickly adjust its behavior to create a persona that meets social needs?

However, Kashima Reiko always chooses to return to the ordinary when faced with all the options.

“That’s true.” She couldn’t deny what Makoto Takahashi said.

"Would you like to join us, Kashima-senpai? I'll be in charge of communicating with Tachimi-senpai."

Makoto Takahashi saw her beautiful eyes, which shone like fireworks, and then faded like sparks, as they met his gaze.

"Let me make a plan first."

After saying that, Kashima Reiko, as if to bury the impulse rising in her heart, opened the box of fried noodles that was placed to the side and started eating.

"plan?"

Makoto Takahashi tilted his head in confusion and asked Maya Uesugi, as he was starting to misunderstand Reiko Kashima's words again.

It's just a decision to join a band, is there any need for a plan? We can deal with problems as they arise.

"The best way to disrupt someone's routine is to create an accident." Uesugi Maya gave him a [Let me see if you're stupid] look.

"what do you mean--"

"Yes."

Just as Kashima Reiko was inserting disposable bamboo chopsticks into the fried noodles, she suddenly had a bad feeling. She looked up at the two people exchanging glances and suddenly felt like running away.

"Kashima-senpai, you must join our band now."

Makoto Takahashi suddenly stood up from the camping chair, sat down next to Reiko Kashima, took out his phone, and said with a determined expression, "I'm going to call Tachimi-senpai now."

Upon hearing this, Kashima Reiko's body visibly stiffened.

Seeing that her pink lips moved slightly but she didn't say anything to stop him, Makoto Takahashi thought of what to say and immediately dialed Yuki Tachimi's number.

"Tachimi-senpai, I want to play in a band with Kashima-senpai. Uesugi-kun said you'd definitely make things difficult for me, but I don't believe it."

He originally thought that Tachimi Yuki would definitely oppose Uesugi Maya, and that if he said that, Tachimi Yuki might agree directly.

"She's right."

Tachibana Yuki's sweet voice revealed obvious pleasure as she laughed and said, "Takahashi-senpai, Reiko is my favorite servant, how can you steal someone else's love?"

"Stealing someone else's love? We're just playing in a band together."

"But I'll be really distressed without Lengzi by my side."

Makoto Takahashi's phone was on speakerphone, so Reiko Kashima and Maya Uesugi could hear Yuki Tachimi's words.

He cast a pleading look at Maya Uesugi, but before she could speak, Reiko Kashima, standing beside him, shook her head and said to Makoto Takahashi:

"Thank you, I'm fine."

The two sat very close, and her voice reached Tachimi Yuki's ears more clearly than the sound of fireworks exploding in the night sky.

Kashima Reiko's statement shows that Takahashi Makoto was helping others out of a sense of camaraderie, rather than being instructed by Uesugi Maya to forcibly recruit Kashima Reiko into the band.

After a moment of unspoken silence, Tachibana Yuki said in a more serious tone:

"It's rare to have tea with my mother. I don't have time today, can we talk again next week?"

"Sorry to bother you."

"As for you, junior, there's absolutely no need to worry about bothering me. If it's just casual chatting, I'm always happy to keep you company."

It sounded like she just didn't want to talk about serious matters, but Makoto Takahashi couldn't think of anything inappropriate to talk about with Yuki Tachimi. After a few polite words, he hung up the phone.

Kashima Reiko, standing beside him, was eating large mouthfuls of fried noodles as if trying to avoid the conversation, with sauce sticking to the corners of her mouth, which was actually kind of cute.

Makoto Takahashi sat back in his camping chair, enjoying his grilled squid while watching the fireworks. Being able to help Reiko Kashima made him feel great.

"Kashima-senpai, if you really join the band, I hope you won't treat us with the same hypocrisy you show outside," Uesugi Maya said coldly.

"Okay," Kashima Reiko replied vaguely.

"Do you really like the drums?"

"Yes."

"Let's call the band NiceFold."

Uesugi Maya suddenly made a decision on her own, and Takahashi Makoto, as an initial member, felt that she didn't respect him and asked unhappily:

"What does it mean? It sounds less like a migraine."

"In poker terminology, 'Fold' means to give up your current hand and leave the game, while 'Nice' describes an elegant attitude of not lingering or getting bogged down in a fight."

Maya Uesugi relaxed completely in her camping chair. Perhaps because she had been watching the fireworks for so long, she rubbed her sore eyes wearily.

"Kashima-senpai clearly loves the drums, but she gave up the band when Tachimi asked her if she wanted to continue. I also gave up some of my obsessive ideas. Maybe one day you'll just date anyone."

“It’s also possible that he won’t settle, just like you,” Makoto Takahashi said confidently.

"NiceFold has many interpretations now, but I prefer a rational, albeit regretful, letting go."

"I hate rationality."

"Ha, what a childish man."

With a cold laugh from Uesugi Maya, fireworks shot into the sky with a "whoosh," and then suddenly exploded after a long time.

Sparks trailed as they fell, followed by countless fireworks bursting in the sky, overlapping and illuminating the entire night, making it feel like a dream.

Author's Note + Bonus Items

Note (with added armor): All characters in this book are adults. All instances of "[Tsurumizawa]" in the book refer to Tsurumizawa University and have no negative connotations.

It will be available for purchase tomorrow morning, with 10,000 words on the first day. It should consist of three chapters: 4, 4, and 2.

Once published, I guarantee at least 6 words of updates per day.

The decision to publish this was made at the last minute and was somewhat rushed. I originally planned to publish 2 words, but considering that the pressure might be too great after I ran out of drafts, I'll just publish 1 words for now.

Although the new book only has 40 chapters, most of them are 4 words long. This is for the sake of reading experience. I personally think that forcibly dividing the chapters into 2-word sections is meaningless.

It will probably be the same after it's released, so don't worry too much about the number of chapters.

The theme of this book, as the synopsis states, is the story of an ordinary boy falling in love on his journey to becoming a well-rounded individual.

Overall, this book is about daily life in a school, youthful romance, a love triangle, a little bit of twisted romance, and sweet love.

Aside from the artist route, the story will basically revolve around the four major anxieties of this age: love, clubs, interpersonal relationships, and schoolwork.

大纲目前只做了两卷,第一卷18-20万字,第二卷35-38万字,初步估算总共5卷,3、4、5卷加起来大概有一百万字吧。

After it's published, I plan to maintain a monthly update speed of 20 words, with 6 words a day as the base, and keep 1 words in reserve. If the surplus exceeds 1 words, I will update it in bulk.

After addressing the updated issues, the next step is the sacrifice.
