America: A Prodigy of Stereotypes

“It’s Peter. I thought it was someone else,” Aunt May said.
"Aunt Mei, look at me."
"Little Tiger, are you going out on a date with a girl today?" Aunt Mei teased.
“Do I look like Uncle Ben when he was young?” Peter asked.
“You don’t have his long hair,” Aunt May replied.
"Uncle Ben, did you used to have long hair?" Peter looked at Uncle Ben in surprise.
"His long hair was up to this height!" Aunt Mei gestured, pointing out that Uncle Ben's hair in his youth reached his neck.
“And your Aunt May has short hair,” Uncle Ben said to Peter.
“He even has tattoos!” Aunt Mei said.
“It’s already washed off,” Uncle Ben said.
“Peter, you absolutely mustn’t get a tattoo. Tattoos look really ugly,” Aunt May said to Peter.
After a lively breakfast, Peter accompanied Aunt May out the door.
Sitting in Aunt May's car, Peter smelled a faint perfume scent, the kind that perfectly suited the temperament of a middle-aged woman.
“Shall I drive?” Peter asked.
"Peter, are you familiar with the road? Or should I drive?"
“Even though you’ve got your driver’s license, there’s still a lot you need to learn,” Aunt Mei said, starting the car.
Ben Parker leisurely tidied up the kitchen before heading off to work alone at the Daily Bugle.
Ben Parker's Oldsmobile drove onto the road, and Li Qun came out from behind the house.
Li Qun opened a portal to come and check the situation.
Li Qun was worried, and Peter's phone call last night amplified his concerns.
That thing is about to happen.
The fateful event that anchored the birth of Spider-Man.
Li Qun vaguely remembered someone saying that this event was a chapter in every Spider-Man's life story, something that had already happened, had to happen, or was about to happen in different Spider-Men.
Peter and Aunt May went to work together. Li Qun was originally worried that Uncle Ben would have an accident, but now Li Qun is worried that Aunt May would have an accident.
Chapter 150 The Daily Horn
Ben Parker walked into the Goodman Building, greeting his colleagues from The Daily Bugle along the way. He took out his key, opened the office door, left it slightly ajar, and sat down at his desk to begin his day's work.
"Ben, if you need to talk to me, come to my office."
John Jonah Jameson stood in the doorway, and after speaking, he looked back.
"What is it? Now?"
"Right now."
Ben Parker nodded, picked up his things, and went to Jameson's editor-in-chief's office.
“Speak,” Ben Parker said, sitting down and organizing his manuscript.
“Our boss, Mr. Goodman, is preparing to retire, and before he does, he wants someone to take over his position as editor-in-chief,” Jameson said.
"understood."
The founder of the Daily Bugle was William Walter Goodman, a man in his seventies. Goodman Building was his family property, and the headquarters of the Daily Bugle was located in Goodman Building.
The editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle is Mr. Goodman, and there are three editors-in-chief who are responsible for different sections of the Daily Bugle. Editors-in-chief Jameson, Ben and Robbie can be called the three pillars of the Daily Bugle.
“The new editor-in-chief will be chosen from among the three of us,” Jameson told Ben Parker.
“The editor-in-chief’s job must be more stressful, right?” Ben Parker said.
"It's not just the pressure, but also the workload."
“My blood pressure might not be able to handle it,” Jameson said, looking at Ben.
"You want me to do this? You're giving up this promotion opportunity?" Ben Parker sized up Jameson.
“Promotion? We’re not in the same competitive relationship as other publishing houses,” Jameson said.
"I think I quite like my current workload. I don't have to worry about too much. I just review some manuscripts, occasionally go out as a reporter to cover the scene, and I can still get home on time for dinner," Ben Parker said.
"What you're thinking is what I've been thinking too."
“I feel you need the editor-in-chief job more. Isn’t Peter about to go to college? Peter is so smart, his college tuition will be very expensive,” Jameson said.
“My son is just one step away from achieving great success. Mark told me that he will be able to go to space in two years.”
John Jonah Jameson's son, Mark Jameson, is a NASA astronaut candidate and has always been Jameson's pride and joy.
Ben Parker looked up and gave Jameson a deep look.
"Did Mr. Goodman choose to retire because of health reasons?" Ben Parker asked.
“That’s how I know it,” Jameson nodded.
"Then we can't just focus on the editor-in-chief now; we should also consider the publisher of the Daily Bugle."
Walter Goodman was not only the editor-in-chief, but also the publisher of the Daily Bugle. He was the true boss who completely controlled the Daily Bugle, and all the opinions expressed in the newspaper could be seen as Walter Goodman's inclinations.
If Walter Goodman were to pass away, the person who would succeed him as publisher of the Daily Bugle would be a member of the Goodman family. The younger generation's ideas would be very different from the older generation's, and it would be hard to say whether the Daily Bugle could maintain its current reporting style.
"Mr. Goodman has two heirs: his eldest son and his son-in-law."
“I hope it’s his eldest son, not his son-in-law,” Jameson said.
"If things go wrong, we might all have to leave the Goodman Building."
Jameson looked out of the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office at the towering skyscrapers of New York City, feeling a sense of looking down upon all living beings.
"In keeping with Mr. Goodman's style, he would select the person himself and announce his decision before anyone was ready."
“Whatever our thoughts are, they are just our own thoughts and have no influence on Mr. Goodman’s decision,” Ben Parker said.
“Now that we know about this, we are prepared,” Jameson said.
"When did you find out about this?" Ben Parker observed Jameson's expression and noticed that Jameson seemed to have dark circles under his eyes.
“Mr. Goodman called me last night and told him he wanted to rest.”
“I understand. Congratulations, Jameson,” Ben Parker said.
Didn't Mr. Goodman call you?
"I was with my family last night..."
Ben Parker took out his phone and checked his call history; Walter Goodman had called him.
I didn't answer.
Ben Parker was a little flustered, but he didn't show it on his face.
For Jameson and Ben, Goodman was their teacher, and they were his students who never graduated.
"I need to explain when Mr. Goodman comes to the newspaper office later." Ben put his phone away.
Ben Parker spent the entire morning in his office, feeling uneasy, glancing up every now and then at the office area outside to see if Mr. Goodman had come to the newspaper office.
Mr. Goodman did not come to the newspaper office until the lunch break.
"Ben, why don't you just make a call?"
Ben and Jameson were having lunch together when Jameson offered Ben some advice.
"I'll give it a try..."
Ben held the phone, and Jameson listened intently, but the other party did not answer.
"Something might have happened." Ben met Jameson's gaze.
“Call Walter Jr.,” Jameson said.
Walter Jr. is Walter Goodman's eldest son.
"...Hello? Ben?"
“Mr. Walter, Mr. Goodman didn’t come to the newspaper office today. Is something wrong?” Ben asked.
"My father is in the hospital right now."
“Around 2 a.m. last night, he seemed a bit off…”
Walter's answer made Ben and Jameson's hearts skip a beat.
"May I visit now?" Ben asked.
“Not yet, I can’t see anyone at the hospital either,” Walter replied.
"The hospital visit was timely, and the doctor said there is no immediate danger to his life."
“You have to keep this a secret, don’t let the news get out, understand?” Walter said.
"I know, I will definitely keep it a secret."
After hanging up the phone, Ben and Jameson exchanged a glance, and Jameson sighed.
“It could be a brain hemorrhage; his blood pressure has always been very high,” Jameson said.
"I need to catch my breath," Ben said, clutching his chest.
"Parker, are you about to have a heart attack too?" Jameson asked anxiously.
"Robbie has diabetes, you have heart disease, I have high blood pressure, how come there's not a single healthy person among us?!"
“It’s all from working overtime and staying up all night,” Ben Parker said calmly.
The other editor-in-chief, Robbie, was Black, and Goodman, a white American of a certain generation, naturally wouldn't let Robbie become his successor. And between heart disease and high blood pressure, Goodman had already chosen high blood pressure and a stroke.
Chapter 151 You can't air out your blankets when the weather is nice.
Peter and Aunt May opened the door and returned home, chatting and laughing. Uncle Ben sat on the sofa watching TV.
