Genkawa Yu took the large bag off his back and placed it on the grass.

"A quilt, some food and drink, that should be enough for us to get through tomorrow."

Nobody knows when the rescue will arrive; it might be tomorrow, or it might be the day after. It's always good to grab some supplies first.

He crouched down, opened the shopping bag, and took the items out one by one.

Five bottles of mineral water, three bags of bread, two packs of biscuits and canned food, a pack of tissues, and the rolled-up quilt.

"The quilt... should be enough."

Higuchi Enka unfolded the quilt, a relieved smile appearing on her face. The quilt was quite large, the kind of winter quilt for two people. Although it was early summer and a bit thick, it was actually a good thing to be thick when spending the night outdoors without heating.

The quilt cover is a simple light blue plaid pattern, and it feels soft and warm to the touch.

"There's only one, so we'll just cover half and use the other half. None of the three of us are fat, so it'll be enough for us."

Higuchi Enka nodded and began to spread the blankets on the grass.

She found a relatively flat spot, folded the blanket in half, using the bottom half as a mattress and the top half as a blanket. After laying it out, she patted it to make sure there were no stones or branches that would hurt her.

"All right."

Kasumigaoka Utaha sat down next to the blanket, picked up a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed it, and took a small sip. Her lips were already a little chapped, and she hadn't had a drop of water since the afternoon.

"Yuanchuan-kun, have some too." She handed him the water.

Genkawa Yu took the water and drank several large mouthfuls. The cool water flowed down his throat, relieving the burning thirst.

He picked up a bag of bread, tore open the packaging, broke off one half and handed it to Higuchi Enka, and the other half to Kasumigaoka Utaha.

"Let's eat something first. We might not sleep well tonight, but at least we need to fill our stomachs."

"Ah."

The three of them sat on the quilt, silently eating bread and biscuits.

In the face of natural disasters, whether you are a big star, an idol, or a writer, you can only try your best to get through this period.

After finishing his meal, Genkawa Yu checked his surroundings. It was completely dark, and the woods were pitch black.

Occasionally, the sounds of collapse and shouts could be heard in the distance, but they were all very far away.

The wind blew in from the sea, carrying a cool breeze, but was mostly blocked by the trees.

"There shouldn't be any more strong earthquakes tonight," he said. "The energy from the main shock has been mostly released. There will be aftershocks, but they shouldn't be very strong."

"How did you know?" Kasumigaoka Utaha asked.

I saw it in a book.

Genkawa Yu smiled, trying to reassure the two girls.

"Aftershocks typically decrease over time after an earthquake. Tonight's aftershocks will at most cause a slight tremor and will not cause any new collapses."

He spoke with great confidence, but in reality, he wasn't 100% certain.

Seismology is a probabilistic science; no one can accurately predict the intensity and timing of the next earthquake.

But he knew that what the two girls needed at this time was reassurance, not more fear.

Sure enough, Kasumigaoka Utaha's expression visibly relaxed.

Genkawa Yu checked the time; his phone showed 7:40 PM. Although there was no signal, the clock was still ticking normally.

"Fix it as soon as possible, we can deal with tomorrow's problems tomorrow."

Higuchi Enka had already made the bed. She sat at one end of the bed, patted the spot next to her, and suddenly said.

"Genkawa-kun, you can sleep in the middle then."

Genkawa Yu was taken aback: "Why am I sleeping in the middle?"

"Because you are the hardest working person today."

Higuchi Madoka spoke earnestly, staring intently at Genkawa Yu in the darkness, "The middle spot is the flattest. If you get a good night's sleep, you'll be more energetic tomorrow."

The reason sounded a bit far-fetched, but Genkawa Yu did not refuse.

He was really tired... so tired that he could fall asleep almost as soon as he lay down.

Moreover, he vaguely sensed that there might be another reason why the two girls made him sleep in the middle.

They need a sense of security, and in the dark wilderness, leaning against a trustworthy person is the most direct way to obtain that security.

He took off his shoes and lay down in the middle of the blankets.

The blanket was soft, and although the grass was a bit hard, it wasn't too uncomfortable with the blankets on. He lay on his back, looking up at the tree canopy above.

In fact, you can't see anything in the dark, you can only hear the rustling of leaves in the wind and the deep echo of waves crashing on the shore in the distance.

Then he felt someone lie down on his left.

It’s Higuchi EN香.

The girl moved very gently. She lay on her side, facing the direction of Genkawa Yu, and then reached out and gently wrapped her arms around his left arm.

"Is this okay?" Higuchi Madoka asked softly. The sudden earthquake seemed to have changed both her actions and her mindset.

"Uh, I'm fine. If you're cold, you can hold me tighter."

"Thank you, Genkawa-kun."

Higuchi Madoka didn't stand on ceremony at all, directly putting her arm around Genkawa Yu's arm and then resting her head on his shoulder.

"That's good."

"Ah."

Although Higuchi Enka's voice wasn't loud, Kasumigaoka Utaha on the other side clearly heard it.

Then, she lay down directly.

Her movements were more restrained than Higuchi Enka's, but she also reached out and wrapped her arms around Genkawa Yu's right arm, only her head was further away from him, but her legs were pressed against Genkawa Yu's body.

"Mr. Genkawa, thank you so much for today."

"Honestly, now that we've come this far, you don't need to keep saying thank you."

“I used to think I was a very independent person.” Kasumigaoka Utaha’s voice was soft, with a hint of self-deprecation. “But now I realize that when I really encounter problems, I become a burden.”

"You don't have to say that. After all, nobody wants to experience an earthquake."

Genkawa Yuu smiled gently and patted her little hand.

"No matter what, you can all rely on me."

"Ah."

Kasumigaoka Utaha suddenly smiled and then slowly said.

"Let me rely on you for a bit tonight... Genkawa-kun."

"it is good."

After saying this, the girl leaned closer to Genkawa Yu, her soft body almost squeezing into his arms.

He sighed, then reached out and put his arms around the two girls' shoulders.

"Rest now, tomorrow will be better."

"Ah."

Volume 4 To the New World: Chapter 43 Earthquake News, The Collapsed Girls! (2-in-1 5k)

The morning light filtered through the gaps in the tree canopy, casting dappled patterns on the grass.

When Genkawa Yu opened his eyes, his first thought was... his arm was completely numb.

It wasn't the ordinary kind of numbness that comes from prolonged pressure, but the kind of numbness where the entire arm loses all feeling.

He tried to move his fingers, and a sharp, needle-like pain shot through him, making him gasp.

"..."

Last night, Yuu Genkawa spent the whole night making body pillows.

After falling asleep, whether intentionally or unintentionally, Higuchi Enka and Kasumigaoka Utaha kept leaning their soft bodies against him.

On the left, Higuchi Enka buried her face in his chest, her hands tightly wrapped around his left arm, like she was hugging a giant teddy bear.

Kasumigaoka Utaha, on his right, was pressed against his right side, her long hair cascading down his neck, her breathing warm and even.

The two men pressed down on him from various angles, preventing him from turning over all night.

In order not to wake them, he could only lie stiffly in the same position, letting the joints of his body protest silently.

When I woke up, every part of my body ached.

"Really."

After regaining consciousness, Genkawa Yu sat up and felt the cool breeze coming towards him.

Higuchi Enka was squatting on the grass not far away, neatly packing the leftover mineral water and biscuits from yesterday into a shopping bag.

Although there were still some signs of fatigue on her face, her expression had returned to its usual calm.

Kasumigaoka Utaha stood at the edge of the open space, facing east, gazing at the distant sea. Her long hair fluttered slightly in the sea breeze, and the cuffs of her black trousers were covered with mud and grass stains, but she seemed completely unconcerned.

Both of them were already awake, and they seemed to have woken up much earlier than him.

"Genkawa-kun, you're finally awake."

Higuchi Madoka noticed that he sat up, turned her head, and smiled.

"What time is it now?" Genkawa Yu rubbed his sore neck.

It's almost seven o'clock.

Why didn't you wake me up?

"That won't do, Genkawa-kun. You worked too hard yesterday, so we want you to rest a bit more."

"Really."

After Yu Minakawa got up, Madoka Higuchi told him some good news that cheered him up.
