At that moment, a tense voice came through the earpiece.

"Report! D-2 has detected enemy support! They are rapidly approaching!"

Then came a gunshot and D-2's anxious shout: "Hey! D-4, are you alright!"

"D-4 has been hit, requesting backup!"

Ghost's voice came through the earpiece: "Anyone approaching Group D's area? Go provide support!"

You looked around and found that the ghost and D-2 were located at opposite ends of the road, and because you were behind, you seemed to be the person closest to D-2.

You take a deep breath and turn around.

"Report, I'm going to support D-2."

After saying that, you sprinted up the hill and headed towards D-2.

Upon arriving at the scene, you immediately checked the wounded soldier's condition.

Fortunately, it was just a scrape on his arm, not fatal.

You told him to find cover and then joined the fight.

It was only then that you realized that D-2 was actually Joseph.

ch.45: Sorry, stranger

Joseph was not surprised to see that it was you.

That's right, you and Vita are the only two women on this mission.

He can easily tell it's you just by hearing your reply through the earpiece.

"Joseph, I'm about to throw a bomb, you keep watch and finish it off!"

You lie down beside him and watch him give his instructions.

He looked back at you and nodded.

You cautiously peek out and observe the enemy's position. You then take an M68 grenade from your waist pack, bite open the pin with your teeth, and throw it in the direction of the enemy!

"quick!"

You shouted anxiously, then bent down, picked up your rifle, and fired a burst of blind shots at Joseph.

After a battle, perhaps because your firepower suppressed them, the remaining men began to retreat.

You and Joseph both breathed a sigh of relief.

Thankfully, we retreated; otherwise, sending them over to provide support would have only added to the Ghosts' troubles.

You extend your palm and look at Joseph with a smile.

"High five to celebrate our success."

This is a signal of reconciliation that you initiated.

Your thinking is: after all, they are teammates, and you'll see each other all the time, so there's no need to ruin the relationship.

Joseph exhaled and smiled, extending his hand to give you a high five, but your expression changed!

Then, you quickly pulled out your pistol and pointed it at him!

As he stared in shock, you fired without hesitation!

The bullet flew toward him, then grazed past him and struck an enemy who had just peeked out from behind.

You put away your gun and said to him apologetically, "Did I scare you?"

"I'm sorry, the situation was a bit urgent. That enemy tried to launch a sneak attack, and I didn't have time to explain to you."

Joseph's expression relaxed, and he broke into a smile:

"It's alright, I should thank you for saving me."

You laughed and said, "It's not really saving you; what if he chooses to shoot me first?"

Even so, you both know that if you hadn't fired that shot, you might both be dead here.

Don't be fooled by your relaxed smile; you're actually feeling a chill down your spine. You can't imagine what would have happened if you hadn't reacted in time.

Joseph was about to say something when an anxious voice came from behind him.

Joseph! Are you alright?

You and Joseph turn around at the same time and see Lake running towards you.

Joseph exclaimed in surprise, "Lake, what brings you here?"

Lake: "Of course I'm here to support you."

Then he looked at you and gave a soft, ambiguous hum:

"I was worried when I heard she was coming to help."

You're making it sound like you're incompetent, or... that you'd murder Joseph.

You were annoyed, but thinking about the hostage rescue training, you suppressed your anger.

But you two really don't like each other, so you simply turn your head away and don't look at him, out of sight, out of mind.

Joseph quickly intervened, saying, "Lake, YN is very kind; she helped me."

Then he reassured you, "YN, don't take it to heart with Lake, he just has a bad temper."

You turned around and politely nodded to indicate that you understood.

You stand up: "The lieutenant and the others should be almost done by now. Should we go back and help them?"

After Joseph turned on his headset and asked, he received a response that he could go and provide support.

Lyca lifted Joseph up and made him go ahead.

Then you were instructed to go outside the hills to check the situation.

You have regulations that require counting the number of people in small battles and checking enemy armbands to determine their affiliation, which will make it easier to prepare post-battle reports later.

Although this is necessary work, you are on the same level, and his bossy attitude makes you very uncomfortable.

So you retorted in a harsh tone, "Why aren't you going?"

Unexpectedly, Lake responded directly: "Then let's go together!"

Since he's already said that, you can't say anything more, so you just turn around and walk down the hill.

He was right behind you, and you pointed to the body on the other side.

"You look over there, I'll look over here."

Lake didn't say much, and started walking in the direction you pointed.

Looking at the corpses lying haphazardly on the ground, you feel a sense of revulsion.

Especially when you see the wounds on their faces and meet their lifeless eyes, you feel a chill run down your spine.

It felt as if countless caterpillars were falling on you, wriggling and crawling, stinging and burning, making you tremble uncontrollably.

You crouch down, extend your slightly trembling hand, and touch one of the cold faces, gently wiping it to close his eyes.

You silently say to yourself: I'm sorry... stranger.

Then you flatten his body, revealing his lower arms, and find his representative badge.

Many military units, organizations, and even mercenaries carry the insignia of their respective factions.

They might stick them on their clothes or get them tattooed on their bodies; in any case, they would have them to help confirm their identity later.

Some people with particular interests collect these badges as trophies.

However, since you're not interested, just tear off this piece to keep for your report.

After tearing off the badge, you stuff it into your pocket and move on to the next corpse.

Just as you were carefully examining yourself, you suddenly felt a sharp pain in your neck!

Then, you lose consciousness.

Seeing your limp figure collapsing to the ground, Lake snorted coldly and turned to leave.

Lake, having just crossed the hill, ran into Joseph, who was returning.

Joseph glanced behind Lake twice, then asked him:

"Where is yn?"

Lake replied nonchalantly, "Knocked out."

Joseph snapped, "Why did you knock her out!"

Lake frowned: "Teach her a lesson."

Joseph sighed and rubbed his forehead: "Lake, it's all over now, she's our teammate! Come on, let's go carry her back."

Lake retorted, "Bro, you're not feeling sorry for her, are you? Have you forgotten how arrogant she was when she hit you?"

Joseph sighed: "If the lieutenant finds out, you're finished!"

Lake shrugged: "If you don't tell, no one will know."

Joseph: "No, you must take her back to the assembly point. It's too dangerous here!"

Although the enemy's reinforcements have been driven away, they could return at any time.

As if their wishes had come true, Joseph and Lake heard the sound of car brakes.

Joseph immediately lay down to examine him.

"What do we do? The enemy is coming!"

Lekker grabbed his arm: "Hurry up, there aren't many of them, they won't dare to go any further."

Joseph: "But yn is still down there!"

Lake pulled him forcefully: "They have rocket launchers, the two of us can't beat them, we'd better go back and ask for backup, let's go!"

What he said made sense; the two of them simply couldn't compete with each other.
