"We didn't just meet in high school..."
“You mean you know Peter, not that Peter knows you,” George, Gwen’s father, exposed her lie.
“A $200 million reward is enough to tempt many people to take the risk.” George Stacy’s expression was serious. He had seen many real-life cases in the police station, and he wondered if he should compile a few for Gwen so she could see the darkness of human nature.
"Dad, listen to me."
"Peter and Lyon are both good people."
"Especially Lyon."
"Although I've only known him for less than a month, he's not the New Yorker or American you know. His ancestry comes from ancient China, and his culture comes from the Eastern country across the West Coast. He's Asian, but his skin is very fair. Black, white, and yellow skin are not enough to define a person."
"He is very different."
Did you notice?
"He doesn't seem afraid of anyone, and he even calls you Uncle George when he sees you. What boy wouldn't instinctively back away when he sees you?"
George Stacy was stunned.
He was still wearing his police uniform; people should be afraid of New York police officers.
This is indeed very unusual.
“I’ve never had any friends, haven’t they all been scared away by you?” Gwen complained.
“I don’t think your new friend will be scared away by me,” George smiled at Gwen.
"Leon is not afraid of me."
"The same goes for the boy named Peter."
“I know they are all good kids.”
Gwen rolled her eyes, and George reached out to him, asking her to give him the two bags she was carrying.
"What's inside? Can I know?" asked the old father, George.
“It’s dumplings and two porcelain dishes,” Gwen replied.
“Lyon’s uncle owns a Chinese restaurant. Since we weren’t staying for dinner, his uncle packed some dumplings for us to take home.”
Chapter 25 Who Writes a Diary If They're a Serious Person?
Back home, Peter Parker sat down at his desk in his bedroom and began writing in his diary.
Saturday, May 13, 2000, sunny.
"I absolutely have to write down the recipe for the spearmint fried pork ribs I had at Uncle Liqun's Chinese restaurant today. It was absolutely the most amazing dish I've ever had, and the recipe is quite simple. I can make it for Uncle Ben and Aunt Mei to try during the summer vacation."
"There's still a month until summer vacation, and I can't wait!"
"Gwen has packed our summer schedule to the brim. Uncle Ben could be our driving instructor if he's not too busy, but that's unlikely. Gwen's dad's a sheriff, and according to Gwen, he's a pretty good driver, but he doesn't have time either. So, we can only hope we can find a friendly driving instructor..."
Peter first had the idea of keeping a diary when he was in seventh grade.
At that time, Peter asked Uncle Ben about his father, Richard Parker, and Uncle Ben took out his diary and reminisced about the youth of the two brothers.
Uncle Ben's habit of keeping a diary continues to this day, and his diary is hidden in a secret space in his bedroom. Even Aunt May doesn't know what Uncle Ben's diary contains.
After Peter finished writing in his diary, he turned off the lamp, put the diary in the metal box, locked it, and then went to bed.
Two more years.
Peter is still two years away from becoming Spider-Man when he turns 18.
……
When Li Qun woke up in the morning, he frowned again, looking somewhat pained.
Every muscle in his body was screaming in pain, but Li Qun donned the four weights and began his Sunday with an iron will.
Good morning, Uncle.
My uncle stood in front of the almanac, took it down, turned to yesterday's page, clipped it back on with a metal clip, and hung it back on the wall.
"Get up, I cooked wontons this morning," Uncle said to Liqun.
"I like wontons."
"Are you going to your father's after you finish eating? Take a bowl for him too," the uncle said to Liqun.
"I see."
After having breakfast, Li Qun took the wontons to Old Man's pawnshop.
"Old Man's Pawnshop" is what acquaintances call it, while the sign hanging above the pawnshop reads "Jack's Pawnshop".
Old Man's full name is Jack Chan. The locals in Chinatown call him "Old Chan" or "Old Man Chan," while the white regulars call him "Jack," "Old Jack," or "Old Man Jack."
I didn't go to my dad's shop early in the morning for training; I went to help him with chores. I cleaned the shop, took out the trash, and moved and organized the piles of pawned items that were haphazardly stacked up.
In the dim corner of the pawnshop, Liqun had sorted out some things for his father that he himself couldn't even remember.
The old man ate his wontons with great satisfaction, watching Liqun busy himself in the shop.
"Dad, will anyone really come and redeem these things? I think some of them are even bigger than me," Li Qun said.
"No rush, just wait patiently, these things will eventually find new owners," the old man replied with a smile.
Li Qun was organizing old books.
Working at his father's shop, Liqun could read these old books for free, books that were almost impossible to find anywhere else except in a library. However, if he wanted to take the books home, he would have to pay his father.
"Dad, is this 'Complete Book of Magic' real?" Li Qun asked his father, holding up an old book that was as big as his head.
"It's all made up. Don't believe a single word of what's on it."
When Li Qun opened the "Complete Book of Magic," he couldn't understand a single word in it. The "Complete Book of Magic" also contained illustrations, which were quite imaginative.
Li Qun closed the book and found a separate place to put "The Complete Book of Magic".
They discovered a copy of "The Complete Book of Magic," and soon Li Qun unearthed all sorts of strange and unusual old books.
Paranormal Detection Techniques, Evil Creatures, The Complete Guide to Alchemy Materials...
"Dad, are there wizards in the world?"
Li Qun looked up from the pile of old books, his hair and face covered in dust.
"Maybe," Dad replied nonchalantly.
"Dad, did you have any legendary adventures when you were young?" Li Qun asked curiously.
"Does participating in an oyster eating contest in California count?" Dad replied.
Did you win the award?
"No, but I really enjoyed the oysters." Dad chuckled.
"Dad, have you been to California again?"
“I’m not like you, I haven’t even finished exploring New York,” Dad said.
“But New York is very big,” Li Qun said.
"There are not many cities in the world more bustling than New York."
Li Qun nodded.
It's 2000 now, and America still calls itself a beacon of humanity.
Li Qun compared the year 2000 in his mind to the year he knew, and found that the technological level of the year he was in was much more advanced, probably because of people like Howard Stark.
The old man turned on the TV and watched TV programs, while Liqun listened to the TV while working.
After sorting through a pile of old books, Liqun picked up a feather duster and began to dust them. Some of the old items were too old to be wiped with a towel, so she could only dust them gently.
At lunchtime, Dad put up a "Closed for Business" sign and started cooking with Liqun in the upstairs kitchen.
In the kitchen, the old man stood with his arms crossed, directing Liqun as he chopped and cooked vegetables. According to the old man, cooking was also a form of kung fu training.
The two of them prepared a simple meal of three dishes and a soup. Li Qun's culinary talent was quite good, and his father was very generous in praising the food he made.
“Even if you don’t go to university in two years, you can still inherit your uncle’s Chinese restaurant,” the old man said to Liqun while shoveling rice into his mouth.
"Dad, I can't possibly not go to college."
"Have you decided which university you want to go to? You need to prepare early. Some universities have very strict admission requirements, and good grades alone are not enough," Dad reminded Liqun.
"Dad, which university did you graduate from?" Li Qun asked.
I studied history at the University of California, Berkeley.
"Oh, Dad, you participated in the competitive eating contest when you were in college in California."
The old man smiled and nodded.
After lunch, Li Qun washed the dishes, and an hour later, his father began to supervise Li Qun's kung fu training for the day.
"You have a three-month summer vacation, right?" the old man asked Liqun, holding a stick.
“Yes, that’s right, it’s been a really long summer vacation,” Li Qun replied.
"very good."
"You'll be transformed during the summer vacation," Dad said kindly.
"Peter, Gwen, and I have arranged to take our driver's license test together."
"Take a driving test? I can be your instructor," the old man said.
Chapter 26 This is my father, George.
A police car pulled up in front of the Yellow Crane Tower Chinese restaurant. George Stacy got out of the car, while his African-American partner, Jefferson Morales, sat inside, tilting his head as he watched George walk into the restaurant.
Sheriff George's entry into the Chinese restaurant immediately alerted his aunt behind the counter, who cautiously observed the unfamiliar New York sheriff.
My aunt and uncle have a very good relationship with the police officers in the Chinatown area.
"Hi, I'd like a fried rice and a fried noodle dish to go. My colleagues at the police station said your Aurora Fried Rice and Fried Noodles are really delicious." Sheriff George walked to the counter to order.
"14 yuan." My aunt smiled politely.
